Been wanting to try this place since they opened. Finally stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday. Not busy at all. We were the only two people in the restaurant during our entire visit. They have two ordering kiosks when you walk in, but since it wasn't busy, the girl behind the counter took our order. She wasn't super friendly, but helpful while ordering. We decided on the Chicken Bop and Beef Noodle Bop. We ended up ordering the large size since the regular one looked pretty small. You definitely get a lot of food for the $16 price tag, but I'm not sure about the quality, preparation, and freshness. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and it was lukewarm. The chicken was kinda mushy, which was a big texture issue for me. The teriyaki sauce was yummy. The fried rice was just okay. Liked the cabbage in the bowl. The mac salad was good. The edamame was served cold, which I didn't like. I love edamame, but have never been served it cold. My husband's beef was good. He ordered the kimchi and calamari salad. He said his was good, but not good enough for a return visit. The have everything set up well inside so you can fend for yourself. You order at the counter, go pick up your food at the counter, and clean off your table and place everything at the garbage station, where they also have lids available for your bowls if you're taking some home. After we grabbed our food, there wasn't one person in the dining room asking if everything was good or if we needed anything. After writing all this, it makes me wonder why they asked for a tip at the counter when ordering. A tip for what?! I did everything myself. Hmmmm, makes me more apprehensive on leaving tips until after my meal going forward. Tipping is so outrageous nowadays... Overall a decent experience. The food was just okay. WOW! That is the only word I could start with, and I will explain why. I recently learned that Top Bop originally started in Alaska, where it is already quite popular. It finally opened its first Washington state location a few months ago. This new location is in Vancouver, Washington. It is a bit of a drive from the Seattle area but much closer if you are coming from Portland. Still, no matter where you're coming from, it's absolutely worth the trip! Top Bop is located in the Hazel Dell area of Vancouver, in a modern and well-kept building with plenty of free parking. The interior is very clean and welcoming, with interesting artwork on the walls. There are two self-service kiosks where you can browse the full menu with pictures and place your order without needing to talk to a staff member. It might feel unfamiliar at first, but once you try it, you will see how simple and convenient it is. I personally enjoy using the kiosk because it clearly shows all the customization options and makes the ordering process smooth and easy. Okay, let's talk about the food. As you can see from the photos I took, Top Bop uses a build-your-own-bowl format. It is similar to how Chipotle works. You start by picking your protein. Then you choose two free toppings. Next, you select your desired spice level for the sauce. Finally, you can add optional extras to your bowl. As a poke lover, I chose poke for my protein. They offer both salmon and tuna. I could not decide which one to go with, so the friendly staff allowed me to do half salmon and half tuna. Perfect! My friend almost chose the Beef Bop (because, let's be honest, you can't go wrong with Korean bulgogi), but ended up getting the Shrimp Katsu Bop instead. Let's save the Beef Bop for next time. Once we placed our orders, it took about 7 minutes for the food to be ready. Everything is made fresh to order and fully customizable. The portion size was very generous. One bowl could easily be enough for both lunch and dinner. Now back to the WOW. The taste was outstanding. I got the poke bowl with two free toppings for only fourteen dollars. That is incredibly rare in today's market. The bowl was packed with fresh salmon and tuna. I could really taste the quality and quantity of the fish. I chose calamari salad and seaweed salad for my toppings, and they paired perfectly with the poke. The signature sauce at Top Bop is another highlight. I selected Level 3, as recommended, and it elevated the entire bowl to the next level. I also tried a couple of bites of the Shrimp Katsu. It was crispy and flavorful. From the menu variety, to the prices, to the taste, Top Bop truly delivers on every level. It is my number one pick for a restaurant this year so far. I genuinely hope they open a location in Seattle or Bellevue soon so I can visit more often. Mmm Bop...Top Bop... Yes, I really did start this review with a Hanson reference. It seemed at least a little