I am not a fan of these tacos. I ordered online the other day because I needed a gluten free option. The tacos just don't have flavor. I walked in to get my order wasn't busy which was a plus. The lady however couldn't find my order even though I was like the only one there. She kept asking if I mistook what a store I was at. I pulled up my order and she was like oh I mistyped your name. I'm not sure why my name on my order wasn't the same as how I emerged entered it on the online system but she finally.located it. I. Got the migas and a bacon egg and cheese. When you're a long term austinite and have loved torchys forever, but keep getting disappointed. We have had many poor experiences with this location as well as the 79 location in round rock. Consistently long wait times, not answering phone or text for pick up, and today we had to leave without getting food or response. Just seems poorly run. We ordered curbside, said it would be ready in 15 minutes. When we texted upon arrival they said to call or come on. We went in to a line out the door, most people not socially distanced or wearing masks. We called and sat on hold for 10 minutes. No answer and decided to leave at 40 minutes since order. read more

(Not rating against taco places / mom and pop places that have far more limited locations). Torches is cobsistently good and high quality with friendly staff. Always good. can't go wrong with torchys! this location has a great patio that they do allow dogs on although it does suck that it is right along 35 which can get a little loud. there is tons of seating and a full bar. they can move a little slow when busy but food is always consistent and their paloma's are delicious while you wait. the food is a little pricey for torchys being a chain but they always have a fun taco of the month. read more

Forgot the onions on my taco, wouldn't let me substitute chimichurri sauce for avocado sauce, and the woman working at the front wasn't properly wearing her mask...just pushed it down below her lips and only covered her chin. Weird and despite not covering her mouth still wouldn't talk clearly when I asked questions and I had to ask her to repeat herself multiple times. The tacos were okay, but overall I don't think I would spend the money to come back ($17 for three) or the time since it took 30 min to get the to-go order after I placed it...I definitely like other Austin eateries more. read more

Any time I can stop by at torchy's for lunch I do it. Are used to love their shrimp tacos but I would get indigestion afterwards. I've switched over to the Mr. orange since it suits my sensitive tummy better. I always go for the queso. It is spot on some of the best I've ever had and it's vegan which is rare for a vegan queso to taste as good. As a pescatarian, I only eat seafood so it's great that they have multiple options. They're always quick in and out as well so I never have to wait around for my torches fix. read more

Torchys is great. My only little concern is that I wish they served fresh made corn tortillas. The ones they serve seems very store bought. I expected some real fresh made in house. But oh well. We stopped in tonight for dinner. We're told to go right for dine in, and decided to order Togo. We went back to the front and were told to go back through the line to order to go (not what they said, but ok). After ordering, the staff was loudly talking about us after because we were confused on where to place our to go order. Funny enough, people who came in after us wanted to order to go and were allowed to order back at the front, soooo...maybe it's more of a staff problem? Then it took 45 minutes for them to get our food. This is the only Torchy's I've had an issue like this at. I had heard a lot about Torchy's so when I was heading to Austin for business I new I had to carve out some time to stop by. I was not disappointed! It's definitely not a traditional taco spot (more of a taco fusion) and even though something like this can end up gimmicky Torchy's does not. They definitely pulled it off. I had the Democrat and the Republican and while I'm not a fan of the political parties, I'm a big fan of the tacos! To top it off, their queso dip has a big scoop of guac in the middle. I couldn't get a hold of the other location so I asked this location to notify them and cancel or transfer the order. They said that would be no problem. I was very pleased with my first experience at Torchy's Tacos! A huge group of us went for my friend's birthday and I was thankful that they had accommodations for all of us. We sat outside and all 16 of us fit in one large bench. It was fairly hot outside, but the area was nice and they had a tv showing the US Open. I wasn't super hungry so I shared the Green Chile Queso + Chips which was delicious! I loved how smooth and spicy the queso was and it didn't get cold and clumpy like some places. The chips are slightly greasy, but still good. With the chips it did get salty towards the end, but I would definitely order it again. I also didn't know that you could get more chips brought out, which was definitely needed for all that Queso! It could easily be shared amongst 4-6 people. read more

