My favorite bakery in Austin to come with friends, or bring my laptop and work during non-peak hours. I always get their blueberry cream cheese bread, but everything is delicious. Their iced teas and coffee are excellent. The vibe is cute, almost feminine. It's a visually refreshing place - they present their food and space beautifully and attend to lots of details that I think other places don't seem to take pride in. It looks like the kind of place KDramas shoot their 'intense conversations over coffee' scenes. "Tous Les Jours": meaning everyday (exp.) or daily (adv.) in French. This is a great translation since I can equate TLJ as the Starbucks of Korean bakeries. TLJs can be found in nearly every major highly Korean-populated city in the United States (e.g. LA, NYC, Flushings, Torrance, etc.) as well as several international locations (and of course in South Korea since it is a South Korean-based franchise). TLJ is a great place to find consistent and above-average Korean bakery products. It may not be better than some small hole-in-the-wall Korean bakeries, but those places are definitely hit or miss. This is what made it difficult for me to rate this location as a four-star vice three-star. In relation to the representation of Asian bakeries in Austin, I gave TLJ four stars for this specific location. My four 'must-tries' for any Korean bakery to determine their worth in weight of baked goods are their Chestnut Bread, Peanut Cream Soboro, Fresh Cream Cake, and Palmiers. Over the course of two visits, I tried all four and was happy with most of what I tasted. On both visits, they did not have Chestnut Bread so I opted for the Chestnut Pastry bread which was just as good as a well made Chestnut Bread, just with a crispy pastry top. Their Peanut Cream Soboro was light, fluffy, with a surprisingly light peanut cream inside. The Fresh Cream Cake, which I only tried a slice, was good. If you haven't had a fresh cream cake, try one immediately! You will swear off future buttercream or cream cheese frosted cakes once you try the fresh cream frosting. Finally, the Palmiers; The first visit produced crisp, sweet, well made Palmiers with that delicious buttery sweet deliciousness. However, the second visit had me leaving with an unpleasantly flavored, underbaked palmier that tasted strongly of egg (I didn't think Palmiers had eggs in the recipe unless they used an egg wash that soaked for way too long before baking.) I'll give the Palmiers another try on a third visit and update the review if it is better. Overall, TLJ is on my list of recommended destinations for those that are uninitiated on Korean Bakeries as I can be fairly confident that their products will be consistently good on a daily 'Tous Les Jour' basis. All of the pastries in this place are individually wrapped in single use plastics. Other than the obvious drawback of making needless trash, this makes each of the pastries lose the crispness that is the hallmark of a croissant or a danish; instead, they are slightly soggy. The coffee was great, the employees are kind, helpful, and masked, and the sign on the door asks customers to be masked as well. I'm glad I went, but will likely not go back; I'm happy to pay higher prices to support local businesses, but not if the quality of the product is poor. read more

Is this really a bakery? My friend and I visited here after eating dinner at Manna. It was around 8pm, and they literally did not have any pastries left. Why are they even open then? I had the same issue during my first visit here. I came around 1pm on a weekday, and their pastries were all sold out. I got couple of the remaining pastries at my second visit. I would highly recommend this place anytime you need an excuse for a cake. After trying a slice for a coworker, my youngest had bday coming up so I came here. First Korean bakery I've been to since moving to Austin and all my Lorena bakery needs have been utterly fulfilled. I strolled in a touch after 11am. And was visually greeted by rows and rows of incredible pastries. After walking through, I noticed that every now and again, one of the folks who worked here was cutting up samples of various of items. She encouraged me to try several things. I fell in love with the Milk Bread ($2.25), and the Corn Cream Bread ($2.00)---which was basically a stuffed veggie bread. Holy cannoli (which they also sell those)....sooooo delectable. And then I notice warm croquettes. And they had a kimchi one ($2.25)! SOLD! My standbys that I always order are the big puffy, "donuts"---which are round puffed up balls stuffed with something lovely. I chose the sweet rice donut and a sweet pumpkin donut. I'm not sure if the mistakenly put a red bean donut in the sweet rice basket-----but that's what it tasted and looked liked. Good thing I like red bean :) Definitely give this place a twirl. I have tried most of their breads, pastries and even cakes as we ordered them for hubbys and my birthdays and the quality and taste never disappoints you. I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! In the last week and a half I've been here probably 5 times! So there seems to be a lot of complaints about the name of this bakery being misleading. Yes, it is a French name but no it is not French pastries. It is a Korean bakery using French techniques. So what makes this bakery so awesome? Their pastries and baked goods of course! FINALLY a place that does not dump cups and cups of sugar into every bite! Nothing is overly sweet and that is what makes me a huge fan of this place. Not only that, the prices for the individual pastries are very fair and affordable! They bake all of their goods daily from pastries to cakes to breads and let me tell you it is worth every penny to come in here for these when they're fresh. The workers are friendly and the service is quick. Here are some good ones to try if you do stop in: Blueberry & Cream Cheese Bun Cream Cheese Bun Custard Bun Sweet Potato Pie Ganache Chocolate Cake (This was AMAZING!) Sobarro Bun My least favorite item I've had which I would not recommend unless you like thick creamy tasteless frosting is the Mocha Cake - just wasn't a fan. The cake was a little dry and the cream frosting on this reminded of the cheap Asian birthday cakes my mom used to get me for my birthday when I was a little girl. I may have found my favorite bakery in Austin. This place is the real deal. As an Asian-American from California, I will say I do miss all the Japanese (Asian) bakeries. I've also been to Japan several times so I've gotten to experience how unbelievably good westernized Asian desserts and bakery goods are. While Tous Les Jours reminded me of a Japanese bakery (everything down to the attention to detail of the packaging!) it's actually owned and operated by Koreans. But they use the same high quality ingredients and none of the desserts are too sugary sweet the way most western bakeries are. Everything is so light that you end up buying several items and don't even feel too full in the end. I've tried everything from chocolate croissants to some kind of cream filled donut to the strawberry yogurt cake. It's all outstanding. I also noticed that they offer cake making classes for both adults and a separate one for kids. What a great idea! Although the bakery is a bit far for me (30 minutes), whenever I'm in the area I always make a stop here and so should you! read more

