Great Japanese Restaurant Near Union Square! We stopped by this sushi/Japanese restaurant near Union Square for dinner on a Friday night, and we had a wonderful experience. We ordered the sashimi/sushi, bento box, ramen, and sake, and everything was delicious, fresh, and satisfying. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our dinner. The restaurant itself is pretty with authentic Japanese decor, great lighting, and a spacious, comfortable atmosphere. We also really enjoyed the music, which added to the overall vibe without being overwhelming. Overall, this is a great spot for Japanese food near Union Square. Nice sushi place walking distance from Union Square! Clean interior and fast service. I got the Oma Ramen with Shoyu broth, which is a vegetarian option. It was served deliciously hot and was so yummy - perfect for a chilly city day. My friends got the orange dragon roll, a bento box, and the crunch salmon roll. I thought they were pretty good, but one of my friends thought the salmon didn't look or taste very fresh. I do appreciate their variety of specialty rolls offered. Overall a nice lunch. read more

Place is so close to my hotel that I must have to check their food. Can't go wrong with sushi for dinner so hey why not. They also have bento boxes and sushi platters. Check out what I ordered. Service is very friendly. Place is small but can accommodate large groups. Now food is amazingly good. One of the sushi that I ordered was missing a an eel sauce which it says on the menu. I informed my waitress but she said it didn't have any eel sauce for that type of sushi. Well, I guess they need to update their menu for any confusion of the detailed menu. Tried this sushi place because it is right across from my hotel so it was very convenient. I ordered the salmon, sushi deluxe, and also the udon. Everything was good but I think there are better places. I came here twice and though it was pretty good both time. I would come here again because of convenience. The servers are also very nice and friendly but what surprised me was that they charged 10 percent for to go orders. Oma Sushi has some things going for it - the prices are fair for SF and the food itself was actually pretty good. The sushi rolls were fresh and well-prepared, and portion sizes felt reasonable for what you pay. However, the service really brought down what could have been a solid experience. My server had a pretty unpleasant attitude throughout the meal, which I could have overlooked, but when I mentioned that the plates weren't clean, there was no apology or attempt to make it right. Just basic acknowledgment would have gone a long way, but instead it felt like an inconvenience to even bring it up. It's a shame because the food quality is there and the pricing is competitive. With better service training, this place could really shine. As it stands, I probably won't be returning even though the sushi itself was decent. We were looking for a restaurant nearby because we were going to watch SIX (Musical) in the area. We stumbled upon this place and it did not disappoint. The service here is amazing! For the past 10 or so years this has been my dad's go to restaurant anytime he visits for his conference. He always gets the same Nabeyaki Udon, and my brother and I are suckers for the chicken/tonkatsu, along with some sushi. The sushi is okay and the katsus at least in display have changed throughout the years (used to come with a salad), haven't tried the udon but looks okay. I guess the food is a 3, but the nostalgia (and the nice service) is what adds that extra star for me. read more

Came just before 9:30 and it was last call and they flipped their sign to closed right after (website says they close at 10:30). They turned away 2-3 groups after 9:30pm. It was cold out and just felt like soup so got the small miso soup and the veggie udon. The small miso soup was good but was served lukewarm (maybe because it was close to closing) I'd give it a 2.5/5 The veggie udon was amazing and nice and fresh and hot. I'd give that a 4.5/5. It was a generous portion too. I'd love more tofu and mushrooms in it but overall it was just what I wanted. Server was polite but definitely seemed irritated I paid cash to try to make it fast and I thought most places prefer it since there's credit card fees for them but it seemed like a hassle. Eaten here a few times, they have wonderful service and great food. The staff are very friendly and understanding, and joked with us quite a bit. They have a clean and homely atmosphere with the faux Japanese windows and furniture. It's a bit expensive but cheap sushi in the middle of downtown is pretty sparse. You're at least getting larger portions for your price. Usually ordering family style helps with that and allows everyone to try something. In addition to the sushi, they have some regular Japanese entrees and appetizers that I've enjoyed. In particular, the zaru soba was a nice option during the warm SF days that I wasn't expecting here. My friends enjoy having a spot to also get a variety of sake or soju. I was in SF and was craving a quick meal. I wanted agedashi tofu/tempura and this spot was the first thing that popped up on doordash. I noticed that they had 4 stars on yelp and decided to give them a try and was extremely disappointed. Agedashi tofu: this was so bland. I've had agedashi tofu at plenty of other places and this was just not it. The tofu was not seasoned well and there was barely any toppings. Veggie tempura: I ordered this thinking I'd get at least a box full. The box is super tiny and look at the amount I got..for $11. We were looking for a place to eat close to the Curran Theater and the kids wanted sushi. I actually got turned around and was heading the wrong direction towards a Yelp listed restaurant, but leave it to The City to handle that problem because there was another sushi bar along the way. It was actually rated higher than the one we were headed to, so it was a win-win! We were seated right away and had a back booth. They had plexi glass between the booths, which was a comfort in our COVID stricken world. We ordered a bunch of stuff - edamame, seaweed salad, Sake Don, Charachi Don, rainbow roll, 49er roll (in honor of their first playoff game today!), an OMG and sake. I have to say on the top, the fish was very fresh and the slices generous on the Dons, the rolls were big, too. My only criticism was that the Dons were not plated in a very creative way - no greens, no daikon, just fish over rice. Also, the salmon was still partially frozen. Granted a few dips in wasabi soy took care of that, but still an unpleasant experience biting into semi-frozen fish. At least we knew the microorganisms were dead! (You know, raw fish is frozen to kill off bugs before being served to public.) The service was great, too. They were responsive and able to get our check ready while we added on two more rolls. I decided to ignore some of the more negative reviews and give Oma a shot, because a) it was really close to my hotel, and b) lately I feel like a few of my fellow yelpers have led me astray (sorry). I did an early solo lunch. I ordered two rolls - spicy salmon and tuna/avocado. I'm not really a fancy roll kinda gal. They came within about 10 minutes. 6 large pieces each. Perfect amount to satisfy my sushi craving and fuel my upcoming shopping trip. Price was very reasonable. I think somewhere around $15 before tip? The service was no nonsense and super efficient. Question: I couldn't find sashimi or nigiri on the menu. Was I missing part of the menu, or do they just not serve it? Anyway, I'll definitely be back. read more

In the Union Square area so probably geared towards tourists and it was close to our hotel so we decided to give it a try. The sushi was ok. We have sushi so much that I think our bar is pretty high. I didn't find it that tasty, and some of it was a bit chewier than I would have liked. And, too many dishes either with tempura or imitation crab. And, does anyone ever order the Philly roll with cream cheese? Yuck. There are a million sushi places in town, so I would not go back. Being generous with 3 stars. Ordered the lion king roll in advance since that one takes about 15 minutes but it actually came out pretty quick. Also ordered beef sukiyaki and katsudon. I think compared to other sukiyaki that I had there is less veggies in this one but they had decent amount of meet. Portions were pretty decent for the price and they were around $15-$18 ish. The spicy miso ramen is delicious. It is made with pork. Went here July 2022 and it was so needed because it was cold in San Fran. I live on the east coast so I thought it was hot all over the US. Great service! And flavorful food! We had beef Udon: broth was super good and the depth of flavor, oh man. Our toddler had the gyoza and miso soup, he loved it so much. Babe had tempura udon and we shared a sushi roll. All deliciousness! The service was great! Quick, friendly & really just on top of it! Our son spilled water and I had extra napkins (cuz I'm a Mom) and I had set it aside to wipe any more spills, but they took it but provided more napkins every time I used up a napkin.
