Saturday, 9/27/2025 - Went to try Folsom Palace Asian Bistro. The restaurant is like, about 300 sq feet. Address is 3941 Park Dr, Ste 10, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762. There are many stores here. Restaurants, massage place, pet stores, gas, US Bank, Golden 1, etc. Lots of parking. Upon arrival.... Pros 1) Restaurant looked clean. Tables, chairs, utensils, cups, plates, etc all looked clean. 2) There's a bar. 3) easy to find parking. We got seated right away. We were the only ones in the restaurant since we were early. 4) our waitress was very nice and attending. She checked on us several times. 5) water tasted good. No funky or odd taste. 6) all of our food dishes were good. No complaints. 1 bowl of rice for 1 person is $3.50. 7) they had seating outside, in the front too. I saw a few tables there. 8) our waitress brought us a few boxes to go, as we had extra foods left. Cons 1) none Conclusion I like this little place. Not too bad. Service was great. Parking was easy. Lots of stores all around, even a Target close by. You can catch a movie if you wanted too. Movie theatre isn't too far away. I'd come here again if I'm in the area. Not to shabby. I wanted Drunken Noodle. They didn't know what that was. Hahaha. I guess I'm at the wrong Asian restaurant. Lol

    General Tso's Chicken

We went for dinner and ordered the wonton soup, fried rice, chow mein, honey walnut shrimp, and General Tso's chicken. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was good and the portions were fairly large, but the price reflects that. For two people, it gets expensive quickly if you want to order a variety or sample more dishes, since the soup, chow mein, and rice were essentially priced like entrees. I wish they offered a dinner deal for couples that included fried rice and/or chow mein, but for larger groups the family-style sharing makes sense. Next time, when it is just my wife and me, we will go for the lunch special instead.

12/20/2024: Folsom Palace's vegetable pot sticker receipt.

12/20/2024: Before attending Vintage Grace Church TGIF Service, I had one imperative "Honey-Do-List" errand--purchase a light snack at Folsom Palace which must tithe me over until, 7:00 PM. Welp~I decided inhaling something not too heavy but, it MUST satiate my hunger. While waiting for my snack, I began asking the Female Staff where the Chefs learned their cuisine styles . . . Female Staff hesitated responding, "Ahhh~Just different places . . . " That's IT? Where are the Chefs' original hometowns such as are they from Singapore, Macau, Kowloon, Beijing, Shanghai, Malaysia, South Korea~Will you please elaborate, eh? The Female Staff blandly stated, ". . . Just different places." WOT???? IMHO, when a Staff Member doesn't know their Chefs' cuisine cooking styles nor where they were born, it equates not knowing ANYTHING!" The reason for inquiring is due to the coined reference, "Asian Fusion." Anyway, I received Folsom Palace's vegetable pot stickers and took a bite into one potsticker . . . OOOOoooof~the vegetable pot stickers were egregiously too doughy. Seriously, the HUMUNGOUS LET DOWN WAS THERE WAS MINUSCULE FILLING!!!! WTH!!!! I couldn't eat any of the pot stickers!!!! Now, from my YELP! Reviews, you can pretty well understand my reasons for KNOWING ABOUT ASIAN FUSION AND CHINESE CUISINE--I have traveled throughout FAR EAST ASIA inhaling different regions' cuisine for well over FIFTY YEARS!!!! Therefore, Folsom Palace's vegetable pot stickers lacks taste, i.e., horrifically BLAND, no seasoning was put into the vegetables, did I emphatically mention--TASTELESS, egregiously too doughy, and too waterlogged! Moreover, the plate presentation was heinously inadequate for "Asian Fusion" cuisine!!!! Well--My explicative, prose-style word is OUT: Here's a free-for-all soapbox ragging over the Chefs' cooking styles and their "so-called" specialty cuisines they create . . . As a result of ordering and attempting inhaling INEDIBLE potstickers . . . Since the CHEFS can't make a mere simple dish such as vegetable pot stickers: I'M NOT RETURNING INHALING ANYTHING AT FOLSOM PALACE, i.e., Americanized, blasphemed coining "Asian Fusion" equates, INEXCUSABLE, PSEUDO, INEDIBLE CRAP--"kiss my cooloo/looboot~this is NOT "ASIAN FUSION" vegetable filling, pot stickers!!!! BTW: I DO MEAN CRAP!!!! LOOK AT THE VEGETABLE POTSTICKERS--TELL FOLSOM PALACE THIS IS NOT AUTHENTIC "ASIAN FUSION" CUISINE!!!! FYI: FOLSOM PALACE HAS THE WORST POT STICKERS I HAVE EVER BITTEN, I.E., SERIOUSLY REFRAINING INHALING IN ALMOST SEVENTY YEARS OF MY LIFE--NEVER EAT ANYTHING CONSIDERED "ASIAN FUSION" AT FOLSOM PALACE!!!!