This is actually a bakery thats a chain company in korea and they are now expanding all over in the US now. I used to work at this bakery back in houston, and after trying the austin one, it's a lot better... It's not as much variety as houston bakery, but the taste is a lot better! I recommend the cheese balls: it's small orange balls. at a glance they don't look too appetizing, but if you do get them, they're sooo good! it's even better if you microwave it about 10 seconds. It gets really warm and the fragrance comes out more:) Also their baguette with butter cream is REALLY good. it used to be a thing that the workers did with the extra baguette and buttercream left over, but they made it into an official bread:) Their fresh cream cake with fruit is also SUPER good, so you HAVE to try it!! read more

I have missed having a good Asian bakery nearby. Thank goodness that there is one finally here, just 10 minutes away from the UT campus. I'm sure that this little chain Korean bakery will draw in grocery shopping customers from Hanyang next door. The prices are notably higher than the Chinese bakeries I've been to in Houston ($3.50 for larger breads, $1.50 for small buns), but still nothing that I wouldn't mind paying for the bread. I'm pretty sure nothing in that store is incredibly nutritious, but if you're looking to satisfy a sweet tooth and craving carbs, here's a place to go. Red bean cream bread was my favorite out of all my purchases. I will try the Boro bread and chocolate croissant next time I go. Bottom line: TLJ carries soft, chewy, delicious breads full of margarine and preservatives and deliciousness. My favorite. I will be back all the time. Anyone who's ever tried Red Mango yogurt or listened to Gangnam Style knows that Korea is rapidly rising as an exporter of culture on top of previous ventures into automobiles, LCD displays, and cell phones. Personally, I'm excited because of a longstanding infatuation with Korean cuisine (and a more ambivalent fascination with Korean cinema) but fearful to see a world where hipsters and flatlanders are drinking Hite and talking about K-dramas. So, Korean bakeries are a thing, and this one is an outpost of a Korean chain. The look is carefully designed, but more welcoming than the pushy contrivance of, say, a certain major coffee chain. The baked goods themselves look exaggerated and almost magical, vividly-colored cartoons of what bread and pastry should be. And they really are quite good. The sheer variety was very daunting, however. So far, I've tried the buns, because they're familiar and accessible but still different enough to be interesting. They come with a variety of fillings, but are haphazardly labeled. I am reduced to guessing based on the seeds or powders sprinkled on top, since sometimes even the staff didn't seem to be sure exactly what was where (they were very polite about it, at least). When presented with stupid questions such as, "What's best?" one of the staff answer hesitantly, "For Koreans, or...?" For Koreans or not, I tried the red bean, cheese, and custard buns. All had the same basic dough, a dense, rich, almost creamy white dough that was sweet but not overpoweringly so. It had just a little bit of chewiness to it. The cheese filling was a hit out of the park. Almost buttery, it had an understated sweetness and a cheesy tartness that melded nicely with the bun. The custard was inoffensive, a notch above what you'd get in a filled donut. Red beans are a bit stranger to my palate, and an acquired taste, but their red bean filling is good except for a slight graininess. Side note: the single, lonely red bean bun that survived a full 24 hours was not much the worse for wear when eaten the next morning. While this would indicate black magic with regards to bread, I think the cake-like dough they use probably just keeps better, especially when sealed up in a package. read more

