"Sometimes, it's okay to be a girl.", I repeatedly chanted while I drove, wide eyed and hands held firm on my stirring wheel. I turned left on 12th Avenue off of Waialae Avenue and was relieved that they have a paid lot shared. For a moment there I was distraught, I know getting my nails done didn't take 30 minutes but a couple hours at least with a good quality manicure and pedicure. I couldn't believe it was only a $1 an hour after looking at parking lot signs towards the exits and entrance. Top Nails is burrowed next to Hokkaido Ramen and Angelo Pietro. Before this day, I hadn't had any grooming done for my nails and toes in probably over a year. I was quite content getting a quick slab of nail polish and just applying it "fast kine" on both toes and nails. My puppy's nails would have to be priority over mine. He's a pretty high maintenance pup if you ask me. I walk into the vicinity having forgotten that this is not my first rodeo. I've done this before. I've not a single clue what color I wanted. I've lost contact with the trending nail colors and styles. Top Nails presented me with a plethora of colors from left to right on their wall of wonders. Literally, every single color from all hues beyond the RGB color model. I was lost in translation as to this broad array of colors. April had approached me from the dawn of my experience. $50 for a manicure and pedicure and gelish set you said? I'm sold! About 5 pedicure stations lined the left side of the parlor and maybe 4-6 nail stations on the right. A big screen TV played, He's Just Not That Into You. Where's my popcorn and arare? My toes are going first! A pedicure had been primary and I loved every minute of feeling the massage from this awesome seat to my feet. April is very detailed in getting all the cuticles off of every ends of my toes. Her feet and leg massages were divine! I can never get use to the buffing below my feet. She noticed my giggling after every scrub as I hid my face behind the price list sheet. I love the massages so much that I had neglected to remember that I hadn't chosen a color. I couldn't help but notice a lady next to me wanted to give her recommendations as to which color I should go with. She had recommended I go on the bold direction. Bright purple toes it is! No regrets on this color, however, this braved me to not be monotonous with my toes. I adore natural colors all around. My toes would have to be an exception. While my toes dried on their own accord, onwards with my nails. She remained a perfectionist with getting all my cuticles removed and applied my gels carefully. She was immensely careful that it took a little over two hours to get everything done. I was able to finish the entire movie in one visit from beginning to the end. April securely checked that I was satisfied with my colors and simple style before I had left the parlor. At this time, I was still in search for that "one" manicurist. I was definitely satisfied not only with the quality of the mani and pedi, but I was especially happy with the service. April did not rush the appointment, even though my appointment went beyond their closing time. After trying a few more places, I will probably return again. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this nail place. I hate going there because none of the employees are particularly nice and they don't seem to be concerned with Board of Health standards of cleanliness. But I love them because they can do a mean Boogie Nights for cheap. And I've never gotten any weird finger fungus from them (yet). For those who don't regularly get their nails did, Boogie Nights is the acrylic that comes pre-colored and pre-sparkled so it basically eradicates the use of nail polish and sparkles. It's genius, trust me. Other nail salons will charge you up the ying-yang for Boogie Nights but Top Nail is relatively cheap and they do a good job. Their other nail services are good too but I wouldn't recommend going for a wax- they use the peel-off wax (the one that doesn't use cloth strips) which I'm not a fan of and hurts more, in my opinion. I just hate going there because the employees are rude and it seems like they've gotten too comfortable, like, they know they have an established clientele so they don't care about keeping up their standards anymore. This became apparent to me one day as one of the workers sat in a pedicure chair on her break next to customers getting their toes done and proceeded to watch tv and loudly suck and slurp the life out of a bowl of lychees. It made me want to vomit on my new Boogie Nights nails, but I couldn't because they were too darn boogieful. read more

This was my first time at this salon and I went with friends because this place is their go-to and they said that they're always satisfied after getting their nails done. We made an appointment a few days prior so service was quick. I showed one of the nail technicians an inspiration picture and she picked out the polishes for me. I got a gradient gel manicure on my natural nails and it was a little different from the picture but still very nice! The total came out to around $40 which I personally feel is a little above average but my overall experience here was worth it! read more

I have been here 3 times. The first two times were blah, and the sparkles they put on my nails started to come off a few days later. But today's experience was so terrible that it compelled me to make a Yelp account just to complain how much I was displeased with my experience. First I called to see if they could fit me in and she said it was no problem, and it would be right away. I come in and they told me to pick my design and they gave me this fricking dude. He puts the acetone on my nails to take off the gel from before and goes away for like 15 minutes. Then he comes back and starts taking the old gel off my nails and then leaves again for about 10 minutes. Then he comes back and starts doing my nails. Long story short he did a terrible a job on my nails, there is already a scuff mark on it and he didn't even do it the way I told him to do it. It should have been less than an hour but it came close to almost 2 damn hours. And because I wasn't anticipating such a long fricking wait, I got damn ticket on top of it because my meter expired. My new go-to nail place - I love that they are flexible to take you the same day. I call them up and they always have time for me to come in after work. They also take walk ins! But I call, just in case. Ana is the owner of the salon and I usually go to her to have my nails done. The only problem is that she's so popular she can be so busy! So sometimes she's stacked with appointments back to back. Sometimes I wait for her to finish her previous appointment, and sometimes she takes off without saying bye to me to start her next waiting appointment. I guess being busy is a good sign that she's good, right? :) I've also been to Sophia for manicure and she's also very good. Diana is very personable and friendly! For pedicure I've had a few different girls I can't remember the name, but everyone I've had has been good. I like Top Nails because they use a pink powder with their gel manicures. I don't know what the stuff is but it makes the gel so much stronger and last way longer than typical gel. Also, can't beat their prices! Awesome all around. read more

