Tried Tommy's for the first time this morning, having driven past here dozens of times. Doughnut was fairly not bad; not terrible, not great ... but tasted like it was probably a day or so old... definitely not fresh (I was in there at about 10 or so AM). The overall selection wasn't spectacular either compared to other doughnut shops I've been in, but again, it was decent and not terrible. Coffee was piping hot and tasted pretty not bad as well. However. The girl behind the counter had been smoking outside previously and when she came back behind the counter to pick out our doughnuts, I did not see her wash her hands. Granted, she didn't touch the doughnuts directly (she used tongs) but that still left me uneasy. She also smelled like an ashtray which caused that portion of the shop to also smell like an ashtray. And not just any ashtray: I'm talking Grandma's ashtray after she's finished off her 3rd pack of Pall Mall's for the day. So if you can imagine Grandma's ashtray growing a pair of opposable thumbs and serving you a doughnut, then you'll have a vague sense of my breakfast experience this morning. After our transaction was completed, she went to a table and just doodled on her iDevices for a bit while the other staff member went out for a smoke as well. We had left by that point. Bottomline: staff wasn't all that friendly and I was not pleased about being served breakfast from Grandma's ashtray, especially when they're in such close proximity to the food itself. If someone told me that those staffers were "no longer with the organization" then I would probably go back... but certainly not before. read more

So, I'm not a big fan of doughnuts... I'm Cambodian. If any of you have Cambodian friends, you should know why or you should ask them why they don't like doughnuts neither. With that said, I will only eat doughnuts from Tommy's. That's how good this place is. My personal favorite: apple fritters. Sooo gooooood. Another favorite is the ham & cheese croissant. Such a cute little gem! Was just passing by when I decided to stop by. First time visit. They know what they're doing with their French crullers, and croissant bacon egg and cheese sandwiches! The doughnuts were moist, not overly sweet on the first few bites. The croissant was buttery and flaky, and not too dry! The people that work in the shop are soo welcoming and so sweet and they have fresh doughnuts ready as soon as we get there. The size of them is just right and they are stocked up. What a great place sand what a selection! Wow. Read a bunch of reviews here on Yelp about several donut places and ended up here. So glad we did. Had friends and their daughters all visiting for the week and we all wanted some donuts. Decided to buy a dozen for the office before work. Dropped by this place based on the yelp reviews. Service was fast and efficient. I think I was in and out under 5 minutes. The positive: Great donuts n coffee. Decent place. Lots of parking. Not expensive. Flat screen tv in a donut shop(not too common). Well due to my craze donut craving, I wanted a donut and the only place near my home that was open was Tommys. I must say, they are not friendly, rude and do not know how they stay in business. You are waited on like if they are given you the item for free, do not yake you into consideration. My hubby was pouring milk in his coffee cup and told the guy at the front. He is there trying to yank it off while it is stuck since lid is one of the turn ones. He did not say sorry, just starting yelling in his native tongue to the back. Dont know what that did So drive the distance and there are far more better places to go for donuts, there not rude and dont make you feel like your 2 inches tall. read more

I had gone to Bijou for brunch and decided to make a stop here to pick up some donuts. This looks like it has been around forever and has an old school feel to it. I love Tommy's! I've been eating donuts from Tommy's since i was a kid. My grandma use to work here when Tommy use to be the owner. He sold the business to new owners about 5 years ago but they still have good donuts. I know they sell lots of other things too but I only go there when I need a donut fix. read more

So, I am biased because I come here everyday, but I'll try and be fair. The family that owns and operates the place is great. They're all unique and that is what definitely gives the place character. The food and coffee is also very good, and low price. Some of my favorites are the egg and cheese croissant with tomato, the tuna salad sand which, and their apple fritters (which are hefty). Also notable: prime parking situation, good selection of other necessities to start your morning off (gum, energy drinks, chips, some fruit, and sodas), and they have an espresso machine to make fancy drinks. I used to come here a lot more when I lived at Summerwood Apartments, but since I've moved I don't come as often. I love love love their Croissant Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich. I've also gotten bagels and coffee here - but honestly I don't think I've ever gotten a doughnut from here. The donuts are ok, just be careful. Thieves hang out in the parking lot. They will break into your car in within 3 minutes flat by smashing the window. You can park right in front of the door on Foothill and the thieves come out of no where really fast to break into your car. If you stop there on the way to work before the sun breaks you will see the parking lot is really dark. There are no lights. Which mean the thieves can you see you, but you can't see them. Be careful a donut is not worth it. read more

I was gonna stop at a place I won't name that's across the street and down a bit. It looked a bit sketchy and dirty but I wanted coffee so I had to U turn to get back to it. As I'm halfway through my turn I glance to the left and see a beautiful old blue building called Tommy's Donuts. I yanked into the parking lot and decided to give it a try. It's not fancy but I like my donut shops old school. The coffee was good - not watered down or Folgers like many donut shops. I got a cake donut to go along with my beverage. It was NOT stale or hard like you get half the time with cake donuts - and I was there after 11am. The place is clean and eclectic in a wonderful way. The owners and staff (it appeared to be owned by a family) were all insanely kind and courteous. Some other customers stumbled upon Tommy's as well and everyone enjoyed what they were eating. Heard about this place at various other sites that talk about Hayward locations. According to other sites I visited, they said this was the best donut shop in Hayward. That may be true and seemed to be supported by the fact that the place was full when I went there Saturday morning. However, the quality of the donuts I ordered (custard-filled chocolate and old fashioned) weren't exactly something I would crave for. The decaf coffee also seemed a little old but could just have been a bad brew. Nevertheless, this may be the best in Hayward (we'll see as I will visit others) but certainly not in the same class as places such as Lloyd's in Fremont. read more

Look... making a great doughnut (hereafter donut) is part recipe, part timing, part dedication, and part miracle. I have had many a donut in my time and am almost always disappointed. Tommy's, however, has not disappointed in over five years. This is an odd-looking shop that sits in Hayward -- but they have consistently the best donuts in the Bay Area (actually, I cannot speak for the Peninsula, but this is certainly true for SF, the East Bay and the North Bay). The only time I have had better is fresh-right-out-the-grease-Winchell's. However, since it is not 1996, and I am not up to a 2am donut run, I am very, very happy to have Tommy's. I also want to make it clear that the miracle of Tommy's is that they are fresh even when you buy them later in the morning. (Hint...4pm is never a good time to buy donuts...ever, no matter where you buy them.) Their maple bars are outstanding, and the apple fritters are like I remember from childhood. I discovered Tommy's late in life, when I had almost given up on finding a decent donut shop. Thank you Tommy's for restoring my faith! God bless this place! It has all the potential to be an amazing donut shop. First off, it's in an old Mister Donut space I'm guessing from the 50's. Do your research on Mister Donut if you're not familiar with them. They had amazing donuts. Unfortunately Tommy or whoever actually owns this place now has lost their way. First off, the donuts. Our glazed donut came in a bag with mustard in it. Gross! A previously used bag? Seriously? The custard in the custard filled had a metallic taste, not good. Tasted like it came out of a can. The only person who liked his donut is my 2 year old son. His was a chocolate with sprinkles. The coffee, although supposedly from Peerless, tasted nasty. Poured it out. The staff seemed uninterested and rushed even though it wasn't crowded. On top of that, the place has an eerie vibe and our booth had two bullet holes in the window right where we were sitting.
