Never had Thai Boat Soup before. Fantastic! Lovely service and food. Boat Soup was spicy (spice forward) in a great way. They make their own chili powder, garlic chili sauce, and fish sauce, so you can up the sweet, spicy or tangy to your flavor, though I found the base soup was good enough I didn't want to add much. Came with a large amount of beef (they have a pork option too), which can be a rarity with noodle soup dishes. Beef meatballs were plenty as well. More than I could have in one sitting and earned every one of the five stars I'm rating Menu had a lot of classics like pad thai, pad see euw, and several curries. Wish I had a couple-three more stomachs to try a few other options. I don't say this lightly, this is one of the best Thai spots in California. You can tell right away this isn't some generic version of Thai food made to please everyone. The flavors are real. Four of us had lunch here recently. I strongly agree with the reviewers who say service here is very welcoming and friendly. I had Pumpkin Curry with vegetables (extra veg in place of a meat). The veg selection was decent enough, though there was not much pumpkin to speak of for the extra price (compared to their regular curries). The curry sauce was also disappointing, as I found it very, very sweet, making it impossible to taste other flavors. I had brown rice instead of jasmine, which turned out to be an interesting blend of several different rice varieties. My husband had Drunken Noodle with vegetables. He felt the noodles were cooked perfectly, but wished it had a bit more veggies. He found the balance of the garlic sauce's sweetness and spiciness just right. Everyone found the spice level accurate, with 3 (on a 1-5 scale) providing a significant amount of heat, but not too much. This is our new favorite Thai place in the Granite Bay/Folsom area! Not only is the food fantastic, but the service is welcoming and super friendly. On multiple occasions, we have seen the staff welcome their regulars and inquire about how they're doing. My husband loves the Panang Curry with crispy chicken. As someone who gets chicken katsu on the regular, he is quick to say that the crispy chicken at Tong Thai Bistro is top tier. I've loved the basil crispy pork belly - each morsel of meat was delicious and the veggies are done equally well with just the right amount of tenderness to bite. We've also enjoyed the basil eggplant and the mango sticky rice, which is a perfect sweet treat for two. The soft shell crab (which was crispy and not hard or oily) pad Thai definitely hits the spot if you're looking for a typical dish, but isn't what makes this place so special. I have a moderate spice tolerance and get my dishes at 3/5 and my husband likes his food more mild at 2/5. read more

The menu is full of fan favorites from pad thai, khao soi, pork belly, to the beloved mango sticky rice. Beef noodle soup- Incredibly aromatic, light beefy broth not quite as heavy as boat noodles. The beef was tender and paired nicely with the chewy rice noodles. The portion was absolutely massive. I have never seen such a large and heavy bowl. I would definitely order it again. Samosa - The pastry itself was buttery and delicate. The filling had a strong curry flavor with potatoes and vegetables. The sweet chili sauce on the side was a great tangy punch. Crispy pork belly- This was a great appetizer but the sauce from the samosa paired better with the meat in my opinion. If they could put two different accompanying sauces with this dish, it could be even better. The sweet chili sauce adds a tangy bright flavor while the soy sauce just adds umami. Mango sticky rice- The coconut cream sauce is thick, rich and both sweet and salty. The sticky rice is chewy and soft. Although it wasn't mango season, the mango was sweet. What a perfect way to finish off the meal. Highly recommend. What stands out about Tong Thai Bistro is the hospitality. The workers are so friendly, down to earth, and kind. Their warmth and service really reminds me of being back in Thailand. We ordered 5 dishes for about $80 total which is really good for the amount of food we got. This is the absolute best Thai food we've had in California, let alone the best in the Sacramento metro area. The food is phenomenal and the customer service is fabulous as well. Literally every single item we've had here has been amazing - right from the curries (red curry, masaman, yellow curry, green curry), and the curry puffs (samosas), to the fried rice and the Thai cashew nut. But the standout item here, and the best in my estimation is the khao soi, a northern Thai specialty, which Tong Thai makes to perfection. Second time here. This restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking out front. The servers are super nice and attentive. My husband orders the tofu curry and rice. It was a generous bowl of curry and very good flavors but could have been a bit thicker. It was quite thin but still good. I ordered the pad Thai. Again, a very generous portion. It