I used to eat at Tommy's Mchenry at least once per week. Having their drive thru available during this pandemic was great until the first time I pulled up to the window and saw the young man at the register not wearing his mask! I told the young man that it was rude & disrespectful to not wear the mask and it showed that Tommy's doesn't care about their customers. He apologized and pulled his mask out from under his chin and put it on properly. A week ago the same thing happened when I pulled up to the drive thru window to find another young man with his mask under his chin as I was handing him my Credit Card, so I stopped and told him that since this was the second time a Tommy's employee couldn't be bothered to wear their mask properly, I would never come back and they could cancel my order! I wrote them a message on their web site through their "contact us" section and they have not responded. It is now obvious that they do NOT care at all about their customers and they deserve the worst review I can give. If they can't be bothered to wear a simple mask, what else may they be doing to make people sick?! read more

I have lived in the area for about 15 year and have tried Tommy's about five times. I guess the memories of how bad it can be wear off and I try it again every few years. I grew up in Chicago so I know a good hot dog is more than a Vienna dog. Tommy's bun is stale every single time. The bun should be steamed and soft, guys. This is ALWAYS dry and crumbly. Most of the toppings are ok - they are very cheap with the sport peppers - if you get one, you're lucky. The fries are meager and if you order in the evening, expect an old oil flavor - very, very unappealing. The help could use some Adderall to focus. I ordered a tamale in the drive thru and half way home stuck my hand in the bag to make sure it was still warm and surprise! It was a frozen cannoli. I schlepped all the way back, waiting in the drive thru for 10 minutes AFTER I told them about the mistake and got the tamale but the hot dog and fries at this point were cold. The tamale is described on the menu as a "corn husk tamale." It is not. It's like a Supreme tamale - rolled corn meal around a beefy paste. Not a corn husk tamale at all. I had the Italian beef once. It's very bland and unsatisfying. You want to support small business but when the food hovers between awful and average and the help is in need of mental clarity tabs and a charm class - you head to Portillo's. read more

Ordered grilled chicken on a pita and gyros meals. 1 degree outside and not much warmer inside. Gyro put on counter, grilled chicken put on counter, no fries, time to make the fries. Food is not under a warmer of any kind and is ice cold when served. We take the fries, sit down and they announce hot gyros, get up and get food, eat more fries and finally hot grilled chicken is announced, had to get this also. Absolutely no customer service. Asked to speak to the manager and he is the guy who did not make the fries and set the food on the counter to get cold in the first place. A father and daughter came in and ordered hot dogs and the daughter stated her hot dogs sat by the pizza warmer while they waited for fries and the dogs were cold. We were the only customers in the restaurant, it's not like they were crazy busy, they were and are completely mis-managed. Food is good, service is poor from the moment you place your order to the cashier. As we were leaving and getting our drinks filled, a man was complaining about the amount of time he was waiting, he was the only customer in the restaurant. This place has the potential to be a gold mine, ownership should send in secret shoppers, then clean house! read more

Their food is wonderful and well worth the cost. Delivery is super quick, drive through is a little slow, but they make things to order so I wouldn't even complain. We have hardly any mess ups with special instructions and the few times we did, it was a quick fix at home. The gyros are tasty as well as their burgers and chicken. This is the last time I will visit Tommy's. They always forget something or overcharge for another. This time takes the cake. $20.08 for two beef w/ mozzarella combos. That includes 2 beefs with cheese, 2 fries and 2 drinks. They made one beef completely soggy, enough to break the bag and leave juice all over the floor of my vehicle. The cheese was minuscule. They must have split what was supposed to go on 1 sandwich between the two. The portion of fries was pathetic. The trays they put the fries in weren't even half full! Then to top that off some of the fries were raw. Last, my drink was watered down. We drive 12 minutes each way for this crap! They have always offered an exchange or credit but that's not good enough anymore. I want it right the first time not on my next trip. read more

