    At the Rio Food court
    Rangie T.

Staying at the Rio Casino Hotel in Las Vegas and upon arrival and finished checking in, I was super hungry from the long drive, so I headed straight to the newly renovated food court at the Rio. With many options from Ramen, Sushi, Burritos, Smashed Burgers, NYC Chicken tenders and straight from Philadelphia, Tony Lukes. I decided to go with Tony Lukes and see how good true Philly Cheese Steaks are supposed to be. I went with the traditional beef with onions and Kraft Cheese whiz. The roll was crunchy and perfectly toasted. A decent amount of meat (A little more meat would have been nice), and the gewey cheese whiz were all perfectly blending with one another. Decently priced. I recommend you give it a try.

Located inside the Rio Hotel and Casino at the food court, I've never been to Philadelphia, but I do love cheese steaks. What I found at Tony. Luke's was a high-quality cheesesteak. The Service at the counter, and from the guys cooking was friendly and approachable when I asked him questions of how I should get it.. As far as a sandwich, it was delicious. I ordered mine with onions and mushrooms. Lots and lots of meat which was delicious. The bread was also on point would definitely go back.

Felt like a cheesesteak sandwich as I walked past Tony Luke's. Never tried them when I visited Philly so I figured maybe as well try it in LV. Put my order in on the kiosk and sat at their counter. Sandwiches came hot off the flat top. Bread was crunchy yet chewy. Meats with grilled onion topped with cheese whiz was excellent. Very messy...but so tasty. It's just like what I imagined it would taste like if I ate it in Philly. I wished they had fries to go with it but they only have chips. Saved me some calories.

I heard the Rio had updated their food court and I was driving by so I figure let me go check it out. Plus I was starving. I had some good choices and I chose Tony Luke's. They had some great sandwhich choices on the menu and i ordered thr cheese steak, some chips and a drink. I havent eaten all day and i needed food bad. I was a bit upset that it was taking so long but when I got it and the sandwhich was so hot I realized I was waiting a bit longer for a reason. It was pretty good. I was happy. What seemed like unlimited soft drinks was a plus.

Had a quick bite from here before heading back home and got the Philly cheesesteak with mild provolone cheese. It was just okay. The meat needed seasoning, some salt, some pepper. Anything it was bland. Cheese was melted nicely and the bread was good. Could use something spicy to give it a little kick. Ordering was done via kiosk. Got the sandwich pretty quickly after ordering. And it was nice that it was warm. Plenty of seating as it was the food court for the rio hotel.

Rio gave me a $25/night food credit so I dined at a variety of places in their new Canteen Food Hall. Grabbed a Cheesesteak from Tony Lukes. You can order from the Canteen Food Hall website which is super convenient and you have the option to charge it to your room in order to use the food credit. I got the cheesesteak with provolone and they have two different kinds of peppers but one is at an additional cost. I added the free one!

Roast Pork Italian ($15.00) with sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, and sweet peppers (but those were kinda hot)

Maybe the casino should Luke to add an Emmy's, a Grammy's, and an Oscar's... Tony Luke's is a Philadelphia concept that may largely consist of franchises and certainly tends to be placed at captive dining sorts of areas (casinos, stadiums, airports). This location is in the Canteen Food Hall of the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and has remained open since the whole concept debuted about a year ago. I finally decided to check them out after the Rio gave me some food & beverage credit to use via their Rio Rewards program. Rather than waiting in line for the cashier, I went to a kiosk that services the whole food hall and made my order and customizations there. Payment is via a card reader, and the Rio players card is supported and fairly straightforward to use. My order took a few minutes to get ready only because there were a few people ahead of me in line. I know people tend to flock to the cheesesteaks, but I have had a history of experiencing bland sandwiches when I've gone that route. Instead, I went for the Roast Pork Italian ($15.00) with broccoli rabe, sharp provolone, and additional roasted sweet peppers ($0 fee for all of those). The sandwich came out hot enough that it lasted the drive home to Henderson. I dug in promptly once I got back, and it was still warm. The bread is soft, the roast pork comes in reasonably thin slices, and the broccoli rabe is a good pairing that retains enough crunchy character. The flavors might actually be slightly too strong, thanks to the sharp provolone (note: a potentially viable option on a cheesesteak) and the roasted sweet peppers which I found surprisingly spicy. I wouldn't mind having another roast pork sandwich in particular from Tony Luke's. It's the first time I've had this particular regional sandwich, and some intense flavors aside, it was good.

