Finally checking out the new spot that took over my beloved Perilla. I was a little hesitant to get any kind of Japanese food in the fidi because of the price and and I don't know how the quality is as a first timer. I looked through the yelp reviews and pictures and it looked decent enough! I get there 5 min before they open and waited outside until they were ready. I walk in at 11am and I am literally the only one there and the FIRST to order. I ordered the lion king roll and appetizer veggie tempura. The guy said it would be ready in 10min A guy comes in maybe 10 min later to eat there. After him a gal comes in a little later and ordered from what I heard the chicken curry plate? It's already 11:20am....the guy got his bento box and the girl got her order. This was not a good first impression. Was my order forgotten? I would like to think my order would have come out before any of theirs. I would have been ok if they said it would be ready in 20min, but to say 10min and get it in 20? It was a little annoying but whatever. I would understand it if it was busy. It wasn't. I didn't even get the chance to eat it anyway during lunch. Ate it at home so I can't give a great review on it since it's not fresh. BUT I think some things are still good even after it's cold. Tempura: the veggies seemed hard and not too soft to bite into like others I love and have tried. Lion King Roll: I feel like the salmon was overcooked? I'm not sure but I don't see any kind of orange or the color of salmon when it's baked like a pink? This is like a brown or gray? I took the salmon off. I mean it was ok but $30 for this? I'll stick to my seared salmon across the street from Ebiko. That was my initial choice, but strayed away to try something new. read more

tldr: good for sushi, but the rest of the menu options are pretty mid. also food doesn't not come out all at one time, it's extremely staggered. the noodle dishes are pretty mid. the yakisoba took an additional 20 mins after all the other food came out - which was a chicken and salmon teriyaki bento box, tempura udon, and ramen. the sushi was good here, we got a 3 amigos role and it was solid fish. i would say maybe just get sushi next time you're here. my party of 4 came at around 7 on a friday night and there were only 3 other parties, so plenty of space for us to get seated fast. read more

I went alone here and my experience was really really good. The ambience is not the Greatest here but oh boy I loved the food and the service. First to start off they gave complimentary miso soup and salad. Miso soup was just so good and it was a cold windy day. I needed a hot soup. I was craving katsu curry and rice and they had that. And it was really good. I really wanted a little bit more curry but it's fine I enjoyed it. I also had hot sake and it was piping hot. Highly recommend this place for taste. We ended up loving this place, and would likely come back again! The service was wonderful, and the server was very nice to us! The ambiance is also nice! It's on the smaller side, but definitely doesn't feel too small, and the Japanese-style decor is a great touch! The food was very good and totally delicious! I loved every sip of my miso soup and every bite of my bento box! I got the spicy tuna roll and salmon teriyaki for the bento box, and the tuna was so fresh while the salmon was fatty and smoky! I had the sushi deluxe with yellowtail and a hot sake. The Wife had a veggie tempura plate with salad. We were the only people in the place on a Friday night, so service was good. It was also an attractive space. The prices were quite good as well, even in comparison to places outside the City. But the salads were quite sad, with very pale produce. The fish were thin cuts, and the roll had six pieces, with very little inside. The tempura and sake were fine, as was the miso soup. Hard to screw those up. Was really craving chicken katsu curry and this was the closest restaurant that offered it in my location. I was able to order online and pick up my food within 15 minutes. I ordered directly from the website, which was listed as most preferred by business. The chicken katsu curry was $15.10 and I added an order of takoyaki for $8ish. Even with tip included, the total came out to be more affordable than the surrounding options. The portion was so good in my opinion and the chicken came out crispy and juicy. The bowl included the chicken on top of rice, curry sauce on the side, a small salad, and a bit of pickled veggies. As I was eating, I kept recommending this place to my coworkers who said they're going to give it a try the following week. I came here for a late lunch. I missed having an Asian restaurant in the area and although I miss Perilla, I'm happy that Japanese House has taken its place. It was a chilly day and I wanted something warm and comforting. They had a chicken katsu curry rice dish which came with miso soup. You order from the QR code on the table so you don't have to wait for someone to take your order. The chicken katsu also came with pickled vegetables. The katsu was nicely fried and crispy and went really well with the curry rice; it was like a warm hug :) Service was friendly and efficient. Super easy to miss since it's next to a construction site but such a great experience! The prices were budget friendly despite being in the pricey FiDi area. Oh, I remember this space when it was the original Perilla because I was kinda addicted to their five-spice chicken with garlic noodles back when I was a FiDi working drone. They closed this location a while ago, but Jamie W let me know a Japanese fast food operation moved in. He liked it, and that was enough of a testimonial for me to give it a try. As far as I could tell, it's not Japanese-owned, but hey, I'm not prejudiced. Much. Besides, there are Japanese people who don't know how to cook Japanese themselves (...finger pointed at me). Regardless, the staff here have the skillz to make standard Japanese dishes in a hearty fashion judging from my order. While I technically ordered an appetizer and an entree, it amounted to a double lunch. Little hole in the wall by Salesforce but good food and decent prices! I came in on a Thursday for a late lunch and was the only one seated inside. The server was nice, food was delivered pretty quickly. I ordered gyozas, 2 stars for them as they weren't all that tasty. I've definitely had better gyozas, more flavorful. I also had the tempura udon soup and while it was plain, it was really delicious and the servings of tempura were great! Served fresh and good variety of veggies. I really wanted to like this- a cool casual sushi spot is much needed in this area but unfortunately this didn't quite hit the mark. For starters the pickup order was 20 minutes later than the pickup time- but the server was pleasant. All of the food was decent- but just not great. Chicken karage wasn't as crisp as I'd have liked, but it had a good dipping sauce. Lion king roll was the worst of the four I had, felt undercooked or like something was missing. The rock n roll's unagi was too mushy. The 49er roll didn't taste right without the imitation crab, and the California roll was just okay. The sushi rice also didnt stick together well which made holding pieces with tricky. I don't regret eating any of it- but probably won't return. read more

