Absolutely 100% recommend Top Jolt Cycle for all your cycling needs - mountain bikes, beach cruisers, ebikes, more! Todd was an excellent guide assisting my two tweens and I in selecting bikes for our first afternoon in Ocean Beach. Top Jolt is highly recommended in the area and became a bit busy around when we stopped in, but Todd was attentive and helpful. We booked a 4-hour slot and the prices were fair. Location was perfect. The bikes were high quality and ready to roll!

It was the MOST TERRIBLE bike packing ever!!! These guys charged me $83.5 and told me to come back in 2-3 hours ...and what I've seen ..they guys just put the bike into the box without ANY protection.. and on top of that look jow the box looks outside ..‍‍‍ You guys need to change your mind about customer service and how to be in business!

Rented two scooters & two e-bikes to hop around the city and visit La Jolla. It was perfect, cruised along the shore and then bolted up into the hills along all the amazing bike paths. Saw so much more than traveling by Lyft and great bike paths going literally everywhere. The daily rental price was very reasonable. Pickup and drop off could have been better, long ride & lyft from the hotel. Delivery would have made it 5 stars.

We rented a couple eBikes for a day of sightseeing in San Diego. The owner was super nice, price for 24 hours was fair, and the bikes were in great shape and easy to use. He supplied us with chargers and helmets. A fun way to scoot around and much better than taking Lyft rides everywhere. Highly recommend Top Jolt Cycles for eBike rental!

Rented two electric bikes from this shop. Todd was very friendly and knowledgable. Helped us with selection of the bikes to fit our needs (and hight) . We rented for two days, so Tod provided us with the charge cords for our bikes, so we can store and charge them overnight at our hotel. Helmets were provided as well. We put quote a few miles on these bikes - they were very comfortable and charge lasted all day both days. Would definitely use this shop again next time we are in the area.

My person and I rented bikes from Todd at Top Jolt for a long weekend. He was able to set us up with bikes and equiptment that was perfect for our plans, riding a couple 40 mile loops around the San Diego area. We were able to pick up and drop off the bikes in Ocean Beach, it was really convenient. Be sure to contact him ahead of time so he can have your bikes ready to go.

Todd came to my rescue when I needed a quick turn around on a tuneup for my cruiser in time for plans to bike the bay with visitors in town for Easter. He was kind enough to pick my bike up and got me a great deal on new tires. Very friendly and affordable prices. He also has several bikes available for purchase that seems like a steal - i would highly recommend him. read more

We were looking for a place where we could rent a motor bike or a moped, after searching on Yelp we found this place,it's on Newport but this place is located inside a shop. Todd was amazing he gave us instructions to how to use the bike but also adjusted our seats for us, and gave us the direction where to go for a bike ride, we took the river trail which was really nice. We would recommend this place to everyone. They have almost new motor bikes and mopeds, we enjoyed our 4 hour rental very much. He provided us with helmet and lock, so when we took the break to go to the beach we locked our bikes and enjoyed water. It's an easy ride with motor bikes to the sunset cliffs as well, thank you Todd, we'll be seeing you soon. read more

Todd, is a cool cat. He helped me out and went out of his way to make sure the old Trek was running in tip-top shape. He regreased the bearings even though I didn't ask and offered great a price on some new parts. One of these days we will definitely be converting this bike to newer hardware. read more

A wonderful place with a great flexible proprietor. Todd was enthusiastic about our plans to rent a couple of ebikes and go from OB out to Point Loma. After a brief conversation to get the details set up, he arranged for us to pick up our bikes the next morning. Everything was well-maintained and the comfortable. We got directions for our trip and off we went. We couldn't have been happier with our experience with Todd and his assistant Tanner. It was inexpensive, no-hassle and fun. read more

Top notch cycle service. My electric bike needed repairs and other shops were hard to get a hold of or didn't want to deal with a bike they hadn't sold. Todd, the owner of Top Jolt, answered right away. Offered to pick up the bike and repaired it in no time. Explained what the problem was and gave me a dew pointers as well. Great guy. Todd was equal parts reasonable as cordial. We had a bike break, but at no cost, we swapped bikes and had a wonderful ride. Because of the time lost, Todd was great at allowing us to keep the bike for an extra hour. Great value, awesome service, and a friendly locally owned bike shop. read more

