An unexpectedly great French spot in LIC! Tournesol is unassuming from the outside, but is an intimate and romantic spot on the inside. The staff here is so friendly and kind. I came here for dinner one evening and got their french onion soup, the escargot, the foie gras, duck, and steak and frites. The onion soup was so delicious, comforting, and warm. Loved the sauce that the escargot came with and the portion was good. The foie gras was also delicious, but I wish they gave more bread to enjoy with the foie gras. Both of the entrees were delicious--the duck and steak were so tender and juicy. The staff also gave us complimentary meringues for dessert! Would definitely come back!

Have been passing by this place for years now and decided to give it a try. At first it was almost completely empty with only one other table seated. It was a little concerning but later on it started to fill up which was quick due to its small size. Service was amazing. Very attentive servers and helpful. Enjoyed the mussels and fries. Great flavor. Few were empty tho and thought they just fell out to the bottom which was not the case. Ordered their recommended special which was a Branzino. We did not enjoy the branzino at all. The flavor was off and the rice with it wasn't flavored well either. Will try again eventually and order something off of their actual menu and not a special. Also, was shocked that they only take cash and American Express. Have not experienced something like this before and were only informed after the bill.

Surprised this place isn't packed more regularly and blowing up on socials - absolutely love love love the food and experience here. This is a perfect date night with candlelight, a cozy atmosphere (aka tight quarters! Pretty close to other tables!), and fun, relaxing French music. (I've also seen families here and just groups of buddies.) The waitstaff are pleasant, too. The French onion soup is also one of the best I've ever had. The bread stayed crusty for a long while in there! (That is a good thing lol) and the cheese was sooo gooey. I feel like other places have gone overboard with the cheese, but Tournesol really nailed the ratios for this classic. We got the mussels, duck, and steak frite - my partner hates mussels, but these were so fresh and flavorful, he ended up eating the whole pot himself :) I'm also obsessed with the grapes in the sauce with the duck and the flavor/components of the duck dish was great. This was my second time dining and will def be back!

RIP to the escargot, but that dirty Gibson is what my dreams are made of

Always a treat! I feel transported when I come here from the food, drinks, service. It is as close to Paris as I can get from Queens, New York.

Chill vibes near the waterfront. French onion soup is one of the best of what I've tried in the city! The cheese amount was just right to have a good balance with the natural sweetness of onions. Croque Monsieur is my go to order each time. The Foie Gras is quite a surprise! The good balance of sour and sweetness of the jam add sparkles to the Foie Gras. Egg Benedict and Omelette are both align with expectations. The staff are very friendly and caring too.

Great place for brunch, located right next to the subway exit. The Tartiflette Tournesol special was amazing, it tasted like a breakfast Fondue made with creamy brie cheese, sausages and potatoes. The French toast was some of the best French toast I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, but juicy on the inside, almost as if it was a sugar encrusted custard. The space was very packed with many patrons around noon, had to wait about 15 minutes to get a seat. The wait staff was so nice and got me a coffee while I waited for a table. I would have liked a little more space. They had outdoor seating, but it was too cold to sit outside.

On the walls you'll see Paris images like the Pont Alexandre III bridge, Parisien streets and newspapers. There were a few couples having an intimate dinner with the dim lighted seating. A little too intimate for a first date though imo. We came as a group and we were seated on the side as a party of 5. For the appetizer, we tried the caramelized onion tartlets, which was around a bite. But nice to share, and everyone gets one. For the main, most of us ordered the duck breast, which was not a bad choice because it really was delicious, and so was their salmon - however one caveat is that the food took such a long to come out. The duck is a little fatty, which honestly was pretty good if you like that. The salmon comes with a side of ratatouille. Note that some of the mains are only served on specific days such as the duck confit. We ended up sharing the dessert which included the creme brûlée, warm chocolate fondant, and the apple torte. My favorite was the chocolate fondant as it tasted similar to a lava cake. The creme brûlée did come with a hard caramelized top, which made it really appetizing too. Would absolutely get the desserts again.

The restaurant feels like a little piece of Paris tucked into the neighborhood, with vintage French advertisements decorating the walls, attentive service, and a menu that consistently delivers. On warm evenings, the outdoor seating is especially lovely. White tablecloths, cocktails, and excellent food create an experience that feels elevated without being stuffy. Dogs are welcome outside, and on our most recent visit there were several of us furry diners patiently supervising our humans' meals... My mom couldn't decide what to order, so she went with two appetizers. The salmon tartare was outstanding and unlike any she'd had before, with a unique flavor that may have included ginger. She also ordered the sea scallops served with Black Forbidden Rice and a Madras Curry Emulsion. The sauce was rich, unique, and absolutely delicious. Dad stayed loyal to his steak frites with au poivre sauce, which never disappoints. The cocktails were equally impressive. Mom enjoyed a seasonal special called the "Gin and Chill," while Dad ordered an Old Fashioned. There isn't a dog menu, but that didn't stop me from carefully monitoring every plate that arrived at the table in hopes of an accidental tasting opportunity. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner, a neighborhood favorite, or simply a great French meal on the Upper East Side, Jacques is well worth a visit. Dogba's verdict: Elegant outdoor dining, excellent people-watching, outstanding French food, and plenty of opportunities to politely stare at steak frites.

But after trying their cuisine, this restaurant became more than just a place to watch a mini concert, glass of wine in hand. My favorite dish here is their carbonara, and I dare say, it may be the best carbonara I've ever had. The pasta is wonderfully creamy with generous bits of guanciale. I mean, just look at this beauty - it's glistening! As though this dish weren't creamy enough, it's topped with a half cracked egg, the yolk a vibrant orange. The idea here is that you incorporate the yolk into the pasta while it's still warm. This is a French restaurant after all, so I will warn you that the service here is quite European.
