Checked this place out Saturday evening. We were a group of 8 with no reservation and they managed to find a way to fit us - which we were so thankful for because the food is delicious! The ricotta appetizer, the gnocchi and the bolognese were all big crowd pleasers at the table. So many more options looked delicious to try so we need to make sure we make it back! We had tasty unique cocktails, 3 appetizers and 1 salad and 4 entrees, coffee martinis and cake to go. I'll start by saying I am 100% Italian having grown up with plenty of homemade food and pastries with my family owning a bakery many years ago. Torchio's ingredients are fresh, dishes are very flavorful, pasta and risotto cooked to perfection and plentiful. It is quite apparent they take pride in their food and service! The service here is excellent, we wanted for nothing as they are very attentive! And the super friendly owner is there greeting diners, is very hands on and same with the manager checking in too. Excellent homemade pasta!!! Love that we finally have great homemade pasta in Chicago. My husband got the orichette and I got the clams spaghetti.. I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity of clams (a lot!) which was awesome, and the broth was so great. The orichette was my favorite! It has a nice kick and just a really well-rounded dish. Our favorite Italian in the city. We come here about every 3 weeks. The pasta is fresh and perfectly al dents every time. We have had trouble with our reservations 2 times so a minor piece of feedback for management but it doesn't matter because the Pasta is that great. read more

My wife and I live right down the street and our neighbors have been raving about this place. We decided to try it out for the first time this week with two of them and was pleasantly surprised. What a disappointment. The entrees were extremely bland, almost flavorless. We tried adding salt, red pepper flakes, the pesto from the appetizer--but nothing worked. We gave up and left most of our entrees untouched. The service was great, but no amount of lovely service can make up for bad entrees, especially at this price point. read more

This place has been a home run every time! The food is delicious and services is 2nd to none! This weekend was my 1st time placing a takeout order. Sam took my order and was very helpful with entree recommendations. However, when we got home we realized we were missing an entree. I called Torchio and spoke with Sam and he apologized profusely for the mistake and went above and beyond to self deliver the missing entree within 20 minutes of the phone call. We tried to tip him for the delivery and kindly refused the tip and said, "I just had to make this right". This just goes to show you the character of their staff. We're very glad we stopped into Torchio today. We had several pastas, each showing a respect for ingredients and care in preparation. Cacio e pepe is a kind of benchmark, as it's so simple but easy to mess up, and we could not have been happier with Torchio's version of it. The gnocchi is baked, and it has a lightness and fullness of flavor we haven't experienced before with this particular pasta. Amatriciana was quite delicious, too. For dessert, my wife adored the olive oil cake and I fell for the tiramisu in a big way. It seems like the owners are trying to stay faithful to the Italian sources of the food while tweaking here and there to see if there's any way to make specific dishes more interesting and delicious. We went to this restaurant the day after it opened, which we were shocked to learn as the food was spectacular and the service calm and attentive. I have never had pasta this good outside of Italy, and maybe not even there. Additionally, I am gluten-intolerant and am always disappointed by the gluten-free pasta alternatives that are offered elsewhere. Not this time, my gluten-free pasta was absolutely perfect with no discernible difference in taste. In general, our dishes were fresh, perfectly seasoned, lick-your-plate-clean delicious. So delicious! The portion sizes are deceivingly large (from spying on neighbors' food before we ordered) and the staff was above average friendly. The meatballs as a starter were so good! My husband and I popped into Torchio last Friday after work and had such a lovely time. To start, the restaurant is beautifully done and has a cozy feel to it. We had the burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer which was so perfect and delicious down to the sea salt that was used. We then ordered the bolognese and the radiatore al telefono with mini meatballs and both were amazing. The owner (who also makes the pasta) stopped by and introduced himself and we talked a bit which was just the icing on the cake. Absolutely excellent!! Definitely one of the best Italian restaurants to join Chicago's list. My parents were in town this weekend and we wanted to take them for Italian. We walk by Torchio on our way home from work so we decided to try it. It was bit of a risk taking guests there since we hadn't tried it ourselves, but I was BEYOND impressed. We're also an Italian family, so we can be tough on our reviews of Italian food. We ordered 4 dishes, 1 app and dessert. We started with the Semolina Gnocchi, then we had Giovanna's Bolognese, the Rigatoni, Orecchiette and the seafood fra diavolo. We all shared bites, but not too many because the dishes were all so good we didn't want to share. I enjoyed the Orecchiette the best, it was the perfect amount of spice and flavors. For dessert we had the olive oil cake and the fruit tart. Both equally great in their own way. We all absolutely loved our experience at Torchio and the service was great. I will start by saying our server was lovely, but that's where it ends. We were first seated at a table squished up against a wall and about 6 inches from the table next to us so we asked if we could be moved to a more spacious spot. The result was a table that should not even be an option for customers and was more of a small weird counter with bar stools at the entrance of the restaurant facing the window. I decided to just deal with it so as not to look like a diva (having asked to move once already), but eventually was so uncomfortable I stood for the majority of our time dining. The manager (or owner?) came by to ask if everything was ok and I said I was just uncomfortable and that the table setup was very strange so I'm opting to stand. He just said ok and walked away. I ordered a salad, deciding I didn't want to stand over a counter eating pasta, and it also wasn't great. I took a couple of bites, and when the server asked how it was, I was honest and said not great but left it at that. So she cleared it immediately and I admittedly assumed it would be comped. My boyfriend did enjoy his chicken entree. All in all, we spent over $100 (and tip, of course, because I'm not a jerk) for a salad I didn't eat, roasted chicken, and a couple drinks at a sad table that I stood at for 90% of our time there. I had this reservation for 2 months and was really looking forward to a nice date night and am really disappointed in the experience as well as the lack of service recovery. I wish I'd spoken up more about the table, but telling the manager when asked that you're uncomfortable at their weird table and choosing to stand should have been enough. I also can't help but wonder if the terrible table placement, not once but twice, was due to the fact that my boyfriend was the only non white person in the restaurant. I won't be back and can't recommend this place. There are too many other great options in the neighborhood. read more

