First time here and we happened to come on a Friday night when it was karaoke night. It was such a great time. We were so entertained! I ordered the Hang Ten which is 2 pizza slices and a small chef salad. I should have skipped the salad because it just wasn't worth it to me. The pizza slices were HUGE. 2 slices = 4 normal slices. I got one Hawaiian and 1 sausage and pepperoni. I honestly enjoyed the Hawaiian more than the other. The sausage and pepperoni was greasier but still really enjoyable the pizza crust is thin and tastes so fresh! We parked in the back parking lot behind the entrance. It wasn't too busy when we arrived but got the last parking spot. The only negative I have to say is they were sold out of several items so pizza choices were limited. This is such a fun place! We were staying nearby on vacation and stumbled across Tony's. The service was wonderful, what a vibe! There is so much seating, great music playing, even life bands at times. They also have a large parking lot and are located one block from the beach so you can easily take your food and enjoy it on the beach. My wife and I were craving some pizza. Based on prior very good experiences we were excited to stop in at Tony's place for a few slices. The pizza slices were just awful. Old, dried out and crusty. It wasn't very busy so who knows how long these pizza slices were sitting on the shelf. Lesson learned: don't buy a slice. Next time (if there is one) we will get a freshly baked pizza. read more

We went to the window to order a single slice of pizza and the guy at the counter told us that the slices of pizza were $30 each.!! I thought he made a mistake and I asked again you said the pizza is $30 a slice and he said yes and I said you have to be joking right and he said no we're busy and there's a lot of people ordering pizza right now so we're charging $30 a slice! Tony's was such a vibe. We came on a Sunday night over Memorial Day weekend and happened to catch Reggae Night, which made the whole experience even better. I actually spotted the place while driving by and decided to stop on a whim. It felt like a true locals' hangout. People of all ages were out dancing, and it was clear a lot of them knew each other. It was so much fun just sitting back, soaking in the atmosphere, and getting swept up in the music. Honestly, it ended up being one of the highlights of my weekend. You order food and drinks at the counter, and luckily there wasn't much of a line when we arrived. It was definitely busy, though, so the wait for our pizza was about 45 minutes. We didn't mind at all because the live music and people-watching made the time fly. We ordered the Tony's Special, which was super generous in size and toppings. The pizza was delicious. One of the best parts was this older gentleman walking around checking in on everyone and clearing tables. He was incredibly kind. When we got up to dance, he passed by later and said, "I wondered where you went," which made us smile. He remembered us and could tell we were new, which made the experience feel even more personal. Tony's has been a Ventura landmark for a long time. I remember when they were the best pizza in Ventura, hands down. That's why the autographed photos of actors and famous people adorned the little hut's walls -- it was THE place to get the BEST pizza. Tony's did one thing - pizza - and it was done right. If you wanted a drink, there was a cooler with cans of Shasta soda. Simple, but perfect. A few years back the owner died and a family member inherited it. The first changes I noticed was the quality of the pizza started to decline. It seemed cost-cutting measures were taking place. But we kept getting the pizza. It seems the new owner is less interested in making the perfect pizza and more interested in having an after-surf party spot. The menu has exploded -- now it even has dessert, wings, and ham and cheese sliders, not to mention a full range of soft and hard drinks. No more focus on the pizza -- and the pizza shows it. My wife recently wanted Tony's pizza. I tried to dissuade her, but that's what we ordered for delivery. Over 1 1/2 hours later we received a mediocre stone-cold pizza. The crust was too thick, the flavor lackluster, and did I mention it was stone-cold? Like it was a pizza they made yesterday to sell by the slice. Never again. If you want to party after a surf session or enjoy karaoke, feel free to stop by Tony's. But go for the party, not the pizza -- there is far better pizza right in downtown Ventura, if that's what you want. read more

Back story about this spot. My hubby is a truck driver and passes this spot maybe 3 or 4 times a month. I always like to see his routes and what he see's so we decided to take a day trip to Ventura County to see the sites. He's always been curious about this place so we stopped for dinner. What a cute little gem sitting on the cornier or Thomson Blvd about a 5 minute walk from the beach. When you walk up to the restaurant you are totally taken back to a simpler time. It gives you surf shop vibes. There's only outdoor dining, but that's okay because they have plenty of heat lamps as well as fire pits. They have a stage for band performances which are probably on Friday and Saturday. They also have cute games to play while your wait. Service was quick because the menu is simple. Pizza and salad. They also have wine as well as bottled soft drinks as well as fountain drinks. The Pizza was decent. I enjoyed the toppings more than anything. I think it could've been cooked longer. It was a little greasy but still decent. Crust was thin and crunchy. I will say this warmed up in the over on broil the next day it was perfect. I'm glad my Mister got his curiosity satisfied and we had a great day and night. read more

