The bar area is fun and totally great to even come alone on a chill Saturday or just whenever. I am regretting not taking my east coast friends here when they were down here craving tacos. I have never felt so trashy. Our night originally started out with the intent on going to a BBQ place. Lines at all of the local BBQ places were insane so we decided on Torchys. The menu at first was a little overwhelming but Claudia stepped up and helped us through it explaining and making awesome suggestions. From NJ, one of the best torchy's I've been to thus far in TX. When you enter, you can tell how clean and organized with signs to guide you which way to order. VERY SPACIOUS, which is one thing I appreciated at this torchy's, as opposed to other torchy's, where I'm elbowing people next to me while enjoying my fried avocado. (no, thank you.) Food: Queso and chips: PERFECT. Cannot say anything else about queso. Cheese, scoop of guac in the middle topped with spicy sauce and some more cheese. The independent: Good, but definitely needs some kind of a sauce in there. It was very dry and hard to swallow without a drink along a bite. I would recommend either using the avocado ranch they have or add a little bit of queso. Also, not something you can save for later, the beans get extra dry and the taco doesn't taste as flavorful anymore. Fried avocado: ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Whether you're a vegetarian or not, this is a must! Add queso, avocado ranch, AND their spicy sauce! Yup, go town with their sauces and you will not regret it! Everybody needs to experience a piece of heaven in real time and THIS IS IT. Drinks: can order drinks at the same place you order food or at the separate bar on the side. My group placed an online order for pickup via the DoorDash app last night. From the seamless online experience to the pickup, everything was a breeze. We ordered 9 tacos and a chips and queso. Online, we were quoted about 20-25 minutes for the pickup. When we arrived, we were early, so we waited. When I went to get the order inside, the pickup was on time as described on the app. All of the food was prepared correctly. We have some food allergies, so it's imperative that the food is made right, and everything was perfect! They gave us all the sauce we needed for the tacos! Overall, this was a perfect experience! Had a mixed experience at Torchy's. I think my biggest grip with these tacos is the price. The price is quite steep for what you are getting as you can get similar quality for a lot less at other places. The first taco I had was the trailer park (trashy) and it was very filling, but fried chicken with queso just felt too heavy and kinda gross. Next I had the baja shrimp which I thought was really good! The cabbage, pickled onions, and shrimp work really well together! Last, I had the Mr. Orange and I was a bit torn on that one. The salmon itself was tasty, but the taco overall lacked substance and was dry and felt pretty weak considering that it costs over $5. A lot of my issues with these tacos would be forgivable if the tacos were not so expensive...but for the price they charge, I would expect a premium. read more

I have been excited to try Torchy's food ever since I saw they were opening in the old Applebee's location. I had a craving for some queso and the reviews said their's is the best, so I gave in to my hankering a few days ago. An employee greeted me warmly when I approached the counter. I let her know that I had never eaten at a Torchy's and we both joked about how shocked we were- lol! She explained the menu and also stated that they are known for their queso. I, of course, ordered the queso, the Independent (fried portabella mushroom) and the Baja Shrimp tacos. She gave me a lighted buzzer to let me know when the order was ready. Had a seat and waited. And waited. And waited. I was really surprised how long it was taking. For some reason, I thought they had a salsa station so I asked an employee. The older woman did not speak a lick of English and had to ask a customer nearby what I was saying. Sorry, but if you work in an American chain restaurant, the employee needs to speak English. Just my opinion, but how can you give good service if you can't understand the customers? The buzzer did not buzz, but an employee did arrive at my table where I was waited and rattled off the tacos that I ordered. I looked at him and he realized the queso and chips were not in the order. He left and I waited. He returned with the rest of the order and I asked if the sauce was on the shrimp taco or is it supposed to be in a cup since only one cup was in the bag. He returned