If I could give Bar Vegan more than five stars, I absolutely would…read more An acquaintance and I drove all the way from Brooklyn, NY specifically to visit Bar Vegan, and they treated us like royalty from the moment we walked in. That first night after the drive was an entire vibe. Their espresso martini--made with almond milk, I believe--was different in the best way and so, so good. The food? Don't even get me started. The Bang Bang Shrimp, Cheezesteak Eggrolls, Elote Street Corn, and Maple Brussels Sprouts were all hits. Every single one. We loved it so much that we decided not to rush back to NYC and make a full weekend out of it. One of the owners personally recommended ROOST Baltimore Pennisula, a nearby apartment-style hotel, and wow--beyond awesome. Truly the perfect suggestion. We came back to Bar Vegan for brunch, and somehow the experience was even better than the night before. Our server, Shavone, was phenomenal--attentive, kind, warm, and just an absolute joy. We also got to meet some of the kitchen staff preparing our food, and I made sure to give them their flowers because listen... I am not vegan, and I loved everything. The omelette, sausage, shrimp and grits, chopped salad, French toast, and fresh-squeezed juices were all superb. Before heading back to NYC, we stopped in one final time that evening--and once again, they did not miss. The oxtails and jollof rice, Brussels sprouts, corn, and potstickers were straight fire. I truly wish nothing but continued success and growth for this place. Bar Vegan deserves all the love, all the recognition, and all the thriving. We came as visitors and left as fans for life. Be well--and we'll definitely be back.

*****3.5 stars*****…read more Stopped by for an event, which took up about a quarter of the bar. Given the amount of people, our waitress did great taking orders and delivering them to everyone. Ordered the special event drink, which was essentially the lychee martini on their menu. This was a big no no. Didn't taste like lychee at all but mainly peach schnapps. Definitely not for me or what I ordered. We left just before 9pm, which was when the DJ started playing some good jams. People started rolling in too. What can I say, I'm getting old and still needed to drive back home (~1hr). Lol

This was our first time at Café 1908 and definitely won't be the last…read more We walked in not really knowing what we wanted, but the woman at the register was super polite and patient while we figured it out. I really appreciated her vibe, and I noticed that when food is ready, she actually comes out from behind the counter to hand-deliver it to customers. That kind of small gesture goes a long way. The place is mostly carry-out, but there are a few bar-style seats if you want to eat there. The menu isn't your typical fast food lineup either, they've got some creative, non-traditional options that definitely stand out. We tried the Jerk Chicken Cheesesteak, Fried Chicken Sandwich, 1908 Chicken Cheesesteak, and Fish Tacos, and they were all delicious. Seriously, everything was seasoned well and packed with flavor, with the exception of our fries, which isn't the end of the world. The jerk cheesesteak had a nice kick without being too spicy, and the fried chicken sandwich had the perfect crunch. For drinks, we had the Strawberry Lemonade and the Peach Half & Half, both were refreshing and hit that perfect sweet spot without being too sugary. Overall, Café 1908 has a cool vibe, great food, and friendly service. It's one of those hidden gems you're glad you stumbled across.

I wish I had a photo to show y'all, but I ate most of it before writing this review!…read more Ash was kind enough to give me and my friend some of the "Big Bang sauce" along with our order of Portobello cheese wrap, the Thai chili, shrimp, tacos, and the salmon seafood burger. It took about 12 minutes to get our food while Ash was juggling 1 or 2 other orders. As for the atmosphere... There's this brick wall and like this table, that's kind of made like a bar style underground joint. I love it and I definitely wanna make a monthly visit.

Anyhoo, instead of past fav David and Dad's Café, I went with the Circuit Court lunch list pick of Nalley Fresh (in the famed Sun Trust Building). You get various protein and add-on choices and choice of salad or wrap or whateves, plus chips (Uglies) and sweets, including their "famed" chocolate brownie. Courteous and efficient service, plus I think they gave me better than the 10% discount as a sad sack juror! Excellent chicken Caesar wrap with vinegar chips and brownie! I highly recommend Nalley Fresh for your jury duty lunch where there is some window seating with AC if not outside tables on a less hot day. Bonus: It you ask nicely, the adjoining lobby desk person may lead you to a tucked-away bathroom to freshen up before you head back to do your civic duty for the rest of the day. (Note: Lucky me, I did not get picked, and by early afternoon on a Friday, we jury "orphans" were released again to our "normal" lives--to live free and easy for another year.)

The bartenders were polite and cleaned our table quickly, considering the place was packed they were doing an amazing job. The Buffalo Garlic Parm sauce for the wings was clearly home made and without realizing it we were there on a Tuesday making the wings only 9 dollars, the blue cheese is very mild but worked well with the sauce. The shrimp po'boy was large enough to split and was comparable to a sandwich from New Orleans in quality. I was tempted by the club but the turkey isn't the style I like, otherwise I could easily see myself trying more of the menu because it's clear the cook was skilled. The rail ginger beer and rum was inexpensive and well made and their selection of beer while currently missing a few key dark beer items was not bad at all, they included some draft beer options as well outside of the standard light beers and National Bohemian. All in all I would see myself returning when I head to the area for Ottobar events to try more of their food menu, just remember to get there somewhat early before the kitchen closes at 10.