appropriate for Hanguk (Korean) cuisine, right? I regret nothing! All jokes aside, this place is awesome! I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I walked in, but thankfully, the guy at the counter explained the whole schtick, which basically boils down to the same four steps shown on the menu board above: 1) Pick your protein (+ rice, either white or fried w/ veggies) 2) Pick your toppings (up to 2, by default) 3) Pick your spice level 4) Pick your add-ons (optional), plus any beverages, etc Being the heat-seeker that I am, I ordered the Fire Spicy Chicken, Level 5, with kimchi and pickled onions; for the rest of the family, I ordered them each a Beef Bop with the same toppings, but only Level 1, since most of them can't keep up with me (except my wife...I'm so proud of her! *sniff*). Within five minutes(!), all four bowls were bagged up and ready to go! Unbagging and distributing them back home, none of us were prepared for how large these bowls are! None of us could finish the whole thing; instead, half of each was packed away in the fridge, saved for a future lunch, or midnight snack, but none of us were disappointed in our respective dishes - they were well received all around the table, even among the pickiest of the kids. In short, nobody threw in the towel because they weren't enjoying it; there was simply too much good stuff to scarf down, in a single go! As for the restaurant itself, the interior feels like if you put a Jimmy John's in the middle of a (clean!) inter-city alleyway: intentional "graffiti" tag artwork adorns the walls, while K-Pop stars sing and dance in the background. The theme doesn't match the cuisine, but I didn't come here for the décor. Most of the time, I would take my order to go, anyway. Additionally, the parking lot sucks, big time: both entry and exit are connected only to Hwy 99, and even though it looks like there should be another on NE 88th, there is not. Be prepared to turn around if you try to get out that way! Having been to both Korea and Japan, a good beef bowl place is not that difficult to find. In America, it's a *very* different story. I've been looking for a place like Top Bop for a long time, and I'm so very glad I finally found one. And even if you have a beef with beef, there are plenty of other protein options (chicken, pork, shrimp, seafood, etc) to top your bop! read more

Returning for more Top Bop...this time for dinner with 2 hungry boys. We were promptly greeted by friendly staff who offered to explain the ordering process. But my boys were shy and chose to order using the kiosk which was very user friendly.Once you order, you'll get a text msg with your order # and approximate time for the order to be ready. The bowls were assembled very well. Packed with a generous amount of protein, no skimping. I ordered my salmon poke without any added sauce, it tasted very fresh. Everyone was happy with their choices but we couldn't finish it. So we had leftovers for late night snacking or next day. I was super excited that something different with a unique concept opened in this area. The space definitely I went with the bulgogi level 3, with pickled onions & edamame for my side. Boyfriend had spicy pork level 4 with mac salad & kimchi. We also got the horchata & strawberry slushies. First off, the portions are pretty big, it ended up being 2 meals for us. Both meats were really good & we picked the perfect spice level for our liking. Although I think I could possibly go up another level. All the sides were good as well, edamame wasn't mushy which was nice. Slushies were very refreshing, the strawberry one reminded me of childhood. When I went inside I like the atmosphere as it felt fun, clean, and inviting. The service was friendly and quick. I enjoyed the beef bulgogi bowl I ordered. I couldn't finish the whole bowl so it was nice I was able to take it home. My friend and I enjoyed our time there while listening to some fun Kpop but without it being too loud. We can hear eachother while enjoying our time and with food together. I really wish this place was in a better location so you can see it better because it's definitely worth a try and I was not disappointed. I think it's too new for people to know that it's there. I got a spicy chicken bowl (flavored with the teriyaki and chilli paste sauce. Has a nice spicy kick to it but not overwhelming) with fried rice and the toppings I chose were the corn and the pickled onion. I also added the dumplings. Tried Top Bop's new location, having tried their Anchorage Alaska locations I was excited to have one near my home. The interior design at this location was amazing~ the fresh graffiti was a nice touch. The self service and pick up cabinets make this place a good quick lunch option. We had ordered two bowls. In one i got their fried rice base with seafood bop, with fish balls, and calamari salad. The seafood base was really tasty and the fish balls are perfect. I found the fried rice base a bit overpowering and took away from the toppings. In my other bowl I ordered a plain white rice base with chicken bop, mac salad, corn and an add on of dumplings. