Okay so I've been here on four different occasions and it's about time Torchio gets the praise it deserves. This is easily one of the top 5 meals I've had in Chicago since I've been here. Every single dish I've had the pleasure of trying has been a hit. You will not go wrong with the Cacio e pepe, pesto, or truffle/mushroom pasta. The space is warm and inviting and the perfect stop on a cold, chilly day. They've made some renovations recently and expanded their seating capacity to accommodate all the pasta aficionados in the city. Very friendly wait staff, our gave us a tip that you can add a parmesan bowl for an extra $3! The outdoor seating is a little chilly in the winter, even with heaters. Ive been to my fair share of Italian places and ill say the food here was very mediocre. Good but not great. read more

It was smaller and louder than I expected but the food was delicious. We had a bottle of wine, the Tomato and Fig Jam Crostini with Whipped Ricotta, a ribbon pasta dish with veal and beef and a shell pasta dish with spicy sausage and broccoli rabe. Ate here for dinner on the patio with my one year old, and I was so impressed by how positive the experience was! The service was very kind and attentive, both from our waiter and the consistent presence of the server refilling out water--so important after a hot day. He even brought a sippy cup for my son. My husband and I shared the short rib pappardelle, and the whole family was a huge fan of the flavor--plus, they divided the portion for us, and it was substantial, both pasta and meat. I had heard rave reviews about this place but unfortunately it was a major let down. They had us wait 30 minutes for our reservation, when ample tables were available outside. They mentioned they would comp our first round for the inconvenience- they did not. The burrata was great to start, but all of our meals lacked flavor and weren't tasty enough for any of us to finish or bring home left overs. My sister and I came in for lunch on a hot Saturday afternoon and we were seated immediately. The service was fantastic - super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The owner also swung by to check in at one point. We ordered the arugula salad, spring vegetable pappardelle, and the cacio e pepe, all to share. The salad was sizeable and just what we needed to get some tasty greens in. My favorite dish was the pappardelle. The texture of the noodles was best described as bouncy and the mix of veggies was light and refreshing. The cacio e pepe totally lived up to the hype. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the flavor was just right. The prices are typical for a nice, sit-down meal and, especially given that the food and service are amazing, are well worth it. Found this place on Yelp as it had good reviews and great looking pics showcasing pasta. Well this place lived up to the other reviews. We sat next to some regulars who said they come here for the pasta. Looking around everyone was dinning on various looking scrumptious plates. I ordered Spaghetti Carbonara. Fantastic!! This time I got the Saffron Arancini appetizer which was very unique, spicy & delicious as well as the Giovannias bolognese & Torchio pasta. We had family visiting from Florida and wisely decided to introduce them to our very fave, Torchio Pasta Bar. These people know excellent food and know how to create it themselves. Our entire experience was outstanding. The hostess greeted us with a warm smile and our server--wish I remembered her name-- was so pleasant, professional and knowledgeable in answering questions. We started with the always delicious meatballs and an arugula salad. We shared one risotto and three pasta dishes. One pasta with shrimp and one with meat. All perfection. The sauces at Torchio are indescribably good. For dessert we had the housemade gelato, olive oil cake and tiramisu. Everyone agreed that our choice of Torchio was perfect. Delicious and unique pasta dishes. INCREDIBLE service!! Our waitress Sophie was so knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. She guided us to get all the best dishes and even threw in a extra pasta on the house!! She definitely made the experience. Such a fun, trendy bar atmosphere. Overall the more traditional pasta dishes such as cacio de Pepe and amatriciana were delicious but not my favorite. But I'm very particular about those dishes. The marinara used for the gnocchi appetizer was honestly the most the delicious sauce of the bunch. Happy hour is awesome here. From 5-630 Tues-Friday they have $9 wine and spritz and $9 apps. We got the gnocchi (phone did NOT eat first) and the whipped ricotta (the jam was soooo good). I got red wine and my sister got the limoncello spritz which tasted like summer. The space is really good with moody lighting and a large bar to eat at. My Sister and I walked past the restaurant in the morning, Bill, the owner, was walking out. He told us they were booked that night, but chatted with us, and was so charming, friendly, and kind. My Sister mentioned it was my 60th birthday the day prior. Later that night, after being caught in a rainstorm in Lincoln Park, we walked past the restaurant again on our way back to our hotel. The place was packed, but Bill happened to see us, and said "You came back! Do you want to have dinner?" We told him he was booked, and we were wearing sweatshirts, and rain poncho's, soaked to the skin, certainly not suitable for dining there. He said not to worry, and found us a cozy seat in the front window. T-Bone was our server, and he was also charming, attentive, and kind. The food was outstanding, from start to finish, the Arugula Salad and Whipped Ricotta & Tomato Fig Jam Crostinis were both wonderful. I haven't had Cacio E Pepe this good since the last time I was in Rome, it doesn't get any more authentic than this! The mini Cannoli's were sweet perfection and Bill remembered from our brief conversation earlier that day that it was my birthday and sent over Gelato with a candle! Even though it was super busy and every seat was taken, he continued to stop by to check in on us and see if we needed anything. Throughout our meal, T-Bone, and several other servers checked on us, the service was just amazing! My Sister and I both work in the service industry, and could not believe the attention to detail, the kindness and attentiveness of everyone in the restaurant, service like this is rare, if not impossible to find. I am anxious to go back and try more of their outstanding pasta dishes, and will certainly send all of my friends to do the same. I had a wonderful birthday celebration at Torchio Pasta Bar last night with my husband and some dear friends. This was our first time there, but definitely not our last! We were seated in their beautiful outdoor space, surrounded by colorful flowers and heat lamps to keep us cozy and warm on a cool Chicago night. The server was excellent and very attentive! We started off this wonderful culinary experience with the Saffron Arancini and Eggplant Caprese appetizer. Both were superb! My husband had the Braised Short Rib and Pappardelle and loved it! I had the Truffle and Fried Burrata Fettuccine. The delicate meatiness of the mushrooms and the creaminess and crunchy texture of the panko-encrusted burrata were incredibly satisfying.
