    Halloween Treats
    Shannon R.

This Review is for the Halloween Tea Experience.... A Most Enchanting Halloween Tea at the Ritz-Carlton, Chicago By the Baroness of Ravenswood Manor The air that afternoon was deliciously crisp -- the sort of autumn day when even the trees seem to whisper secrets of the season. It was the perfect prelude to a Halloween Tea, and so, with gloved hands and high expectations, I set off for the Ritz-Carlton Chicago. One must always allow a few minutes of grace before an appointment, particularly when unfamiliar with a grand property. And grand it was -- though, upon arrival, I found myself momentarily adrift. Courteous attendants flitted about outside, yet none seemed able to direct me to the tearoom. Two sets of elevators, you see -- one for the heavens (the guest rooms), and one for the mere mortals (the restaurant). After a brief adventure in navigation, I emerged into a beautifully appointed lobby, where I was at last greeted by a charming host who immediately recognized the purpose of my visit. Despite my early arrival, I was graciously seated. Before I could even remove my cloak or disentangle myself from my gloves, a crystal flute of sparkling rosé materialized before me -- a most welcome omen. The host then explained the offerings of the afternoon with such detail that I half expected a butler to appear holding cue cards. I selected a bold black tea, reminiscent of my beloved Earl Grey, and soon my table was transformed into a picturesque tableau of tiered delicacies. The savory course began agreeably with cucumber and egg salad sandwiches -- stalwart companions of any proper tea. The Tuscan turkey and beet-cured salmon, while ambitious, were less successful -- rather like debutantes who had not yet learned the art of subtlety. As I sipped and savored, my teapot dwindled, and like magic, fresh hot water appeared, followed closely by a generous refill of rosé -- the kind of attentive service that earns eternal loyalty. Then came the grand parade of sweets, a feast for both eye and appetite. A macaron, a blackberry tart, and a most delightful gateau -- each bedecked with festive bats, monsters, and a tiny tombstone. So whimsical! So charming! And yes, quite delicious. The scones were positively divine -- tender, buttery clouds that begged to be slathered in jam so exquisite I would have smuggled a jar home if propriety had allowed. Alas, the quiche was somewhat less thrilling, but one cannot have triumphs across every front. The service, however, was beyond reproach. Every wish anticipated, every detail considered. And to conclude, a final touch of seasonal sweetness -- a caramel apple wrapped to take home, as if to whisper, "Remember us when the candles are snuffed and the night grows dark." All in all, it was one of the most enchanting teas I have attended -- elegant, imaginative, and utterly befitting the season. The Ritz-Carlton, I dare say, knows how to conjure a little magic. Yours in tea and twilight, The Baroness of Ravenswood Manor.

Torali delivers an exceptional fine dining experience. Every dish we tried was outstanding, complemented by excellent service. The salmon I ordered was perfectly cooked and beautifully prepared. As for dessert, the Torali Triple Chocolate Layer Cake was simply unforgettable--one of the best chocolate desserts I've had in years. We absolutely loved it!

I was so impressed with the Restaurant Week Lunch here in 2024! For $25 it was a fantastic value and also just a beautiful classy venue with superb service! This restaurant is located on the 12th floor of the Ritz Carlton hotel which is located at Water Tower Place in downtown Chicago. My review of each of the items on the lunch menu: Appetizers: -Smoked Salmon Bruschetta, which was yummy and a generous serving, I wish it had a little bit more flavor (4/5). -The soup of the day was butternut squash soup (4.5/5 which had a nice creamy flavor and came with a few small pieces of bread). Main entrees: -Rainbow Trout (5/5 this was fantastic! One of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time, the skin was perfectly crispy and the fish itself super tender, super impressed with this dish!) -Mushroom Rigatoni (4.5/5 the mushrooms and the white sauce had an excellent flavor, definitely very satisfying if you're looking for a dish with some carbs) -Panini (4/5 the sandwich was perfectly crispy with melted cheese inside and the side salad had a nice fruity vinagrette which balanced out the heaviness of the sandwich). Dessert: -Chocolate cake (5/5- this chocolate cake was divine and one of the best cakes that I've had in recent memory! It was also a super generous portion! -Affogado (4/5 - I always love the flavors of affogado being the coffee fan that I am. The vanilla ice cream and coffee were great, but I didn't like the 3 little biscottis that it came with on the side because they had a licorice? inside). Overall, so happy with this meal and would definitely come back again!

Spending time with my boyfriend's family for the holidays. We had Christmas brunch at Torali located at the Ritz Carlton on the 12th floor. Upon entering you have a grand lobby area which to the right another cool bar, to the left is the restaurant and from afar you have the roof top lounge where you see the skylights. We checked in at the hostess counter and we sat in a booth. Menu was not overwhelming at all. I ordered the Big Glory Bay Salmon and had a glass of Sancerre with it. The salmon was so juicy and soft. It was the filet Mignon of the whole menu. I was tried their Bear Claw. Not just any ordinary donut bear claw. This was like a French bear claw, like an almond croissant and I love the details on how they made the knuckles on the bear claw. Everyone enjoyed their meals and no complaints at all. Such a Grand experience!

Why aren't people talking about this hidden gem rooftop? Next to the Broadway Playhouse in the Ritz. Quiet rooftop with beautiful views and cheap beer.

Exactly what you'd expect from a ritz Carlton bar. Class and inspiring energy. Staff was friendly and helped me achieve a custom mojito.

