I was sold, hook, line & salsa after my first time at Tortilla Real. But this review is not based on the first time but the subsequent times I've eaten their delicious food! The 2nd time I came here was on Saturday 06/19/21 with 3 friends and my daughter. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and a passion fruit mimosa plus split the chips & salsa with my daughter who order Chilaquiles Divorciados, which she wouldn't allow me to take a picture it. She said her Chilaquiles was delicious. My Huevos Rancheros were sooooo delicious!! Some of the best I've ever had! The passion fruit mimosa was very refreshing. And speaking of fresh, the fresh house made tortillas & salsa were to die for. Then on Aug 19th I was craving Mexican food for a late lunch at work & I saw that Tortilla Real was on Door Dash so I ordered through DD. To DD's credit they delivered very quickly, I think it was 20 or 25 minutes after I placed my order. Food arrived at the perfect temperature, the restaurant even followed the instruction I put down in DD my order which was to put the sour cream on the side instead of the food. I ordered chips & guacamole, aqua fresca and Flautas de Pollo with sour cream on the side. The Flautas de Pollo had the perfect crunch to them and that's with coming via a delivery service. Everything was perfect and delicious! Not only does this restaurant have great authentic Mexican food but they also offer vegetarian and gluten free options. There's something for everyone. The downside is it's a small parking lot that is shared with other businesses and restaurants. On the upside, there is street parking as well as a parking garage on the corner of 2nd & C Street and it's just a very short walk to Tortilla Real. There's plenty of seating inside as well as covered outdoor seating. This is definitely my new favorite restaurant! read more

Started off with the homemade chips and guacamole, half with what looked to me to be Queso Fresco, and the other half with tomatoes and a spicy sauce. Pros: seated right away, service was fast, birria quesadilla was good and so were the chips and salsa. Cons: my enchiladas were barely Luke warm and quite bland. The display was beautiful and on sight, you would think that you'd get lots of flavor, but everything was lacking. The steak burrito was also dry and in need of seasoning. read more

This place is terrible. Probably the worst restaurant in Petaluma. I only come here because my brother-in-law likes it for some reason. However, this past visit I found some plastic in my burrito so I thought I would finally share my thoughts. I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews. With so many better options for similar cuisine in Petaluma it baffles me. Their cooking is incredibly low effort, which leads to a bland, tasteless experience every time. When the (apologetic) waitress brought me my replacement meal, enchiladas, after the plastic incident I mentioned, I was even more upset. The sauce was so watery I could see my sad reflection when looking at the plate. I hope you find my review so you can save yourself some money (dang, food is expensive right?) and disappointment. Visit somewhere else for similar cuisine or even better cook it yourself if you have the time. You will put more love into your own cooking than this restaurant will. read more

Looking for quick meal. Found ourself near the waterfront. Was concerned we would only find tourist food. Then, with the help of Yelp we found Tortilla Real. I had the 3-taco special. 2 carnitas and one asada. Bar to had the chicken tortilla soup. Her soup was amazing. Large, good spice, lots of chicken. We are outside. Clean and comfortable. The fish tacos are excellent! They are served a la carte, but I ordered one fish and one shrimp. The size and sauce is just right. The salsa that comes with the chips is a bit spicy, but this is pretty authentic Mexican food. Be aware that their Margaritas are made with "sake infused tequila" because they don't have a full liquor license. It's a refreshing drink, but it's not quite a margarita without the tequila. read more

