I had a haircut by Patty on Tuesday, I cannot express how bad the cut was, with hacks out of it, it was different lengths and kicked out at the sides. I actually found it really distressing as I looked ridiculous. I was not presentable for my work. I called the next day and got an appointment with Alan who fixed the mess with no charge, which I was happy about. Nobody apologised for the hack job I had, the fact I had to return to the salon a second time or that I now have hair about 4 inches shorter than it should be. Apart from that its a great looking salon, the people are friendly. Although I have a free follow up appointment with Alan I dont think I'll be back as the thought of going there again makes me shudder. It really was that dreadful. read more

I discovered Tosler Davis a few years ago (through the advice of another native New Yorker friend) and fell in love with this salon. Sonia does my color. She is a total master especially with blondes. I always do a full head of highlights and leave feeling like a movie star. I regularly get compliments after I've seen her, from friends and strangers alike. Sonia never makes me feel bad for having let my roots get too long, which I appreciate. She works quickly, is lovely to talk to, and makes the experience really enjoyable. Patty is my stylist. She is also amazing. She has a really good intuitive sense of what cuts will work and won't work, yet will listen to what you want and deliver. She's funny as hell and very down to earth. The salon overall is great too. I can't rave enough about Patty and the amazing haircut she gave me! I've been getting a continuous stream of compliments on my new do and I can't thank Patty enough for giving me exactly what I asked for. This cut for me was a pretty drastic cut; my hair was down to my belly button and I had planned to cut about 8 inches. I was very nervous and really did not want to just go anywhere. Patty made me feel very comfortable, letting me know exactly what she was planning to do and even suggested to keep the cut slightly longer and trim it shorter if I wanted to at the end. It's been 2 days and I still love it as much as I did the first day!!! You know when you wish you could style it the same way it looked as soon as you got the cut and it just so happens that no matter how exact you follow their instructions, it never happens to look as good? I have no problem with that! The maintenance is low, styling is easy, and even doing it at home myself, I look and feel as if I just walked out of the salon! It also says a lot about her work ethic as she decided to stay late to give me my cut and style; the salon closes at 5pm on Saturdays and she allowed me a 5:45pm appointment!! This was perfect timing considering I had birthday dinner plans later that evening. The price is slightly on the higher end of average but considering the minimums of celebrity stylists in NYC, Patty is a steal!! I have had extensions done on my hair for ten years now at least. Never had I had such a wonderful experience as Jermeniah did at Tosler Davis. She took her time but didn't waste hours of my time and blended them so beautifully I didn't even need to get color done after (which was my initial plan). I plan on going back to her time and time again for platinum seamless extensions! I can't say enough good things! I have had other tape in extensions before from other companies and stylists where you were always able to see the tape near the top of the back of my head because of my thin hair, however, she was able to combat this issue and do a flawless application. I went for their salon apprentice program and got my hair done from a trainee. The serivce was amazing, and their haircuts/coloring usually go for pretty expensive, so I was happy I got to experience this for a cheaper price. The salon is very clean and the staff is so friend (but that is expected from a manhattan salon). They made my hair feel so healthy and it looked so nice afterwards because I had a really orange ombre, but there is definitely a reason why their ratings are so high. read more