Great guy! We did rent road bikes, despite a small variety of bike in his shops, the two road bikes were great. Make sure to mention your height if you reserve by phone. My husband and I rented 2 bikes here. Overall the rental experience was efficient, he had lots of bikes, but the quality of the bikes weren't great. The owner was very friendly but not super helpful - when asked about his hybrid bikes, he pointed to a group of bikes and said to "choose any there" - many of which weren't hybrid bikes. There was a bike with a smaller frame that was on a rack, and he said that he couldn't reach it and that the seat was probably too short, but made no effort to help. My husband had to get the bike off the rack and adjust everything for me. It wasn't a big deal though and we were able to go through the rental smoothly. We were also able to extend our rental time easily. While biking though, the chains fell off both of our bikes throughout the course of our ride. It was easy enough to fix, but if we are paying for bike rentals we would hope this wouldn't happen. We weren't doing a strenuous ride so it was fine but wouldn't recommend these bikes for more than flatlands. read more

We were only in OB for a day but we wanted something fun to do, and see the sights. We asked a local at lazy hummingbird for a rental bike shop and they suggested Top Jolt (sign out front says OB Bikes. Next to mama's mug.) Todd gave us the run down on the deals for the day and actually gave a nice set up with an electric bike. Cruised from OB to PB and then to Sunset Cliffs and back without a hitch. Dropped off the bike around 730. Never had to charge the bike up once. Such a fun experience! 10/10 would recommend if you want to get around the entire San Diego area. read more

My boyfriend and I were staying in OB for the week and I needed a bike to rent. I opted for the beach cruiser from Wednesday to Friday to travel to beaches. My beach cruiser brought me from Ocean Beach to Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Liberty Station and even La Jolla Cove. They also offer helmets and bike locks free of charge. Staff are very helpful and would totally recommend this place for your bike rental read more

Todd is a stand up guy. The bike shop next door introduced me to him like 10mins before closing, but he still took the time to answer all my questions and help me pick the right bike for a great price (including accessories which he installed). He also designs some of the bike frames as well which is really cool. I've riden about 60mi so far through trails, rain, and downtown with no problems. read more

PERFECT for a weekend trip to OB. Some friends and I decided to rent bikes after an evening of hoofing it around the area. We would have never found this place if it weren't for a recommendation from a shop owner a couple doors down. It's tucked away in the back of an art store, so it's easy to miss. When we found it, Todd was very laid back, friendly and helpful. He got us on bikes that were appropriate for each of us, and adjusted things to fit our heights. He filled us in on cool places in the area, and where NOT to ride to avoid getting a flat. After we got our bikes, everything was way more relaxing and easy to get around. read more

Well, when I stroll along any walk path, whether at Balboa Park or here in Ocean Beach's walk path, lots of people are on an e-bike and some have nearly run over me or my pup. So, as the saying goes, if you can't beat them, join them?! I walked in this shop just to look and see and get informed. My first question was what's the priciest e-bike here? Answer: the WEAPON with all the upgrades add ons will put a dent in your wallet $9,999 and you save $$$ if you get the basic for $6k. The WEAPON E-Bike, particularly known in the market as the SUPERHUMAN WEAPON, is a high-performance electric mountain bike designed for serious trail enthusiasts. Weighing approximately 55 lbs, the use of a CARBON FIBER FRAME enhances both strength and agility, allowing for a responsive riding experience. And almost all parts are a challenge to get if the part is out of stock since most suppliers are based in China, who is subject to US tariffs. E-bikes must be used on the street and NOT on walkways/pathways or you can get ticketed by police. Jared was very helpful and informative and I got to look around the shop. The shop was organized and turns out they are authorized dealers of many brands. The shop also sells more affordable $$ e-bikes and are customizable for size and features if upgrades. To conclude, I don't have FOMO and I'm still not convinced I need an e-bike but if I do get one, I would consider this shop because I got great customer service from Jared who was nice and cool. If you're interested in an e-bike this place might have what you're looking for. Recommend

