Today is our third time having breakfast or brunch at this Pancake house conveniently located near our campground in Townsend Tennessee. It has been very chilly in the mornings here and the restaurant has outside seating that gets the warm fall sun. Since we are trying to be as careful as we can, but enjoying ourselves, this place is perfect. We are able to park our RV in the parking lot and that's a plus, since the doggie girls are safe inside. We have had everything from the Denver Omelet to the Pancakes and Sausage. Dave says they are best pancakes he has ever had! Shucks he gets all the good stuff! Our waitress and owner Brianna served us promptly with multiple refills of coffee. The food is plentiful, southern and definitely comforting. Where do I begin?! This place is incredibly over priced. 3 people and the bill was $62. We didn't order anything out of the ordinary. Bacon and eggs, one pancake with bacon, country fried steak and eggs. The food was mid at best. Very basic. The country fried steak tasted like it was frozen and came from a box and just thrown in a deep fryer. But hey, the coffee was ok. I've never thought I'd pay that much for food that bad... ever! And to top it off, it was a rainy morning and there was a leak in the ceiling right in the middle of the dining room. ‍‍‍ I don't understand how this place gets 5 star ratings. The table was dirty and had a used napkin on it. We ordered omelettes. The offering three breakfast meats only included two of them but those were well done as expected. One person asked for well done hash browns and the waitress acknowledged he wanted them crispy; they came lightly browned and warm but not a bit crispy. The grits were warm and well prepared, the biscuits nice but both omelettes were served cold. Decided to try out the pancake house for breakfast while visiting Townsend as it received decent reviews. Upon arriving about 8:00 I noticed the tables were far apart for social distancing. I don't know if this is the regular layout or not. My waitress wore a face mask although it sometimes didn't cover her nose. She was the only worker that was wearing a face mask. The waitress was nice. The food came out quickly. I think she checked on us once but didn't ask if we needed refills, not a huge deal. I ordered the western omelet. The kids ordered pancakes and waffles with bacon. The bacon was crisp which is how I like it. The omelet was pretty good. The omelet came with hash browns, hard to mess hash browns up. The waffles and pancakes were ok. The waffles were better than the pancakes. I have some really good breakfast places in southern Indiana and Louisville so it takes a bit to get me excited over a breakfast. Most people can't remember the exact place they experienced the worst meal of their life. I don't have that problem. It was right here at Townsend Pancake House. From the sweat drenched waitress, to the tang/piss mix they call orange juice, the red paper they call bacon and the bottle of Log Cabin syrup that came from a dumpster in the 70s then was refilled with off brand Karo syrup, this place serves prison food at a premium price. If you're in the Smoky Mountain area and you'd like to spend $15 to see what pancakes and bacon taste like in the penitentiary, this place should be a real treat for you. However, if you're hungry and in the mood for quality breakfast food like I was, avoid this place at all cost. My sister and her 4 kids along with myself and my daughter went in for a very late lunch. So late they were technically closed. They welcomed us in took our order and served us a fantastic meal. My friends and I decided to stop for breakfast while the dense fog on the first morning of our visit lifted in the Park. The Townsend Pancake House was busy when we went by, so we figured it must be good. Oh how we were wrong. After waiting a half hour outside in the cold, we were shown to our table. After another half hour wait, we were told by our server that the kitchen was backed up and there would be another wait before our order would be ready. So far, we understood and were okay because that's just the way it is during the pandemic, especially when a place is busy. However, one member of our group of three asked for a glass of water to go with his coffee and that request was quickly forgotten. Then we were ignored. When our order was finally served (and not by our server), the glass of water was again requested. Before this person left, our server came running out of the kitchen who practically dove across the table to grab the meal placed in front of the person who had asked (twice) for the water proclaiming that that meal was not meant for him whisking it away from the table. So while the other two of us started into the orders served to us, the person whose meal was taken away just sat there....waterless. (I should also tell you that a request was also made for hot sauce by the another person in the group before the meal was taken, which never was provided.) While waiting for the correct meal to be served, a third server came by to refresh the coffee cups and a new request was made for water...which again ignored. (By this point, the hot sauce was no longer needed.) Finally, the correct meal was served, we finished, and left (one of us being parched). But, you may ask, how was the food? I can't speak for the two others in my group, but I ordered the pancakes (this was, after all, a pancake house) and what I was served were ice cold, chewy, flavorless discs, obviously sitting in the kitchen for some time before being served...without real butter, only a "buttery taste spread"...and with store bought syrup! So, if you are ever in the area and there is a thick fog, go into the Park instead of stopping for breakfast because seeing nothing will be so much more enjoyable than pancakes at the Townsend Pancake House! read more