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the mac salad was great. I just want a side dish of that. On both dishes I got a level 3 sauce.... thats where my only complaint comes in. We ordered two beef bop bowls. My husband's 2 sides were the Mac salad and pickled red onions. My 2 sides were sweet corn and kimchi. Both topped with teriyaki + sweet mayo. We also ordered a side of their dumplings with teriyaki sauce. Kimchi had a small kick and tasted fresh + crunchy. Corn was fresh and gave my bowl a good sweetness. I personally liked my pairing better than his but would get a side of Mac salad to share next time. My husband said he enjoyed his Mac salad and would order again but maybe switch the pickled red onions because it's a little boring. The dumplings were nothing special but still delicious. Husband liked the dumplings more than me. I personally thought they were nothing special BUT still would order again because we like dumplings. Overall, we both recommend trying Top Bop. I went back and forth between 3 or 4 stars. We ordered top dumplings which were good, nothing crazy special but nothing bad to say. I got the chicken bop with corn and Mac salad. Mac salad is ok- again nothing great to say and nothing terrible. Corn was yummy and sauces were yummy. Portion size is fair and they were surprisingly light on the rice (in a good way) and generous with the protein. The chicken tastes like canned chicken to me. Too salty and the size of chicken pieces and texture made it seemed like it had been canned then covered in sauce. But I can't complain too badly because my son absolutely loved it. I also got two shrimp tempura and they were wonderful! My husband got the seafood bop and that's definitely the way to go. His sides were Mac salad and crab salad and the crab salad was also delicious. We got a side of potato salad which was maybe a 4oz cup and was $3. Tasted like store bought potato salad- won't get that again. Just went here for the first time and ordered a beef noodle bowl and I must say I'm not too impressed with what I got. If you are looking for a bowl loaded with rice and noodles, great this is for you but if you expect a full serving of protein, go to K-Town next door. My bowl had maybe 5 itty bitty shreds of beef in it and I had to dig through the noodles for several minutes to find them. I wish I was joking, there wasn't even half an ounce of beef in this bowl. The broccoli was also stone cold, like out of a super cold near freezing fridge and dropped into this bowl of hot food. My mother ordered a similar bowl with just noodle and no rice and her bowl was also severely lacking in protein. One bowl is a mistake, two in the same order is procedure. The staff were at least pleasant and the sauce on the noodles was tasty but I definitely wouldn't go back. $15 for a bowl of starch and almost 0 protein (meat), nah, pass. 2 stars only cause the staff was nice and the sauce was pretty good. read more

The food was all relatively good, the chicken I got was a good amount of spice and the sauce was good. Breading was a little crunchy, but not a deal breaker. There was a mix up between the two orders where one had white rice and one had fried rice. Didn't mess up my experience though, because everybody was still happy. The Mac salad was good and so was the kimchi. The seaweed salad was GREAT. Overall I'd say you get what you pay for considering it comes with a lot, however the downside of that is that you get full quickly. I was unable to finish my bowl, so be mindful of that because you may want to share. The person was with got the pickled red onions and those tasted pretty good too. Overall the food is good. I like the kiosk ordering system. It was easy to use and leads you through the process. I wish the tv on the inside of the restaurant was where you could actually see it. Step 3 spice level and Step 4 is add ons at an additional price. I ordered the Beef Bop with broccoli and crab meat salad (fake) as my 2 toppings. I really enjoyed the bowl. The one thing I would have changed is warm up the broccoli a bit. The crab salad is good. Linda ordered the Sweet Chili Chicken Bop which was lightly breaded chicken. She had broccoli and pickled red onions as her toppings. She also ordered 2 shrimp tempora as an add on. She also really enjoyed her bowl with the same suggestion about the broccoli.
