If you're in Folsom and haven't tried Burma Lite yet, you're seriously missing out. This place has become my go-to, and for good reason. The food is consistently amazing and packed with flavor. The tea leaf salad is a must. Super fresh, crunchy, and unlike anything else around here. The basil chili lamb brings the perfect balance of heat and flavor, and the eggplant is cooked perfectly every time. The sesame chicken is crispy and flavorful. It and the coconut rice balanced the spiciness of the lamb and eggplant perfectly. My wife likes to wash it down with a blue moon. I believe the traditional Burmese beer is similar. Everything I've had here has been solid, and you can tell they actually care about the quality of their food. This was my first time eating here and the food was good but not spectacular. The tea leaf salad was tasty, but I've had better at other restaurants. The Minted Jalapeno Chicken was tasty, however there was not a lot of mint. The portion was very generous with lots of chicken. The Burmese Garlic Noodles did not contain as much garlic as I would expect. The Burmese Garlic Noodles included a very small side of spicy pickled vegetables which complimented the dish well. I ordered a takeout Mix Veggie Kebat. I was very happy with the variety of veggies, including large tomato wedges, some okra, carrots, onions, and string beans. The heat level (0-4, this was 2) was great. Definitely had some kick, but not overpowering at all. It also had a lot of strips of tofu. The texture was a bit disappointing to me, as I prefer fresh tofu. These were ... not. They weren't fried, which is good, but they were a bit chewy for me, however they were made. They weren't terrible, though -- just not my preference. I also wish (as I often do for most stir fry dishes anywhere) that it was a bit less oily. I stopped into Burma Light to pick up some take-out, I have heard great things from other Yelpers and I ended up ordering some of the most popular items according to the Yelp reviews. I placed my order online for pick-up and got the Burmese Garlic Noodle ($13), the Burmese Pad Thai ($13) and the Tea Leaf Salad ($16). Everything was ready and well packed when I stopped in and the restaurant is clean, open and welcoming. Their staff member greeted me right away and asked if I needed plastic cutlery, but since I was taking it home I was all good. Once I arrived home I unpacked everything and it was all thoughtfully packed. They use the nice plastic, microwavable containers and they were PACKED with food. You definitely receive a generous portion for the noodle dishes. The salad was packed in a paper box with the dressing and the toppings in their own plastic containers. I ended up throwing everything in a large mixing bowl in order to get it properly mixed and make sure there was dressing and nuts in every bite. While I'm not 100% sure why this salad is more expensive than the noodle dishes, I will say it was my favorite of the three. I can tell why it's the top dish listed on Yelp. It was flavorful, filling, and had a good variety of textures with the greens, nuts, toppings, and dressing. I would order this every time. The Burmese Pad Thai was very tasty too. I ordered mine with tofu and the pieces were cut into strips. I personally prefer tofu cubes but these pressed strips held up really well and it was a nice change from what I'm used to. This was my first time trying Burmese food as well so it was fun seeing how these flavors differ from the Thai version I'm used to. The Garlic noodles were my least favorite of the three dishes. The noodles have a great texture but I don't think I'm a fan of the sauce. Definitely a personal preference, since this is one of their top dishes. I love Asian and Indian cuisines. I've had Burmese cuisine and loved fermented tea leaf salad. Burma Light makes a good tea leaf salad. I prefer the jalapeño to be diced and small so I didn't eat all of them. And my fav tea leaf salad will likely continue to be found at a certain Davis, CA eatery. But this restaurant is closer and still offers a good salad. Salt & pepper calamari was delicious with green onions and jalapeño with a tasty sweet dipping sauce. The mixed vegetables curry is fantastic, too. I confirmed I love okra and now like eggplant as long as it's not the star of the dish. Jasmine rice was fine. Parking was very easy (across Bidwell from Taco Express). Service was good. Man taking my phone order answered quickly and was helpful. However, the women who worked there were super kind. Ok the important part-- food! We started with the mango salad, and 10/10 probably my favorite dish of the evening. It reminded me of the tomato salad from Burma Love in SF. I love that restaurant, so this is the next best thing. The salad is umami, tart, yet savory all at the same time! It's light, but also fulfilling. Samosas are okay at best, I've had better. They're really big and great for sharing, 6/10! And the plata was very coconutty, if you're into coconut curry, 6/10. Onto the entrees! Everything is portioned so big, definitely could be served family style! Burmese