Background info real quick on me. I like eating out. So I eat often. At many places. I am going to give you a rundown on why I'm giving this place 4 stars. (I hope management reads this and uses it productively). 3 stars: FOOD I understand the prices for some dishes. No complaint there. It is not 5 because it did not blow me out of the water. 5 stars are reserved for special places. They did the best they could with the seafood dishes, but my crawfish was over cooked. Regardless!, the salmon dish that my mother-in-law got was spot on. She ordered it medium-well and I thought it was going to come out awful, to my surprise, I was wrong. Well done. Wife's chicken was cooked real well. 3 stars because for a pasta dishes, the prices are a little too high, as well as the pizzas. I truly wish they would spend such technique they did on the other dishes. Funny thing: if you're going to come here, go big. Recommend this place for good food. 4 stars: SERVICE. had a waiter, he was great, quick, and patient with members in our party. He talked a bit much, but he was a good guy who did well. Suggestion: (out of love) less words, more eloquent 2 stars: AMBIENCE. This place wants to be fine dining but at the same time be some sort of divey place. It makes no sense. My suggestion as someone who has worked in Michelin Star restaurants and has traveled the world, LOSE the TV's. They take away from what you really want to be. I came here as part of a large party with my work for dinner. For large parties, they usually have a preset menu with 3 main entree options rather than the entire menu. It was a venue pre-selected, and I was a little worried it wouldn't be vegan friendly (short of eating a salad). I figured I would do the best I could, and go from there as I am not the kind to ask for exceptions, and try to make do by just asking for no added dairy products and whatnot. However, our server, Jace, was incredible. As he was taking my order, I asked for no cheese on an entree. He mentioned there was cheese in the sauce, and asked if I was a vegan. He insisted that they find something that would work for me so that I wasn't forced to eat cheese. He made it seem like it was not a big deal at all. I wasn't feeling like eating a salad, and he said that he would have the chef whip something up for me. I had a delicious marinara primavera loaded with all sorts of veggies. I was not left wishing for anything else! I have never felt more welcome as a vegan in an Italian dining establishment, and am so grateful that they were able to make accommodations for me without making me feel like a hindrance. Hmmm. This place was just kinda weird. I truly felt like I was eating in a food court. It was so noisy and lacking romantic-ness. Why do you have TVs in an "upscale" eatery? The trees kind of added to the food court feeling actually. Then we got the menu and our initial thought was that everything was much more expensive than it should be. We ordered the wedge salad and the squash ravioli with chicken on both of them to add protein. Despite the steep prices the chicken was not included. Our waiter forgot to bring us bread and when he did the middle was kinda frozen. The service was a bit on the slow side. The wedge salad was uninspired and the presentation lacking. The blue cheese dressing was the only high point. The butternut squash lasagna however was really very yummy and the bright spot of our visit. It was large and the cheese was just perfectly melted. Almost a dessert. I think still a bit overpriced, but very good. I would not come back here. There are just too many better places to eat. Yelp should up it to 3 dollar signs as well to reflect the more expensive prices. read more

Just walking into this restaurant makes my mouth water. One of the BEST things about this restaurant is you can carry on a conversation and actually hear each other. A very relaxed atmosphere. The decor is light, airy, classy and it smells so delicious. The seating is comfortable and they also have an outdoor patio with misters. The food is wonderful!! They also have GF pasta and other GF selections. The roasted salmon with polenta is delicious. The crab artichoke dip is one of my favorites. The risotto is heavenly, so creamy and delicious!!! Party of 10. 4 chicken parmesan. 2 were freezing cold and sent back. 2 were overcooked and burnt, 1 was also cold. 1 mean didn't come out at all--it was one that didn't even need to be cooked. We had to ask for that meal. 2 lasagna's were good, and 1 child's pizza was good. The food is overpriced and terribly average. This was a birthday, they knew that, screwed up the birthday person's meal. Not even so much as a happy birthday, or a tiny dessert to make up for how poorly the rest of the meal went. