Awesome sushi, three of us order multiple rolls, nigiri, and traditional rolls. Presentation, quantity, and quality were first rate! Sake selection was top notch and cocktails were on point. The night we dined (10/13) there was a disruptive, obnoxious customer complaining loudly with many expletives about a disputed $2.00 charge. Chef defended his staff and shut the customer down, needless to say, that customer will never be allowed back! Overall a great experience despite the nasty customer, would recommend to anyone who appreciates fresh, perfectly prepared sushi. read more

My wife and I sat at the sushi counter and watched the three chefs prepare a wide variety of food. They were fast and super clean. Every dish they put out was well presented, especially the Sushi. So good i teared up a little while eating, my boyfriend said to me "is it bad i'm full but i want more" after we finished. Left us satisfied been looking for a good sushi place as good as some of the places in portland and this is it. Also idk if their sauce for their calamari is a special soy sauce??? Or if they mixed it with unagi sauce, but i was literally licking it off my fingers and plate and i usually hate soy sauce lol! This spot was overall a no go for me. Though service was great the food made me feel awful afterwards. I saw the food on a cart that was next to the kitchen and saw waitress touch the food on accident and do nothing . There were also dirty rags right next to the food and it just didn't feel sanitary. My first visit here was quite terrible. I came on my hour long lunch break thinking it would be plenty of time as I only wanted very simple menu items and my place of work is about 2 mins away. Service was incredibly slow. There was only two other tables at the time, with a total of about 4 people. When I finally made my order, the server came back to inform me that they were "out of" almost every ingredient required for the dishes I ordered. So I completely changed my order. She came back a second time to inform me that I couldn't order that either. So I settled for something and waited... And waited. (I think you get the gist here). I ran out of water and was never given a refill (and I was eating a spicy dish). I had to get up and practically chase down the waitress to get my check, same scenario with paying. I almost ended up being late for work by the time it was all done. My second visit, I sat right at the bar this time in hopes that I wouldn't be ignored. Had to beg for a menu. Food was slow. BUT it took an entire hour to get our 4 rolls we ordered and the place wasn't even busy. And when I got my rolls they were only 5 pieces, they looked more like half rolls than full ones. If it were possible to give 0 stars, I would. If you asked me yesterday, i would have given 5. My friend and I dined at toro yesterday. Had wonderful food, wonderful service, and left feeling satisfied. Today, being so delighted about our experience the day before, went to place and order for take out. Upon arrival, we waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged. My friend's boyfriend then placed our order. Paid $100 cash, as the total was around $86 and he left the rest as a tip. They said the wait would be 30 minutes, which is standard. So we left to take my friend's boyfriend to work, and came back for our food after that. Again upon arrival, we were not acknowledged for 20 minutes. When we were, they asked us if we needed "seated". We said no... that we had just been there and placed a take out order and we're there to pick it up. At that point it had been almost an hour, plenty of time past when were told to return. The employees then begin to say that we had already returned to pick up our order... to which we obviously said no we did not, we paid, left, and came back to pick it up 30 minutes later. They kept insisting that the "dude that was with us" (my friend's boyfriend), picked it up already. This went on for a few minutes, of them just accusing us saying that we already picked it up. They obviously gave it to the wrong person. They never once apologized for the inconvenience, and they never offered to remake our food. At this point I asked for our money back, because we needed to leave and nothing was going to happen in our benefit. The employee was extremely rude and shortly answered "OK". When I asked for the money. They were never willing to make our food for US, who paid the $100 for it, and gave it to the wrong people. So then, he proceeds to give us the $86 and change, and we are like no we need $100, that is what we gave and tipped but we did not receive the food we paid for so we want all of our money back?.... it even said on the receipt that the tendered amount was $100. Finally gave us the $100 back, we left and that was it. I do not live in the area, but friend frequents this place quite often, and she will not be returning. Very, VERY disappointing experience. If there is coaching in place for employees at this facility, all employees on the clock may 19th at 12:30-1:30 need coached on customer service. Myself, my friend and her boyfriend all work in the serving industry and this experience would NEVER have happened in any of our places of work. No matter how slammed with work you are or not. This may be long, haha. We've had a rough year, moving across state, house hunting, settling in. It seems like everything so far has been 1 step forward, 5 steps back. We had tried a few other sushi places but they were really disappointing, and that can get discouraging when you're working hard to save your money, and need to treat yourself. I saw the reviews for this place and figured it was our last shot to find decent sushi in the Spokane area. We were seated very quickly, the servers are extremely nice, and very efficient, the atmosphere is great. Not too loud, so you have to practically yell at your company, but not so quiet you feel you have to whisper to maintain a private conversation. Our drinks came fast, we ordered an appetizer, the Calamari, and it was The Best calamari I have ever had. We loved it, and the sauce that came with. Then we ordered the sushi: a hurricane roll, the Marilyn Mon'roll, the crunch roll, a philly roll, one more roll I can't put a name to. Every roll was AMAZING. just perfect. I don't know if it was just being overwhelmed with pleasantness but I seriously had tears in my eyes, fighting off crying in public because we finally found delicious sushi. We finally found our place. I will happily recommend this place to anybody looking for great sushi. After experiencing what we did, I'm not sure we could find anywhere else to top it. read more

Our go-to sushi restaurant in the Spokane area. I grew up in the Puget Sound and lived for 5 years in the San Francisco Bay Area so I was somewhat spoiled when it came to fresh seafood and sushi and until Toro opened I had yet to find a sushi restaurant in the Spokane area that came close to what I expect from a top notch sushi restaurant. All of Toro's ingredients are very fresh and presented very professionally. There has been zero "fishy" smell to anything I have ordered and they have a pretty large selection of rolls and Japanese/Asian cuisine. read more