A good place to get a mani/pedi at a reasonable price. I usually ask for Anh, she's personable, always makes me feel comfortable, and does a nice job on my nails. The only drawback is that I wish the calf massage would be firmer, but for the price ($35 for mani/pedi) I have no complaints. Occasionally, I have to wait a while even when I have an appointment, but so far it hasn't posed any problems. I usually spring for the extra-wear polish, which stays chip-free on my natural nails for up to five days! They offer a nice selection of colors from known brands such as OPI and China Glaze. Top Nails offers other services, such as waxing, gel nails, and permanent makeup (eyeliner and eyebrows). The waiting area is a bit small and they do get busy on weekends so it's advisable that you book ahead, as they do accept many walk-in clients throughout the day. I have been a customer for about 5+ yrs. When I worked in the area, it was so convenient to get serviced for my nails during my hour lunch break. Now that I work & live far from this business, I do not go as often as I would like due to my busy schedule. The reason I continue to be a loyal customer rather than finding another nail business is because I always leave a satisfied customer. It is worth my trip to visit Top Nails in Kaimuki. The quality of work they provide is great! A normal recommendation would be to return every 2-3 wks for a refill, but I can hold off till about 4-5. If I wait for 6 wks for a refill than at that point its an emergency and I become irritated with myself for waiting too long, as my nails look hideous. (haha) Even after a month, I still get compliments on how good my nails look... Go Figure, so that alone is a confirmation that this place is...."THAT DAMN GOOD"! They have many color & style selections to choose from. They even offer a wide variety of services. I use to request for the same person, but at this point I am able to trust all the employees as it seems as they all have done a good job. I usually do Gel Nails, with sparkle glitter which is my fave. I sometimes get a pedicure and eyebrow waxing. Again, services are good there and I'm happy to promote this place. One down fall...wish they would post a price list! What I pay for a refill & pedi... 60 bucks which includes tip! (I think its reasonable...) I have yet to have a bad experience... and I highly recommend this place. This was my favorite place for 3 years. Recently the service has gone down hill! I was burned twice during lip waxing, and the skin was ripped off!! This nail salon is located in kaimuki. My mom, my daughter and my Self came to get a pedicure. I got the deluxe pedicure II. I had Marissa, she was very nice and friendly. The deluxe pedicure II comes with a paraffin wax dip. This made my feet feel so soft!! My daughter had Diane she is really good with kids!! We came on a Sunday and was really surprised how busy they are on Sundays. I've been in search of a new nail salon to come to and was so happy with my pedicure and service. I have come twice only, but am really happy and satisfied with the work. I originally had gel overlays from another salon which I wanted redone, but the lady saw the condition they were in and suggested acrylic. I was skeptical, but went along with it. The guy I had seemed a bit wary, but did a good job and made sure that I approved of the length, shape, etc. He tried to do my 3d nail art flower, but was unable to do the design I wanted. Instead of letting it go with something mediocre, he turned me over to another lady who did a beautiful job. I loved the end result. I came back a second time for a fill and another guy helped me. He did a wonderful job as well and I love how they are not stingy with their art designs or rhinestones. On top of all that, it is pretty reasonably priced. I've been coming here since I was 17 and I've tried the other places and they just don't compare. First of all their price simply cannot be beat. $35 for a mani pedi? Yes, please. Cute girly movie to watch during my relaxation time? Definitely. The staff always takes their time and makes you feel very relaxed. I know right now there's construction next door so their walls have been moved and there is some noise but you forget about that once they start working on you. Made an appointment for a buddy and myself to get pampered with a mani/pedi combo. I have previously enjoyed the services of Diana for not only her top notch service but her personal relation skills. No need to elaborate more on her that has already been said. When I arrived for my appointment (friend was looking for parking) the shop was pretty busy. I sat down and one of the ladies asked if I had chosen my nail polish color hahaha didn't phase me one bit cuz I know what was to come. Instructed to have a seat on the awesome massage chair to begin my pedicure. This particular provider was very quiet and I assumed she was Vietnamese just because they all are lol. She appeared to be late 30s early 40s and super quiet. However, she provided probably the BEST service that I have ever received! It's funny because I just assumed she didn't speak or understand English. I'm kinda talkative so I guess since I passed my go to Diana to my friend the time with the new provider would be quiet. This new provider never introduced herself from the beginning-put her head down and just worked on the task at hand and did so ever so skillfully. Removed cuticles, cut nails, and shaved down excess skin and snipped skin all around my toes. Then on to the most enjoyable massage. Yep and still hardly a peep from her-I didn't care. Onto the manicure and somehow we talked about children, cooking, and food-- she felt like an old lost friend from high school and we were catching up. Apparently she had just returned from a vacation and had a sore throat. She laughed because I thought she didn't speak or understand English and she did all the time. Her manicure service and massage was top notch and she displayed PRS (personal relation skills) that I remembered from girlfriends from the days long gone. She is definitely a repeat for me! It actually pains me to leave bad reviews, but our experience today was strange and subpar. My friend and I walked in for a pedicure and acrylic fill for her, and a new set for me. It really seemed like none of the ladies wanted to be at work or take care of us. The pedicures were just okay. Foot/leg massage was lousy. Meh, no big deal, we're happy to be able to relax and watch the movie they had on without our toddlers. They don't do the nails at the same time, again, not a huge deal. We go to do our nails, the technician working on my friend had a hard time getting the "coffin" shape right. A nail was crooked and when my friend pointed it out, no joke, the tech said, "no, it's how your finger curves"...like is this the Angela Johnson stand up? Anyway, my nails were looking good, a little longer than I wanted, but that's fine also. What I didn't notice until we left is the sides of my nails. Either the gel polish had gone over the edge to create a lip stuck to my skin, or corner of my actual nail were left squared off and visibly showing. Not filed down to match the shape of the entire nail. I should have gotten a picture but I couldn't stand it and immediately filed them down when I got home. Here's what really gets me, my total bill was $90! For a basic spa pedicure ($25) and a new set. Yes, I had my old ones removed, and the holographic foil in the new color. But price was never discussed with us and I shouldn't have to go home and fix anything for that price! I also told her I wanted to tip in cash, and after I signed my receipt, she disappeared and I tried for a few minutes to get the attention of anyone not with a guest to find the girls who took care of me. I even poked my head in their break room saying "excuse me" and they didn't look at me, so whatever. Not going back. read more

