Growing up a state (40years) that is know for its Mexican food, I consider myself a bit of an expert in this genre of food...so, with this being said, here's my prognosis: Food: Mexican food (Tacos) is simple and needs to be built: - Tortilla is the foundation - Meat is the core - Lettuce on top of meat acting as a buffer for salsa - Cheese on top of lettuce, placing this here limits the ability of the cook to pack in to much - Salsa drips down through each layer This order is standard for tacos and is minimum requirement to call something a "Taco" This restaurant does not follow this rigid guideline. Shrimp tacos were ordered, and the shrimp arrived cooked but not grilled nor seasoned and came on a tortilla. Vegetables were an ad and also were not grilled. The cheese was not melted and the tortilla was not warm. The whole meal came uninspired and seemed thrown together. The standard side of "beans and rice" that came with it included burned beans and bland rice. Service: The waitress did not exude the standard southern hospitality, failed to bring my refill while we were eating our food, did not include a side that I ordered and did not bring me the actual food that I ordered. The restaurant did have a good number of patrons, yet, the waitress was nowhere to be seen throughout our whole time eating. To be honest, we have yet to find a decent Mexican restaurant throughout our time living here in the south, this restaurant is near the bottom of what we've experienced. Do yourself a favor and go to Publix around the corner and buy a can of refried beans, cheddar cheese, flour tortillas, ground beef and the seasoning that says "TACO" and make yourself Homemade Mexican food... It will be better and you'll save yourself some money. read more

Good place, kind servers, good food. The biggest downfall to this review will be that they were short-staffed. As of this writing, almost everywhere is short-staffed due to folks not being in a hurry to get back to work after the COVID-19 pandemic and the American Rescue Plan. Still, as a customer, you should know walking in you'll be dealing with a short-staffed place. We waited about thirty minutes before she was even able to take our order, and then we got one visit after our food was brought. Our server was great, and she was hustling, but trying to have two servers handle the entire restaurant is rough. Our food was good. The place was clean, including the bathrooms. They have a wide variety of options, especially for a Mexican place. It's a good place, especially if they are able to get enough staff back. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Quite, dark and clean. Stopped in for a light lunch alone. Saw all the usual items you would expect in a Mexican menu. Had the waitress recommend anything unique. She sent me to Esquite Totopos. It was on the appetizer menu, which made me ask "can it be a meal". Waitress beamed and said it was her favorite. This is a large plate of roasted corn seared grilled chicken, cheese, tortillas sprinkled and a tangy sauce. It was filling and interesting. I couldn't quite place the sauce. Bizarrely bad charro beans and pulled chicken. I truly thought they forgot the seasonings in the beans and was going to tell them but then my friend said the pulled chicken in her taco was bland. They used no salt, no cumin, no nothing. The beans were cooked in water and bacon but not chicken broth even at minimum. Tasteless and watery. I still think maybe they forgot seasonings and this is a big mistake...if so I'm sorry. Chips were great! Service and atmosphere great. At least put salt on the tables maybe if this is truly intentional. read more

What an odd lunch. Wife and I dropped in on a Friday lunch hour. Walked in and there were 5-6 tables unbussed. Chips and salsa tasted good but the salsa portion was a joke. Waiter brought a larger bowl upon request. We each got a couple of their regular dinner combos. It was, not good? Oddly, the more I ate the better it tasted but it never really hit "good". I ordered a combo that had Chile con queso, a burrito, and two tacos. Apparently, at this place, Chile con queso is a tortilla with beans and ground beef? Ok? Our server was nice but we never got drink refills. Manager came over to check on us. Food came out quickly but so quickly that I wondered how exactly it was cooked so fast. Okay. Liked Totopos so much the first time that the family had to come back again. Gotta tell y'all, it was even better the second time. Food was fantastic like last time. This time we went on a Friday night and they had live music. The musician was very talented and the whole family thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Wow, service was A+! We sat on the patio and our server did an amazing job of taking care of us. Patio is super chill with a homey vibe. Kudos to the restaurant for offering at least 1 veggie-only dish in each category. I had the veggie burrito and scraped every morsel from my plate. The burrito was hearty AND healthy. Guac and salsa were pretty tasty, too (though the salsa could have used some texture...it was kinda runny.) On another note...while I absolutely support and celebrate the right for restaurants to stamp their religious beliefs on their walls, I honestly felt this restaurant does it in a way that doesn't feel...very tactful. As a "spiritual but not religious" person, some of the signage made me feel a bit uncomfortable, like I didn't belong there if I wasn't a devote Christian. Just my honest reaction. The tropical juices are very nice, I ordered the mango juice with pollo loco. The rice was fine, but the chicken was extremely rubbery. I ended up putting the chicken aside to finish the rice. The salsa was meh, and the chips were a bit on the thin side. Overall, it depends on what you get, but I'd recommend it either way as it didn't take away from the experience (and atmosphere/music) The pros outweigh the cons, especially the tropical juices (to die for) The service was also excellent, and the waiters and waitresses were nice.