Had a lovely lunch at Torali after a spa day with friends at The Ritz. The food was delicious, and our server was exceptionally attentive and friendly. The natural sunlight that the restaurant gets was amazing on a sunny, spring Chicago day!

We had our first meal here after our wedding and our first Valentine's Day as well. The place is clean and beautiful. The food is so good. The service is exceptional. Hector and the rest of the staff took good care of us. We'll be coming back for sure. I highly recommend this place.

Quality dinner but outstanding breakfast with service and style worthy of the Ritz! Pros: Elegant, amazing service, stellar breakfast! Cons: Expensive, not for large groups. Breakfast and dinner for me and my GF this weekend. 10:30Am we get a seat and servers are prompt. I ordered a two egg breakfast and while simple everything was perfectly made including over medium eggs. I don't like hollandaise sauce but my girl got the prettiest and best made Benedict with salmon I ever saw. For dinner at 8:30 we shared grilled skirt steak frites and drinks. The steak was perfect and the fries were the best I ever had (and I don't normally enjoy fries). Both drinks were good too but I enjoyed my Mango Collins most. Desert was not to my liking as the vegan cheesecake didn't solve my cravings but even I could tell it was quality made. Its not something I would normally do but we felt luxurious that night. Breakfast per person w/ tip $35 Dinner per person w/ tip $60 Rating 9/10

    BAKED RICOTTA CHEESECAKE. So cute!!

We were so happy with everything! Our server was wonderful! The entire staff was so friendly and on top of their game! We never waited for anything. They were immediately refilling our waters, offering more bread, removing dirty plates, replacing silverware, and offering the next course. It was perfect! The views!!! I think there's not a table in NoMi that doesn't have an amazing view. The main, large window faces the lake (East). Arriving just at 7, you get the full affect of the city, and lake, and then the sunset and lights of the buildings. It was absolutely magical. I couldn't get enough of it. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and clean, but honestly it could have been a pit and I wouldn't have noticed. You'll be focused on the views for the entire evening. The food!!! Everything is very fresh. It's all well-prepared. Everything was delicious. There's a good variety of dishes to choose from. Plenty of healthy, low-carb options. We each ordered our own appetizers. I had the crispy Maitake mushrooms and my husband had the mussels. We both loved our food and left nothing on our plates. Excellent choices, that we highly recommend. As our main course we shared the sushi platter. The seafood was fresh and the sushi didn't have too much rice. It was the perfect amount of food with our appetizers. They have an extensive wine and drink menu. For drinks I had a glass of the Sauvignon blanc and my husband had a red blend. For dessert we weren't really hungry enough to eat anything else but my husband wanted a pallet cleanser. They have a few sorbets. My husband settled on the cherry cola sorbet. They brought it out with a little chocolate that said "Happy Anniversary" in French. They did not add it to our bill. Very sweet of them. It was probably one of the best anniversaries we've ever had. The bill was about $230 before tip. We highly recommend coming here for any special occasion.

We bought the tickets that included the Tilt, the Observation Deck, and the CloudBar. That was the way to have the complete experience on the 94th Floor of the John Hancock Building. The views are spectacular!! Look up and there are mirrors on the ceiling! Lots of cool photo ops! We enjoyed it here. There needs to be more organized seating all around the 360 because the place is packed. There are some tables closest to the Bar but not around the entire deck. You have to hold your drink the whole time and get bumped into. There is no obvious line at the bar and you accidentally go in front of other people who thought they were in line and they get upset. There are also mini bleachers where people were spilling their drinks because there was no place to put their drinks. The floor was sticky and wet. We got alcohol spilled on us from those climbing down the bleachers. Not a pleasant experience. The drinks were ok. My Magnificent Margarita was too sweet for my taste and it was a generous pour. My daughter had the Crossbeam and was able to select what she preferred. I should have done that one. The bartender was friendly and nice despite how busy he was. There are restrooms for men and women but the women's is not very big or wide. The line is mostly outside the restroom. It was tight in there. Would we go again? Yes.

That said, this place just completely disappointed. The food was just not good. I had the burger sliders and for $9 a piece you expect them to be something special. They were not. Overcooked with a little sauce and two pickles slapped on the bun with a tiny little dab of fake cheese - it was like a bad and way more expensive version of McDonald's. The onion rings were the frozen crumbly kind not the fresh beer battered kind and so that's a big "no!" for me. The dipping sauce was okay. Service was friendly and I think the guy was new but it wasn't good enough for a place like that at the top of the building. There were two servers so I'm guessing one was training maybe. They didn't make it to my table to check to see if everything was okay while I was eating and it even took them a while to notice that I was done eating. It's was slow so I don't think they were stressing with too many tables. That kind of place should knock your socks off - but it was on the low end of mediocre. I wouldn't go there again for food. It is a must visit - if only all hotel restaurants were this good. We had a late dinner reservation on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was almost emptied out. So that made for a lovely, semi-private dining experience. Selecting a wine was dicey, as earlier that week flooding had damaged the cellar (!), but our server, Alex, was very helpful and worked with us to find something to my liking. We landed on a 2015 Cornas which was showing beautifully and matched perfectly with our meal. Alex did a fantastic job taking care of us during the wine reconnaissance and throughout the meal. Speaking of which, we started with the deviled eggs, which were amazing. An elegant balance of cream and salt from the caviar. For my entree, i had the venison. It was a seared filet on I believe a sweet potato puree, and it was rich and tender. Order it rare, if its on the menu.