Garlic Noodles 7/10, I added shrimp. The noodles are chewy, and have good texture. The shrimp was also so fresh and buttery, yum!! The Pad Thai with chicken was honestly my favorite of the dishes, the noodles are different than other restaurants. They were bouncy and chewy. I really liked that the noodles weren't stuck together, 10/10. The Chicken Briyani was very fragrant and the chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender, 7/10. The Beef Tofu wasn't my cup of tea, probably because it was too salty for my liking, but my brother enjoyed it 5/10! Overall, I'd come back again! The menu suggests many items are gluten free or can be made gluten free which is a great thing for those with celiac or gluten intolerance. In reality, however, they have no clue what it is to have a food intolerance or allergy because to be truly gluten free means no shared fryers or surfaces. I told them I had an allergy when I ordered but they brought out a lunch combo with a salad with fried garlic - when I stated I couldn't eat it they suggested I just scrape the salad off the plate. I tried to explain the plate was now a potential risk for me as the food was touching and I was given a look and the plate taken away. A new plate brought out but with no salad, I inquired as I really wanted some veggies, and was told "you didn't want it". I had to explain that it wasn't that I didn't want it and that I have a food allergy. They did finally bring a salad without the fried garlic and I ate my lunch - it was tasty (hence 2 stars instead of 1) - but I was really uncomfortable as I was made to feel as if my allergy was an inconvenience and waste of food by the multiple looks and frowns. I get very sick when I eat gluten and it can cause long term gut damage. A food intolerance or allergy should not be treated as inconsequential and they shouldn't suggest they can accommodate them if they don't understand that. read more

I met a friend for lunch at Burma Light this week and it was as good as I expected! The place is beautiful, very clean with nice decor and a modern look. The menu is extensive- there are lots of vegan/vegetarian as well as chicken, shrimp etc. The lunch menu is a bit cheaper, the entrees come with salad and jasmine rice. I had the basil chili chicken and it was great! Spicy and tender. I really loved the salad. My friend had the pumpkin curry and they made it without sugar at her request. It tasted very fresh, crisp, and had a good flavor to them. The eggplant dish was ok. I'll eat eggplant, but it's not my favorite. We liked the nan. It was hot and fresh. We ordered the Lamb Curry, but I don't eat lamb. I did not try that. The others at the table did like it. The Salt and Pepper Calamari was very good. I would definitely order that again. We ordered mild Burmese lamb curry with rice and garlic noodles with shrimp. We went there on Saturday at noon, and the staff was able to get us a seat very quickly. The lamb was delicious and easy to chew. I was able to request less seasoning for the noodles. The shrimps were fresh. The curry flavor was rich and chicken was very tender. Would order this again. * Basil & Chili Lamb - the ladies at the table next to us asked what we ordered because it looked so good! We shared some with them and the first thing they noticed was how tender the lamb was. Similar to Chinese stir-fried lamb dishes and full of flavor. Recommend ordering jasmine rice to eat it with. * Nan Gyi Dok - my least favorite of everything; I think the noodle texture after absorbing the curry sauce was a bit too creamy for my liking. The star of the meal was the Burmese Iced Tea. Like Thai Tea but a deeper flavor and so delicious. I would go back just for this. But the food was really good too. Maybe a little cramped if it was full, but still wonderfully appointed with nice fixtures. This would be a good first date night type of place. Amazing everything!! We got the plata and coconut curry dip, pad Thai, and Burmese chicken curry and everything was so fresh and delicious! The flavors were vibrant and the spices added to the dish instead of being spicy for the sake of being spicy. It was the perfect service as well. Our server and hostess were super nice and welcoming and refilled our drinks many times without asking and checked in at the appropriate moments. A lot more eggplant than shrimp served, but it was really good. I liked that the eggplant was not soggy. Makes me want to try the Eggplant Curry next time. Coconut Fried Pudding. Perfect dessert. I loved the fried whatever it was, haha. Didn't really taste any coconut, but it didn't matter because it just tasted so good. It paired very well with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. I decided to order the Burmese Style Chicken Curry (spice level: medium) with a side of Jasmine Rice and the Burmese Garlic Noodles (plain). Both dishes were extremely flavorful and palatable. I enjoyed everything from start to finish. What I appreciated was that the food came out quickly, too. The customer service was impeccably phenomenal. My server during the visit was Helen.