I was craving pizza for dinner so we called ahead to order a medium pizza with half pepperoni and half hawaiian. We also ordered some buffalo wings. They told us it would take 30 minutes. We arrived 30 minutes later and the pizza was ready but they said they needed 5 minutes to pour the sauce on the wings. 5 minutes later, the wings were still not ready. I think we ended up waiting an extra 10 minutes just for the wings. Not sure what was the point of us calling ahead to place an order and them telling us 30 minutes if we still had to wait when we arrived. The food was delicious though! I really liked the Hawaiian pizza but my husband liked the pepperoni more. Made a special trip (live in Port Hueneme) on Sunday to Tony's due to all of the great things said about it in various reviews. That being said, I was sooo disappointed in the outcome. My wife and I (along with 2 of our dogs (Austin & Light) were going to enjoy a slice and a salad at about 1pm but when it was my turn to order, I was informed that the ONLY thing they had was Pepperoni & Jalapeno (that wasn't even on the list of slices on the menu) and it would at least be 20 minutes until another option would be available (no idea what that even would be)! This was at 1PM and the place only opened at 1100AM! How can a pizza place that has slices for sale, opens at 11AM and has NOTHING on the actual menu available 2 hours later?? Additionally, the cashier/order taker was cold and unfriendly. Needless to say this will be the last time I ever try to go to Tony's. I couldn't even pick up a slice without it completely falling apart because it was so weighed down with oil. On top of that, the wait was much longer than expected, and when we finally got the food, it was overwhelmingly salty. Between the grease and the salt, it just wasn't enjoyable. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this was not a good experience and definitely not worth the wait. To add insult to injury, they charge $1 per tiny parmesan packet like it's liquid gold. Who does that? My friends and i produced an event at the VC Fairgrounds last weekend and must have ordered around 80+ XL pizzas over 7 days or so between us all. My favorite is pepperoni with fresh jalapenos. I honestly only stopped here because I smelled the pizza as I walked by, and it smelled amazing. I got a single slice combo on my way back to the Amtrak train and was very happy with my purchase. It was around 5 pm on a Friday and I was first in line to the little walk up window. Very simple setup. Employees were all really chill and nice. And my slice was fresh and hot, ready in like 10-15 min. They also have a tiny bathroom which was very welcome. All the seating is outdoors, which I loved. And the patio is so cute. They have those adirondack chairs and a bunch of lawn games. Definitely good for families and groups. Nice vibes but I wouldn't really call it beachfront since it's after the fairgrounds, an overpass, and train tracks. But it's within walking distance of both the beach and downtown Ventura. I ate my slice on the train and was very happy! Def will be back on my next jaunt to Ventura! read more

Fun spot with live music near C St in Ventura! Lots of outdoor seating with heat lamps/fire pits for those cool evening and a luau aesthetic. Pizza was affordable for a slice ($5.50) and I thought it was alright, not too greasy - but my friend said hers was too salty and the crust was 'like a communion wafer'. They have beers, ciders, and wine; and we got to try these locally made in Ojai, all-natural hard ciders - the cucumber ginger was our favorite with the rose coming in second. This is going to start off rough. But give it a chance. I'm glad I did. Took the train to Ventura from Union Station. Tony's is an easy walk from the train stop. It's an outdoor experience with live music and great ambiance. As I sat down, I was organizing my bag. The business section of the train provides snacks and alcohol. I was on the phone and looking at what I still had in my goodie sack. The host who helps monitor the area approached me informing me that I cannot open the alcohol (wine) that I had. Being on the phone I simply said, "okay, thank you" and I continued to clean out my bags. He stood at the table and then proceeded to pick up my wine bottles! I pulled them back from him and asked him not to touch my things. He continued telling me that I needed to put them away. I hung up my phone and told him to give me a moment. He had JUST told me about the (very common) policy and my intention was not to drink them but only organizing. He walked away but continued to "watch me" from his post. When I put the mini bottles back into my bag, he said, "thank you" as he was still watching me. I've never felt more judged, belittled, or treated like a child than at that moment. It was a horrible first impression and I hadn't even tried the pizza yet! I was so bothered I spoke to the manager. I told her that I understand the policy and saw that they sell alcohol--including wine. I know enough about dining out to know you don't "BYOB" or expect to pay a corkage fee--which they have and is $10. Anyways, manager was great. Returned to my table, pizza came, and was pretty good. It's super greasy, but that's what kinda made it yummy! Minutes later, the same gentleman came to my table with an apology and complimentary wine. I appreciated the gesture and respect the fact that he apologized. It's never an easy thing to do. In the end, it turned out to be a great find. The live music was fabulous. The band was, The Cousins. Which was ironic because the host's name tag also said, "Cousin...". As the evening came the patio lights turned on along with the many patio heaters. Despite the rough start to the experience, I turned out to be a great spot. I'm glad I found it and will definitely return--without my train wine! There's tons of free parking on the side gravel lot. Stopped by during the x games and it was packed. We were forewarned that a pizza would take 45 minutes which was no biggie. Our pretzel breadsticks came out in about 15 minutes. There was a mishap with the kitchen losing our pizza ticket but the staff was very apologetic and offered free beers while we waited for an expedited pizza. Customer service was a 2. The cashier rolled their eyes when another customer made a comment about how long they had to wait for 2-cheese slices of pizza. Service: we waited 30 minutes for our pizza. We waited an additional 45 minutes for our wings which never came. When we went to ask for our order they told me that they made a mistake and the order was never placed. My option, was to wait another 40 minutes (while they had other wing orders in the oven) or get a refund. I chose the refund. I went to talk to "Cousin David" He said there was nothing he could do about it. Sent me to talk to owner. At this point we were frustrated and hungry. We left. There is some parking available. The place is more like a pizza stand with only outdoor seating, which is comfortable. Having no indoor seating is the only reason the rating is a 4. Has a great local feel. I guess they have bands performing regularly. It's a 5 min walk to/from the beach. Walk up window ordering from a very friendly staff. The pizza has a thin, crispy bottom crust that holds it shape instead of sagging. The outer crust is crispy but airy, so it's not too dense. Good amount of toppings with some grease from the pepperoni, but that's expected. REALLY tasty! I can see what it's a local favorite. read more