I was underwhelmed by my stop at Tony Luke's. I had to go to the Rio box office. I looked at the area where the wonderful buffet had been and looked at the replacement--so sad and disappointing. On my way to leave for a play nearby, I stopped for dinner at Luke's. There are three ways to order--if there's someone at the register, you can order with them; above the register, a cardboard sign with a QR code hangs. You can scan the QR and place your order that way; finally, you can order at one of two ordering panels on the casino side of the food hall. There was a person at the register working with something on the floor. I asked him if I could order from him and he said he'd take my order. He would not win any congeniality award. After ordering, I went to pay using Apple Pay. Like many such terminals, you can't pay until you do the tip thing. I selected the amount I wanted, paid, and then was given a paper printout of my order to sign. Use CARE here. The sheet they give you get has a blank for tip and then the total line. If you're not careful, you may tip twice. As one of those poeple who is getting very tired of the tipping explosion, I'm getting to the point that I have no trouble pressing the no tip option. Just be aware of this. The sheet they give you has a spot you sign to make the purchase "official" I guess. Most Apple Pays don't require signing. I had not seen the sign Pick Up Here because I was in a different spot. I took a seat and waited for my name to be called. When it wasn't, I got up and went to the other side and saw the pick up sign. I watched as the cook made a couple of cheesestaeks. He puts a frozen rectangular shaped slab of pressed beef about 1/4 inch thick on the grill. After the grill has heated enough, he breaks down the slab with a spatula. For me, he put a long slice of provolone on the grill, put the meat on top, and then placed it in the bun. Another employee, a very pleasant woman, wrapped the sandwich and hande dit to me. The thing about this is it's the same thing I do to make cheesesteaks at home only instead of a rectangle, my frozen beef comes in an oval. Two of these in a pan, some heat, and I can break it apart and then stir it around to cook the beef. I use more provolone but that's my preference. For $17.69 with tip and tax, I can make four sandwiches at home not counting the cost of the rolls and it would be as good or better than Tony's. I sat and ate my sandwich. I had opted for some fried onions. There were a few, but they didn't add to the sandwich. This is a definitely a one and done place. It's good Tony stayed in South Philly or he may have ended up in the Roundhouse when it was used.

This food court has a lot going on in a small space, and needs more seating. I do love the ability to order from the counter or a kiosk, as that moves things along. Now, just speaking on the food itself, this place is a pass. There's no reason to come here based on the name or reputation. I've had better no-name cheesesteaks for the same price or better. The portion was respectable, and I finished my entire sandwich so it definitely wasn't bad. I just won't come out of my way next time.

Cheesesteak about halfway gone... notice that cheese whiz slick that got scooped off the wrapper ... that's their original Philly.
    Grant S.

OK folks, I've been resisting this visit for awhile, because I knew the cheesesteaks would be as close to the original as you could get, but the location in a casino would mean just a bit of a price hike beyond the basic "on-the-street" price. And I was right on both counts. But, if you order strategically, and bring your own water bottle, you can have the gooey, good-bread, real-steak, well-cooked experience you may have been craving. This place does not disappoint, and the 9 inches of goodness that shows up in your wrapper is exactly what you thought it should be. I've been to the alleys of Philly for the original, and Tony Luke's rendition is at least that good. No skimping, no punches pulled, no cheese whiz spared. The service was straight up counter (without the extra alleyway smog) and the ambience was food-court-clean ... which is a good trade-off for the absence of original grunge factor. As of this writing the basic steak on a hoagie is $14. And drinks are the standard big ticket experience that the Strip has become infamous for these days ... but the dispensing is at your control on the 100's of flavors machine from the folks at Coke ... so there's that. Anyway, this is not exactly the full hidden-gem, off-strip value it could be, but it is a true cheesesteak experience you're not going to find anywhere else in town. AND it's just one stop on the 202 west of Caesar's on Flamingo. So it's quite accessible, even for the casually bus riding tourist population. So... get yourself down here, and enjoy the slightly cheaper table games while your at it.

