Visiting family in Waco and wanted to try something we don't have in Cali. Stand in line and order from the counter and they bring you your food and drink. We started with the queso since they were out of guacamole and it was wonderful. Nice amount of heat/spice and the chips were great, not too thick, not too thin, warm with a good crunch. I had the carnitas on corn tortillas. I like the tomatillo sauce and the pork was not greasy. Didn't love my corn tortilla but they make em different in California. My sister chose flour and liked hers. My favorite was the Midnight Cowboy, taco of the month. Super tasty! We also had the $3.50 sangria that they serve on Saturday and Sunday. Very refreshing! Ordered and found a seat pretty quick although fairly busy. Green Chile pork, chicken fajita, and shrimp tacos were all full of stuff and great...nice flavor and fresh. I used to enjoy going to Torchy's in Waco (off 35, near University), but my last few visits were not good. The last time it took the bartender about 5 minutes to even acknowledge me, but was fairly attentive after that. The tacos, which I took home for my wife and I, were very greasy. So, I was passing through Waco today and decided to try again. This time, I was sitting at bar for about 10 minutes and no one even acknowledged me. There was a bartender and someone she appeared to be training. I sat there, thinking if they were busy they could at least acknowledge me (I was in no hurry). They didn't, so I left. stopped at torchy's in Waco for breakfast. I tried the egg bacon cheese taco and my husband tried the chorizo and egg taco. Prices were only 395 each being a great price. the food tasted like it had been prepared using old cooking oil, and we decided not to eat because of the taste. We didn't complain just ask to check out. Well they checked us out and added 440.00 dollar tip on our bill. torchy's refused to refund to the bank and my husband had to go to waco from fort worth to take care of this. Then he was told nothing was wrong that it was a tip he had left and nothing could be done. my husband told them he was calling the police and file charges and then the manager agreed to take care of it. we did not fill in a tip amount and left a tip on table so the employee at TORCHY"S is the one that filled out the tip and the one to add it to the credit card read more

It pains me to write this but this is the absolute worst Torchy's experience I have ever had and I LOVE me some Torchy's. I was excited to see there was one near the hotel but I'll never visit this location again. My order was simple, only change was no onions. 1st time they came out with a load of onion. Sent them back, next time they came out with 4-5 little shrimp, on flour (they come on corn and I asked for corn), no slaw, just shrimp and cilantro- no cheese. It was pitiful. The pork carnitas was fine but no poblano sauce I requested and paid for. Also no street corn I ordered. So the manger walked by and asked if I was still waiting for food, I said yes and politely asked about the tortillas- he said they ran out of corn tortillas????? The manager was nice but this place is a shit show. I had to ask for the street corn. When it finally came, No cojita cheese no cilantro just a bowl of corn. While waiting for my order I saw at least 3 other orders messed up. There was also a woman, I assume an employee, carrying her infant child in and out of the kitchen . I guess she was making something up for them but it seemed kinda gross, not very sanitary and it also explains that the kitchen isn't functioning very smoothly. As I'm typing this another customer is complaining about missing ingredients on his tacos. Really a disappointment. I love Torchy's just not this one. Nice place, great ambiance and it's clean. Food is tasty in a pedestrian sort of way and the staff is attentive and friendly; must be from Baylor! Downside? The faux soft drinks. Businesses who serve these will say, "oh, our customers seem to like them!" No...no, not really. They're 'adequate' but not necessarily good. Well it turns out it they never refunded it to his card after multiple phone calls and follow up communication, even with the receipt in hand. Bums me out to write this review. Love Torchys brand, whenever we're out here it's a few times a week staple. But as a former bar manager myself, 1. don't offer to sell mixed drinks if you don't have a bartender to make it. 2. Don't tell me you're out of limes juice if I'm staring at a giant stack of limes. You're not out of juice, you're out of willpower. 3. If you're going to staff like you just re-opened don't tell people you've been open a week. 4. If you don't have a bartender, stop up selling mixed drinks (happened to customers after me) 5. Offer another drink. 30 min is too long to ignore the problem, or be looking for lime juice. 6. Give the girl that actually inquired and helped solve the problem the manager role. (She's the reason y'all get an extra star) read more