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice (with dim lighting, candles & little hanging lights) & it was very clean from what I saw, including the women's restroom. But, sadly, the food was sub-par and kind of expensive. I've had much better Italian food from less expensive restaurants. The presentation of the plates were beautiful. They brought out complimentary sourdough bread & butter. It was good but not super fresh or warm. My husband had the chicken Marsala & it was OK. I had the "homemade" fettuccine & grilled chicken which was also great in flavor but the meat was a little dry & the sauce was sparse. The house salad I had was fresh though! My husband had the tomato basil soup which was pretty good, but not the best. We got the special raspberry chocolate mousse cake & it was $8 and tiny and decent but not very moist. Do you love authentic Italian food! Look no further! This place is amazing! Caputo's is right next door and they sell fresh pastas which I was told Toscanos get their pasta from them home made! Atmosphere is a little upscale and classy yet you can be casual. Appetizer with the trio (gnocchi, ravioli & truffle butter pasta) 5/5 so flavorful and savory! The lasagna 5/5 is to die for! I'm usually not a big lasagna fan but when I went to Italy last year and had home made lasagna it ruined all lasagnas for me until I came to Toscanos!! I've also tried their risotto and added shrimp and that was delicious! Their chicken Parmesan with penne 4/5 was yummy except it was super crispy almost burnt on the outside edges of the chicken, no big deal since i like crispy! My girl friend had the 4 cheese spinach ravioli and that was to die for! Dessert the tiramisu is a must! They also gave us a cute little hot chocolate! Service here is always top notch! We started with a dirty martini, served right, followed by delicious crab cakes served over a tangy lemon butter I wanted to lick off the plate, and delicious goat cheese and balsamic bruschetta. Our main courses were disappointing (brined pork chop that was good but not amazing and Margarita pizza that was lackluster). Dessert was whiskey bread pudding (would have been better with a scoop of gelato), very good coffee and a couple glasses of well-priced wine. All told 2 out of 3 courses were excellent and will bring us back, we'll try the sage and sweet potato lasagna and the meatballs next time. read more

Went for lunch today at noon. There was only a handful of tables (about 5) and 3 waitresses. It took the waitress over 30 minutes to take my order for drinks. After I placed my order it was over 1 hour before the food was ready. Left as soon the dish was ready and had them remove it from my bill. Side note: I asked if they could make Chicken Marsala (which is an easy dish to prepare, I've cooked it many times) the chef said no. You're a shitty chef if you can't prepare this simple dish unless it's dinner time. Or just lazy. I was definitely not impressed. Won't be going back. read more

I called the restaurant to place a takeout order, which included the Pizza Special that was listed on their website at the time of my call. I was asked to confirm what the pizza special was, so I read the description of the pizza and received confirmation that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the hostess said that they didn't have the pizza I had ordered and they had instead prepared a Margherita Pesto pizza for me. I called my husband to ask what other pizza besides the one he was expecting he would actually like to have, and I then confirmed to the hostess that he would like a sausage pizza and to have it prepared timely (I didn't want the rest of my order to arrive cold at home). She walked towards the back of the restaurant, for what I assumed was to put in the order for the sausage pizza. She spent several minutes speaking to her manager. They then walk to the computer behind the gelato freezer and continue their conversation there. I approach them. The manager explains that their pizza specials change weekly, and the one I had ordered was from a prior week. I pointed out to him that each of the ingredients on the pizza I had originally ordered are standard ingredients at any Italian restaurant, and are ingredients present in other dishes currently on their menu. I then questioned him why they could not have corrected their error, by simply putting these ingredients together. He came up with the excuse that they didn't know what the ingredients on that pizza was. I asked why they could not look it up on their website. He answered that they don't have access to the internet to look at their own menu. I then asked why could he or anyone on their staff access their online menu from their mobile phones. Any manager with any experience in customer service would have easily been able to see that the solution I suggested was the most reasonable way to correct their error, but not this guy. The manager and hostess then continue to stare at their computer, discussing what pizza to enter in their computer. The hostess at some point confirmed to him that I had showed her the pizza ingredients from my phone. They then asked me to confirm what pizza I wanted, and I was very surprised by this question, because I thought the sausage pizza was already in the oven, but they never put in an order for it! I asked if they were suggesting that they could put together the original pizza special, and the manager answers no. I then asked why the sausage pizza had not yet been ordered then, and their sad excuse for a manager rudely tells me "that's because we are tying to figure out what it is that you want". They finally put in the order for the sausage pizza. The hostess hands me the receipt to sign. I sat on one of the chairs by the gelato fridge, and signed the receipt paying for my order in full ( they didn't make any adjustments to it). When the order got ready, the manager brought the pizza and a bag with the other meal I had ordered. I extended my hands to give him the signed receipt and take the food, but he sits the box and bag on the chair by my side saying "here you go!" and continued walking away without looking me in the face, leaving my hand hanging holding the signed credit card receipt. Their manager had a negative and rude attitude throughout our entire interaction and never offered a sincere apology. He clearly has no experience with customer service, and made this the worst service experience I had at Toscano since I started visiting it back when it was located on the northeast corner of State street. read more

