Sometimes manicurists talk too much and some force you to endure long awkward silences. I've experienced both, and what I can tell you is that Diana is a master of conversation! Eager for some pampering, my friend suggested we try this place out because she knew someone who worked here. Queue Diana! She usually works during the week, but came in especially for us on a Saturday. Talk about service! Sometimes I go into a manicure not knowing exactly what I want yet. That being said, Diana is full of suggestions that are sure to fuel your creativity! She works with you to make sure you get exactly what you want. After my friend and I picked out our colors for our gel manicures, she brought us over to her station and got to work. Diana is a really sincere person. She doesn't just talk about herself, but really takes the time to get to know *you.* She truly made it the most enjoyable manicure I've ever had. She's also very meticulous. My valentine nails come out beautifully! The only thing stopping me from giving the full 5 stars is the fact that the interior of the salon is a little dark and cluttered. I have been to many nail salons, many with bad experiences, which include cutting my skin, trying to sell me more services, and over charging. Though, I went here for the first time a month ago and the owner, Ana, is very pleasant and provides great customer service. My nails didn't do well with the hot gel, so Ana redid my nails with powder instead without recharging me. She didn't get mad or try to put blame on why my nails didn't work well with the hot gel. She was more than willing to redo it and was very accommodating in the process. I have had a few pedicures here since then, are the other nail technicians also do a great job. They use plastic bags to line the tub, use autoclaved supplies, are careful when cutting and cleaning, and paint and make designs nicely. The nail salon is clean and averagely priced. I appreciate the honesty she gives me and trust her opinion completely, she has great taste. For pedicures, I like to go to Tran and Diana (Ana's daughter). They both are super sweet and personable, pay close attention to detail, are great at giving recommendations, and go above and beyond to ensure you feel well taken care of. Massages are great, as well! Take appointments and walk-ins. Always busy (which is a good thing) but never have to wait long. A variety of services offered and polishes to choose from. Not to mention, they seriously play the BEST movies ever. No joke. It plays a huge part in my overall salon experience. I've been searching for a go-to nail salon for many years and was always disappointed with the picks, but this one was by chance. I was skeptical about going in the beginning because I was let down so many times but my experience was AMAZING!! When you walk in, you feel like you're at a spa! As soon as I walked in, the owner greeted me and asked me what I wanted to do, I was 15 minutes early to my appointment but was taken right away. I sat in the pedicure chair and immediately got helped. They put a clear liner in the draining section which immediately impressed me cause I'm a germaphobic. Diana did my toes and Ana at the same time did my gel nails, I loved that I felt important and that I wasn't just "another dollar" in their business. The way Diana asked me to do something (like put my feet back down, extend my leg) was so polite & not just a hard tap on the legs. We chatted about movies and Netflix series which made time go by way faster, not just time to look at social media but I liked the conversation. They play movies as well! I have always enjoyed getting pedicures at Top Nails. I love how everyone is always so welcoming once you set foot in the door! Plus their color options are endless! I swear when I went in last I had the hardest time choosing which kind of gold I wanted. They also have books of designs that you can choose from too! The employees really take their time to make your nails look pretty and they make sure it looks the way you want it. I have seen them do it over and over until the customer was satisfied too! They really produce some great work! And they have a lot of pretty gems/stickers/bows! Like I said, thumbs up for variety. Not to mention they have a TV and it is usually playing a movie, so you have something to entertain you if you are getting your nails done! (Since usually the ones receiving a pedicure can play on their phones or read). And their massage chairs work wonderfully.. AND the massages they give you are wonderful too! I've been here several times and the service is pretty good, prices are reasonable but one day I came in with my friend visiting and for not having an appointment and being it was during Hurricane Lane I was surprised they were open. I had this middle aged woman and I swear she did may nails in under 30 minutes and not only that she nicked my cuticles several times and didn't even seem apologetic about it. I haven't Yelped in a very long time, but I feel the need to share my experience. I generally do not give these types of ratings, but potential customers need to be warned. I am going to have to agree 100% with the Yelper who got cut here. I came in for a gel pedicure because the place I usually go to was booked. Kaimuki has many nail salons, but the ratings for this place was quite high. Came in as a walk-in. Waited for about 20 min, no big deal. The girl who did my pedicure seemed to be new. I pointed out to her that my feet were pretty messed up (as in dry) because I had just been on a trip to a place that was cold and dry. Thus, my feet were callused. The owner recommended the callus treatment for an additional $5 or something. Long story short, I was cut multiple times, one of them being VERY deep, causing me to yelp out in pain. The girl apologized and it appeared she didn't know what to do. She called the owner over and was instructed to put some green liquid in the cut, which burned like hell. They then proceeded to spray some bacitracin on it and cover it with a bandaid. The owner also apologized, but was in no way sincere