This has been one of our favorite French restaurants. The food is always excellent and we have had steak, cod, coq au van, etc. the shrimp appetizers are carefully crafted for mix of textures and tastes. My husband loves their onion soup. Wines are good although a bit pricey even the house. Only disappointment is that they do not have chocolate mousse on the dinner menu. Have been passing by this place for years now and decided to give it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At first it was almost completely empty with only one other table seated. Enjoyed the mussels and fries. Great flavor. Few were empty tho and thought they just fell out to the bottom which was not the case. Ordered their recommended special which was a Branzino. We did not enjoy the branzino at all. The flavor was off and the rice with it wasn't flavored well either. Will try again eventually and order something off of their actual menu and not a special. Surprised this place isn't packed more regularly and blowing up on socials - absolutely love love love the food and experience here. Great place for brunch, located right next to the subway exit. The Tartiflette Tournesol special was amazing, it tasted like a breakfast Fondue made with creamy brie cheese, sausages and potatoes. The French toast was some of the best French toast I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, but juicy on the inside, almost as if it was a sugar encrusted custard. The space was very packed with many patrons around noon, had to wait about 15 minutes to get a seat. The wait staff was so nice and got me a coffee while I waited for a table. Tournesol is a gem! We first chose it for brunch as a perfect location for us, from Long Island, to meet another couple from Manhattan. After one visit it became our favorite meeting place! Tournesol is an LIC institution. After 21 years in the neighborhood, they are still one of the spots for dinner. We came last week for their special 21 years in business menu and loved each bite. We tried baked clams, butternut squash soup, duck leg, roasted fluke, apple tart, and a chocolate mousse dessert. We loved pretty much everything (besides the soup), especially the entrees. Outside of the food, the service is great and the atmosphere really does feel like you are in a quaint cafe in France. Escargots - unlike in the past, lots of breadcrumb s#ite, Steak frites - how in heaven's name to get this wrong. Just perfect on a cold November night. Maxime has been so attentive, making sure my wine glass is full. I've ordered the traditional beef bourguignon for the main course. It comes and is delicious. I was here during their 21 year anniversary. They served a 3 course meal for only 20$. The place was completely packed to the brim, but I managed to get a bar seating and my order was taken promptly! I would definitely recommend checking this place out as it's been in area for so long. I got the Stuffed clams with Pastis - came on a hot plate, super fresh. There was a bit of sand (the crunchiness when you get when you chew into not thoroughly cleaned shellfish), but flavors were on point. Duck leg confit with sweet potato puree - the Duck was cooked perfectly! The puree was ok. It was more of a mashed sweet potato than a puree (not as fine). A Vernon Blvd / LIC staple of a petite French bistro, Tournesol is a cute spot you gotta pay a visit...if not just to see their iconic mini-car parked out in front! While, some may think that French cuisine is inherently heavy, Tournesol offers out an array of dishes for any appetite and/or 'food-guilt' tolerance. From steak frites to several seared and roasted fish dishes, and an assortment of dessert, there's really something for everyone, which is generally an impressive feat, but noteable here with a pretty concise and managable menu. Kind of surprised I didn't review Tournesol yet, but recent went for dinner while my folks were in town. They have both indoor and outdoor seating - this time we opted for indoor as it was still kind of early and not too too busy. For apps, we got: Sauteed snails with tarragon sauce - these were great! if anyone's iffy about escargot, this dish will change your mind! Salmon tartare with avocado and grapefruit - really smart concept of cutting the rich tartare with the acidic grapefruit, works nicely! Homemade terrine of duck liver with fig chutney - we're a family that likes their liver (could be genetic/ethnic) lol, and this was pretty delightful. Aaaaand for the mains, my folks got the Pan Seared Skate A L'Arrabiata and Pomme Anna, the Seared Trout A La Meuniere with Almonds, and I opted for the Roasted Hake with Asparagus and Gaspacho. All really well-prepared, light dishes (which we kind of keep an eye out for, gotta justify dessert!)...everyone was mooore than content. I've also had the mussels in previous visits, and those are damn good too! But why stop there when we can have dessert?! The profiteroles and the creme brulee are definitely crowd pleasers! Luckily, the difference being that the menu is in English and I don't have to shy away with my feeble pronunciation of the French language. Outdoor seating is available to enjoy the warmth of the sun on those lazy Sunday mornings, and makes for a perfect brunch spot for small groups. Some of our favorites are the chicken liver mousse (listed under salads, which it's served alongside, but is more like an appetizer) and the croque monsieur (add egg, effectively making it a croque madame). While the food is simple, it's always comforting and delivers just what I want in the moment. Great, very authentic French food! There are a few limited places in queens that make me feel like I'm in Paris and this is one of them! The only fail that they have are the escargots. We couldn't resist the escargot and while I haven't had any since I was in Paris, it was rich and buttery like I remembered. Despite the small menu I happily chose the duck entree amongst heavy dairy dishes. This was cooked to near perfection and the sauce and veggies complimented it very well.
