Tasty and unique boba! Glad we popped by when in the area and also snagged prime parking in the busy downtown shopping area when we visited on a Saturday morning. Thankfully we'd ordered ahead online too and the drink was ready in the quick 5-10 minutes as promised! We didn't spend long inside the store but it was pleasantly decorated with some seating options and kind employee. We tried the Grape Tea with Grape Pulp and Green Tea Jelly and Strawberry Boba with 25% sugar and 0% ice and found it to be plenty sweet. The drink tasted fresh and like white grape, not generic grape juice. The two kinds of toppings were great and provided a little chew - I really liked that the jelly wasn't too sweet and had a light tea aroma, and that the strawberry boba was chewy and reminiscent of the mochi bits you can top your froyo with. I ordered the Brown Sugar Boba and it genuinely made me sick. First off, I tried to sip the drink and none of the boba would come out. It was in a massive clump. This place was the first stop that I visited to grab a drink after eating a catch up brunch with one of my girlfriends. There was a special going on so we both ended up getting the same drink and unfortunately the boba was a little bit to watered down and undercooked. The flavouring of the drink was fair and the staff was pretty slammed as the queue was out the door. There was plenty of seating and space so thankfully it wasn't too overcrowded while waiting. Great boba option near Stanford campus for your afternoon pick-me-up! I had a friend recommend this place to me and we went together. I got a Alishan oolong tea with boba (no milk). Being Taiwanese, the tea quality was pretty good for the price! The boba are clear so they're not your usual tapioca starch version (I think). At least, they don't have the roasted brown sugar taste. I got 25% sugar which was perfect for me. All ordering is on a tablet kiosk. When I went on a Saturday afternoon there was one party ahead of us but we didn't wait much time at all. Came here for that homemade boba! Their house made boba flavors changes weekly, this week they had a peach flavor. When ordering on the kiosk make sure you selected weekend flavor for the unique flavor options. Of course brown sugar boba is always on the menu! Since it was raining we decided to get some hot milk teas. We went with the taro milk tea which wasn't overly sweet. The regular milk tea which was pretty sugary even at 75% and the hazelnut milk tea which had a light toasty flavor. All the the drinks seemed pretty sweet besides the taro so maybe account for that in setting your sweetness level. The staff seemed quite busy and couldn't call out our order number when drinks were done so our party waited awkwardly until one of us approached the counter and just grabbed our drinks. This is the best boba I've had in the bay. I'm addicted, but experience is inconsistent. In contention for 2nd best in the states. The boba is phenomenal. One downside is the higher price point so I can't justify frequent visits as much as I want to. However, service is also an area that leaves something to be desired. Very inconsistent across all of my experiences. I was recommended Mr. Sun Tea by a coworker and wasn't sure what to expect but my mind was blown. I once ordered delivery though and they gave me standard (thin) straws despite two drinks having boba. As if they expected me to eat the boba at the end with a spoon. Not sure what they expected - I didn't order boba just to drink the liquid. This was a poor experience so unfortunately it drops my overall impression. Another time they ran out of basically everything including strawberry boba and apparently they can't make the Mr. Sun Special without strawberry boba (though it can be substituted?). Anyways I ordered 2 drinks at $13 and they didn't support the plinko that they advertise for spending over $10. Outside of those two poor experiences, the drinks are amazing. For starters, they pride themselves on their handcrafted boba which also comes in different flavors! It seems like the flavors are rotating and they have daily ones, which makes sense because there's no point in making a bunch just for it to go wasted. I have only tried the brown sugar boba but I'm sure the others are just as fantastic. These flavors aren't popping boba either, like they're actual chewy boba and the chewiness is more than typical boba, much more unique. This is something I've only seen at Xing Fu Tang but it's done better here. I'm a huge fan of the strawberry boba. Not sure if it was just the one time I ordered, but it was much softer, chewier, and flattened into thinner squares which was a unique and fun texture. Mr. Sun Special - boba comments above. Basically 10/10 boba and that is rare. I didn't know it came with strawberry boba so I asked for brown sugar and they simply swapped it. Would've loved to try the strawberry. The drink itself is a creamy strawberry milk, way better than the store bought versions. Other boba places have strawberry milk that's comparable but Mr. Sun is extra creamy and flavorful. Downside here is not only price but also lack of adjustments for sugar and ice. Drink was very sweet, definitely a dessert. Rainbow Boba Milk Tea w/ 3 Flavors of Boba - I think I got mango and strawberry, not sure what the last was, either passionfruit or rose but the flavor was subtle compared to the former two. Strawberry boba was much softer and more flat in shape, easier to chew. Some actually had strawberry seeds inside. Mango was closer to a circle shape though more like a round rectangle and a bit firmer. Very interesting clashes in texture with this drink. Taro Fresh Milk w/ Boba - it's supposed to come with brown sugar boba according to online menus but mine came with crystal boba. I love crystal boba but it's nothing special anywhere and is a pretty safe choice. If I'm here at Mr. Sun, I'd want their handcrafted boba so it was actually a bit disappointing to see. The taro itself was creamy and nutty, a very high quality taro drink. Jasmine Green Milk Tea w/ Boba - a strong tea flavor is the first layer before there's a creaminess. Balance is definitely towards the tea though. A really solid drink but if I were to come to Mr. Sun, I'd get a specialty. This is almost comparable to any other spot's jasmine milk tea. It's more of a personal thing, I thought maybe I could tolerate my dislike of mint in drinks just for this, since I love grapefruit but nope.
