This was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I came here to celebrate the start of Robinuary (my namesake and February bday all month long). This was amazing, the drinks...so good and made with love. The appetizers...too delicious and the main meal....to die for....absolutely enjoyed and ate every bite. The decor fancy and intimate. Back to the drinks- white sangria with peach and Jennifer added an apple splash topper. Yasss! Pretty in Pink drink ( an original creation by Jennifer bartender extraordinaire) so many great drinks. Simply an amazing time! The way to experience this restaurant is get there at 4pm for Happy Hour and some bar bites. Oh, yeah, Uber. You will thank me later. I tried five different features cocktails at Happy Hour (all half off). Nothing disappointed. I have pics, but can remember what is what. Try a lemon fizzy drink and Hurricane. Then, there is the food. I had filet sliders--good, good, good! People around me were raving about mussels, shrimp, and oysters (though a little too much breading, one couple said). I didn't do all the bar bites because I had to save room from my entree, the incredible Surf and Surf. Who knew more seafood and even more seafood could be a thing? Scallops, lobster stuffed with crab, and shrimp. Oh, so tasty. The asparagus and mash potatoes were on point. Every staff member was friendly. I met the owner. My former student helps to run the kitchen and is a culinary genius. I vouch for that! Then, there is the amazing bartender Jennifer who is so sweet and masterful at her mixology skills. We had been looking forward to trying Topsail for a while. we finally had a chance to dine at the cute eatery. The location is convenient and there seems to be ample parking. The restaurant itself is cute and the outdoor space is nice. The menu is nice, but on the more expensive side. I never mind paying for good food, so we thought it would be a nice place to bring our friends. That was the wrong move. We started with a round of drinks and oyster shooters. The oysters they used were jarred and warm. A jarred oyster has a firmer consistency due to the jarring process. We should have known when the only other oysters on the menu were fried. It is recommended not to eat these raw. If they offer oyster shooters on their menu, they should be freshly shucked... especially here. That is a way to get your patron sick. For a starter I ordered the Bone Marrow. We often make this at home and have it whenever it is on the menu. I had high hopes. When it arrived at my table it was pink and bloody with no char from the cooking process. I knew it wasn't cooked, but I wanted to be sure. I took a bite of cold, RAW bone marrow. Bone marrow needs to reach 145 degrees to be safe to eat. This is another way of getting your patron's sick. I waited nearly ten minutes until the main courses came. Our waiter never came back to the table, and I had the other server take the marrow back to the kitchen. It was brough back nearly ten minutes later cooked. It was the same piece of bone with a bit out of the middle. The plate had the same stale bread and cold sauce that was supposed to be used. The sauce was meant to be warm. This is a cheap dish to make. The kitchen should have made a fresh bone with fresh sauce and freshly toasted bread. This is a lack of integrity. Our waiter finally came out and addressed the issue, but not well. The lack of service not good. The rest of my parties' meals were lackluster and overpriced. The waiter raved about the tuna... its fresh and tuna grade. The kitchen will cook it rare. The tuna was old and fishy and was way overcooked. My guest took two bites and left it. He tried to eat the grits, but they were bland and cold, so he left the entire plate uneaten. The waiter never asked if everything was ok and never retrieved the plate. He cleaned off the entire table and gave me the check but left that plate sitting in front of my guest. We paid and got out of there as soon as possible. Three out of the four of us were sick that evening and the next day. We have iron constitutions, but topside made us all sick. I would avoid like the plague. I've never been sicker. Learn to property cook food to the temperature required. Nice addition to Mount Pleasant's fine dining scene! We have the lobster deviled eggs to start. Eggs were great but the lobster was rubbery and over cooked. Next up was the fried shrimp which were perfect. We split the pork Osso Bucco which was just okay. I prefer Osso Bucco with lamb or veal as the braised pork took on a stringy quality almost like pulled pork. Not a completely successful meal but I would go back. read more

This place was amazing, it doesn't look super fancy at first glance from the outside but it deserves all the hype. We ordered the red snapper which was the best fish I've had in a LONG time. It was big enough to split between two people and was a great price for the size. Our waiter was also the absolute best. The remodel looks clean and inviting, both inside and out. Love the space and arrangement, especially the fireside seating! The seafood-forward (thankfully small) menu is divine. Lobster deviled eggs, lobster mac, lobster crab cocktail, surf 'n surf entree, whole snapper, monk fish, scallops. The menu also includes great dishes to keep meat lovers happy. After a couple visits, we've now tried many dishes. The favorites so far are the lobster deviled eggs, the ceviche special, Surf 'n' Surf and the phenomenal Scallop entree. Seared scallops, topped with amazing bacon jam, served over fresh tasting smashed peas. One bite and hubby said we're coming back. Wrapping up a great meal with the Hummingbird Cake seals the deal! On a Thursday night we went here for drinks and appetizers at the bar. We had the fried shrimp and the bacon lobster macaroni and cheese. They also brought us some cornbread and hush puppies. The cornbread was cold, dense, and awful. However the hush puppies were fantastic. The fried shrimp were flavorful and the macaroni was delicious. The service was good but the restaurant was pretty empty and therefor too quiet to comfortably have a private conversation. But, I definitely recommend trying this restaurant. read more