Really nice salon but what keeps me coming back is Jermina. I have been going to her for a long time...i think 7 years now?! yikes. She is amazing. I don't have the thickest hair but she always makes me feel so comfortable and beautiful. Luckily she was able to do my hair (and my mother's) for my wedding which happened right after Hurricane Sandy. It was a last minute appointment (i was supposed to get married in Turks and Caicos that Saturday) and she not only made me look amazing, she also recommended her makeup artist friend that did a great job and made me look flawless on my wedding. She also helped me buy extensions, came to the store with me (i had no idea what to buy) and created hair clips with them for me at a price I know should have been triple or more! Jermina is such a sweetheart and I love seeing her and catching up with her every few months. She really does work magic and is one of the kindest, hardest working people I have ever met. I went in for a single-process color and highlights. It was my first visit. I was greeted warmly and offered a beverage twice. The salon has a nice feel and atmosphere. Everyone is given a light-weight black robe to wear over their clothing which I appreciated. I went in sort of knowing what I wanted but was open for suggestions. Maureen was awesome. She trimmed the amount I asked and shaped my hair beautifully. I have naturally wavy/curly hair, which can be difficult if the layers are not correct. Patty returned my hair to big, bouncy & flowy (this is what I asked for, I'm sure she's great with straight hair too). Lastly, I love that unbeknownst to me, Sonia took time to discuss my hair with Patty before my arrival. Booked cut with Patty M. after reading about her in Allure. I thought, 'pretty good, getting a thumbs up in Allure.' Well, you can't always believe what you read. I had medium long layers, asked for some shaping, and got a cut with the same length layer on bottom, and next layer was 2" shorter. The rest of the head, forget it. I had to go back to my old standby, Oscar Bond Salon, for a completely new cut. Entire experience cost me time and lots of money, but I relearned to stick with those I know are good, and if you see someone on the street with a great cut, ask them who their stylist is. Mary is INCREDIBLE. I recently went to get to my highlights and hair cut at Tosler Davis, and was very happy with the results. I am very picky about my highlights, and have been following Mary from salon to salon for three years. She has the magic touch. My highlights always come out looking very natural, and my hair shines. Mary always knows how to pick and mix the right colors, and follows up with a great glaze that leaves your hair looking so healthy. I have fine blond hair; so the color and texture of my highlights matters a lot. The salon is also great and the staff are extremely professional and pleasant. Just had such a great haircut with Albert, after reading so many positive reviews here, and they were right! He's fantastic, and listens so well. I have curly hair and am trying to correct a terrible (self-inflicted) cut, and he made me look fantastic and stylish (finally!) It's also a lovely bright space overlooking 5th Ave, and everyone was super nice. I spoke to the woman next to me on the way down the elevator who has been going for years, and she agreed it was so refreshing to have a high end cut without any snobbery. Had a very nice single process color here with Maureen. She was correcting a botched DIY job for me and took her time to have a thorough conversation about the color with me. We discussed a few different approaches. She was very careful with the application and checked her work a few times by removing the color in little patches to see if it looked right, then reapplying. The service includes both hair color and a gloss, the gloss step is key to leaving the salon looking amazing. Maureen has a laid back demeanor which matches the peaceful vibe of this salon. Later Cheyenne gave me a beautiful blowout, she took direction very well to address an annoying cowlick I have at the front. My only regret is they placed me in the long narrow hallway side of the salon for my service, I would have much rather sat in the cooler loft space that is shown on the website, which is where my blowout took place. Haven't seen the long term results of this color but my first impression is that I am very pleased and feel that my hair looks beautiful and glamorous. read more

I can not say more good things about my experience at Tosler Davis. I called in the middle of the day Saturday and was given an appt with no problems. I had my hair colored with Ombre style by Sonia, she listened to what I wanted and not only executed it with patience but also fixed the terrible color job i got done at Divas (upper east side DO NOT GO) and made my hair look amazing. I've seen people do ombre by teasing the hair which can be uncomfortable and hurt...and Sonia didn't have to do all that she clearly knows how to color. She also put a gloss on my hair and it came out looking awesome, blow dry is included in any color appt and they did it so fast! Definitely recommend read more

Actually, that is where Patty is exceptional. She cuts my thin straight hair into a perfect bob and as much as I love it for the first few weeks, I also love it when it begins to grow out. i LOVE this place. i have difficult hair - some of it is curly, some wavy and some poker straight, and most of it is frizzy - and the stylists here know what to do w/ it so that i don't have to do much. i had never had "wash and go" hair, and whether i have a short haircut or long, i've been "wash, style for about 4 minutes and go" since i've been coming here (since about 2001 or so?). the stylists will talk to you if you want, or just leave you alone (which is what i want). they LISTEN when you tell them what you want and what your concerns are. and if the cut isn't laying right, you can come back in w/in two weeks and they will fix it for free. can't beat that when you're trying new lengths/styles. the only thing is that it is kinda expensive...well, for me anyway. $90-110 or so per cut depending on the stylist. but the cuts grow out great so i can go 4 months or so w/out a trim if i like. btw, i've recommended this place to a number of folks and they have all been going here for years as well. read more

I read the reviews of Tosler Davis and ran there for an appointment with Sean. I'd just had upsettingly bad color done at another salon, and needed a correction. When I walked in, Sean could see the problem immediately, and we discussed how to fix it. For the price, I definitely expected to have the best hair color of life, but the results were underwhelming, Yes, Sean did correct a very bad dye job and I don't feel embarrassed to leave my apartment, but the color is not the best I've had. The most surprising part is the very piece-y, too-blonde, unnatural-looking highlights...definitely doesn't look like this was done by the co-owner of such a well-reviewed place. I just recently got a haircut at another salon which turned out to be great, and when she started cutting my hair, the stylist there started talking, unprompted by me, about what we could do to save my color. Bad sign. For around $400, you could do a lot better. read more

I was referred by a friend of the owner, believed the hype, paid too much for a 'haircut' which amounted to a chunk of my bangs deepened beyond my crown-line - no shaping in the back that took me 6 months to grow out.
