Toms BBQ Salad - with Pork -
    Ron M.

TOMS BBQ - Tempe, AZ We were at Tom's BBQ for Lunch and also for Dinner. For Lunch I ordered the Brisket Plate with Red Beans & Rice. The Brisket was good and even better with their BBQ Sauce - it goes perfectly with their Brisket. The Red Beans & Rice are lightly spiced and pretty good. My Wife had Toms BBQ Salad, with Chicken, and it was very tasty. The lady behind the counter is Awesome, very polite, and provided excellent customer service. She earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. For our Dinner on Friday, I had the Fried Catfish with Potato Salad and Red Beans & Rice. The Catfish is very Tasty with a nice light crunch on the breading. Their Creamy Potato Salad is very Tastylicious. Again, the Red Beans & Rice are the right thing to enjoy with anything they serve. My Wife had the Toms BBQ Salad with Pork this time, and it was really good. She loved the Pork. Nancys Grandson, Michael, ordered a Burger, don't know what one, but he said it was very Tasty. He also loved the Curley Fries. Nice and crispy. Toms BBQ is a good place to enjoy some of whatever they have, and they offer a lot of choices.

Peach cobbler? More like peach cobbler filling.

Let me preface this by saying, this was my first time at Tom's BBQ. There was an older gentleman at the register. Not the friendliest. I came in the 6 o'clock hour. I walked in and began looking at what I know now is the lunch menu. He directed me to the main menu. I smiled and stated how it was my first time. He retorted by advising how long Tom's been in business and possibly at that location. Not sure if he took offense that I (a non-Arizona native) have never been. I knew then, that perhaps I wouldn't be back. My order: 3 meat combo w/ red beans and rice and green beans, peach cobbler, and a canned peach tea. When I ordered the peach cobbler, I was directed to grab a decent size syrofoam container out of the cooler. He advised that I take it home and warm it up. I advised that that was the plan as I had butter pecan ice cream waiting. I noticed that the he added a small container of crumbles. I asked if that was supposed to be the crust. I then asked if the "peach cobbler" was just the peaches. There was a woman who poked her head out and said yes and asked if I wanted her to warm it up. I declined. The gentleman insisted that it was peach cobbler adding that,"it's not your grannie [or grandmothers], but it's peach cobbler". I picked up the container to open it. The gentlemen went to grab it from my hand exclaiming that I had to pay for it first. I advised that I would pay for it even if that means I would have to throw it in the trash. Right then, I knew that today's visit would indeed be my last. When it comes to peach cobbler, one shouldn't cut corners. There are too many wonderful soul food places and bbq places that have pretty good peach cobbler in the U.S. for you not to have a half decent peach cobbler on your menu. I was so disgusted with the service (let alone the peach cobbler), I didn't try the food. I gave it away. I wish I would have read the reviews first. I could have saved $39.32. First and last time.

Rib tips with corn and mashed potatoes

After running the Mesa Marathon, I drove down here to Tempe to get lunch. Since they specialized in Chicago style food, I ordered their rib tips with corn and mashed potatoes as my 2 sides. It was not bad, but the place was pretty dead for lunch. There was only one other customer in there during my visit.

Food was decent service was lacking. We went in and were told to seat ourselves. We sat on the patio. After sitting out there for a bit we were given menus and water. The waitress asked if we were ready. We said we needed a few minutes. After 15-20 minutes I walked in and ordered at the counter. Took a bit to get our food. I had to get up and get my own water refill. Our food was delivered and that was the second and last time anyone came to our table. After eating we cleared the table and went up to the counter to pay. For a sit down restaurant the service was lacking. It was busy and only two people serving. I would be wiling to try it again at some point.

It wasn't crowded on the Saturday night and I am not sure why. The service was stellar and their meats were pretty darn good. Value for the money seemed to be pretty fair and down right inexpensive when compared to other opportunities within an eight mile radius. We will be back to Tom's the next time we want some BBQ

I had the brisket and pulled pork plate (I also wanted to try the ribs and sausage, but they were already sold out!). That gives you an idea of how popular they are. Great service as soon as you enter. The young staff were super nice and polite...great job by them. The indoor space (with cold AC to fight the Arizona heat) is small but clean and comfortable. They also have outdoor seating with fans and mist to cool you off. I took my order back to the hotel. Let me tell you, the food is phenomenal. That brisket was so moist and perfectly seasoned...gosh it was so good! The pulled pork was fantastic as well. The potato salad was great and definitely made on-site, not from a bag. The beans were really good too. I was really impressed with their offerings and will definitely go back on my next trip to Arizona.