First and last time we will be there. The ambiance is lovely, but the food was very disappointing. We had the calamari appetizer, then split a Caesar salad and the fettuccini Alfredo. The calamari was rubbery and dry and the aioli dipping sauce tasted only like mayonnaise. No other flavor profile. The Caesar salad was also dry. I don't like a gloopy mess of dressing, but it was hard to even discern the dressing on the greens. The Alfredo had clearly been sitting under the heat lamp for a bit which made it even drier. Almost no discernible Alfredo sauce. The flavor profile was ok, but there just wasn't enough sauce to dress the noodles. We decided to order the tiramisu - and, shocker, it was dry as well. The sponge cake was dry, and the filling had no discernible coffee flavor. Our server was very professional, but service was slow. The best part about the whole experience was sitting on the lovely patio next to a water feature, but that's not enough to entice me to come here again. So annoyed by the service. Didn't even eat here because it was so bad from the moment we walked in. The hostess asked if we had a reservation, and responded with a sarcastic laugh, "Ha, you're going to be waiting quite a while then" ok, how long I ask. "At least 30 minutes" she responds. There wasn't even people waiting to be seated, and tables empty. I have eaten here multiple times and never once had to have a reservation. Okay, this has the right vibe for the kind of restaurant it is. It's like a good date night place, maybe even like a special date night place, and the service was prompt and pleasant and nice-restaurant-y. The restaurant was too dark for my taste (I wanted to turn on my cell phone flashlight and put it on the table). But I'm old school like that. I like lighting. But the food! The food was so, so disappointing. I ordered the roasted vegetables (or grilled vegetables?) as an appetizer. And the veggies were kind of cold and definitely not salted or flavorful enough, but the big problem was that they came out covered--entirely covered, like not visible--by a layer of RAW spinach. Like the baby spinach you buy in the bags at the store. Probably exactly that. With what looked like a Hershey's-syrup drizzle of some kind of thick balsamic dressing on top. It was not good. It was shockingly, visibly not good. My husband laughed when he looked at it. For my entree, I ordered the gnocchi with beef and blue cheese. I thought blue cheese would be a weird component on gnocchi, so I got it on the side. I was right. It was a weird component. And the beef was WAY overcooked. It was tough and dry and not flavorful. The gnocchi was mushy and mealy and bland--it had no color and definitely had not been seared after being boiled--and it was definitely overcooked. The sauce that was on the dish was good, though, so that made it edible. But really, not a great dish. Not even a good dish. But my husband wants the world to know that his bolognese was really good. He really liked it. He "would be pleased to get that for dinner again." Our dinner companions seemed to like their food just fine, and I definitely was the biggest food-y at the table. I went there for lunch, it was my first experience with Toscano's. First impression is great, it is a very beautiful restaurant very nicely decorated with large beautiful paintings. Has a great ambiance. We were immediately seated, there weren't a lot of people there, I was a little surprised by that. Service was good, food was good. Price was good. Let's start off with the positives. The service was fast(ish), for our group of 9. That's pretty much it. Don't be fooled by the atmosphere. It might seem classy, but the food is not: - The med break was more like meh bread. Nothing to write home about. The sauce served with it tasted like canned pasta sauce. - If you want dessert for dinner then order the butternut squash lasagna. It tasted like someone had mixed squash with spinach, doused it with cinnamon, then plunked the entire gross mess in a lake of caramel sauce and maple syrup. Even drenching it in alfredo sauce failed to remove the sickly sweet taste that accompanied it. Only thing remotely good was the bread that accompanied it, but if that was supposed to be garlic flavored, they failed. Big time. I wouldn't eat it if it was free, let alone pay the exorbitant fee of 16 bucks. - The shrimp scampi just had no taste. It wasn't bad it was just nothing. The portion size was not worth the $22 it cost. -We had also ordered the chicken scallopini. Not only was the food incredibly bland and mediocre, but a lot of the vegetables that were served with it were undercooked. Definitely not worth $20. Instead of putting the right amount of salt, they tried to mask the nasty flavor of the food by putting at least 100 capers. The ambiance is open and inviting. The service is excellent. we had the Cline wine and J Lohr wine both excellent. Highly recommend the Arancini and Bruschetta. The Pork Saltimbocca was excellent. I would skip the gnocchi but their pesto and bolognese sauces are wonderful. Highly recommend this Italian destination.
