Ugly Dumpling has a fair offering of dumplings, soup dumplings, dim sum and noodles. Their dumplings are hand-folded. They also offer ramen. Their branding and packaging is impressive as the interior design. The containers use a clean, modern, oversized design. There was excellent packaging for everything, including the Noodles with Sesame Sauce bowl -- pictured -- and the chopstick and soup spoon packaging. This sort of thing genuinely excites me, ie a muted ivory napkin as pictured, halved. It's plastic carryout utensil packaging on its own level. The chicken wonton soup was very good and I recommend it. The wontons were so tender and flavorful. There was a tiny radish as garnish which was a nice detail. I also reserved some of the broth and mixed the plain noodles from the Sesame Noodle dish in. I added the baby scallions, as well. Yum. The Pork Soup Dumplings were the first thing I dove into and the flavors were good. This is Chinese comfort food. The flavor of the aforementioned chicken soup wontons was, however, more delicious. The filling in the cream cheese Rangoon was ok in flavor, but everything else we ate was better. These cream cheese rangoons had tiny bits of imitation crab meat in them, and I'm not a fan of that flavor. I think we had an unusual plum sauce to dip them in, as well. The Noodles with Sesame Sauce, peanuts and scallions were tasty but the sauce, itself, was impressive. These didn't get slathered in the more typical thick, peanut sauce which I love. Instead the sauce is very thin and watery, yet buoyant and very flavorful. I would get this sesame sauce for those noodles on the side for this dish unless you love heat. I enjoy heat but needed to use the sesame sauce very sparingly because it was truly fire. That said, the flavor was strong, complex and delicious. I would like to try the other sesame sauce, which you can choose with the noodles, as well. I'm now thinking we received the spicy sesame noodle sauce instead of the non-spicey sesame noodle sauce, btw. Next are the fabulous, oversized soy sauce packets. This soy sauce was tastier than the standard soy sauce packets, also included. A bit sweeter and thicker. Menu items I'd next like to try are the Ugly Dumpling Soup Dumplings Sampler, the Scallion Pancakes, the Chicken Kimchi Dumplings, the Pork and Truffle Soup Dumplings and the String Beans with garlic. Ok after reading the menu again, I found even more things I'd like to next try. Our meal was delivered so it's possible that I mixed-up some of the sauces, ie using the plum-tasting sauce for the Crab Rangoon. I'm used to the cheap, sweet bright red sauce for these, and I'm somehow thinking they maybe wouldn't serve this here. The Brown Sugar Boba is not at all what it sounds like. It's better. Get it! It had an aftertaste of mulled wine or cherries. Especially the syrupy boba: so unusually complex and rich for anything I've had in a while. #localtastebyjenny
A hole in the wall place in this strip mall. Parking lot seems always full but it is worth the trip. They do a lot of carry out business but the dumplings are so much better if dining in and fresh out of the kitchen. We were informed that our food would come out as it was ready. This worked fine for us. Absolutely no complaints. Cucumber salad and edamame were excellent sides to enjoy while we waited for longer menu items to come out. Forgot to take photo of the Mongolian beef so photo is just of my tasting. Dumplings were amazing. Daughter pulled up video of how to eat soup dumplings while we waited. The spoons were smaller than the dumplings but I found I could suck the soup from the top of the dumpling before biting into it which helped avoid losing the broth (careful, they are served HOT temperature-wise) Loved the truffle dumplings. I have also had the sampler which I recommend if you are new to the place (1 each of 6 different soup dumplings). The green beans and kimchi chicken dumplings were seasoned nicely and were enjoyed by all as well. Service was super. I have already been back twice, once for carrot and again for dine-in. Fine in preferred especially if getting dumplings. Only downside was parking which the restaurant can't change. Oh, be aware that their online presence mentions being in the bustling Bowie Town center... it is not but definitely should consider it as their next location! (Please????!!!!)
We really enjoyed our time at Ugly Dumpling. Took my 8 year old with me because she wanted bubble tea. It's a cute spot for a quick bite to eat with friends and family or even a day date. Fatou was our server. She was super polite, explained how everything worked and answered all of our questions. For drinks, I had the jasmine tea with honey and lemon. My daughter had the brown sugar bubble tea, which she rated it a 20/10! We ordered the BBQ wings, garlic string beans (Ugly style), and the vegetable stir fry. Everything was good! The string beans had a tad bit of spice since we had them Ugly style but that was an additional option, but they definitely weren't spicy. The wings were cooked to perfection, giving them the right amount of crisp and sauce ratio which everyone can't do. The stir fry vegetables were nice and flavorful with plenty left to take home. I'll be back to try a different wing flavor and even give the dumplings a try. Check them out and ask for Fatou, she was amazing!
