Really interesting French inspired bakery with Chinese influence. It was packed when I stopped in and I can see why. I got a rice doughnut with red bean paste, a blueberry cornet and a red bean mochi. The doughnut's flavor was really good but it was so greasy I wouldn't get it again. I was excited when I found out TLJ was opening in the city! I have been here several times since they have opened. Decent selection of Asian baked goods. All the breads are very soft and pillowy, and fillings are a little more on the sweeter side. Definitely on the pricier side but worth it for the quality of the bread. The cakes are a must try for any special occasion, they're very moist and not overly sweet. I was a little disappointed this location didn't have some of the baked goods the Arlington Heights location carries (like the cheese and milk bread!). Great addition to the Chinatown! Love the decor, love the ambience. You can just get a bite and work at a station - it is just like a mainstream Starbucks. But the snacks are soo soo much better than Starbucks can ever be. Unfortunately we got there much closer to their closing time and a lot of the items were already gone. The place has a unique concept of picking out your items on a tray and checking out at the counter - it is fun to see everything on display and since everything looks soo tempting, picking out becomes very difficult. We got the Sausage and Onion Pastry - Yummy! Must have. Their pastries are so pretty and so unique. If you want looking for vintage kinda cake and pastry items, you should swing by! Also breads - great variety of breads is something you can get here - milk or honey based ones that are usually not easily available. They also have a cafe with couple of unique drinks I have not seen/heard before! Absolutely the worst service you could ask for if you are a person of color. They subtly express how they do not want Black customers and will do anything to racially profile. Another person I know visited here on 1/17/2023 and was racially profiled because of an "odor" in the room nowhere near them. Love this bakery! It has everything from savory bread to sweet breads to pastries to cakes. I tried their sweet cream fruit pastry, cream chocolate pastry and their tiramisu cake. It was yum, yum, yum! So light, airy and perfectly sweet - didn't taste over or artificially sweet. The taste reminded me of bakeries in India and Paris where there is a delicate balance of the sweetness in a dessert. It was simple and delicious. The ambience and service was quick, easy and breezy. I didn't feel rushed even though there were a lot of customers in line and a lot of people in and out of the bakery. I am so glad to know about this bakery. I've put off venturing to this location of TLJ based on a lot of lackluster reviews which echo the issue of "style over substance", but after partaking in some soup dumplings and pork belly from Hing Kee, literally 5 steps away from TLJ's doorstep, I decided to throw caution to the wind and finally give this place a shot. The interior is adorable and homey, though I could see it becoming difficult to maneuver through the same spaces between display containers should it ever be busy. There were 3-4 staff members, 3 of which seemed to be roaming about restocking the shelves. We were never greeted or offered any help when perusing through the variety of baked treats, but that didn't bother me as I had prior knowledge of what was being offered. It's hard to not be overwhelmed by the vast array of options provided: cakes in one corner, savory breads and croissants, filled donuts, buns, fresh and OH so soft loaves of bread. They are all so beautiful to look at, it may even be hard to imagine eating them. We settled on a cream soboro, pan aux raisin, and a green tea cream filled bread loaf, which came out to about $12. I wasn't in the mood for coffee, tea, or any of the bottled drinks they had sitting in a small refrigerated shelf by the seating area, but I can definitely see myself returning for a cuppa and another cream soboro. The texture of the soboro was like......what I imagine a cloud would be if you combined it with a stuffed goose feather stuffed pillow. If you combed that gooses down 100 times a day with a Maison Pearson brush. It was filled to the brim with a semi sweet fluffy cream that was simply a delight to eat. I ate half of it with a side of tart strawberries and enjoyed myself far too much. I was also filled with regret over the decision to share the other half with my companion. She devoured her pan aux raisin happily after warming it up a bit in a microwave. I have yet to try the green tea cream bread but I'm expecting a delicious outcome. Don't listen to reviews and experience this bakery for yourself before developing an opinion! It may be well worth the risk. read more