    Italian Roast Pork

This place is a machine with pre measured portions cooked to order so every sandwich is just perfect. I came after both WNBA playoff games trying the cheesesteak first and then the roast pork. Both were authentic and a bargain meal at under $20 with tax and tip. Different employees both nights were all super nice.

One of the things that we really appreciate is the dill pickle spear that we get with each of our sandwich orders. Having that pickle on the side really makes the order feel complete. It's like having a burger and fries or chips and a sandwich. At the deli, you expect the pickle with your sandwich. This was not the case the last time that we ordered food from here. We stopped in on Mother's Day. We ordered our sandwiches. Everything seemed fine. Our sandwich containers got pushed along the line and when they were ready, they called our name. Simple right? No. Not exactly. The cashiers were quick to take our money and we were just as quick to bring our sandwich back, upset and disgruntled. We felt gypped. None of us got pickles. We didn't know why. The hubby was upset! He went to the cashier to complain. He told them that he would like to be refunded his tip, simply for the fact that they never mentioned the fact that there were no pickles available today. He was not asking for a refund on his sandwich. He just thought that they could've pasted a bit better discretion and making sure that all of the customers there knew that there were no available for Sandwiches today. I can't even tell you how upset he was. Like I said, I know it seems like a silly thing, but it's like missing the fries to your burger or the chips to your sandwich. The whole entire sandwich felt incomplete!!! So like I said, a refund for the tip was requested. Instead, the cashier ended up refunding the entire cost of one of the sandwiches. We tried to compromise with the deli, asking that maybe we buy a side of potato salad, but instead because of the problem with the pickle being unavailable, maybe they only charge half of the regular price of that sign. We're trying to upsell ourselves. Not Conley. The cashier didn't say anything. She just had a crunching. She didn't make eye contact. She never said sorry. She just went ahead to refund the cost of no one and that wasn't. Now, granted that was still a good amount, but the whole ordeal really so simple to dissolve. We were really disappointed in the lack of enthusiasm in the cashier trust us. We were also even more upset with the fact that the deli wouldn't let people know ahead of their ordering that there were no pickles. The hubby suggested that maybe they put out a sign saying that there were no pickles available today. One of the employees said, "oh no, we can't do that!!" I have a feeling they were worrying about the pickle situation and announcing it because then people would turn away from the restaurant. But, I understand that. For some people, a pickle is serious business. I know it seems crazy but at the same time. I get it. There's plenty of ample seating in and outside of the deli. It's always fun to sit there with people watch. Sometimes the line at the deli is exceedingly long, but don't be discouraged. Unless of course they're out of pickles, the line moves pretty quickly. Hopefully the next time that we pay this deli a visit, the pickle situation will have been resolved.

Store Complaint - Flamingo & Decatur Location…read more I very rarely visit this location at Flamingo and Decatur because historically it has had issues, but I stopped by this evening after visiting a friend to pick up two sandwiches before heading home. I arrived at approximately 10 minutes before closing, and there were no signs posted anywhere in the store stating that the last orders are taken 30 minutes before closing or that the grill would already be shut down. The store hours posted indicate they are open until 8:00 PM. When I requested two cheesesteaks with fried onions, sweet peppers, and mushrooms, the female employee immediately began yelling that the last orders go in at 7:30 PM and that she had already cleaned the grill. Her behavior was extremely unprofessional--she was slamming items around, muttering under her breath, rolling her eyes, and eventually went to sit down while visibly upset about the request. What made the situation more concerning is that she was not in the proper uniform and was wearing a large nose ring, which raises potential health code concerns regarding food service standards. Thankfully, another employee--a heavyset gentleman with a beard--stepped in and handled the situation professionally. He politely asked what I would like and made the sandwiches without any issue. He was respectful, calm, and clearly understood how to treat customers properly. He deserves recognition for his professionalism. For context, I work in the EMS medical field, and I was still in uniform at the time. In our profession we cannot simply refuse service to someone because we are close to the end of our shift. If the business is open and customers arrive within posted hours, they should be treated respectfully. This type of behavior from an employee reflects poorly on the entire store and the brand. I have already informed the area manager and shared the video of the interaction because this is not the level of professionalism customers should experience. I will also be following up with corporate and store management. My goal is not to attack the business itself--because the food was good and the other employee handled things properly--but situations like this drive customers away and damage the reputation of the store. I hope management addresses this issue so the location can improve and provide the level of service customers expect.