I was in OB this weekend riding around and I got a flat rear tire on my ebike. Called them and…read morethey said they didn't have my tube size. Luckily I had a spare tube, but unluckily I didn't have my 18mm wrench to remove the rear wheel. They said they could do it, and I dropped the bike off. They closed in two hours and said it would be done by 5. Walked by about an hour later (no call), and the bike was in the store and done. Go inside and no one was in the store, but I heard someone in the back. After a few minutes we looked in the back and asked if the bike was done. It was, and it was $20 for the fix. I was happy with that! Started riding out of OB, and by the time we hit Morena area, something felt off. Looked down and the tire looked soft. Within 5 more minutes it was dead flat. Had to call for a ride all the way back home. Today I looked at the tire closely with a flashlight and saw that they never removed the tiny piece of metal in the tire that caused the flat. Took the wheel off and put pressure in the tube, only to find the leak was on the inner (rim side) of the tube. Nothing sharp on the rim, so they must have messed up on the install. Why replace a tube and not inspect the tire? And a bike shop that installs a tube wrong that causes a flat? Gave this place 2 stars just for the fact that I'm only out $20

The male workers we dealt with were nice but the female worker definitely needs to work on her customer service skills. Telling customers rudely that it's not your day to do maintenance because your coworker didn't show up isn't really professional. I would not recommend this rays and would take my business elsewhere.

Such a great experience for our first Whale Watching trip, great even with our 3 year old! Worth…read morethe cost, we were out for a bit over 3 hours. Check in process was easy, just follow the email instructions, all very clear. Bring sunscreen, a hat or sunglasses. You can bring your bags and snacks. There is plenty of space under the benches for your belongings. Lots of options for seating all around the boat, both inside and out. Also 2 restrooms available. As well as a Galley with snacks and souvenirs! I didn't realize, but they also sell photo packages of the wildlife from the trip. So you can focus on documenting your group and the good time, They'll capture the animals! :) This crew was Captain Vanessa, Naturalist Ruth, Deck crew Colleen and Sara, and Galley Oscar. They were all so helpful and accommodating. I cannot tell you how warm and inviting they all were. You could definitely tell they loved their jobs. For me...So, despite Dramamine and sea sickness bands I got really nauseous; and I think my 3 year old did too but couldn't verbalize, because she passed out about 1.5 hours into the trip-so I was just kind of sitting towards the back holding my toddler mid trip. Which is about the time when the whales appeared! (Up to that point we saw different birds, pods of dolphins and sea lions.) So these whales on our trip were on the starboard side when they appeared, but I was on the port side, kinda stuck sitting with my sleeping toddler. At one point Colleen came and asked if she could help me move to see the whales, but that was easier said than done, especially not feeling well. I let her know she was sweet but we were okay. Well as the boat tracked the whales, I guess Colleen and Sara both mentioned to the captain that we were kind of stuck in the back on the Port side and the captain ended up turning the boat towards the whales so I could see them. It was the sweetest thing and I felt so seen as a mama. :) I didn't know how a whale watching trip could go above and beyond, but they did! We did a 12:30pm tour on a Monday and there seemed to be a good crowd, but they were not at full capacity, which meant moving around was an option for those that wanted to. We will be back, this was a great choice!