about it. When the pedicure was finally over, they told me to go home and apply antiseptic on it. They did not offer any sort of discount at all. The owner did not even acknowledge or glance at me as I was getting ready to leave. I paid full price ($55-something?) and left, appalled at the experience. That night, the cut started throbbing. I kept waking up throughout the night due to the pain. Bandaids kept getting soaked through with blood. The next day, I couldn't even use heels to work and I was in so much pain that I was limping. I told my story to a couple of friends and they urged me to go back and ask for a refund. So I called, asked to speak with the owner. She didn't seem to be surprised that it was me. She said something along the lines of she meant to give me a gift certificate for next time, but I left before she could (???). I then go in to the salon and ask again for a refund. I explained that this cut was very serious and impeding on my daily routine. Owner says she can only give me a refund of half the amount I paid since she already had to pay out the lady who did the polish, which barely makes sense. So I settle for a gift card, feeling like a fool for not making a big deal out of this in the first place. Just went to redeem the gift card, deathly afraid of getting cut again. Low and behold, a different person cuts me and down plays it, saying I had an ingrown nail and she "helped" me remove it. To top this all off, while getting the second pedicure, I realized that the gift certificate wasn't even for the same package I initially paid for--it was for the cheapest one. For the business, if you cut a future customer, it would be nice to act as if you are truly sorry about the mishap. Yes, accidents happen, but it is all about how you handle it. I don't advise you just slapping some liquid on a cut without first asking permission--for all you know, the customer could be allergic to it. Same for "helping" with an ingrown nail. Don't just dig it out. You need to communicate with your customers before doing anything invasive. This isn't even about the money. I am sorely disappointed that this business clearly values a quick buck over treating their customers with respect. If you are debating between nail salons, please take your business elsewhere. read more

This is my third time going to Top Nails. The first time I got a pedicure and it was great. I went back to get dip nails and had someone who had never done dip before, and another person I assume was Ana, was walking her through the process. I had made an appointment and told them I was doing dip. The technician did an okay job and they lasted fairly well, but I was a problem for asking for dip. I had made another appointment for a pedicure and a dip manicure. Once again I was met with but only Ana does dip. I felt like an inconvenience. Ana did my nails and missed a few sides of my nails. I pointed it out to her and she said we would look after she filed. She proceeded to file down the side of my nails to match where she had done. Here I am one week later after spending over $100 for the manicure/pedicure and my dip is falling off the sides of my nails. This was not what I expected for the price, and anytime I go for a "beauty treatment" to feel like the problem is junk. The pedicure technicians have always been very kind and courteous. read more

The positives: Prices are okay. They have a big tv and they play good movies. They will do their best to fit you in, even if you didn't make an appointment. The negatives: Miscommunication - I told them I was waiting for a friend. I did not want to start without her, so I sat on the side and told them that I will wait for my friend. They let me in early, about 7 minutes before opening so there really was no rush and there was not a lot of customers. This lady then tells me to just relax and go sit in the pedicure chairs, after I told her I'm waiting for a friend. I sit down in the chair, and they get the water going. She tells me to put my feet in and relax. I do what she says. And then she goes "did you pick a color?" I said no, I'm waiting for a friend. She tells me to remove my feet and tells me to pick a color. I assumed I could just let me feet soak since I constantly told them I don't want to start without my friend. Then I hear all of them communicating with other, with "waiting for a friend", and they are constantly saying that.. even tho I reminded them enough times? Cleanliness - When I sat on the chair, I noticed a cockroach creeping out from the crevices of the chair. Quality - Yes, their prices are okay. But, the quality of their nail polish is not great. I got a fill for my gel acrylic nails, and the next 2 days after, my color started to separate and look opaque. The gel application was also very milky and when she filled in my nails, it was too thick. Flash forward to now, and my nails are already peeling. I came here to get my nails done last minute for a friend's wedding. I asked for acrylic and the lady said it will be fifty dollars as if she was trying to talk me out of it but I said I still want to do it. I asked how long the wait would be and she said they could take me now and to pick my color. She offered me a seat and I watched maybe about 5 different women get started before me. I hate to give this place two stars. I wanted to give it more but i just can't with the lady that did my nails. I appreciate that they tried to accommodate me as a walk in, so I thought that my nails were taking a long time because they were busy but no, that wasn't the reason. I got a mani/pedi. Regular pedi. Gel Mani. It seemed as if she spent 10 minutes each hand trimming cuticles from all corners of my finger (not just around the nail) like she trimmed some of my fingerprint off. Then she spent 8 minutes each hand each round of paint, including base coat. Like the base coat does not need you to clean it up around with acetone. She used so much acetone over cleaning up every single time she did a coat. Uggghhhh. I got a lighter color so you have to be quick when you apply the color and layers. She took