The store was very clean. The staff were friendly and service was swift. I went on a solo dinner run and ordered the Edamame (and made it 'ugly'), Spicy Green Beef and Pepper and passion fruit green tea. The food was pretty decent. My friend ordered the Shrimp and Broccoli and raved about her dish. I would revisit to enjoy the true dim sum. The menu is quite enticing.
Not bad from a modern asian restaurant in the bowie burbs. Food was generally good, not too sweet or salty. Reason for the dowvote is that they had a big party they were catering to and that led us to be ignored for a while and receive cold food. I understand this can happen but doesn't mean Its excusable.
Stopped in this evening to check out the menu and ended up ordering food to go and a couple drinks. The ladies working tonight were welcoming and I really just appreciate their hospitality and energy...loved their energy! Almost forgot I was in PG County for a second there LOL!! Anyhoo whatever the cashier recommended we went with. The restaurant was clean and the honey lemonade was delicious! Not too sweet! We also had the brown sugar boba and a new coffee speciality drink. Would definitely order all of them again. Looking forward to trying other things offered on their menu. They have a menu of lunch specials that I may have to venture back over and try. Tonight the cashier recommended a fav dish of hers own, which was a Mongolian Beef dish, however it wasn't on the menu. Will update my review after my husband lets me know how his food was. The service and food were excellent. Our party of six was seated within minutes. We ordered several appetizers, dumplings, entrees, and what I believed was the star of the show, tenderism braised beef noodle soup. We were starving, so no pictures were taken lol. Also, since the food came out not in a specific order, we started digging in to make sure it wouldn't get cold. In all, we would be back soon to try other dishes and experience more of what Ugly Dumpling has to offer.
A first visit for my wife and I and definitely not the last! Their green tea with lychee was very refreshing! We were warmly greeted and our server Fatou was wonderful. She knew the menu well and was very helpful with suggestions and pairings. The place is much larger than I expected and we arrived soon after opening. It wasn't too long before other diners were coming in to sit. It was quiet and the music wasn't very loud. Overall, a pleasant lunchtime experience and we'll be back.
I took my daughter here after one of her performances and she loved it. The decor was pretty, the service was fast, and the food was good. I ordered kimchi dumplings as a starter and they were delicious. My daughter ordered pork soup dumplings for her entree and I ordered orange chicken. I really enjoyed it. The meal was filling without being too heavy. I also thought the price point was really good. My daughter has been asking to go again so we will definitely revisit. They offer takeout, which is convenient and they also have bubble tea.
Order in or take out! Here are the positives about this place: The service is great from entry to exit. The menu has variety and is priced right. Overall the food is good. But not smack your mama good. It's more of a"that was nice". There are no complaints but it's not a place for me that I would rush back to because I have to have it. If you haven't been I would say visit, you'll experience the great service that is often missing in this particular area. After that everything is just okay. The atmosphere is nothing special, and the booths are kind of uncomfortable. That's, that.
I was excited to see this offering come to the area. I decided to get delivery for my first experience. It was packaged very nicely. I got the eggrolls and the chicken and broccoli They were both Meh. Especially the chicken and broccoli. It wasn't savory. It wasn't sweet. It actually either had no flavor or an unusual flavor. My taste buds couldn't decide. I was hungry so I finished it, but I can't say that I enjoyed it. I can't imagine that any soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, Mirin, etc were used in the preparation. For me it was enough for two servings but I'll need to doctor up the rest to eat it and not waste my money. I'll give this place another try with a different order and maybe it will be better.
The food was just OK. All of the dumplings tasted the same. The short rib soup was watery and too sweet. But the main reason I give this place such a low rating is that they trick you into tipping more than you intended by showing you the amount of the bill before tax and allowing you to add the tip to that, but then when you get the bill, it shows that they based the tipped on the total amount with tax, which caused you to pay a few dollars more with these check, that's just unethical.
Clean location. Friendly staff. Lots of parking and seating. Boba tea was the best I've had! Food was so delicious. I highly recommend.