Ok- I'm still loving Tommy's- don't get me wrong. But something is irkin me about my call in pizza orders. LOVE Tommy's pizza, but they completely overkill on the olives. Every time we call in, we say 'no olives' - twice even, just to make sure they've got it. The past THREE TIMES- they have put olives on the pizza. In fact, we just ordered it tonight, and my husband is currently waiting for them to make a new one- cause we checked it before we left this time, and guess what it had on it. He even told the guy taking the order 'no olives' THREE TIMES. Come on guys- love your food- but recheck your order taking skills!! read more

I used to eat here quite often, but it had been a year or so. We went in today and got 2 chili dogs and an order of onion rings. We were not told fries come with the chili dogs, so we had WAY more fries & onion rings than we could possibly eat. Picked up an onion ring and the oil streamed out of it, all over my hand and arm, disgusting! Fries were soggy, as well. The chili dog had hardly any chili on it and a cheese sauce instead of real cheese, not very good. The dog itself had too much of a snap to the casing; I looked and there was no Vienna or Scala beef sign anywhere. I usually have 2 sandwiches, but couldn't finish 1 chili dog and had 0 fries or onion rings. Threw the rings out, not fit for my dog to eat. Staff didn't seem to care when we showed them how bad the onion rings were. Used to be a great place for pizza and reasonably priced. I think it was $16 for an 18" last time I got one, now it is $20. Still not a terrible deal, but now I don't trust their cooking / ingredients. Their 2 hot dog / fries / drink is now $7! Don't know if it is just this Tommy's, but in McHenry, the same type of menu is at Alex's and they execute a lot better with name brand meat and about the same prices. I have been coming to Tommy's for years and have always loved their food. I recently started keto over the past year and haven't done too much take out but covid changes things. I decided to give Tommy's a try keto style, and just WOW! They package it wonderfully (believe me that can be a problem when ordering it no bun) and they seem to give a little extra meat on the combo sandwich I ordered. (Thank you!!) I have gone here three times getting the same thing and each time the order is the same. Fresh, hot, wonderful portions and they seem to all be following all safety guidelines. I just wish they would fix their speaker in the drive thru, it is soo hard to understand. It's also hard to come here and not order their awesome fries and I have always been a fan of their bread, but they are just as good without. I have to admit over the past couple years they really have stepped up quality :) honestly give them a try, I brought my friend here from WI and had her and her husband try it and they love it! Said Tommys will be their go to place when they come to visit me from now on. read more

Not bad but not the greatest. Definitely not service is good except the old lady that answers takes your phone order needs to do something else. She can't hear very well and basically wants you screaming your order and cuts you off during the middle of the order so fingers crossed you get what you ordered. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. Generic place that reheats frozen food and subs that would be better tasting and cheaper from a Subway. Great place for a sandwich, fries and a coke for lunch. They have so many things to choose, hot-dogs, burgers, gyros, pizza, beefs even ribs. Google menu is wrong. It's way cheaper. It was a unwelcome surprise when I went to pick up the food and pay. They instantly knew what I was talking about when I said that the online menu was different than what they were charging. It's a pretty OK spot for lunch. The Tommy's Special is the norm for me when coming by (2 dogs and fries for $6). I mean, Portillo's tends to have better dogs, but for McHenry, they are pretty good. We've been living here for 10 years and I'm always amazed at how rude their employees are. It's obvious that anybody, regardless if they walk in or drive through, is bothering the employees. if you would like to eat while listening to the kitchen staff's children run rampant through the restaurant then this is your place... The fried mushrooms were freezer burnt and inedible, but the cooks were too busy dealing with the 6 kids they had in there running around to take care of the problem... this place has the best customer service!! my wife has celiac disease (severe allergy to gluten). when we ordered, we explained the need to keep things separate and only items without gluten (no bun). they were so accommodating and hand walked our order to make sure it was ok!! I would recommend Tommy's in Mchenry to everyone for good food and super customer service!! read more