This place is ok. I come here sometimes as my office is nearby, and my only real complaint is the pricing. I usually get a bento box for lunch with chicken teriyaki and a California roll. For $18.50, not getting a full roll of sushi is a bit outrageous to me (though I grew up in NYC where bento boxes are usually $12-$15). Other than that, the food is pretty decent; nothing crazy, and the staff are friendly! They offered me free green tea while I waited for my takeout. Service was fast and friendly and even at peak lunch hour, table turnover was quick enough that we didn't have to wait for a table at all. It's a stone's throw from beautiful Salesforce Park, so make sure you visit that 4th floor level park either before, to work up an appetite or after, to work off the calories. Been wanting to try this place since it recently opened and is right across from the office! I got a 49ers roll and Salmon - Spicy Tuna bento box (set price lunch and dinner). I wasn't too impressed with the roll as there wasn't actually much salmon on the sushi, and the salmon on the outside kept falling off when picked up. The bento box had a much more generous portion of Salmon teriyaki with some smokey-flavor. Salad dressing and tuna roll were all right, but portions were slightly more conservative. As an avid sushi lover, it was great to see a casual sushi restaurant open up in the neighborhood that is open in the evenings and weekend. I've been here a couple times now and can say their fish is legit. It's soft, fresh and their nigiri rice is seasoned lightly, cooked well, and not too tightly packed. Taste like the home style sushi you might get in Japan. So far I've tried the sushi deluxe, chirashi, 3 amigos roll, and salmon nigiri. Their nigiri is my fav so far. Rolls r nice and big. Sashimi and chirashi are standard. But their nigiri is where it's at. Something about the fresh fish, topped on the perfectly textured and seasoned rice. I appreciate that the nigiri rice is kinda loosely packed too. The bite just melts in your mouth. The ratio of rice to fish is also good. They get a little busy during lunch so expect a pick up order to be about 15 mins wait. But dinner was pretty dead and a good place to pop in for dinner otw home from the office. They don't serve alcohol but they mentioned we can byob which is exciting. I'll update this review if this changes. They're in an unfortunate location that tends to have encampments nearby, but I still go. Please check them out so they stay in the neighborhood!!!!! read more

Had a Chirashi for lunch, and I feel very disappointed and even sick after had it. They put too much vinegar in the rice, and it tastes very sour. The sashimi was not fresh and very low quality, the hamachi tastes bad and I have to spit out. Should just waited in line at the sushi to go place across the street. Had a craving for tonkatsu so I stopped by. Got Katsu curry. Katsu slices were thin and low quality chicken thigh meat - kind of stringy. The chicken in the chicken curry was worryingly rubbery. I'm not a food snob but was worried this wasn't cooked right and with low quality ingredients you need to at least make sure it's cooked through. This is after they first brought me the wrong dish and service in general was not great. I was thinking the place in general might be a hidden authentic spot but it's not. I noticed this place recently opened and stopped by to get a takeout dinner bc I I had to work late. I arrived around 5 when most people are leaving the office to go home so it wasn't busy. I was greeted immediately and took a takeout menu to look at! The place is small and no frills but has plenty of tables for sit down lunch or dinner as well. I ordered a salmon (chirashi) bowl and a roll. The bowl also came with salad and a miso soup. The lady was nice enough to give me some hot tea to drink while I was waiting which was not expected but very nice of her! I only waited about 5-10 min for my food and it was packaged up nicely and I was back in the office on the laptop in no time. The salmon was fresh and really nice texture! I actually couldn't finish it and didn't get to the roll or the soup! Overall I really enjoyed it, it was a good healthy meal, fast to pick up, and a good price. I'd come back here for lunch for takeout. They had a bento box meal that I might try next. Totally appreciative of this place as there are fewer lunch options in FiDi post Covid, and totally support having a quick place around the corner :) thank you so much! read more

Rounding up because they are new, the people there are nice, and because this is by far the cheapest Japanese food (and some of the cheapest food of any type) in the neighborhood. I got the Tenzaru Soba, which is a plate of vegetable tempura along with cold soba (it's supposed to be cold) and dipping sauce. Both the tempura and the soba quality was pretty average, but this dish was somehow only $13. You can't even get a sandwich for that in this neighborhood! The neighborhood itself is obviously really nice, but this is on the one sketchy corner diagonal from Salesforce Tower amid the permanently halted construction zone for Oceanwide. That shouldn't stop you from trying it out though. read more

This hole in the wall is a welcome addition to the FiDi area downtown. My first visit here was pretty great. The service was quick and considerate. The food was largely great value for the buck. I gave the chirashi bowl a shot, and it was a win. My friend ordered sushi, and the only nitpick was that the roll size was not consistent throughout the roll. Giving this a preemptive 5/5. It is great value for the price point, and the quality is consistent with it. If you're coming here expecting high-end, you're coming in with the wrong expectations.
