The food was fantastic. The inside waitress was wonderful. The wait very long. The worst experience was the pregnant hostess does not know how to speak to customers. I got a text that my table was ready after an hour and when I asked her she said "it's going to be longer there are other people in front of your who take precedence. I have a suggestion- We are real busy and going to need a bit more time... your table will be ready soon ". Come for the views, live music, and maybe a drink or two. The food is extremely bland and not Mexican or Tex-Mex as everyone has already said. We ordered the queso dip with the chips and salsa we were given and we're lucky we did because the dip and salsa was needed for our meals. My friend got Jack's chimi and she couldn't take a bite to eat without slathering salsa on it. That's how tasteless it was. I had the bang bang shrimp tacos and ended up needing the salsa and queso for flavor since the bang bang sauce is just orange goop. I tasted the beans and decided they weren't even worth my time. First time here as we heard it was the best place on the island to go for food and drinks. All went well as our wife's checked in and had a coupe drinks, waiting on us on the golf course across the street. When we got done and set down at the outdoors table, the waiter a different one than our wife's had, finally shows up to take our drink orders after about 15 minutes. After ordering our drinks it was 20 minutes for our beer to be brought out to us and they arrived very warm. We sent them back and told the waiter we would like cold beer and oder our dinner when he returned. No idea why it took so long as the place was all but empty at 5:30 on a Friday afternoon. After waiting another 20 to 30 minutes for our beer we all decided to go if things didn't improve. After all we was not in a very big hurry to go. Our waiter returned with our beer again warm beer in a cold glass, we decided to call it quits and go. It took that waiter another 20 minutes to bring our bill. So we spent over an hour and half to have one warm beer and never to got to order our dinner. We will never go back to this place again. read more

The yelp rating is too low at three stars, so I am giving it five to bring it up. The fishbowl margarita is delicious and definitely big enough to share which helps mitigate the cost. My husband and I visited Jekyll Island during the busy season last summer and were seated outside. It was a fun atmosphere with live music, ocean breezes, and delicious cocktails. When we went as a family in March, the weather was cool so we were seated inside. The inside of the restaurant seemed dark and dirty and the food was just ok, a stark difference to when we had been in the busy season. This is a basically solid Tex-Mex place. Nothing we had was surprising or amazing but nothing was terrible. The Mahi Mahi tacos (fried) were decent. One tasty filet in each taco along with the standard lettuce tomato and cheese. It came with a decent spicy sauce in a plastic container so can titrate your sauce. I got soft corn shells but they really were kind of tasteless and didn't add much to the dish. Veggie fajitas were also solid. The drinks were surprisingly not that great. Margarita on the rocks with salt tasted kind of watery with not much flavor. The fact that it came in a plastic cup did not help. It looked like most people were getting the frozen kind and maybe they were better. The ambience was nice, you can sit outside under a kind of grass hut thing and it was breezy with nice greenery around. Very pleasant on a hot spring day. My rating is 3-3.5 stars for the food and 4 for the ambience sitting outdoors. If I had been indoors with same food I would have given 3 stars. The wait was 30 min for lunch around 1pm, par for the course for Jekyll, sadly. read more

Tortilla chips were fresh and hot, but tasted rubbery and were hard to eat. My companion had the steak tacos which she could not eat. We chose Tortuga Jack's because it is a dog friendly establishment. That is always a plus for us. We arrived about 1 pm and had to wait about 15 minutes for an outdoor table. Indoor seating would have been available immediately. But with dogs that wasn't an option, obviously. But outdoor seating is the preferred choice even for the dogless. There was a very good band playing in the outdoor area that added to a fun, comfortable environment. The staff was very accommodating and gave our two dogs lots of love. That was nice. However, once we were seated it took a considerable time for a waitress to arrive and take an order. And then it took a long time for drinks and chips to arrive. And then a bit more time than I would have expected for the food to appear considering that the lunch rush had really ended by the time we were seated. The food itself was pretty good, but not spectacular. I had the Big Boy Burrito and had to add hot sauce to give it a hint of spice. My wife had the Chicken Chimi and she said it had a hint of spice to it. But the portions were generous and well-presented. As Jekyll Island is mainly a tourist spot I would say that everything was adequate to keep folks from being disappointed. I give the overall experience 4 stars because of the great setting and great band. If you are looking for the best food in the area this might not be the place. read more

Whoever wrote bad reviews about this place had way too high of standards. I thought our food was pretty good and the drinks were relatively cheap(5$ for a margarita). Unless you want to spend way more at the hotel restaurants, you aren't going to get a devine culinary experience. The staff was super friendly and the view outside on the patio was a great bonus. Plus it's right next to the public beach so it's great for lunch. The only reason I gave it 4$ was because the beans they have as a side were kind of bland. Could use more spice. read more

This is a shame. The location is great. The bar is great. The service is great. The food is horrendous. I was at a conference and I ate here 3 times in 4 days. Everything was bad. It was like dog food and horse meat served on stale tortillas. This is a fixable issue. Simply hire a new kitchen staff from a real Mexican restaurant and replace everyone there. It would be better if they bought frozen Mexican freezer meals from Wal Mart and microwaved them. Come for a drink or the view, but don't come hungry. read more

First and foremost the atmosphere (outside - never made it inside) was fantastic. View was great and the music (The Mufflers) was superb. These alone make it worth the stop. I went there yesterday on my birthday and had a great time! My friend and I ate outside facing the bar that faces the ocean. We even saw a rainbow. The chips, salsa, and guacamole were outstanding! Gnat and bug central at the tiki bar and patio area, they were even in the salsa. Once moved inside, definitely much better. The drinks aren't my cup of tea but if you like fruity drinks with little alcohol then it's probably great. I liked the queso dip with the chorizo, I just wish it came out hot and not barely lukewarm. The flavor was good though so I would give it another try. The Mexi Bowl was not good except for the shrimp. The crunchy rice and hard black beans just made the dish not that enjoyable. The service is fantastic, that's definitely 5 stars!