I have eaten at Fuzzy's Tacos and wanted to give Torchy's a try. I ordered the chips and queso and the taco of the month, the Mr. Miyagi. I figured since was the special it would be really good. The line to order was relatively long, so I thought I was in for a treat. I was wrong. The best part of the meal was the chips. The queso did not taste like it was made in-house. It was spicy, but mediocre. For almost $7 bucks it should be awesome. I can get better queso at my local mom and pop Tex-Mex joint. Now let's talk about the taco. The word taco is in the name of the restaurant, that means they are the specialty. This taco had the most bland piece of fish I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The sesame seeds weren't even toasted, so I couldn't even taste them. There was no salt anywhere in the dish. The wasabi sour cream didn't even taste like wasabi, however, there was so little on the taco it would have been hard to taste it even if it did. The mango slaw was neither sweet, spicy, or vinegary, if you call less than a teaspoon of veggies a slaw, that is. It was one of the worst tacos I have eaten in my life as a native Texan. Even the fried wontons were bland. The Mr. Miyagi is a bland, tasteless insult to tacos everywhere. Avoid it at all cost. I will not be returning to Torchy's. read more

We had our first bad experience at Torchy's today. The bar tender was very rude to me and my daughters for no reason at all. She asked for my ID I told her it was in the car but I was not drinking alcohol just wanted to watch the game . My first Torchy's Tacos experience, and it was delicious! I ordered the Chicken Fajita taco with extra cheese. It was brought out with no cheese, but before I even looked at it the waitress realized the mistake and brought it to the back to add cheese. This taco was heavenly!! I have eaten here 3-4 times since they opened. I was there this morning for breakfast. Sunday 2-2-2020. This location never seems to have the number of diners some of their other locations do. The order line was especially slow, given there were only a couple of diners ahead of us. Their ice machine was out of ice and that caused some issues while staff brought a bucket of ice to the register to "dole out" ice as they took the order. I always get their Crossroads Taco which is brisket, cheese, jalapeno peppers (not too hot), and a generous slice of avocado. I ordered two of them this morning. The portions were generous and ingredients fresh. I had mine on a flour tortilla, but they will serve them in a bowl if you want to avoid the carbs in the tortillas. I have been patronizing Torchy's for many years and in multiple locations. This location which has been open since about July is better than the Palm Valley location but not as good as the Mueller store. read more

I am currently sitting in this location. The food was AMAZING i got two brushfire tacos and they were delicious! The staff that took my order was sweet, friendly, and inviting along with the server that brought me my order. A gentleman even picked up my plate for me once I was done eating!! The ONLY issue I had with this location was the actual manager. She is an older lady with short hair and glasses. She was very cold to everyone came in contact with including her staff. She was asked to come to the register twice and both times she neither smiled nor greeted guest. There was a gentleman whom came in after I did and she stood right in front of him without saying "excuse me". She gave the cashier her card and walked away once she was done using it. The manager definitely brought out negative vibes from both the customers and the employees. I ordered delivery through the Torchy's website and had some trouble with door dash and never received my order. After trying to contact door dash I was told to contact the restaurant. This was a tad bit frustrating, since I know that they didn't have my money, door dash did, but I tried anyway. Thomas, the GM was sweet and was as helpful as he could be. This is a great spot for all! We often sit at the bar for a couple drinks and enjoy chips and queso. My favorite taco is the chicken fajita and sometimes get it in the bowl. The taco with salmon is always way too salty and have tried it multiple times hoping it's just he cook, but it's not. This was my favorite neighborhood taco spot before COVID. They stopped making the Tipsy Chick taco after COVID and broke my heart. That taco was exceptional. I love the Hillbilly Queso, but not enough to wait in line for. I've tried other taco offerings from Torchy's, but nothing compares to the Tipsy Chick.