Even at the Cracker Barrel cooks there pecans in pancake batter, and sad to say... the Cracker Barrel serves a much better pancake! I ordered two sausage patties, thinking that if the pancake wasn't good, that it was difficult to serve sausage when both were served, they were cold. I love family owned restaurants! They are all unique. The service here is phenomenal! The food is delicious! The food came out quickly! The kids had pancakes and bacon, and the wife and I had an omelet and sausage biscuit. All of the food was delicious. The reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the coffee was not the best, and there was no children's menu option. We paid $55 for our family of six, which is about $9.50/person. If there was a children's menu, we may have saved a few bucks. If you get juice instead of coffee, you will likely have a 5 star experience. There is wonderful coffee right up the road. read more

The service was decent and the only highlight of our experience. In summary, a long wait for mediocre, overpriced food. My wife enjoyed her pecan pancakes. We assumed the pecans would be cooked into the pancakes but instead a handful were tossed on top. My French toast and potatoes came out cold. Fifteen minutes or so later a new dish of cold potatoes came out with French toast. In lieu of the bad experience, our server took off the cost of our milk. Lastly, the owner of the restaurant sat in the booth directly behind us. He has no clue and seems totally oblivious of what goes on in his restaurant, not noticing that I sat waiting for my food while my wife ate. We'd originally planned on going elsewhere for breakfast but that place wasn't open so thought we'd try this spot. We'd been here prior to the name change and the food was decent so we had high hopes. Upon entering we were asked for our name and told to wait outside. About 10-15 minutes later they came and got us and sat us in the booth next to the door. Flies proceeded to bombard us from the moment we sat down. Ok. I get it. It's summer, flies happen. We didn't let this deter us. I'm retrospect we should have listened to the flies. Husband ordered ribeye and eggs breakfast with a side of biscuits and gravy and I opted for a Philly cheesesteak omelette. We both requested toast and "taters" as our sides. After a long wait and more flies.. we got our food. My cheesesteak omelette turned out to be a paper thin egg wrapped around a stack of unseasoned Steak-umms with some white cheese on top. If you've ever cooked Steak-umms you know there is always some water that leaks out when cooked from frozen. They apparently cooked them inside the egg "wrapper" because the inside was ... wet. No peppers or onions (I apparently missed this part on the menu.) There was a slice of something plasticy that resembled cheese on top. After one bite I peeled it off. My taters ended up being hard crunchy hash browns and the toast, while apparently made with homemade bread appeared to have been set on the griddle for half a second and removed. Wasn't buttered, browned or crispy at all. Hubby's "steak" looked like one of those "20 ribeyes for $30" steaks. It had the texture of ground, pressed meat and zero flavor. The taters were plain, unseasoned potatoes cut into chunks and kinda brownish on one side. Again, bland.. some onion cooked with them would have really helped. The biscuit seemed decent but the gravy was absolutely canned sausage gravy. I can say this without a doubt because it had a very distinct flavor and I immediately recognized it because we used to purchase the same canned gravy from a restaurant supply store in Knoxville. The women's room is very cramped for the size of the place.. had to wait to get in and then almost hit someone with the door coming out of the stall. When I sat down, the toilet moved. A lot! I carefully finished while trying not to make too much noise. When I stood up I looked down and saw that the entire bottom of the commode was broken. It was just sitting there presumably being held in place by the gasket on the bottom. Thankful not to have fallen through the floor I went to the sink to wash my hands and saw.. a bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Apparently the soap dispenser ran out so they threw a bottle of dish soap in there for people to wash up with. Overall we were severely disappointed with this experience and won't be back. read more