The service was great and we ended up staying a bit after closing time and don't regret a single thing we ate. From the pasta all the way down to the tiramisu. We found this gem by searching for Italian restaurants. We are SO glad we did! It was a girl's trip and we wanted to find some new places. Several things we noted from other reviewers were that the pasta is made daily by the delightful owner Bill, the pictures looked delicious and we appreciated the owner's response to the reviews. While the delectable food came out incredibly fast, it was plated as perfectly as it tasted! The special with scallops was a perfect blend of light, fresh, slightly spicy heaven! The appetizer with whipped ricotta and tomato fig jam was the perfect way to start out. Sadly, we were too full to try dessert. Looking forward to our next visit! We'll be back! read more

I only have great things to say about Torchio. We made a reservation for 8:15pm on a Friday and arrived a few minutes early. We were kindly told that our table was wrapping up. They ended up taking much longer than expected with my party waiting close to an hour but the staff and Bill were so kind and apologetic that we didn't even mind. Bill even gave us a free glass of wine! Being from NY we can get good pasta on every corner but I have never had pasta as good as Torchio! Torchio held a special place in my heart until tonight. My family went to this restaurant after learning my mom had a terminal illness. It was a beautiful place to spend time with her knowing we had little time remaining. All through COVID closures, I was rooting for this place to stay open. Finally, I made a trip back to IL and back to Torchio, and tonight, the owner had absolutely no regard my experience. The music was so loud, no one could hear each other and people were shouting to be heard. We asked to turn down the music. The owner approached and said - "this is who we are. Great date night spot! Adorable atmosphere, great food and service. I came here for my birthday dinner after finding out they have cacio e pepe (my favorite dish). We got a bottle of wine, appetizer, and two pasta dishes which were all delicious. After finding out it was my birthday, they surprised us with free glasses of champagne. Great choice for our evening in chicago. Delicious food-I had the pasta with ham, peas and vodka sauce. Texture of the pasta was perfect, beautifully seasoned and presented. Roasted asparagus was delicious too. We ate outside and appreciated the lovely space. Best of all, though, was our server, Sophia, who was fun, personable, and watched over us well without being intrusive. Wow! What a great experience! We ate at Torchio's on Friday night. When we arrived the place was bustling and we were seated immediately near the bar. We were celebrating my son and his fiancee's birthday, and it just happened to be Bill the owner's birthday as well! He and his wife made us feel like we were in their home!
