    Two dog special

Tom's Carry Out is a decent sized fast food eatery located off of Harlem avenue in Lyons. They have a wide menu of items and a bunch of video gambling machines located in a small dark room off to the side by the bathrooms. In stopping by here I decided to try out the hot dog. The first thing to note was the wait. It took around ten minutes to get two hot dogs and fries. Once I received the hot dogs just looking at them, I knew I wasn't going to be very happy. The hot dog here was served on a hard non poppy seed bun. Excessive amounts of mustard and relish were piled on. The pickle spear used was giant and sour. The sport pepper used on this hot dog was incredibly hot and totally threw off the taste of everything else and will stick in your mouth for hours to come. The signage here indicated that they use Red Hot Chicago hot dogs, but these sure didn't taste like them. It was a skinless frank that had a baloney-like taste with the sausage. Both my friend and I only made it a few bites into these nasty hot dogs. If these weren't bad enough the fries here were even worse. Really nasty examples of fresh cut fries with a bad aftertaste and were so over-fried they crunched. Overall Tom's Carry Out is among the worst fast food eateries I've come across, slow service and horrible food. It should be called "Tom's Throw Out" because that's what happened with most of our awful food. One star for this disaster.

Gyros perfection! For a very affordable $7.99 you get a beverage, huge basket of fries and a very generous gyros complete with onions, tomatoes and delicious tzatziki!

Half G03. Greek Chicken Dinner, it looked nicer before I started eating it!

Restaurant is decorated nicely and I heard that they have outdoor seating in the summertime so I'll definitely be back during warmer weather! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared, and the service was warm and welcoming. Our server even packed our leftovers for us right at the table, which I think is such a great extra touch. I started with the Avgolemono soup, which was one of the best I've ever had! The portion is large enough to split between two people. Otherwise, it will definitely fill you up. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried zucchini, and it was incredible! Perfectly crispy and full of flavor! For dinner, we had the Pastitio, which was also one of the best we've had, rich and flavorful. We also tried the Shrimp Tagliatelle; while it was well prepared, the parsley flavor was a bit too strong for my taste. Overall, a wonderful meal and experience. I would absolutely come back and highly recommend it!

I think the waiters were confused as to why I was only ordering one item, but I had too many food places to try. The free bread and olive oil were lovely. The moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had been transported to a small Greek taverna. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and our server was incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of the highlights for me was being able to order and converse in Greek, it made the experience feel that much more authentic and special. Of course, I couldn't decide on just one dish, so I had to order a little bit of everything. Why not? The saganaki was absolutely delicious and is definitely a must-try. The avgolemono was decent and comforting, though it wasn't quite as memorable for me. The pastitsio was a bit of a mix. The flavor was delicious and packed with that classic Greek comfort-food goodness, but unfortunately, the béchamel was overcooked and had become too firm. Overall, between the friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and flavorful food, I had a very good experience at Greek Islands. There are still plenty of classic dishes I'd like to try, so I wouldn't hesitate to come back the next time I'm in Chicago.

Value (B) It is a bit pricey but not too bad around $35/person for lunch for 2 and an appetizer. They have a small plates menu which might be the lunch menu. Service (A) Excellent friendly and polite service. Got the food out fairly fast. And waitstaff was super nice and respectful. Even packed up the leftovers- did a great job Food (A-) I got the combination plate and it tasted exactly how it did 20 years ago. This is both a positive and a negative. Taste was excellent - especially the lamb, meatballs and sauce over the rice and dolmas. Great portion size also. Will get stuff. Came with potatoes and veggies. On the negative it tasted very heavy. I was expecting it to be "lighter". Not sure I am describing it correctly. I am going to order it again as it's excellent but I think I am eating a ton of butter and or oil. Maybe I am not but something gave it the heavy feel. Also with bread service - I appreciate they provide it but feels very 90s. Thr bread was okay and the butter was the small little packages of butter. So I really do like this place and am being overly critical so I would strongly recommend going for a safe bet Greek place. My recommendations for them 1. Too many options on the menu - need to skinny it down 2. Higher quality bread and butter 3. An actual simple lunch menu. Would have loved a combination plate lunch portion for $16.99 vs a dinner portion at $25.99

However, since this Lombard location opened, I think at least a decade ago we've definitely been coming here consistently. Even though I don't put a review of every single time I visit. However, my last review of this place was over four years ago, so I thought it was about time to update this. I still give it a solid four stars because this place is key and king on consistency. If there's one thing you can rely on here is that that same recipe from 10 years ago or 30 years ago is still the same good recipe today. And that is absolutely fantastic. I do believe the portions have gotten slightly smaller over the years and obviously prices have gone up, but this is to be expected. The only downfall of this location is that they never take reservations that if you come during peak hours, you better expect to wait even over and up to an hour. Something else that I've seen really evolved at this place is that when they originally first opened, including the Greektown location, all servers, including bus, boys, etc., were all Greek that has definitely changed now over the years The parking lot here is still very generous however during peak times beware it will be hard to find the parking space and there is no valet. Well, consistency is fantastic. I do wish they had expanded the menu to make lokoumades dessert. It's one of my favorites and they still don't offer it.