I am guessing this is why there were only several people inside. Either way, the girl that did my gel polish was very meticulous and I could tell she is a perfectionist which is always a good thing when getting your nails done. WHOA! Top Nails is really TOPS! I don't get a manicure and pedicure all to often, so I've been trying different salons here because I hadn't found one that I actually liked. Nail salons in Honolulu pale in comparison to mainland salons for the following reasons: lack of polish selection, selection tends to be older (gooey polish), sloppy work (prep and polish work), lackluster decor and cost (prices tend to be markedly higher here). After trying 5 different places here, I tried Top Nails two weeks ago. I was hesitant because the decor is hodge-podge. An outdated teenage movie was playing on the tv screens when there were no kids in sight. That's where the griping ended. My friend and I got pedicures. We got the mid-range pedi and it took a meticulous 75 minutes. When I left, it was literally the BEST pedicure that I got. My feet were soft, the cuticle work was amazing, and the nail polish has yet to chip. I will not only recommend Top Nails to all my friends, but will certainly return! YAY! read more

I appreciated that I wasn't just shoved off on any one but referred to someone who knew how to do the service. Always feel so clean and refreshed with an awesome pedicure :) They have tv right in front and the AC is awesome after a long day at work. I usually spend $30 for a pedicure w/ designs. I rarely do my nails since it usually doesn't last long because of where I work. (Need to have short clean nails always) Lots of parking. I brought my husband here for a Manicure and a Deluxe pedicure. He's a military officer so he enjoys pedicures to heal is worn out feet. As tough and rough as he is, he enjoys getting pampered. From first impressions the salon was adequate. No this too fancy and not to busy. We were a walk in and they were able to help us right away. He really enjoyed the sugar scrub, pumice stone and the mint cooling masque. He cut his chair massager on and laid back while he enjoyed the scrubs. I watched the technician and she was very thorough with cutting, cleaning up, shaping, and filing his toe nails. She took extra time to ensure that his cuticles were maintained and that she removed the dry callous skin from his feet. The manicure was nice as well and she was more than happy to give his hands and toes a shiny buff instead of a clear coat of polish. I am happy to say that he really enjoyed his man-y/pedi and the price ($40) was very reasonable. The only concern that I have is that they didn't use individually wrapped, single use utensils. I noticed that they had a sanitizing machine but were used to nail techs using new tools on each client. Other than that they were great! read more

I love it. I have gone there for the past few years, and they do my nails beautifully. :) When I leave the place, I'm always satisfied with whatever I get. Whether it'd be a pedicure, manicure, or acrylics. The worker are trained professions who do a wonderful job. And as for waxes, they do a nice and clean job of it. Although if a wax burns or rips your skin off, the manager kindly explained to me that it's often because of your skin type. :) For sensitive skin, use lotion/aloe. They also offer a type of wax, with string threading (I have not found this much where else!) that is used for people, who are sensitive to the wax. If I have any problems with them, I bring it up with the manager. She's nice, and is often reasonable or flexible about a lot of issues! read more