Since the soft opening the amount of the butter cream has gone down but still doable. I was still willing to pay $6 every time. But the last 2 loaf I got has less than half the amount, instead a small squirt of cream through out the entire 2 loaves. This is so disappointing and completely unacceptable. I called twice now to talk with the manager but no manger around. I left a message with my number and no one has called me back either. I will not be going back there and would like my money back. It's so infuriating to go all the way down there from where I live (about 9 miles away) and be so disappointed. After calling the store 3 times and leaving several messages, manager finally called me back. Apologized and told me that no one was monitoring the quality of the baked goods. She told me to pick another 2 loaves next time I stop by and that she's going to make sure the quality is better. So I did stop by and huge improvement! It doesn't smell like a bakery but it most definitely is. Bread on bread on bread. The softest fluffiest bread you could ever squish. Only these are mostly filled breads. Filled breads? Yep, filled with buttercream, fruit, chocolate, red bean, cream cheese, cream cheese with fruit. They also have gorgeous cakes - whole cakes and slices. Annnnd spoonable cheesecake - cake, fruit, cream cheese cake and crumble topping. Take your brunch to the next level and get a raisin loaf or sweet potato loaf for French Toast. Grab a pack of chiffons or macarons as a gift. Find a quick snack or light lunch in a spicy sausage roll , sausage danish or croque monsieur. Or have them make q fresh sandwich. This spot looks small but there is quite a bit of seating in the back. Tow entrances, from inside Chinatown Square or enter from the parking lot. This is am impressive bakery in that the options are so varied. This is supposeed to be a French bakery but I think you'd find more tradition French pastries in places like Vanille Patisserie. I popped by this place thinking it would be a mom-pop shop but instead it felt like I was transported to a Parisian bakery. It's a well-decorated bakery with many options for fresh baked goods and coffee. Due to the Asian background of the bakery, it was so cool seeing such diverse options like a mango creme bun and a cheese/sausage braided bread. For our visit, we got a couple of macaroons and some coffee. The coffee was a great dependable option, and the macaroons were nice and soft. Their flavors were also a bit exotic. We decided to get the matcha tea. If you wanted to get some of the larger baked goods, then don't forget to get a tray to place them on to check out. Overpriced, some of the staff can be rude, but they have some good options in the baked goods department. This bakery has a lot of different items to choose from, some more adventurous than others. You can take a tray and go to town in the selection, or you can grab and go - your choice. Be cautious on having an appetite when coming in, because their items will add up. I got a single macaroon for $3 and a little pastry for the same. A staff member came up to me, so I asked them if they could grab me a macaroon behind the glass, and she said "no, because I am helping someone else" and just walked away! This is a French-Asian bakery in Chinatown Square. PARKING is $2/hr all around the square unless you're fortunate to find a free spot alongside China Place. Or take the red line in and walk a couple blocks to the square. They open at 9am, which should open earlier considering they are a bakery. St Anna's bakery, being a few doors down, is open at 8am. So Tous Les Jours lose the "early risers" looking for their morning routine caffeine and sweet pairing. But I found even if you come in at 9am you'll find most of the shelves are empty because they are STILL, very graciously, putting out the baked goods. I sat for an hour and they only managed to fill the shelves up 15/20% more than when I walked in at 9:15am. But if you come in around 2pm, most of the shelves will look like they did at 9:15am. Empty. Best time to come is before or during lunch. Shelves are pretty stocked with a huge variety of goods. The place is pretty clean. About 13-14 tables. With a few couches. Jazz music playing throughout. Outlets throughout the place to charge your electronics. It's not a quiet place, but it can be if you come early or at a slow time. The daily BAKED GOODS are SO good though. The soft, fluffy, sweet, you just can't stop eating them good. Everything is packaged nice and pretty. I like their "Pain Aux Raisin" ($2.50) as well as their enough for 2 "Spoonable Strawberry Cheesecake", found in the refridgerated glass case where you need assistance to get is ($6.00). But I wish they had a better system of getting ppl in and out. One could get confused where to stand to check out with all the ppl looking or picking out their baked goodies. The staff seems and looks scared when it gets busy. They give each other looks as if they are relying on one another to do the job. As for COFFEE, I wasn't a fan of their drip coffee. I don't think they change them out as often as they should. It tasted like burnt old coffee, so instead I got their Americano which is similarly priced the same as Starbucks at $2.50/12oz cup. Taste -wise, it's a lot lighter, but def not as bold as Starbucks version. If I don't want to make the walk over to Starbucks, I would settle for this.