We have eaten here and gotten food delivered from here very regularly because the food quality is consistently great and the owners/servers provide wonderful service! The restaurant space is nice as well, and they have a nice little outdoor space with heaters. Standouts for me on the menu are the fish tacos, the shrimp tacos, their chicken mole plate, the veggie or chicken tinga burrito, their quesabirria appetizer, enchiladas, the chilaquiles on the weekend brunch menu. We started off with a sake margarita infused with tequila (I think this is how it went) which we were hesitant about at first, but the server highly recommended it and it did not disappoint! It was very refreshing and tasted just like a margarita, except not too sweet. We then got the bean dip, taco plate, and tacos dorados. To be honest, the tacos were pretty average at best, but the bean dip and drinks were great. Truly the WORST Mexican food I've had in a long time. We came in on a slow Thursday evening when the restaurant was hardly busy, there was a hostess on lunch, and one waiter manning the phones and take out orders. That should've been red flag #1 because it took him about 10 mins to notice us and get seated. Red flag #2 was that other tables that arrived after us started to get their drinks and later their appetizers before we even got our drink order in. Red flag #3 was the food itself. I know Petaluma is likely full of folks who might have a lower tolerance for spice, but that shouldn't be an excuse to serve lukewarm flavorless food. I saw this place awhile back & thought, another Mexican restaurant, just what Petaluma needs, ha! Fast forward a year later, Another restaurant owner that I respect recommended the tacos. So off we go. Christian our waiter was absolutely charming, inviting, funny & kind. We started with guacamole & chips. A very nice portion, I only wish the thinly sliced chips(very addicting) were heated and they offered an additional spicy (homemade) sauce too. We ordered a salad with carne asada added. It comes in 2 sizes, the dressing was lite and tasty. The 2 tacos ordered came on 6" diameter in house made corn tortillas, 1 was carnitas, a nice portion of meat and a fish taco that was very delicious(my favorite) & a good portion as well. Their prices are higher than a popular food truck but their meat portion is larger and they have a store front. They have various beverages including Mexican wine. The pour was pretty small. Next time I'll order a beer. They might offer a house carafe of wine or a Sangria. They do offer some exotic drinks but they seemed like a meal in itself. Now for dessert, we ordered Flan to share. It's a good size but it's not like the classic Mexican Flan I was expecting. It's in a bowl with a burnt crust on top( it shouldn't be so burnt nor pre-burnt) the texture was good but I like the classic way. The restaurant is good, it's lighter fare than all the other Mexican restaurants in town or nearby. They have an opportunity to stand out amongst the others, their menu is intriguing, I hope they take the challenge on, because I'd like to recommend a restaurant that truly represents good Norcal Mexican food and service. I stopped in here for lunch on a Wednesday around 1:00. The place wasn't packed, but there were quite a few occupied tables. I sat at the counter and Axiri (the name on the receipt) was my delightful, full of smiles server. I asked if they had any wine from Mexico, I've always wanted to try Mexican wine, and she said yes and it was discounted wine Wednesday. She suggested I order a bottle and take what I didn't finish home. Good sales skills. Stopped by for dinner, and thankfully it was not packed. We decided to sit down outside in the patio, since the weather was nice, and the patio is super cute and refreshing, even during the summer heat. We quickly got served, and our server was nice. We ordered the Chile relleno plate and a steak burrito. I absolutely loved the meat from the burrito since it is wagyu steak, and you can definitely taste the flavor and tenderness of the steak. Service was slooooooow. We were one of two tables there in the mid-afternoon. Three people total between the two tables. We were greeted and seated quickly, asked for water to drink, and then waited about 10 minutes before we received the water or any interaction with our server. There was no apology for the wait. After our food was delivered (which happened reasonably quickly), our server never came back to check on us for about 15 minutes. As we were seated outside, it was not easy to see where our server was or gain her attention. Food was just fine. Chips were stale. Stayed the weekend in Petaluma and hit Tortilla Real on the way home for a quick bite. This place is the real deal! Luis was so warm and hospitable and the care and pride for the food they serve is truly felt. The ambiance is also very upscale and well thought out. For drinks we kept it NA and went with the limeade and aguas frescas - DELISH! We shared a salad and my wife had the soyrizo tacos and I had the BEST chilequles I've ever had in my life. We also grabbed some homemade tortillas to go and cannot wait to use them for dinner this week! In sf down the street from me there is a really good taqueria, but my 5 stars for them is really 6-7 out of 10 to be honest. I rarely come to petaluma, but i thank my lucky stars i went on to yelp and found tortilla real. This was THE best burrito i have had since cabo san lucas. I love little chihuahua in sf but this plays blows away any mexican ive had there. The cashier was really awesome as well. The owners of this new restaurant are super nice and really striving to cook good food with fresh ingredients. Tortilla Real has a variety of items on their menu - plenty for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans (just advise them you want vegan, they use vegetable bouillon in their cooking). Everything we had was packed with fresh vegetables and good flavors. We shared guacamole, salsa & chips and my husband had the vegetarian burrito and I had vegan tortilla soup. New spot in town that didn't disappoint. I'm a local and I've pretty much eaten at all the restaurants in town. While I'd say 90% of the restaurants in town are fantastic there are only a few I stay away from. I have my faves for sure and I have to admit, I have added Tortilla Real to my fave list. Although, the interior of Tortilla Real may be on the small size, the decor is traditional with a touch of a contemporary look that is inviting and joyful. The music is good too and it gets your feet moving and hips dancing a bit while waiting in line to place your order. I love the menu offering just the right number of dishes and the right number to choose from to enjoy a great meal. We tried the chicken tostadas, the fish tacos, and the chicken tacos. We Ali ordered the chips and salsa. The chicken tacos are to die for! So tasty and savory with hand-made fresh tortillas. The chicken tostadas are amaaazing as well with the perfect portion to enjoy. My husband tried the fish tacos and he was not disappointed at all. He mentioned the fish was nice and fresh and super tasty. He also loved the hand-made tortillas. We both loved the fresh made tortilla chips and the salsa that came with was to die for. I also ordered a Michelada and let me tell you that it tasted exactly similar to the ones I've tried in Mexico City! One sip, two sips, three sips and I was like "take me back to Mexico City now!," lol. The service is one of the best I've had in a while. I like to check reviews on Yelp then try new restaurants. This was a wonderful experience. I thought the food was very good and to my delight they had a special menu just for vegetarians. For me the atmosphere and the food are high on my list, but without good service it won't be somewhere I return. I wanted to make sure our server, Andrew, gets acknowledged for his five star service. I've been to fancy restaurants that didn't have a serve as good as Andrew. He was knowledgeable with the menu and had good recommendations. Andrew was attentive, but not intrusive. Made sure we had everything we needed and was such a personable young man. Kudos to the manager who hired a great waiter. Your business will thrive with service and food like this. read more
