This place use to b best doubt and service in town but lately owner has been very rude . And has been over charging way to much . I caught here a couple of times and have brought it to here attention and both times she calmed that she forgot to clear the register . I have been to this place many, many times over the past couple years. Good donuts and made fresh. Unfortunately i had a bad experience that left a bad taste in my mouth (pardon the pun). Went in this morning and got a dozen donuts. The owner rung me up - $9.95 (the stated price) for a dozen. Then I added, a twist and an apple fritter. $14.45. Then I thought of my waistline and asked her to take off the apple fritter. $12.95. So i asked, "is the twist $3.00?" She said, "no but there is sales tax". She then realized I had caught her in a lie and tried to be really busy (there wasn't anyone else in the store but I am sure she did have to make donuts). She said, "it is the time of the year to pay Uncle Sam" and said, "mornings are really busy, I have to run" A couple things wrong - first of all, there wasn't sales tax when I just ordered a dozen donuts, and second of all, there isn't sales tax on to go food. Just disappointing that she felt like she can cheat customers, especially loyal customers. Hopefully the IRS doesn't catch up with her. i hope she reads this and just thinks about whether a dollar here and there is worth it. read more

Was in town for a week and kept seeing this place next to the grocery store, so my strategy with yelp is i only check yelp to make sure the place isnt horrible but i saw people were raving about this spot. So i went in got a couple of donuts. They were on point. They were exactly what i was expecting from your typical asian owned California donut shop. Donut was good and coffee was hot. I was however yelled out by the owner and insulted by the son for pointing out that they overcharged me for my coffee and the donut pricing wasn't clear. The owner yelled at me for over 5 minutes even as I was saying numerous times, that it was okay, and never mind and in front of my two children.. In my opinion they were highly defensive and aggressive towards me. I apologized for Making the son feel offended when I pointed out the price difference and he thanked me for the apology but did not offer one in return. As a person with over 20 years in service I was shocked at this kind of service. I guess they don't need the business and therefor only want customers who don't question them? Honest mistakes are made by everyone but to treat a customer this way when they point it out is appalling. I wouldn't go back here. In response to the owners response to me I have lowered my stars to one. To be clear, contrary to what he wrote, they charged me incorrectly and aggressively yelled at me when I sought clarification on pricing. Never in my life have I had a filled bar and I'm sad after this vacation that I never will again. The lady behind the counter was pleasant & cheerful to me and the regular who came in after me. Visited around noon on a Friday and there was a decent selection but nothing that seemed outstanding, I was especially disappointed with the lack of icing on the old fashioneds and buttermilk bars so I skipped them. I ordered 4 donuts: cake with white frosting and rainbow sprinkles, a chocolate twist, an apple fritter and a chocolate bar. We ate the fritter immediately--good, a little small, and a little light on the icing but the crunchy edges were nice. Later we split the twist and bar. After picking up the bar I wondered if it was filled--omg--it was filled! Finally a custard filled donut where the custard has flavor! Some may call the custard too sweet but others eat frosting from the can and always take the piece of cake with the most flowers. A little pricey--$7 for 4 but 2 were specialty. read more

This place is a hidden gem!!!! Their doughnuts are super fresh and amazingly delicious. The lady who works there is always nice and knows a lot of her customers by name. Oooooohhhhh and I'm just going to go and say it the bagels they make in house are the best in Santa Cruz County. We use to go to Bagel cafe all the time but the bagels at Top Doughnut make bagel cafes bagels taste like plain bread. Top Doughnut also has great Santa Cruz Coffee Roasting Company Coffee selections. Every doughnut I have tried there has been amazing and they have unique types of doughnuts there like this tasty bear claw like doughnut that has chocolate glaze and peanuts..... I went there this morning today with my daughter and ordered 2 dozen donuts from the lady at the counter. I asked for 2 maple donuts and got 2 maple, and 5 chocolate bars- 7 maple and chocolate bar donuts I ordered 5 old fashioned donuts, and got 2 glazed donuts along with the other cake donuts I actually ordered. I ended up paying almost $22 for two dozen donuts. I kept asking for certain donuts, and I was told they were too hot, and to pick something else. I feel like the lady filled my box with what she wanted to get rid of and I paid a premium for it. I called and complained and explained who I was and what happened and the lady that answered the phone started to argue with me. I live in the Aptos area, and it is a bit of a drive to go to Watsonville for donuts - pay $22, and come home and find out your order is wrong. I never got to look in the box and I should have checked the box and not let her tape it shut until I checked it. I have never had anything like this happen when I have ordered donuts anywhere else, so it never occurred to me to check and make sure she wasn't loading it up with the more expensive donuts. So we are in Watsonville at a local motel because the motels in Santa Cruz are outrageous on the weekends and find this doughnut shop. It was a bitter sweet experience because the group of 8 loved the service and food but we were disappointed that doughnuts can taste so good and no one in our area can make them this delicious.