with the same sauce as the other but I was running late and didn't want to wait AGAIN for them to get the order correct. Got home and was, honestly, a little shocked how small the queso dip was--it seriously was the size of a cup from any other restaurant. $6 for a cup. I will say, though, that it was as delicious as people have raved! Creamy queso with cilantro, guacamole and a nice spicy kick. The chips were crispy with just the right amount of salt. The portabella taco was somewhat of a let down because the only thing I tasted was the beans. Mounds of mounds of beans. And a slice of avocado that kept falling out of the taco. Bummer. The Baja shrimp, on the other hand, was incredible. Crispy fried shrimp, nice and crunchy, with the heat from the chipotle sauce (not sure if this was supposed to go with it or there was a sauce specific to the taco since I received two of the same.) I would most definitely order this again! All in all, a good first visit. If it hadn't been for the nice female employee at the counter, I would have rated it lower just due to the multiple errors and the Spanish-speaking only employee who couldn't help me. I was completely blown away by the experience I had at the Grand Opening event. I have been to Torchy's all over Texas and this was honestly one of my favorites. Sassy vibes all around with the "Tacoholics Anonymous" and "You Look Damn Good" signs! Plenty of indoor and patio seating and a modern feel. I ordered the Brushfire (if you love spicy you'll love this one) and the Alabamashake. The Street Corn is delicious and is a must. Guac and queso are also phenomenal. If you have a sweet tooth, be sure to try the Lil Nookies, which are little fried balls of cookie dough. Be sure to complement your meal with a ice cool margarita or cocktail like I did. As a long-time Torchy's fan, I've learned a few things, like the fact that there is a Secret Menu. Ask for it, your taste buds won't be disappointed. And never ever forget your sauces. We ordered takeout from Torchy's after having a huge craving for the Democrat barbacoa taco during shelter-in-place. Sadly, they had a limited menu at the time and weren't serving it, so I tried the Republican without cheese and added grilled onions and a crossroads without cheese. I'm allergic to dairy and couldn't find the ingredients for their sauces online, so I called and they let me know the dairy-free sauces are their tomatillo, roja, and diablo sauce. I liked my tacos and would definitely get them again, BUT I am really craving the shredded barbacoa. The online ordering process was very easy and great for customizations. They gave me an exact time to pick it up instead of a vague 10-20 minute waiting period. When I unwrapped our tacos at home, each taco seemed a little crushed and crumpled which was a little annoying because it mushed the tacos a bit. Their queso is hands down the best queso I have ever had. I think it's probably best in the entire world? Too dramatic? The guacamole is delicious too. Super creamy and addicting. I would personally recommend the Dirty Sanchez. They have a full bar with specials running daily. Parking is ample. If you don't like tacos, they also have a salad option and burritos to choose from. We ordered delivery thru their site last night...we paid...got a delivery time...but it never arrived!? We called a half hour after the delivery time given & they informed us that they don't deliver & it should've routed us to Doordash but it didn't! So just a heads up so this doesn't happen to you! We had to go pick it up. The food was pretty good. It tends to be on the spicy side so we ordered the queso without the Diablo sauce and it was excellent! I got the Wrangler & the democrat. The wrangler is a breakfast taco & it was very good...the brisket was perfect! The democrat has barbacoa and 95% of it was so fatty, gelatinous & chewy I couldn't eat any if the meat! I've been to the location in Austin, Southlake and Fort Worth, so the Irving one was a first for me. I've pretty much tried most of the tacos on the menu and it's been a long time so for lunch I had the Democrat and the Republican along with a drink and chips and queso. Price sure added up and a little too much food for lunch. Oh well. The Republican wasn't quite what I remembered and was pretty big. Definitely not bad at all, just too filling. The Democrat is their staple taco that everyone should try the first visit. Tacos are amazing here. Next time I go here I may get the chicken Brushfire and the fish taco Mr. Pink which are both exceptional. *Edit: I just saw the menu and it has changed. Apparently Mr. Pink isn't available anymore.