Our server was pleasant. The coconut crab soup was interesting but I could have done without the tomatoes and it could be a little thicker but tasted good. The ceviche was a good combination and pleased the palate. My main course was the surf and surf. The scallops were perfectly cook and were flavorful. We went to this restaurant looking forward to try a new place close to home. We were taken to a two top in the middle of several other two tops and before sitting down, asked the hostess if it would be okay if we sat 5 feet away at the two top in the corner, she said "of course" and we sat down. Almost immediately, the man who had confirmed our reservation came over and said that we would have to move to our original table ... he was adamant that he could not let us sit there, it was embarrassing. Our food was very good, particularly the lobster deviled eggs, the arugula salad and the monk fish entree. Our waiter was less than attentive and never offered to refresh our drinks. My parents came in from Wisconsin and wanted to get some seafood and my dad found this restaurant and saw it had good reviews so we tried it out. To say the least it was very underwhelming. Our server only put in one order for the seafood platter because she thought my parents were sharing it and instead of clarifying that they both wanted their own dish she just continued on. Well everyone's food came out except my moms.. So I got up and went into the restaurant and told our server very nicely both of my parents each wanted their own seafood platter. So my dad gave his to my mother so she could eat and his came out probably 15/20 minutes later. This was not a good impression of Mount Pleasant for my parents. My dish was the crab stuffed flounder and it was not good. It had no flavor and let's just say today my body did not agree with it. I'm not sure if it was because of the amount of butter they put in the dish or what. The best part about this was they didn't even give us a discount because our server messed our food order up and ruined the evening. My wife and I stopped here spontaneously after canceling expensive dinner plans elsewhere. It was clean and small-ish but nice. We weren't particularly hungry, so no appetizers or desserts. We each got a cocktail (the Hemingway Daiquiri was the best) and an entree. My shrimp and grits was good and a large portion. My wife had the mahi-mahi. It was cooked to her liking and flavorful. The "platter" consisted of a rather small lobster tail a bit overcooked. No drawn butter as you would normally expect. Two large shrimp, not jumbo. Two small scallops. A crab cake smaller than a golf ball. About 1/2 cup of rice and 8 small spears of grilled asparagus. This is pitiful for the price. First of all, I would like to congratulate Brian and his team on opening this place! Decor and ambience were very inviting to its relaxed atmosphere. A very cool and unique fire pit awaits for you to enjoy, for outdoor dining/lounging. A supple jazzy musical is in background , as we walked in and greeted by the hostess. Our waitress was very attentive and very helpful. We started without a couple of the cocktails , one of the jalapeno margaritas and the other was a yuzu infused sour apple drink. Both were very refreshing and delicious!Yum! They had also brought out a basket of their cornbread and bacon wrapped hush puppies with a cajun butter, which really paired well. For the starters, we ordered some of The Mussels du jour, which they were perfectly cooked,(I could've swam in that broth!). Next the Lobster deviled eggs (which I could've eaten a dozen of!). Then the Flank steak skewers with the horseradish mint sauce (Outstanding if you love steak!). We also added the Crab stuffed Shrimp, which were LOADED of blue crab meat!!! BTW all this time our server was very attentive on keeping our drinks filled and anything else we needed. As for the entrees, we ordered the Monk fish and the whole Red Snapper. Monk fish was cooked perfectly and seasoned. If you like lobster, monkfish is where it's at! The red snapper was really on point. Cooked perfectly to fall off the bone. It came with a lemony white sauce, that made the dish absolutely delicious. Both entrees were fantastic and unique in their own way. Took my wife out for her birthday, and was looking for a place that was great, yet not too busy. Topsail did not disappoint. I have been in Charleston since 1976, have been to many restaurants, and have seen many come and go. This place is sooo worth a try. My wife had the Lobster deviled eggs, as well as the Nokie fish plate.. perfectly seared outside, deliciously tender and juicy on the inside. As we started eating, she turned into a female Gordan Ramsey, with all her descriptive words. She said it is tied for first place of the best restaurants ever! I had the pork chop meal, which was outstanding as well. The food being so great was only half the experience. The staff was so personable, and friendly. They made us feel as we were the only thing that mattered to them, without it being a chore. Water glass never got even half way empty, and there were several tea refills. Topsail is a perfect place for a nice dinner. You can also chill outside by the fire pit with one of the signature cocktails or wine. I was blown away from this restaurant! Being a couple who went during opening week, my husband and I were very impressed. The food was fresh and everything tastamazing. The atmosphere was great and we really enjoyed spending his birthday at Topsail. The staff made us feel welcome and catered to all of our needs. They did an excellent job renovating this place! We went here last night and it was amazing! I had the New York strip and my husband had the pork with smashed potatoes. Both were so tender. We were in Charleston for a few days and this was hands down the BEST MEAL of our entire trip. Two of us got the Seafood Platter and everything was cooked perfectly - crab cake, shrimp, Maine lobster tail, and scallops. My husband got the rosemary salmon and he loved it.