forever. I was there for two hours already and not even close to being done. My nails could've used one more coat which she offered but i had to leave i was late for dinner. Thats how long it took. So slow. "Sometimes, it's okay to be a girl.", I repeatedly chanted while I drove, wide eyed and hands held firm on my stirring wheel. I turned left on 12th Avenue off of Waialae Avenue and was relieved that they have a paid lot shared. For a moment there I was distraught, I know getting my nails done didn't take 30 minutes but a couple hours at least with a good quality manicure and pedicure. I couldn't believe it was only a $1 an hour after looking at parking lot signs towards the exits and entrance. Top Nails is burrowed next to Hokkaido Ramen and Angelo Pietro. Before this day, I hadn't had any grooming done for my nails and toes in probably over a year. I was quite content getting a quick slab of nail polish and just applying it "fast kine" on both toes and nails. My puppy's nails would have to be priority over mine. He's a pretty high maintenance pup if you ask me. I walk into the vicinity having forgotten that this is not my first rodeo. I've done this before. I've not a single clue what color I wanted. I've lost contact with the trending nail colors and styles. Top Nails presented me with a plethora of colors from left to right on their wall of wonders. Literally, every single color from all hues beyond the RGB color model. I was lost in translation as to this broad array of colors. April had approached me from the dawn of my experience. $50 for a manicure and pedicure and gelish set you said? I'm sold! About 5 pedicure stations lined the left side of the parlor and maybe 4-6 nail stations on the right. A big screen TV played, He's Just Not That Into You. Where's my popcorn and arare? My toes are going first! A pedicure had been primary and I loved every minute of feeling the massage from this awesome seat to my feet. April is very detailed in getting all the cuticles off of every ends of my toes. Her feet and leg massages were divine! I can never get use to the buffing below my feet. She noticed my giggling after every scrub as I hid my face behind the price list sheet. I love the massages so much that I had neglected to remember that I hadn't chosen a color. I couldn't help but notice a lady next to me wanted to give her recommendations as to which color I should go with. She had recommended I go on the bold direction. Bright purple toes it is! No regrets on this color, however, this braved me to not be monotonous with my toes. I adore natural colors all around. My toes would have to be an exception. While my toes dried on their own accord, onwards with my nails. She remained a perfectionist with getting all my cuticles removed and applied my gels carefully. She was immensely careful that it took a little over two hours to get everything done. I was able to finish the entire movie in one visit from beginning to the end. April securely checked that I was satisfied with my colors and simple style before I had left the parlor. At this time, I was still in search for that "one" manicurist. I was definitely satisfied not only with the quality of the mani and pedi, but I was especially happy with the service. I have a love/hate relationship with this nail place. I hate going there because none of the employees are particularly nice and they don't seem to be concerned with Board of Health standards of cleanliness. But I love them because they can do a mean Boogie Nights for cheap. And I've never gotten any weird finger fungus from them (yet). For those who don't regularly get their nails did, Boogie Nights is the acrylic that comes pre-colored and pre-sparkled so it basically eradicates the use of nail polish and sparkles. It's genius, trust me. Other nail salons will charge you up the ying-yang for Boogie Nights but Top Nail is relatively cheap and they do a good job. Their other nail services are good too but I wouldn't recommend going for a wax- they use the peel-off wax (the one that doesn't use cloth strips) which I'm not a fan of and hurts more, in my opinion. I just hate going there because the employees are rude and it seems like they've gotten too comfortable, like, they know they have an established clientele so they don't care about keeping up their standards anymore. This became apparent to me one day as one of the workers sat in a pedicure chair on her break next to customers getting their toes done and proceeded to watch tv and loudly suck and slurp the life out of a bowl of lychees. It made me want to vomit on my new Boogie Nights nails, but I couldn't because they were too darn boogieful. read more

This was my first time at this salon and I went with friends because this place is their go-to and they said that they're always satisfied after getting their nails done. My new go-to nail place - I love that they are flexible to take you the same day. I call them up and they always have time for me to come in after work. They also take walk ins! But I call, just in case. Ana is the owner of the salon and I usually go to her to have my nails done. The only problem is that she's so popular she can be so busy! But today's experience was so terrible that it compelled me to make a Yelp account just to complain how much I was displeased with my experience. First I called to see if they could fit me in and she said it was no problem, and it would be right away. I come in and they told me to pick my design and they gave me this fricking dude. He puts the acetone on my nails to take off the gel from before and goes away for like 15 minutes. Then he comes back and starts taking the old gel off my nails and then leaves again for about 10 minutes. Then he comes back and starts doing my nails. Long story short he did a terrible a job on my nails, there is already a scuff mark on it and he didn't even do it the way I told him to do it. It should have been less than an hour but it came close to almost 2 damn hours. And because I wasn't anticipating such a long fricking wait, I got damn ticket on top of it because my meter expired.