The positives of the trip were that it left on time, the price was reasonable, and that the boat was clean. However, one significant negative is the crew, both on the boat and on land. The entire crew is white (all of the owners and managers probably have not even realized this fact until this very moment). On the boat, there were three blue-eyed blondes (one male and two female), and a guy with brown hair. One land there were two brown-haired females. Every single person is white. How about hiring a person of color? There were tons of customers who were persons of color (myself being one of them), why can't you hire a minority? Your staff is a reflection of you, your biases, and your business. I would strongly encourage you to to take a company picture, then see if you can find a person of color in the picture (you could think of it as an employee game of "Where's colored Waldo?"). Even though the trip is officially called "Whale Watching", we didn't see any whales on my recent trip. Since that's not entirely in the hands of the operators, I'll give them a pass on this. We did, however, see a lot of dolphins, and many were very active. In order to possibly makeup for the trip having not seen any whales, the tour operators get VERY up close and personal with the dolphins. A bit too close, because some dolphins, including baby dolphins, were forced to swim under the boat (which had two large size propellers blasting). A number of passengers expressed concern about the safety of the dolphins with the boat being so close. Wildlife can get injured by humans getting too close. That's what we all hear about when large ships and container vessels get too close to whales and other marine life. If it got out in the media that some tour operator got too close to the wildlife and injured the wildlife (which, to be clear, did not appear to happen here), the PR crisis would be severe. It would go viral instantly online and the whole world would scream, "Don't get too close to the animals/wildlife." That's what happens at National Parks, and it's bad PR. So, here's a rundown of what could be improved regarding the animals: 1. Hire some people of color. I realize you probably terrified of us, but we're not going to steal your family members, your boat, and/or your money. We're also not going to scare you so much that you end up jumping off your own boat, Skipper! 2. Not seeing whales is not justification for getting too close to dolphins and putting their well-being at risk. Anybody, yes, anybody, with a hint of common sense would know that having infant dolphins swimming so close to 2 fully-horse powered motorized propellers is not safe. Maintain a safe distance. You did a good job by offering to rent out binoculars. Good job on that one Skipper!

I rented an electric bike for one day, totally worth it. Todd was very nice and explained the different routes that I could take to see around.Im staying in Ocean Beach for the weekend and I wanted to make the most out of it. With the electric bike in only in charge I went all the way South to Cabrillo national park and descended to the tide pools. Then back up and rode to downtown San Diego. Biked by the airport, the harbor and through the Gas Lamp quarter and Little Italy. Stopped at the Old Town and came back to OB by the river. Total of 35 miles and I still had charge left! Provided you can peddle a bit this bike will assist you and get you further. I highly recommend renting from Todd and to experience San Diego on a bike - very bike friendly city! read more

We had several days to experience the flavor of San Diego and my wife and I always enjoy bicycling to stay closer to the community. We also thought it would be fun to ride up to the Cabrillo National Monument. I asked at our hotel concierges about bike rental and very unhelpful so I googled bike rental and found Top Jolt Cycle. Called and Todd answered and for this ride he suggested electric bikes. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Bikes were great and we rode 20 miles, got a work out but easily made it up the 700 ft rise without getting worn out or covered with sweat. I am in San Diego/OB for a quick two day vacation - and wanted a bike to tool around and eat my fish tacos (I'm from flyover country). I just wanted a cruiser but Top Jolt can rent you high-end road bike as well. A hidden gem in Ocean Beach for bike repair and tune-ups! I needed an old bike tuned up and made functional in a hurry. Another nearby shop wanted me to wait a month for an appointment. Todd was able to do it within 3 hours! Both inner tubes and liners replaced, a bent allow wheel straightened, everything lubed and cleaned, a kickstand put on. I was in OB for 6 days and wanted to do some cycling. I came across top jolt online and called to make a reservation. The following day I received a text message confirmation. The bike shop is located in the back of a store selling primarily clothes and goods from Tibet, so it easy to miss if you don't see the signs. I rented 2 hybrid bikes and put a lot of miles on them over a few days. Ocean Beach is a great place to ride, and both bikes gave good rides without any mechanical issues. read more

Got a flat on my road bike and came across this rental shop. Todd was very polite and replaced my tire immediately as I watched. He was very careful and made sure whatever punctured my tire was gone. Todd did this really fast and at a very fair price. My brother and I visited San Diego for spring break and spent a whole day touring the city on bikes we rented from Todd. He was very helpful and friendly and had many suggestions for places to go see. I believe we rented the mountain bikes for $35 and got to keep them for a full 24 hours which made returning them really easy! I would recommend this place to anyone. read more
