I came in yesterday to pick up a dozen chew cookies. The girl with the glasses that helped me wasn't really friendly. She didn't really want to box them when I told her I wanted them in a box, and was very bland even though it wasn't busy. No big deal though. But after I paid for a dozen and left, I checked in the car and saw she only gave me 10. WTF. I know this place sells by the pound but on the receipt it says 1 dozen cookies for $12. I came in to inform her of her error and she just said "let me give you two more." No "I'm sorry," surprise, or embarrassment on her part. Just oh, let me just give you 2 free cookies, which makes me think she might have done it on purpose or this is something she may be doing regularly. I've been here once before and my service was fine, and the manager I spoke to on the phone afterwards apologized. But this employee needs to be reprimanded and retrained. read more

This is my second time around with Torrance Bakery and it was even better! I ordered online sight unseen for my parents' anniversary and it was gorgeous! Tasted amazing too! Yesterday I walked into the Gardena Torrance bakery, it was my first time going into this location since I usually go to Torrance. However, the Gardena location was better for me since it's near Artesia and it was walking distance to where I was having my lunch. I was greeted by the staff upon arrival and Lulu gave me the best customer service and gave great recommendations since I wanted to try something new. Torrance Bakery in Gardena totally messed up on my order. I ordered a yellow cake with double layer chocolate fudge icing. I placed the order 3 weeks in advance.. They gave me a white cake with white icing and a chocolate inside layer.. Can you say yuck! Plus the cake tasted stale. The person in charge had the attitude of "well theres nothing I can do about it" " take it or leave it". I had no choice but to take the cake because I was pressed for time. *Don't go here!* My nonfictional tale: I needed a birthday cake TODAY specifically for someone's birthday. There was a groupon for Torrance Bakery today, which means you buy the groupon for $X and get a certificate worth something more than $X for use at the store. I called Torrance Bakery in the morning (BEFORE buying the groupon) and asked if I purchase this groupon, can I use it today, the same day, to buy a cake. They told me I could. So I got a $20 groupon. After work I call in and tell them Ive got a cake on hold and my groupon and coming in to get it. Then they tell me I can't use that groupon today, it's only good tomorrow. I told them I called in in the morning *specifically* asking if it was good today and would not have purchased the groupon AT ALL or gone to their store AT ALL had they said so in the first place. I spoke to the manager and explained the same thing, and she said there was nothing she could do it wouldn't be good until tomorrow. She barely apologized and offered nothing, not even best wishes with their business in the future when I would be forced to use this groupon. Taking a step back, I wonder if they told me the groupon would be good today just to force me to buy their product, knowing full well it would not be good until tomorrow or later. Bottom line, don't spend your money here. Who knows what else they'll knowingly or unknowingly tell you that is incorrect. Whatever it is, you'll probably end up short some cash. read more

I ordered WHITE cupcakes for my daughters engagement party over the phone a whole week ahead. I get there and no one can seem to find my order. Then after 40 minutes of watching them mill around trying to find them, the " manager" or who ever she was came to the counter and says theres been a mistake because no one can find them. Torrance Bakery is well known for their great pastries and the other location in downtown Torrance serves sandwiches as well but haven't been to this spot. Planned to bring cornbread to work and first stopped at Marie C. to see what they charge for a full size pan but it wasn't in my budget. Then stopped here but sadly their display case didn't include cornbread but they had some nice pastries but passed on getting anything. Not the ones that are sold separately, but the mini chocolate chip cookies with nuts. Unfortunately, I will eat the entire bag in one sitting, so I can't go as often as I would like. Cupcakes are too too sweet. You can probably find less sweet ones at a regular supermarket. It's cheaper than other bakeries --- each cupcake is $1.25-$1.50. However, I did enjoy their ooey gooey chocolate chip nut cookie. YUMMY! Now time to dilute myself. read more

Just left the bakery! It was my first time here after discovering it on yelp. The place was empty but the young lady behind the counter was very helpful. I needed a cake for a birthday occassion and she was very honest about what cakes were too rich and which cakes were just right. I ended up with their famous ding dong style cake (fudge,graham cracker, and whipped cream middle). It looked pretty tasty! She also added some pretty writing and did it all with a smile. I picked up a few other goodies while I was there including a cronut, lemon bar, chocolate chew cookie and the red velvet cookies. The chocolate chew was my fave and despite what I read in the other reviews, they did have alot of flavor and did not taste bland at all. Overall it was a great first time experience!
