Oma Sushi has some things going for it - the prices are fair for SF and the food itself was actually pretty good. The sushi rolls were fresh and well-prepared, and portion sizes felt reasonable for what you pay. However, the service really brought down what could have been a solid experience. My server had a pretty unpleasant attitude throughout the meal, which I could have overlooked, but when I mentioned that the plates weren't clean, there was no apology or attempt to make it right. Just basic acknowledgment would have gone a long way, but instead it felt like an inconvenience to even bring it up. It's a shame because the food quality is there and the pricing is competitive. With better service training, this place could really shine. As it stands, I probably won't be returning even though the sushi itself was decent. There are too many other options in the city where you can get good food and good service together.

Place is so close to my hotel that I must have to check their food. Can't go wrong with sushi for dinner so hey why not. They also have bento boxes and sushi platters. Check out what I ordered. Service is very friendly. Place is small but can accommodate large groups. Now food is amazingly good. One of the sushi that I ordered was missing a an eel sauce which it says on the menu. I informed my waitress but she said it didn't have any eel sauce for that type of sushi. Well, I guess they need to update their menu for any confusion of the detailed menu. Overall food was very tasty.

Tried this sushi place because it is right across from my hotel so it was very convenient. I ordered the salmon, sushi deluxe, and also the udon. Everything was good but I think there are better places. I came here twice and though it was pretty good both time. I would come here again because of convenience. The servers are also very nice and friendly but what surprised me was that they charged 10 percent for to go orders. I would probably preferred it just into the price but maybe that's just a sf thing. The ambiance is also nice and clean.

We were looking for a restaurant nearby because we were going to watch SIX (Musical) in the area. We stumbled upon this place and it did not disappoint. The service here is amazing! Our server blew me away when we ordered 7 different things and she was able to remember all of it without writing it down. The reviews definitely set my standards lower. The food wasn't anything super special but my cravings were satisfied. I enjoyed the udon a lot!

Came just before 9:30 and it was last call and they flipped their sign to closed right after (website says they close at 10:30). They turned away 2-3 groups after 9:30pm. It was cold out and just felt like soup so got the small miso soup and the veggie udon. The small miso soup was good but was served lukewarm (maybe because it was close to closing) I'd give it a 2.5/5 The veggie udon was amazing and nice and fresh and hot. I'd give that a 4.5/5. It was a generous portion too. I'd love more tofu and mushrooms in it but overall it was just what I wanted. Server was polite but definitely seemed irritated I paid cash to try to make it fast and I thought most places prefer it since there's credit card fees for them but it seemed like a hassle. I'd give it a 3.5 if we could give half stars!

This place was great. Walked over from the Axiom hotel. A few tables were eating but not too busy. The waitress helped me select options since everything looked so good. Great dressing. Great presentation, great quality, huge portions and a great staff. Food was hot and served rather quickly

World class service and comfortable decor and booths. Delicious and fresh sushi. The super white tuna was so crisp and buttery.

Eaten here a few times, they have wonderful service and great food. The staff are very friendly and understanding, and joked with us quite a bit. They have a clean and homely atmosphere with the faux Japanese windows and furniture. It's a bit expensive but cheap sushi in the middle of downtown is pretty sparse. You're at least getting larger portions for your price. Usually ordering family style helps with that and allows everyone to try something. In addition to the sushi, they have some regular Japanese entrees and appetizers that I've enjoyed. In particular, the zaru soba was a nice option during the warm SF days that I wasn't expecting here. My friends enjoy having a spot to also get a variety of sake or soju. Overall, a nice spot to bring friends or coworkers if you're in the area without worrying about a small menu or tighter budgets.

My friend and I didn't have a reservation since we thought a Thursday early dinner wouldn't be busy! We arrived just in time - there was a little wait when we arrived around 5pm, but there was a cancellation so we were able to get seated at the bar instead of the outdoor patio :) Everything we ordered was amazingggggg! I was quite impressed since it seemed more of a cocktail bar bite vibes. It is a bit pricy though, but I can't say my money spent was not worth it. I definitely want to come back and try their matcha drinks though. The only downside is the location since there's not much parking during the day.

The matcha itself was pretty strong and pronounced in flavor, which I enjoyed. The cream top was quite thick on top and didn't have any added sweetness so it was more of a textural element more than anything else. It also had some kinako powder on top which I thought was a nice touch! This was my first time getting to sit inside the restaurant and it had a nice broody/speakeasy vibe to it. There was also an outdoor patio that you could enjoy as well. I know that Shoji turns into a restaurant at night so I can definitely see how this would be a great spot for a date night. However, during the day, the space was even being used by customers as a meeting space/study space. I would be back again if I were in the area, but like most SF spots, parking was an absolute nightmare!

We went on a Monday night and were surprised that there was still over an hour wait, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. Thankfully, we were able to grab some drinks while we waited. The Yuzu Chu-Hi was probably my favorite drink of the night, it was light, refreshing, and easy to drink. For food, we started with the Teba No Karaage, which had a perfectly crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful meat. We also ordered the San Ten Mori, and the fish was very fresh. We especially enjoyed the yuzu wasabi that came with the dish, which added a nice kick and complemented the fish really well. We also tried the Chiizu Tori Katsu. The chicken itself was juicy, but I wished both the chicken and the cheese had a little more flavor. Most of the flavor came from the sauce on the side. I was also a bit disappointed by the snowy cabbage dressing, although that may just be because I'm used to the dressing being on the sweeter side. One thing that really stood out was the warm and welcoming service. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back to try the skewers next time.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish.