This is the most nastiest place I've had in awhile. The shrimp dumplings were flavorless. The shrimp fried rice with spicy seasoning, tasted weird. The shrimp was flavorless. I couldn't finish it. It also gave me diarrhea and I had to hurry home to use the bathroom. My friend got the regular fried rice and I tasted it and it was also flavorless. Also there were flies everywhere that I had to keep swatting. read more
Well...............Not the dumpling I expected I did enjoy the food from The Ugly Dumpling. As the name indicates I went here to explore the menu and to try dumplings. I did not partake in the fine in experience though the customers seemed very pleased with the atmosphere and service rendered. I ordered the pork dumplings and spicy green pepper w/beef over white rice. Both were quite tasty. Now after doing some research the soup dumpling (xiaolongbao) is what I was expecting. No worries though because the other dumplings were also good. The pepper bowl was well balanced, tender, flavorful, filling, and seasoned. Next time I'm going to opt for the Ugly rice bowl upgrade. I was informed it has extra spices and seasoning while would enhance this dish even further. The food prep time wasn't too long or too short allowing for the appreciation of made to order. Overall for a carry out experience 4 of 5. If you're in the area please give them a try and partake in the fine in experience. read more

The place is brand new and is very clean! Our waitress was a young woman and really helpful!!!!! The food came out fast and hot. My sons got ramen (miso and beef tenderloin) and they both gave rave reviews!!!! I had pork buns and pork soup noodles....very tasty and well seasoned!!!!! Hai Hai was awesome great service and very attentive he is an asset to the company. I was thoroughly surprised by this restaurant. Located in the middle of an area with a lot of office buildings and fast food restaurants I was skeptical. They did a great job creating food similar to Din Tai Fung! The shrimp fried rice was on point and absolutely perfect. The garlic string beans were perfect as well and the added spice made it delicious. The shrimp dumplings threw me off, as I thought it would be "jiao zhi" but it turned out to be "har gow" but doubtful that this difference would be noticed by most folks anyways. The spicy shrimp wonton had too much soy sauce today, more chili oil next time (I did pass the feedback to Hai Hai) but the wonton itself was good. This restaurant is an authentic chinese restaurant highly recommend! read more

I visited today for lunch and it was quite amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect as it's usually difficult to find good pork soup dumplings let alone the flavor combinations here. Upon walking in I was quickly greeted and seated. The interior is nice, open, modern and inviting. It's also clean and orderly with modern music playing very nice atmosphere. My server, Marquis, arrived quickly and took my order. Since it was my first visit, he pointed out the vinegar, soy and chili sauces. I noticed that the manager also did the same to a couple at a nearby table. She also adjusted the table menu that covers the recommended way to eat the dumplings (see included pic) Now for the food! I ordered: Pork belly bao buns - flavorful - Tender/juicy meat - Tasty sauce and a hint of mayo - Greens (lettuce) - Bun was moist and also flavorful Dumpling sampler - served with shaved ginger to go with the vinegar (very nice) - pork - yes! - Chicken - Pork and crab - Pork and truffle. - good. You can taste the truffle! - Shrimp and spinach - Szechuan pork. (Spicy) yes! Cucumber salad - fresh - Tasty - Nice, light sauce/dressing Spicy pork and shrimp wontons - soft - Flavorful - Can taste both chicken and shrimp - Added a hint of vinegar to the chili oil and soy to brighten them up a bit - Very tasty! Saw this place in the area so wanted to check it out with the family. It was ok. I liked the vegan dumplings, sesame noodles, & fried rice but everything was just ok. They were out of the vegan wontons so I couldn't try that. We liked the shrimp but it came out super late so we were kind of already to leave. Plus we also ordered pork chop but it came out late and super cold, which they did they take this off our bill which was nice. But all in all i don't think we'd go again. read more

This place opened not to long ago while I was waiting in the area I seen the sign and decided we must have lunch here. It's so cute inside the lighting and neon signs and every body working was really friendly , the honey lemonade was so good we added popping boba and jelly , we had a cucumber salad for the app it was light n refreshing, for the mains we picked shrimp fried rice , chicken soup dumpster and spicy noodles , my 6y/o told the waiter every thing was a 10 outta 10 so it's kid approved ! My initial visit was November 18th and we had the pleasure of being served by Markeese. They had only been open for about 11 days or so but we were thoroughly impressed. I enjoyed everything I ordered (rangoons, soup dumpling sampler, and Mongolian beef). Since my initial visit, the next time I went I also had the shredded beef with shishito peppers (spicy and savory) and fried chicken dumplings. They're still working out the kinks but it's a solid spot. Very cozy and inviting. They also have lunch specials Monday-Friday 11am-4pm. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the ugly dumpling. The inside has seating, it's a nice spot if you want to grab a bite to eat with a friend. The staff was friendly, and they have take out as well. There's plenty of options on the menu ranging from soup dumplings, to shrimp dumplings, to fried rice, noodles, as well as other dishes to choose from. Since I don't eat pork, I couldn't try the soup dumplings because they all had pork in them, but I did try the fried chicken dumplings as well as the crystal shrimp dumplings. I really enjoyed the shrimp dumplings. The chicken dumpling was also tasty. The shrimp egg fried rice surprised me, I thought it was going to be bland, but it was actually packed with flavor. I'll be visiting again, to try a few other options on the menu. read more