was good. A bit oily but very nice flavor. We also ordered the samosas that were absolutely delicious and piping hot. They came with sweet chili sauce. I was really craving Thai and we tried this spot for the high ratings. My husband and I ordered the chicken pad thai, chicken drunken noodles and fresh spring rolls. Pad thai- no complaints. I felt everything was cooked to perfection with all the right amount of flavor and spice. Drunken noodles- the chicken was a little tough but I enjoyed the amount of veggies present. As someone with a Thai significant other, we tend to seek out Thai restaurants wherever we go--whether they're aiming for authenticity or serving up Americanized versions of the classics. Based on the strong Yelp reviews, we came in hopeful this spot near our new home would become a go-to. Unfortunately, while not a bad restaurant by any means, it didn't quite live up to the hype. Papaya Salad (Lao Style): We were glad they offered it Lao style--something not all places will do. That said, the salad was overwhelmingly salty, to the point that the sodium completely masked other flavors. Even as someone who doesn't love fish sauce, I tried it and agreed. We asked for extra lime to try to cut through the saltiness. Pork Belly Appetizer: The dish was only really enjoyable when paired with the provided sauce; on its own, it was just okay. Honestly, 99 Ranch across the street serves a fried pork belly in their hot foods section that is crunchier and more flavorful. Pineapple Fried Rice: This was my entrée, and again the flavors were just average. The curry flavor dominated, it was a bit greasy, and overall I'd rate it 6/10 compared to similar restaurants. Fried Chicken Wings: We ordered these for our kids with the sauce on the side. Unfortunately, one wing came out noticeably undercooked with pink meat and a red bone. We discreetly pushed it aside in front of the kids. When the server noticed, his facial expression said it all, and he admitted he'd remind the kitchen to be more careful. Soft Shell Crab: This was a highlight. Five small crabs came on the plate, nicely crisp and with good flavor. Larb Salad (Chicken): Another strong dish--classic flavors, fresh, and very enjoyable. Service & Atmosphere: Our server (I didn't catch his name) was excellent--attentive, quick, and positive throughout. The food came out piping hot, and his energy and professionalism were the highlight of the visit. He earned a solid tip. Final Thoughts: Overall, the food ranged from okay to decent, with a couple of hits (larb and soft shell crab) and some misses (overly salty papaya salad, greasy fried rice, undercooked wings). Given the 4.7 Yelp rating, we were expecting more. While the service was top-notch, the inconsistency in the dishes makes me unsure if we'll return. read more

He didn't have something on the menu (it was taken off a while ago due to unpopularity but pic is still on yelp) and he didn't have to, but he offered me two Thai teas on the house. Thai tea was cold, creamy, sweet and refreshing on a warm evening. So to the food! Fair notice: I ordered Togo and then had to go to the Sacramento airport and then back to Placerville where I live. Kiddo and I ate most of the appetizers on the way to the airport but the salad and curry was after we got home to Placerville. I'm sure taste/ texture would be better if dishes were eaten immediately. Samosas: Delicious. No real notes. Has a nice bold flavor. Crust was a little soggy because it was being steamed in the paper box until we ate it on the road. But flakey and I'm sure crispy if eaten immediately or reheated in the air fryer. Would absolutely order again. Shrimp donut: Warm and crispy (if eaten immediately). Air-fried it at home and it had a nice crisp bite. Good taste. Wouldn't order it again but I see why it's popular and recommended. Pork belly: Much better when I reheated it at home. I liked this sauce better than the sweet and sour they give with the shrimp and samosa appetizers but wished there was acid. A lot of their dipping sauces come off sweet. I sprinkled more salt at home and ate it with fresh herbs, pickled Veggies and sticky rice. Chicken satay: Juicy chunks of skewered chicken. Very tasty and would totally order again. Larb pork: BD loves his Larb. Unfortunately he ate this two hours after I picked it up so that might have changed the taste or texture a bit. Fresh is probably better. He said he enjoyed the taste of Tong Thai's larb, but I don't know how they get their ground pork, if they grind it themselves, or order it . Please be aware that There were hard pieces of either cartilage or bone in his dish so I'm not sure if he would order it again. Yellow curry was nice and thick. Loved the flavors, would order it spicier next time and would love to try their other curries too. This place is six minutes away from the kiddo's soccer field where he practices 3 times a week. I will definitely be back, if anything, I'd order some samosas and Thai teas for our travel back home. read more