Crispy noodles with vegetables and pork
    Tia W.

We came for lunch on a Saturday. The waitress was very kind and gave us plenty of time to look over the very extensive menu. We chose the crispy noodles with vegetable and pork and a chicken and vegetable with brown rice. Both were delicious. They had different flavors and we had plenty to take home for later. The iced tea was also quite delicious. I'm not sure if it was green tea or something else, but it was very enjoyable. The decor was very nice and the atmosphere was relaxed. They also have places to sit outside if you prefer to dine alfresco Highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back.

The restaurant is small and clean, service is good. The meat was good from a tender point of view. and the one breaded item was crispy. The price was normal for Chinese food. The fried rice was white and fluffy. Never had fried rice like that before. The waitress said it's because they don't use msg, soy sauce or oil. It was not very good. It other than the rice everything was good. The portions for the entrees were decent size, more on the smaller size. The Mongolian beef was very good. I would come back here

Here's Jenny the owner with Al. We met her years ago at her first restaurant in Folsom. This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants.

Great food, excellent service and a lovely owner. Just ordered the cashew chicken with chow mein. The lunch is served with the hot & sour soup that is always delicious.

Came here to eat while my Jag was charging. Ordered the Szechuan beef and some rice - very tasty! Too much for one person, but hubby is glad to have the leftovers. Nice little quiet place next to Raleys market. Service was quick and no rush to vacate the table.

This restaurant is the El Dorado Hills (EDH) location. I mention that since there are two Folsom Palace locations. The other is in Folsom. For folks craving an authentic taste of any of the various cuisines of China, they may not fully experience that here. It is not to say the food is not yummy. It is just all about preference. The cuisine is more Asian fusion. I brought out of town folks here for a weekend lunch. They are accustomed to a more authentic cuisine. To me besides the chicken fried rice, all the dishes we ordered tasted the same. The Mongolian beef, mushroom and bok choy, and Hong Kong crispy seafood had a gravy that had the same oyster sauce like flavor. The chicken fired rice was pretty good, I enjoyed that. It was light and not at all oily. I would order that again. The mushroom and bok choy dish tasted promising. If they tweaked that gravy recipe, I would be all over that. The mushrooms were substantially sized with deep umami flavor and the bok choys were cooked while keeping the softness and crispness. They to not cook with MSG, that is a big huge plus with me. I am not a fan of the chemical flavor enhancer which most other Asian restaurants use. The service was pleasant. The interior is beautifully decorated in an ultramodern upscale style.

Northern China Pork Chow Mein (after two servings already removed)

Another regular stop on our local favorite eatery train. This is definitely a truly hidden gem right in our backyard. Storefront location in the Raley's anchored shopping center right off El Dorado Hills Boulevard and Hwy 50. Nicely decorated spot with several very comfortable table settings and a small bar. The staff are exceedingly cheerful as well as helpful and in multiple visits over several years there's never a wait. They do a huge takeout business as well. THE FOOD!!! EVERYTHING IS COOKED TO ORDER! On this most recent visit we arrived late afternoon Sunday for an early dinner and all was quiet. Moments after we ordered, the pleasing symphony of sounds of roaring burners and utensils working magic in woks took over. Lots of chatter and laughter from the cooks that showcase how much they enjoy creating these fine dishes. Soon we had some of our favorite dishes, piled high and piping hot - the food is terrific. On this visit we shared the fried prawn appetizer, Mu Shu Pork and Northern China Pork Chow Mein. The portions are huge and the flavors are heavenly! I invite you to try this hidden gem and discover you're new favorite place!

