I had been to Torchy's in other cities but not Austin (I know! Boo-hiss) so this was exciting for me. It had been a while since I had tasted these tacos so I got some popular ones off the menu. Ordered the Trailer Park and the Brushfire and never regretted it. I got the Trailer Park "trashy" style which meant out with the lettuce and in with the queso - best decision I've made in a while! That taco had crispy breaded chicken, ooey gooey queso, green chile, pico de gallo, and amazing poblano sauce. Sooo delicious. The Brushfire was more subtle - the Jamaican Jerk chicken was not as flavorful as I had hoped but I really enjoyed the mango and the sour cream sauce. The chips and quac are also wonderful. The avocado is so fresh and the chips are hot and crisp. I had to limit myself from eating too many so I could save room for my tacos! At lunch it took a little while to get our food but it's worth the wait for sure. Also, if you sit outside, be prepared to be dive-bombed by taco-hungy pigeons. Terrible location. They constantly mess up orders. Either it's getting it wrong, or forgetting a part of it. It's always good, but I find myself annoyed almost every time I eat there. Their wait times are usually way too long and their employees are not very competent. I've also tried ordering delivery using Door Dash a couple times and a sauce was missing each time. This is not Door Dash's problem. Torchy's employees should be checking these orders more diligently before sending it. They just don't seem to really care. Good food. Bad management. Torchy's... just when I thought you could not get any closer to my house you open the S. Lamar location. I am starting to feel surrounded. I go one direction from my house for the S. 1st location. I go the other direction I get on Manchaca for the back entrance to your new location. That being said I get the point you want me to eat more Torchy's and guess what I am more than happy to oblige. Torchy's is surprisingly consistent, I can eat at any Austin location and the quality is always the same. Plus the size is filling enough that one will generally get me full but I splurge on a 2nd.... Then comes the Diablo sauce... i love this stuff. It is a rare blend of spice, flavor and thickness. I have even taken some home to eat on chips. While a former Austinite told me the ones in Dallas are not living up to the Torchy's name the new one on S. Lamar definitely is. read more

As far as food quality is concerned, it's not much better than Taco Bell. In fact, the only way it could've been any worse is if I had gotten food poisoning. The first time I came here, I got the Brushfire which was overwhelmingly shocking in spicyness (I was literally crying) but it was so good, so good. Other winners for me include the Diplomat and the Baja shrimp (even though my friend PB says it's not exactly ba-ha-y..). Another friend said their vegetarian burritos were winners, complete with fried avocado. They've also got maine root and Dublin DP, so make sure to layer up--3/4 DP, 1/8 maine root black cherry, and 1/8 maine vanilla. Worst experience possible with minimal response. When I came in to order two tacos Togo, the woman behind the register would not speak up. It was not that loud in the restaurant but she was nearly impossible to heAr. The only time she spoke up was when it came to paying. My friend, who ordered after me, get her burrito and queso in 10-15 minutes max. Mine took about 25-30. When I asked why it took so long the girl said she didn't know and walked off. When I got home I realized it was because someone forgot about it and just left it there in the back. I know this because both of my tacos were room temp when I got home (2 minute drive or less). Only once had a nice person. I find myself giving THEM good customer service as the customer. Hospitality at its finest? Not here. Basic/good customer service? Not here. Don't want to eat my food in this kind of atmosphere. Again, South Congress location is amazing. People are professional, happy, and at least give BASIC good customer service. Hot Damn. If I coulda, I woulda come here twice on my trip! Even though I didn't get to visit the truck/trailer, I like the non-mosquito option of being indoors. These are some quality dogs, very comparable to some places in LA, however, these also are average/equal prices. I am all about Jalapeno anything, so I would go for the Republican again, but the Green Chile Pork was a close second. Don't be deceived, you'll be able to eat about half of what you want to order. I'll start by saying the two stars is definitely not because of the food. The food is amazing and it always is. My husband and I are regular customers. Usually the service is pretty good. Today, it was awful. At 2:45 on Saturday, May 20th...We waited in line for about 10 mins which isn't too bad. When we finally got to the front, we stood back waiting for someone to acknowledge us before stepping to the counter. The girl with long blonde hair and glasses just stood there looking around. After a few mins, she finally acknowledged us but didn't say a word. No smile. No hello. I stepped to the counter and waited for her to say something. She just stared at me with the look like she did not want to be there. I started saying my order and then she decided to interrupt and say "for here or to go?" Throughout the order process she was super rude and very unfriendly. Never smiled, never said anything nice. She just seemed like she hated her job and did not want to help us. She slapped the number card down and receipt for me to sign and never said another word. Once our food was brought to the table, the food runner was very nice and asked if we needed anything else. He definitely helped us feel better about our visit. It's just so aggravating to not feel welcome when we love torchy's food. read more

Dirty Sanchez, Brushfire, Fried Avocado, Fajita Chicken, and the Baja Shrimp are our favorite tacos, my boyfriend and I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with this place... 2-3 times a week. Unfortunately, you guys get one less star from a perfect review because your dear Rachel either has had a horrible day, everyday of her life(understandable) or just hates her job. Was so rude/passive to us(not understandable) and doesn't seem to fit what Torchy's Tacos atmosphere is about. Two pieces of advice for you, sweetheart: if you hate your job, quit it. Find something outside of customer interaction. And if you don't and you're just a sad person, maybe try lighting the fuck up. Don't ruin other people's mood with yours. I l liked the green chili pork tacos the best. The tacos are huge but that's why they cost more. There was a line when we went after 1PM on a Saturday afternoon but it did go by quickly. Lots of indoor seating. Plenty of parking in the plaza lot. They also offer outdoor seating. Worth checking out if you're visiting but we probably won't return unless we're drunk and craving dirty tacos. read more

After I ordered the tacos I decided the hell with the diet and also ordered guacamole at the last second. The first total was$14.97. The second total was $19.97 + $5 tip (which I totally regret now). Me: No I'd like to verify with her (this part may not be 100% correct because I don't see me saying verify, but I can't think of what I actually said). Man: You can just have it. When visiting Austin, everyone told us we had to stop by and have tacos at Torchy's. We made this our last stop on the way out of town to the airport. We are mostly vegetarian, so finding tacos we can eat is often a challenge. No problem at Torchy's! The tacos we got were creative, fun, and yummy. Our daughter liked them too. Yup. These were the Austin tacos I was looking for! I got the Baja Shrimp and wow, the flavors exploded in my mouth. My boyfriend got the breakfast tacos with bacon and they were definitely hefty potions and he loved them. The hot sauce (habanero?) that came with the Baja Shrimp complimented the flavors so well. We also got the queso, which I was told was a must-try, and I'm glad we did. First off, who doesn't like queso, and secondly the spicy kick was just perfect.
