I'm not sure why this was the case, as the experience was good. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the food was pretty good. I had the pad thai with tofu, and after being advised that a four-out-of-five spice level might be to much for me, I ordered the spice at a three. She was right, and it was just spicy enough for my liking. My wife had the thai fried rice with shrimp, and she enjoyed it. There were lots of shrimp, and they were not the tiny little ones. Both portions were appropriate for lunch, and we shared a bubble tea too. Overall not a bad experience. I'm giving them a four because the place could have been a little cleaner. Overall, a good local place in squirrel hill, but if you're trying to find the best pad see ew, I'd like elsewhere. First time trying this place, got takeout of pad see ew with beef at a spice level of 3/5. I've tried a lotta of pad see ew in this city and thought this was solidly middle of the road. It was a decent portion and in line with the price for other pad see ews around the city. I wish it had more vegetables (personal preference, I like a lot of vegetables) and it was a tad greasy, but I'm unsure if that's from the dish itself or the beef. There was an adequate amount of protein. There was enough sauce, and it was a standard flavor for this dish (not a bad thing). I checked this place out on a Thursday night. My husband and I were pretty hungry and we wanted leftovers, so we ordered an app and a few entrees to share. Everything was so good! For an appetizer, we got the salad rolls. There was avocado, mango, carrots, cucumber and lettuce with a spicy mayo type dipping sauce. They were nice and light and fresh. For entrees, we shared the Tom Yum noodle bowl (with shrimp), spicy fried rice (with pork), and the pumpkin curry (with chicken). Everything was awesome! My favorite out of the 3 was probably the pumpkin curry, then the Tom Yum noodle bowl, but seriously everything was worth getting. Each dish came out from the kitchen as it was finished. It was hard not to eat everything right away so we could save room for the dishes still to come out! With each dish, they ask you how spicy you want it on a scale of 1 to 5. My husband likes spicy food and I like it a little less than he does. The 3 was very spicy, so be careful if you're adverse to spiciness. The 2 was spicy too, but perfect for me. As far as service goes, they were definitely understaffed, but our server did an excellent job managing all of the pick up orders, phone calls and several tables she was working by herself. This place is the bomb.com! Easily one of the best Thai places in pittsburgh. There's so much flavor packed with each bite and pretty affordable! I got a curry that had rambutan and pineapple, which was such a unique pairing (but I don't think they have on the menu anymore). Always an amazing meal when I come here, and this is definitely my go-to Thai restaurant in they Pittsburgh area! I tried the Kao Soi this time, which is a chicken thigh in vegetables cooked in a coconut cream based curry with crispy noodles. This was one of the tastiest Thai dishes that I have ever had! The chicken was fall of the bone tender, and the curry was so delicious! This dish was not too adventurous for the average person, so if you're looking to switch it up from the regular Pad Thai order, give this a try! We also decided to get the dumplings, because my girlfriend is obsessed with dumplings. We have tried dumplings in multiple restaurants around the Pittsburgh area, and to be honest these dumplings ranked in the middle. We both definitely prefer soup dumplings to these, but these definitely weren't bad, and were some of the better regular dumplings that we have had in the Pittsburgh area. We also tried the Tom Yum Fried Rice, which was one of my new favorites as well! Don't even bother ordering the regular fried rice when this is available! The flavor is spectacular, and it comes with a good amount of chicken. Lastly, we also ordered the crispy rolls (I think that is what they are called on the menu) which are served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce that paired nicely. I came here on Saturday night with a friend and I was definitely impressed. We came around 6pm and were seated immediately. I ordered the beef pad see ew, and I honestly have some pretty high expectations when it comes to this dish. I love when the noodles are saucy because it makes it just taste so much better. Took took 98 MET these expectations. Since moving to Pittsburgh, I've tried maybe 4 other thai restaurants, and I have to admit that this is probably my favorite in the city. I was very happy with what I ordered, but do be aware that even the mild was a bit spicy. I was a little surprised but not upset by it. The noodles were served in a bowl, so presentation-wise, maybe not the best, but that didn't bother me. Overall, great noodles and definitely affordable. read more