I have seen the issue I experienced pop up for 6 months. They refuse to take to go orders if they feel busy. I tried to call but they weren't even answering their phones. This was a little after 5 on Saturday. I drove down and said I'd like get an order to go and they said they weren't taking to go orders (which I'd gotten many times before). The owner Kato was extremely dismissive. I WAS a huge fan, but the place has completely gone downhill. So sad. read more

Formerly Avocado Asian Buffet, I was hesitant to try out their new sushi joint that moved in there. I loved going to Avocado so I decided to try Toro Sushi. The service was great, fast and friendly. The food was delicious and made to perfection. The price is a little high, especially for teriyaki chicken and rice but I would pay that again just to experience the taste and customer service. read more

It has taken over a year to find a sushi restaurant worth yelping about. Finally, I have one. I had the most fresh and delicious dinner tonight with excellent service at Toro Sushi in the Valley. How do I judge a sushi restauarant? #1: The Smell - there is none when you walk in, and that is exactly how it should be. Believe me, and my poor GI tract. Never make the mistake of ignoring an off-putting odor when walking into a sushi restaurant. #2: The Freshness of the fish - It was so delicious! Does it taste fishy, is the color of the sashimi off a bit, did I get raging diarrhea? Then it is not fresh. #3: The Service - Amazing customer service. They even noticed when my kiddos dropped a straw or a chopstick. It was replaced promptly without asking. You know how in some restaurants the wait staff act like prima donnas and that you should be lucky to have them? Not here. Here their job is to clearly take care of the customer. Bravo management. Job well done! We finally have a "go-to" for our sushi needs! read more

Now that I've moved to Spokane & dont get opportunity to go to Syringa's in Cda as much anymore, I decided last week to set out on a quest to find the best sushi place now near me. Aside from posting photos at the 3 other locations I have tried, I haven't taken the time to write a review yet until now. Frankly, I find myself writing enough papers for school that I have a lack of motivation to write something else at the end of the day. However, my taste buds & I just enjoyed ourselves thoroughly enough at Toro Sushi, that here I am, wanting to tell you about this place. From the first hello (in Japanese) that greeted me as I walked in by all the staff, to the bow, goodbye & thank you wished to me as I departed, I already find myself looking at my calendar to see when I can return again. The decor was high-end modern & reminded me of the fine sushi restaurants I just visited in Vegas last weekend. The waitress was a huge help & knowledgable with the questions I threw at her. I unexpectly was served a small salad & bowl of miso shortly after taking a seat. I hadn't been aware that the meal came with this without purchasing as a side. As I mentioned in the photo I posted of these sides, the salad dressing probably just took a spot on my top favorites. I asked the waitress what it was & she informed me that the chef won't even let her know what in it, as it is a secret in house recipe. She said there were some fruits in it - which normally im not a huge fan of in dressings, but this creamy vinaigrette with its sweet & acidic nature was the perfect compilation that equated to perfection in my book. Now, the miso left little to be desired as well. I could tell that something, something I couldbt quite put my finger on, was in it to give it just that hint of 'this has set itself above the many other miso's I've enjoyed over the years'. It was quite delicious and, along with the salad, left my tummy grumbling for whateber I would get to experience next. Then came my rolls. I was shooting for healthy tonight, so reluctantly chose to stay away from tempura & crunch rolls. I ordered some simple rolls that would be hard to mess up, but still, I was satisfied with how fresh the spicy tuna, salmon & avocado all was. Presentation was beautiful & I'm a fan of their dishware too. All in all, I will be back. Im delightfully full, yet already craving my next trip back with other rolls in mind that im anxious to order. :) read more

Had the lunch bento box with pork katsu. Pork katsu was great, but it could have used a little more sauce. The tempura was the star of the show. Really fresh and perfect in terms of size, taste, and texture. Not a huge fan of california rolls with imitation crab but the ones here were good. I was impressed with the quality of rice and I'm excited to come back and try some of their sushi. read more

First off I was pleased with the sushi. The pricing did feel a bit steep and I left feeling a little let down by the service. My waitress was less then social and I witnessed that of the male waiter that was working as well. So I'm in Spokane Valley visiting my parents and I stumbled upon this place that's just opened up a few days ago. We started off with quality miso and a decent sesame-dressing salad, noteworthy in that these two appetizers are simple but often messed up. Salmon sashimi was fresh and tender, melts-in-your-mouth-style fish. We shared crunch rolls and California rolls, both well done, crispy tempura, fresh cucumbers and creamy imi-crab mix. The portions were generous and not over-rolled with rice, with the crowning jewel of the evening being the spicy tuna. Rich red fish, in a perfect blend of savory and spice. My friend and I have been on a search for a good sushi place in the valley, we have finally found it! This would get a 5 star review except it was lacking in the service dept a bit. Our server only had a few other tables but took forever to bring us a drink menu, take our order, and then never checked in on once but had someone else bring us our check when we wanted to order more. There sushi is awesome so I would probably go back and just deal with the less than great service. Hopefully it gets better with time! read more

I have been going to Toro Sushi since it first opened. However, comparing it to how it was and how it is now is quite depressing. The last time I went (about three months ago), they had a different waitress and I don't know if it was just because of the timing or what, but she was horrendously slow. There were many people who were waiting to be serviced and she was just overloaded. It took us close to 45 minutes to get our food, when normally it'd only take 15 minutes tops. In addition, they've definitely changed the menu over the last year. From changing the lunch roll combos (they used to be served with salad AND miso, but now they only have miso with them), to increasing the price....it's just not worth it. Toro used to be my favorite place to eat sushi (and I will say that the flavor in their rolls is great!), but because of the decline in service and quality, I'm not sure if I'll ever go there again :( read more