I write this review after my second visit to this location. I am a passionate foodie that truly appreciates good food, good service, and good ambiance, especially when it can be duplicated. This ugly dumpling location has got a repeat customer in me. I loved me experience here and I definitely recommend that you come give it a try. Parking here can be difficult because its so busy in the shopping complex, but not impossible. The ambiance here is upbeat, fun, and trendy. The music was tasteful and at a good volume. My first visit was a dinner visit. We were greeted and seated immediately but the restaurant was about to close and there werent many people, so I thought it was a fluke. But no my second visit during lunch on a Saturday, it was packed, but i was greeted and seated quickly. The hostess was really polite and accommodating. First visit, our server was phenomenal. I mean so friendly and fun, attentive and prompt. She made suggestions on food and explained everything to us. And let me tell you, her menu suggestions we spot on delicious. Whats more awesome is that she remembered me and said hello when i visited the second time. My server for my second visit was equally as kind, friendly and attentive. She was so polite and sweet I genuinely felt welcome. The management is equally friendly, welcoming and wonderful. I really enjoyed conversing with the manager. She also remembered me and came over to say hi. Now lets get to the food. First visit we ordered: Ugly dumpling sampler, steamed bbq pork buns, cream cheese rangoon, thai tea and taro iced sweet cream with boba, shrimp stir fried noodles, fried rice, and golden shrimp. Everything came out on good time and good temperature. And when i say everything was delicious I mean everything was delicious! I cant stress that enough. I am picky about my dumplings and bao so thats saying a lot. The pork buns took me back to a memory of my childhood. The bun was warm soft and perfect. It didnt stick to the parchment paper. The filling was so flavorful and just right juicy. I wish there was a little more filling, but not a deal breaker. The sampler had just enough soup, the flavors were unique, the filling just right and juicy. The size is fair compared to other restaurants. My favorite was the pork and truffle dumplings. The noodles... were my favorite. They make them in house. They were insanely addictive. They noodle consistency was perfect. The pull and the chewyness were just right. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. But the star of the show was the golden shrimp. This is a fried dish with a coconut cream on top. The dish had been sitting there a while so i thought it would be soggy by the time we are it. I was wrong. The crunch was still there. The size of the shrimp were impressive and let me tell you the cream... amazing. We couldnt get enough. Over all the food on our first visit was phenomenal. For the second visit i had to confirm the deliciousness. I ordered the shrimp stir fry noodles, sampler, and bbq pork buns. And they were just as good as I remembered them. I am so impressed. So happy to finally have some food diversity in the area! Glad that I can get some good soup dumplings in Bowie. Started out with the string beans in garlic sauce. The portion size was huge and would be perfect for 2-3 people. Next I tried the noodles with spicy sauce and throughly enjoyed them. Could be a little more spicy. Finally the star of the show was the soup dumpling sampler. My favorites were the szechuan pork, pork and crab and the pork, shrimp and spinach dumpling. Very flavorful! first off let me say the hostess, was amazing from her warm smile to her recommendation. even though the place has Togo option the dine in was very cozy, clean and inviting. our server Marquise is very kind, knowledgeable and very friendly. food: dumpling sampler (love the spicy schezuan and truffle the most), soy garlic wings, cucumber salad, stir fry shrimp noodles, and ugly shrimp fried rice. 10/10 everything came out so hot and fresh drinks: honey lemonade + passion fruit boba passion fruit green tea + strawberry boba 10/10 so good. highly recommend and so glad this was a new addition to our area! read more

Here for food. Service was good, place seemed clean. Food? I'm yea. Completely over priced. $46.28 for lunch with tip. Don't get ugly menu items. There is free hot chili oil on every table. Save $. Ramen got cold since it came out first. Pork & shrimp wontons, never experienced such tiny wontons in my entire life. Pork belly buns, not much flavor. Fried pork belly with no seasoning at all. Made it chewy on a super soft bao bun? Why don't you braise it like how kitty is supposed to be prepared. Ugly ramen, you get 1 tiny slice of fishcake, 3 no flavor chewy pork belly, half a supposed to be flavored egg. Never in my life experience this, the tiny yolk tasted like complete salt. If I knew that maybe sir the hulk around on the ramen to give the fish better flavor, not make me nearly yak cause I ate a table spoon of salt. $2 for tea, $.50 cent tops, ps... should be free! read more

I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch and was immediately greeted by hostesses. The takeout area was to the left but I decided to dine in and was quickly seated in a booth. Incredible! Attentive staff, clean and modern seating area, the food came quickly, and the food tasted incredible. I had the steamed dumpling sampler, spicy pork & shrimp wontons, boba tea, and shrimp fried rice. This is the best Chinese food I have had in the DMV. The shrimp fried rice was perfect. Not greasy, light, and full of flavor. The steamed dumplings tasted good, but they do not hold a candle to the spicy shrimp and pork wontons. They are my new go-to order here. One last thing. I love that you can control the sugar in the boba tea. I got 30% sugar and it was perfect. To the owner: Thank you for opening in Woodmoore! We have really need a place like this, so thank you!