Modern and sleek design, always top notch service and food tastes delicious and fresh, what more can you ask for? Oh yeah, lunch specials are our go to, they come with soup and your choice or steamed white rice, fried rice or chow mein or a combination of 2 plus the entree! Today's visit was for dinner, we had orange chicken, fried rice, shrimp chow mein and Mongolian beef.

The menu also has wonton soup, noodles, soup dumplings, fried spring rolls, crab rangoons, cucumber salad (Asian style), Chinese egg custards, bbq pork buns, sesame red bean paste fried balls,, stir fry veggies, taro steamed buns, and some other items. I've tried the dumplings boiled, steamed, and pan fried. The boiled ones are slippery and best when I'm in the mood to have them swirled in a sauce like hot chili oil. Streamed ones have a slight chew to the dumpling exterior than the boiled or fried dumplings. But doesn't take away from the taste. Pan fried is good when you want a crispier exterior and slight crunch. Whatever way you order 'em... it's all good! The egg custards, sesame balls, and crab rangoons are classic and my other go tos. I enjoy the diversity of the menu. Gotta confess, in Folsom there is not a lot of these good authentic dumpling places. Plus throw in some dim sum items...score! Is it Michelin star, no. It is homemade and comforting, yes! The place is clean, comfortable, and has basic furnishings and decor. There is no music or TV. The owner works most of the shifts. It truly is a small family business that welcomes your family.

SoCal and the Bay Area are where it's at for Asian food... and Vancouver!! Okay, sorry, I'm rambling now. Anyways, I'm glad I ventured a little farther out to Folsom to grab some delicious food. Their orange chicken is super flavorful, and I loved that they used real oranges. The Kung Pao chicken is amazing--they include a variety of veggies and squash, which I loved. The beef chow mein was on point as well. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the chow mein was a little too soft (though the flavor was there), and the price felt a bit steep for the portion size. Three orders for $60--eeep! I miss the good ol' days when a whole plate was filled to the rim and overflowing from the to-go box for $12-$15, but it is what it is. Anyways, if you've got the dough, I'd spend it here. Anyways, back to the review...we were the first diners to arrive. My oldest son is always down for Poke! Nolan ordered a large and it was 5 scoops of protein for $25.95 (fairly small scoops imo), with a base of his choice and he chose mix rice and mixed greens. I asked him what his thoughts were and he said it was nothing special and that it was kinda pricey for what he got. He also said he was confused when he was trying to pick the fish from the buffet space as it didn't match the signs in front of them so he had to order from the menu and watch the guys put it in his bowl. Not sure if they just weren't ready for us as we were the first diners of the day. My youngest ordered the Taco trio which consists of 1 Ahi Poke Taco, 1 Salmon Poke Taco and 1 Cooked Salmon Taco for $19.99. The entree came out looking pretty appetizing but we were disappointed that the taco shells were all stale. Not crunchy in anyway. My son ate most of the filling and left the shells. We ordered the SALMON CARPACCIO which was described as 7 pieces thinly sliced fresh salmon, microgreens, sesame seeds, japanese seven spice, yuzu ponzu for 18.50 to share. When this came out, my son was so surprised that it was so tiny as it was not enough to share so my little man had it all to himself. I couldn't decide what to order. I debated on the fish and chips but was told they didn't have batter so it was a no go special today. The said the poke nacho's was popular but I wasn't craving poke personally. So my partner and I ended up ordering (2) servings of Garlic Shrimp. When I asked how many shrimps came with the servings, the guy behind the counter didn't know. It came out with 7 shrimps and a tiny bit of garlic over a ton of rice. Flavor was good, I wanted more sauce and garlic to go with the rice we were given. This place doesn't skimp on rice in their bowls. All in all, portions to prices were a bit off for us. The guys behind the counters were nice. Place was clean.
