Have passed by this place for years, and finally stopped to get donuts today. Amazing! Not sure why it's only a 4 rating compared to others locally that are higher? The donuts are fresh, tasty, light and airy. Definitely a new go to spot. read more

I wanted to leave my two cents on something I wasn't sure I'd find spectacular or a little less than ok. I'm not a food connoisseur, but my taste buds know what excellent is. I had the chocolate custard filled donuts with slices of fresh strawberries the other day and was taken by the blend of flavor packed in this delectable treat. The bavarian cream, the chocolate, the soft dough and the strawberries were ten bites too fast. I can't wait until I sink my teeth in another one. read more

This place has WONDERFUL food! I'm not usually a doughnut person, but these are SO yummy! The only downside is that it's not a very nice place to stay and eat at. We typically get our doughnuts/pastry here and then cross the street to the Starbucks by Safeway to get our coffee and enjoy our goodies there. :) read more

Love this place. I always pick up the mini apple fritters. They are just so sugary and crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The blueberry doughnuts are also perfectly moist and just full of blueberry sweetness. I highly reccomend! read more

Best. Doughnuts. Ever. I remember coming here as a child when Tommy still owned it. I am so glad he taught the new owners the same recipes. It looks like it's changed hands to new owners again but the doughnuts are the same. Story goes that Tommy was taught to make donuts at Colonial Doughnuts in Oakland. I remember going there and thinking Tommy's are still better. I've treated my office to the doughnuts here a few times and they approve. Best doughnuts in East Bay. read more

Just nope. I was really craving doughnuts and so this is the place I tried. Doughnuts don't seem fresh and soft at all. And they're not light and yummy, they're more like fried bread with glaze. And when I was choosing my dozen, I was being rushed and they put Doughnuts in that I didn't even choose. Not impressed and super sad. 2 stars is because I guess they're edible, in a gas station packaged doughnut kind of way. Stopped here to grab a diet coke and a donut (since diet coke zero's out the calories in a donut! :-) ). The donuts looked good. The old lady behind the counter was not friendly. I picked out a glazed cake, paid and headed on my way. I didn't open the bag until I was far away from the donut shop or I would have went back. I bit in to the donut and it tasted weird. One of things I like to do is drive through Hayward with Grandma looking for new donut shops. (Actually we started in San Leandro and accidentally passed several donut shops before we reached Hayward). No doubt Tommy's large retro sign had something to do with our finding the place. I have been going here for years! When I was in high school, I would grab a bear claw or a sprinkled donut on my walk to school. When I visited it recently, it feels like nothing has changed when I walked in its doors. There was that same heavenly sweet smell and the counters lined with delectable options. The workers are always friendly and speedy. Last, the taste of their donuts is delish! So yummy! Sometimes things that are good don't have to change, sometimes when they have the recipe right the first time it makes a place like this a pleasurable landmark to enjoy a donut in for life. This is defiantly my favorite donut place to come to nearby. they have so many choice. Breakfast sandwiches, croissants, donuts, sandwiches, smoothies, coffees. There all pretty good. Went there with my family for the first time today and was SO pleased with our experience. We are relatively new to Hayward (only been here a year) and still have yet to visit a lot of the local places. We always pass this shop on our way home and I have thought many times how I wanted to try it. The man who helped us was very nice. I got 2 glazed doughnuts and was so happy to find out that they tasted identical to the doughnuts I used to get as a child from our local doughnut shop growing up (even though this place and that one are in 2 different cities). First time reviewer, long time review reader here. I am happy that my first review is for a staple of Castro valley/Hayward eateries. Ok, maybe eatery is too fancy a word, but I have been coming to this little donut shop for almost as long as I can remember and it is everything you want from such an establishment, ie sugar and consistency. As with any donut shop, its always best to get them when they are warm and the chocolate is soft. if you're looking for donuts and live in the area, look no further. Excellent service! I'm so happy with the service I received this morning at Tommy's! I had stopped in to get donuts for an office I was visiting and wanted to bring a treat. I wasn't sure how many to get, so of course I went overboard and got 3 dozen. I was welcomed by a young man who was very friendly and smiling, and I more or less told him, "Well, I'm going to clean you out." I wanted to get 2 dozen plain and 1 dozen extra fancy. They were out of cream-filled (it was around 9:15 and they probably had just run out), but a lady came out and filled some circular donuts with the cream filling for me. I had noticed the prices had changed since I had yelped them the night before, I think someone had posted an old menu, and I noticed the prices were slightly higher than I had anticipated, but I'm pretty sure they did not charge me the full amount because the price came out to be almost exactly what I had calculated the night before (even with a coffee included). When I got to my office, I also noticed they had thrown in a bag of donut holes for no extra charge. How sweet! And of course everyone at the office loved them and kept asking where I had gone. Thank you so much, Tommy's! I'll definitely come back when I need more donuts! read more

Donuts are great - but don't get the chocolate croissant. Even at 4am when the chocolate was warm inside, you can tell it was made by a donut shop and not a bakery (it wasn't flaky). A good selection of teas, too. read more