This review is only based on their Patbingsu. For me, they put too much condensed milk which caused it to be too sweet. It also took a long time for them to make it. But if you like patbingsu and have a sweet tooth, I would still go and try it. read more

This place does not skimp. Their Bavarian cream donut is actually a Bavarian cream burger! So even though this has made a roller coaster of my blood sugar, 4 stars. Despite having a Tous Les Jours pretty accessible in Austin for the past 3 years, the first time I tried it was in NY. The bread is good, soft and the good kind of chewy. They don't skimp on fillings and the atmosphere of the bakery is really cute. There's also a nice variation of degrees of sweetness so there's something for everyone. Tous les jours was one of the bakeries I frequently visited in California. When I first heard a location would be opening in Austin, I was ecstatic! However I went for the Grand Opening only to find myself in an empty store. The bread was SOLD OUT for a GRAND OPENING. Disappointed I left and went to visit weeks later. That time there were fresh bread and cakes, and also a long line to checkout. I bought the twist donut which is my favorite donut and some other varieties of bread. The bread tasted fantastic similar to California TLJ, but i could not help to notice the disorganization of the bakery which is understandable given the store has been open for a short time. I personally felt the effects of the disorganized store when I ordered a cake for my dad's birthday. I called in and the person I spoke to did not understand english therefore handing the phone over to her associate who was unfamiliar with the process of handling a cake order. Smh. In the end, after some calls back and forth, the associate successfully entered the order. I came a couple days later to pick it up and OMG the mocha cake was DELICIOUS! As a customer I understand the bakery is new and needs time to learn so I pardon it a star. The bread and cake is amazing and I give TLJ 4/5 despite the poor cake order experience. read more

I stopped by to pick up dessert on my way to a friend's house for dinner. I walked in and I was impressed by the beautiful displays and nice interior. The amazement ended right about then. I started perusing the offerings and saw outrageous prices. $4 for four small madeleines? $2.50 for one tiny macaron? They had great flavor combos but wow, super expensive. I purchased some madeleines and macarons, simply because I didn't have time to make a separate trip anywhere else. The total came to $17 and I feel like I hardly purchased anything. I stumbled upon this place after a lunch at Ola Poke. This was right next door and decided to just take a look. I love the fact that you get to taste many of their bakery items before purchasing! Everything in there tasted delicious and made it very difficult to stick to my diet. I ended up getting the chocolate filled bread because my son just wouldn't stop eating all the samples (So sorry!) This instance of Tous Les Jours is a well-executed Asian bakery in the heart of Austin's Koreatown (on North Lamar Blvd just south of Justin Ln). The interior is warmly-decorated and invites us to sit for hours. There are plenty of seats--something rare in the Asian bakeries of Houston. I got a red bean bun for $1.25 and it was one of the best red bean buns I've had. In addition to a wide assortment of breads, pastries, cakes, and rolls, they also sell coffee at prices lower than the standard Austin coffeeshop prices. The pastry prices here are quite a bit higher than other Asian bakeries. The portions are at least 20% smaller and the prices are at least 20% higher. It's kind of a good thing--I wish food prices in America were higher so that overweight Americans like myself eat less. I wish this Tous Les Jours would open earlier--like well before 8 am so that the weekday 8-5 work crowd can stop in for coffee and breakfast. Because lots of the pastries are individually-wrapped and the staff wears cute uniforms, this bakery has this "fake-world-happy" ambience that turns me off. I stumbled upon this spot today while on a furniture hunt and Michi Ramen visit. What a wonderful surprise. I had never been to a Korean bakery before, but when I walked in I already knew I loved it. The interior design was French-inspired, but the pastries were definitely Korean. I got a red bean paste doughnut, a sweet potato bun, a strawberry jam roll, a rice cake, the whipped cream bread, and a sesame doughnut. Don't worry, I didn't eat them all myself haha. Everything was delicious, and above all, unique. All the sweet pastries are made with this lighter than air dough that just melts in your mouth. Let me first say that this place is well worth the trouble. The food is absolutely, 100% amazing. Even their standard loaves of white bread are something that makes you happy just thinking about someday down the road consuming. That said, they really put the "French stereotype" into action... they aren't the easiest business to do business with. * They are bakery that doesn't open until 9a. This means you're likely to drive right past them on your way to work. * Even if you arrive after 9a, the foods aren't out on the shelves for 30 minutes or more after opening (this has happened three times) * If you don't know what the foods are already, a near total lack of usable data on the placards next to each item and/or the very limited English capabilities of the staff means that you're largely guessing as to what to get. (This is particularly irritating if you're new to Korean French pastry consumption...) Again, the food really is THAT good...which almost (but not quite) makes up for the supreme hassle. read more