I am a longtime fan of Torchy's and I will be until the day I die. I live in California but spend a significant amount of time in Texas, no matter the length of my trip to Texas I will make ATLEAST one trip to Torchy's. You order at the counter and within 5-10 minutes your order is delivered to your table. The tables are cleaned and turned over quickly and they even have a covered porch outside if the weather is nice. Everybody that works here has been kind, and I've never had my order done incorrectly, they are consistently amazing through and through. My go-to is a Trashy Trailer Park taco; fried chicken taco topped with queso, melted cheddar cheese, pico de gallo and a creamy poblano sauce on a flour tortilla, its freaking phenomenal. Also, it's a rule when visiting Texas from out of state you must order and eat Chips & Queso wherever it is offered, especially here at Torchy's because it's dynamite. Creamy, spicy, perfectly seasoned, and drizzled with their own Diablo Hot Sauce, it's just delicious. GUAC, how could I forget about their guacamole? What they do to these avocados to make their guacamole so full of umami, I have no idea, but it is LITERAL perfection. I've had their Wrangler & Migas Breakfast tacos, Baja Shrimp taco, Green Chile Pork, and the Republican and they are all delicious. I made a yelp because I never leave reviews but this was possibly my worst ever experience in fast food. I ordered just a chips and queso to go. I walked in and I smelled...weed? I use to work at a highschool so I'm familiar with the smell. I'm unsure if its maybe the food? But it smelled interesting. I was waiting at the to go section and who i presume to be the manager was doing "busy work" as they call it. Looking busy without really doing anything. I cleared my throat and she looked up and said "Yes...?" I asked if they had a pick up order and she just kinda walked off? Then another worker came up and said it would be a 20 minute wait? I love this place. My husband and I were trying to go eat pretty late after coming back from a trip to see my family and we did not want fast food (as in quick, greasy, frozen). The original place we wanted to go was closed so I thought of Torchy's. It was delicious. Fresh and hot. The restaurant was also very clean, which was refreshing especially after being out camping. My husband got the taco of the month, "Scalywag" and said he liked it. We both got a Democrat which I hadn't gotten before but tasted pretty good and my usual which is a Mr. Pink. Ugh, Torchy never fails! I go to one in Waco now but even the one in Houston is delicious. The people are friendly there too (at this location at least). The staff was all extremely nice and patient as I read through the menu, all the tacos sound so good, and the two I had (The Green Chile Pork and the Democrat) were delicious! They were also super full and came with an extra tortilla, which is very helpful. The quest is also fantastic, with just a little kick, but they can make it much spicier if you're into that. I was going to eat at the food trucks but I really just desperately wanted air conditioning and this place caught my eye. I got the carnitas taco and the fried shrimp taco and the Mexican Street corn. The fried shrimp was easily one of the best tacos I've ever had. It was full of spice and flavor and absolutely delicious. The pork one was pretty good. Very disappointing experience. My order was incorrect and on top of that, there was a sticker from the vegetables IN MY food! I sent it back and instead of quickly remaking it I waited more than 10 minutes while my husband ate and finished his food. I got the remake and I think there were 3 thin pieces of peppers and 6 thin pieces of chicken.... glad I wasn't too hungry! I hadn't been to this torchys since it's grand opening years ago when I was in town visiting a friend. Thought I'd go in, get some breakfast tacos, and some damn food queso, only to find out it was damn dirty. Took one bite of the two tacos I got and immediately wanted to stop eating. Im not going to go naming everything one by one why it was gross, but I will say for anyone reading. Don't. Just don't. Go somewhere else that hopefully is cleaner, and running a tighter ship.