Cute small restaurant in Squirrel Hill! Located along the restaurant strip of Murray Ave, you'll be glad you stopped here for food. Despite there being minimal tables, we were able to get a table for 2 right away and I didn't see anyone else have to wait too long to be seated throughout the night. Their menu is pretty big and they have all your favorite Thai Street Food options, as well as some new ones I hadn't heard of before. I ordered the Paw Kra Tium with chicken. It came with steamed broccoli, cilantro, tomato, and a few slices of fresh cucumber. All of this was in a bowl with a garlic sauce/broth and a plate of rice on the side for you to add to the dish and soak up the sauce. It was delicious! I really enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients, the slight spicy kick of the red pepper flakes (I ordered a 2 on the heat scale), the tenderness of the chicken, and the garlic broth flavor that blended together everything instead of overpowering. The price for the meal was pretty good too for the portion size, only $11 and you left nice and full but not too stuffed. If you pay with cash, they even give a 5% discount. I'll definitely be coming again to check out some of the other items on the menu. read more

It's a nice place to try local Thai food. Many dishes on the menu are very common in Thailand but hard to find at other Thai restaurants in Pittsburgh. I love seeing a Thai restaurant serving those local dishes for people here to try. But the tastes could be much better. That's why I'm giving 3 stars. It's still newly open. I hope they will improve. Curries are all well cooked. Good portions. Great with the roti. Apps- my faves are the shrimp fritters and tofu. Dumplings are just eh. Wouldn't recommend. Cost is reasonable - everything is overpriced on Grubhub so hard to say but I imagine for the non lazy folks, pickup costs are more reasonable. Rating system: 5.0- obsessed. Wouldn't change a thing. Wish I lived here 4.0 - a must go place. And while the food is wonderful the portion sizes are definitely much smaller than they used to be. I would actually prefer if you raised the prices and made the portion size normal. Oh. My. God. I ordered the green curry today for lunch. I got it to go and they give you quite a large portion for a reasonable price. At lunch time it comes with a very simple but tasty salad. This was my first time eating here and im still pretty new to thai food in general, but in my limited knowledge it was ridiculously delicious. I got it fairly spicy and it was just wonderful. It had large chunks of melon which soaked up the broth and explodes in your mouth. I've never had anything like that. I got it with beef and it was just mind shatteringly incredible. This might be my new addiction. The staff were really friendly and inviting and the restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. I cant wait to go back and try something else. read more

Came here for dinner. During Covid, they are doing mainly takeout but have a couple tables available for dine in. They have a nice variety of fall menu items. We all ordered different bubble teas, but it did take quite a while to arrive. They came after our appetizers. Unfortunately, the boba were quite chewy and you could tell they were not fresh, so was a bit hard to enjoy. For appetizers, we started off with the classic steamed dumplings and the fried chive and onion dumplings. The chive dumplings were incredibly flavorful, highly recommend. Our inaugural trip to Took Took 98 started with a delicious winter melon soup. I apologize for not having a picture--after that first bite, it was gone. I ordered a Thai iced coffee with milk, and it was a nice midday refresher. They also offer iced teas and bubble teas in addition to your standard soft drink options. I ordered the ba mee kaow Kong noodle soup, and I was delighted by the flavors. The shrimp wontons tasted fresh with large chunks of shrimp. I'm not normally a soup as a meal person, but I was happy with it. My dining companion ordered the sour curry and found it tasty--definitely sour! We also tried some roti, and they were unique. They resembled a scallion pancake without the scallions. Our friend, who ordered the roti with his meal, was a bit disappointed by the fact that they didn't come out until we were almost done. Love it when new mom & pop restaurants come to Squirrel Hill! I came in for the Mango Sticky Rice because it was BLUE! Super cute twist to such a classic Thai dessert. And definitely exceeds expectations. The rice (plated in cute little shapes) was still warm and fresh, the coconut sauce was just the right amount of creamy and sweet and the mango was perfectly chilled and perfectly ripe! And they even remembered to top it off with authentic crunchy yellow beans! price point at $7.98 was a little high to me for a dessert but worth every penny. The rice dish was very tasty. Reminded me of being in Thailand. Papaya salad at spice level 3 was actually pretty hot. Next time I might do a 1 or 2. The portion looks small, but after eating it, I think it was a good size and both were very delicious. Overall i really enjoyed it. I would come back again. Ordered takeout online from Took Took as a treat. Our order was prepared in a timely manner and was ready for pickup when we showed up. The food itself was decent but nothing to write home about; I think it's food that needs to be tried fresh, especially the ba mee noodle soup. The soup and the noodles/wontons were packaged separately to keep the noodles from getting soggy, which was nice. The soup was flavorful and spicy. The kee mao was only ok, but we forgot to add spice to it because you needed to scroll down on the ordering portal to find spice level and we didn't do that. My favorite dish was the gu chai, which are little scallion-filled dumplings. The dumpling skins are chewy and gelatinous rather than bready, so they could be an acquired taste. The filling is delicious, though, and I think they're definitely worth trying. I hope to come back when dine-in is available to try more menu items! read more