I can say that I have never had horrible pork or sausage here, but I tried the beef ribs twice, and I watched friends eat them a couple of times and they were horrible! They don't remove the membrane inside of the ribs most of the time, so they're extra chewy. The biggest issue is that you pay by the pound for a HUGE bone you cannot eat, and your lucky if 1/4 of the weight is fat or meat. They're just not worth the price...period! The ribs are usually very good with a good pull and a decent moisture content, but I had a few batches that we very dry. The issue I have is the price of $28lbs for ribs is crazy money since that's only about 3 or 4 ribs, so a full rack is going to be $75 to $100. When you consider that half or more is bones you can't eat they're just not worth it! Do what I did 15 years ago and buy a good smoker, and learn how to use it.

People come here for the meats: brisket, ribs, pulled pork, BUT!!! Have you had this GREEN CHILE BURRITO?! I beg you to try it if you have not... most people don't know they even have it, but luckily, for my coworker and I, Director of Operations Matt, walked up to us as we dined in last Wednesday and let us sample the Green Chile. As most of you know, I can't hang when it comes to spicy foods, but this chile is THE EXCEPTION (even though it's only "mildly" spicy). We each ordered the 2 meat plate, but we were so appreciative of the sample he gave us, otherwise we would never have known about it. We ended up ordering 2 burritos for our lunch the very next day!! You can also add cheese to it! I went in again for the 3rd day in a row on Friday, since I'm not sure when I'll work in that area again (I was 10 min away all last week)!! I asked my boss if I could work there on Mondays and Fridays, that's how good this burrito is!! They also have a MEAN Pecan Pie. It's called Bekke's Smoked Pecan Pie and it too, is a must try item! Matt told us it's a secret recipe from one of their employees and the crusts are hand pressed daily. Using a machine is just NOT the same, and I believe it! Since I am not sure when I'll make my way back there, I also bought another pie on Friday. So far, I've only had 1 slice because I need to ration accordingly! Prior to my 3 visits last week, I went to this location last July, when a friend was visiting from out of town. The place is clean and welcoming, and they have the best customer service! On Thursday and Friday when I ordered online and picked up, my orders were ready before the estimated pick up time! Mark was at the pick up window both times and he rocks!! I had forgotten to ask for the Banana Pudding I ordered on Wednesday when we dined in. I called as I drove home, realizing I left without it. Amanda was super friendly when she answered the phone and assured me I would have it when I came the next day. Mark delivered and had it in my bag the next day when I picked up our burritos. Service with a smile is what you'll get here! You cannot go wrong no matter what you order here! The meats are absolutely perfect and the flavor profile on everything is mind-blowing! Do yourself a favor and ask for the Green Chile anything next time you're here. Tell them I sent you! Don't sleep on the Banana Pudding or Bekke's Smoked Pecan Pie, either. Something about that smoking process makes the pie stand out from every other pecan pie you've ever tasted, trust me. It's also NOT super sweet like you're probably used to. If you call in, you can't place an order by phone, so do it online and you'll get a text with an estimated time of pick up. You can skip the line inside, too. Just walk up to the pick up window and you're good to go when you ring the little doorbell. There is plenty of parking outside and they even have a large patio space should you choose to dine outside. Thank you, Matt, Mark, Amanda and the rest of the crew at Little Miss BBS Sunnyslope for such a pleasant experience every single time!! I will be back for sure! Don't forget to try the Prickly Pear Lemonade (spiked with vodka -- my choice of poison)! enJOY!!

Such a friendly and attentive young woman. We enjoyed chatting with her. Excellent bartender with great recommendations. I took her advice, and had the Prickly Pear Mule. Good flavor, and different than the ordinary mule. My husband had Makers Mark neat & a Dos Equis with a very cold glass. We moved to a booth, and ordered the smoked wings as an appetizer. They were outstanding! Served with carrots, celery, and 3 sauces on the side...buffalo, ranch, and bbq. It was such a generous serving , but we were determined to finish them. Next, we each ordered the 2 meat platter. I had St. Louis ribs with brisket, Mac and cheese, and the bbq beans. My husband ordered the baby back ribs, brisket, bbq beans, and pecan Cole slaw. We were both served a piece of cornbread which was so good. I also had a smoked Old Fashioned. The presentation was very well done! Finally, to top it off, Audrey brought a piece of chocolate with ice cream for my husband's birthday! The food was spectacular, and made us determined to return, possibly the next day for the fried fish! It's actually a 1 1/2 hour drive to get there, but well worth it! Renny, the manager, stopped by our table twice to make sure we were happy with everything. If you're a fan of bbq, check out BobbyQ! You won't be disappointed!!
