Due to some weird staffing shortage situation, the restaurant was closed, so we sat at the bar to eat our lunch. So not particularly comfortable, especially since the bar is in the lobby and we had a lot of comings and goings happening behind us. The bartender was friendly, and reasonably competent. The establishment seems to have some kind of marketing agreement with Southern Comfort (the booze), so it was not entirely clear whether menu items with "Southern Comfort" in their names had to do with the name of the establishment or the name of an ingredient. My wife had the Low Country Wedge Salad. We both like a good wedge salad, and this certainly qualified. This one, instead of the more typical diced tomatoes had sliced apricots. I think having that change in the fruit portion of the salad is a nice change-of-pace. (BTW, I can't imagine why more restaurants don't offer a Wedge Salad, because there are approximately no materials or labor costs involved in putting it on a plate, but it does require an excellent blue cheese dressing.) I had the Slow-Smoked Pulled Pork with Southern comfort BBQ Sauce. I thought that the pork and sauce were decent, but not outstanding. The fries were the style with a coating that allows a restaurant to make them crispy if they don't know how to make crispy fries. I enjoyed them well enough, though I have been pretty much disappointed with the state of French Fries everywhere I've been in Tennessee, with a singular exception. We ended with the Southern Comfort Beignets, which were good enough, but nothing like some of the better beignets we've had. Not sure where to start... It seemed like it was going to be a great place. It looks nice, cozy, maybe even a little upscale. Our host-slash-server (multitasking king!) was quick to seat us, take our order, and bring drinks -- efficiency level: impressive. But that's where things took a turn. A black bear wandered up outside, and I'm not saying it was his spirit animal, but our server apparently took it as a sign from the universe -- because he walked right out the door and never came back. Like, poof. Gone. We sat there, confused but committed, eating our meals in silence like kids whose dad said he was going out for milk. No one else seemed to notice that our server had vanished into the wilderness. Eventually, we flagged down what I think was the bus boy and asked for boxes and the check. This restaurant is located at the Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort, and since I was staying there, I tried this place out a few times. The food is not great, and the service is either fantastic or very slow. One thing that was amazing though was the sweet potato fritters. These are not listed as a side item on the menu, but they are insanely good, and you can order a side of them if you ask. I also sat at the bar and ordered a sangria flight. It was pretty good, and I felt it was a good value for the price. They only had one bartender working though, and it took a really long time to get refills. If you are staying at the resort, you can't beat the convenience of eating here, but it's definitely not worth driving here if you are not staying on-property. read more

We stopped by for breakfast on our first morning during our stay. The restaurant had a few patrons dining as we came in and we were sat down right away. We had drinks and appetizers to begin the dinner. The fried tomatoes were great, the deviled eggs were delicious and the okra was amazing. Everyone was pleased with their entree. Located at Westgate Resort and just across from the Gatlinburg visitor center this is a convenient spot for anyone staying at the resort who does not want to head out for lunch or dinner. There were only two servers the night we went so the wait was a little long. The leather seats next to the fire place were super comfie for waiting though and gave a relaxed vibe before seating at our table. Like.... Sooooo comfie I almost didn't want to get up!! Brian our server was kind. I ordered the sirloin steak rare with a side salad. My husband ordered a side of mashed potatoes. The selling was large and cooked ok. The grill marks and seasoning were perfect. The steak was a little cold and tough. I don't think I would order it again but I was thankful the chef took my allergies seriously and I didn't get sick. My husband enjoyed his Mac and cheese. The balsamic dressing on the salad was really good ... I would for sure order this again. Well I found no comfort in this food. Portions are smallish. The chicken and dumplings were quite watery and bland tasting. I've had canned that was better. The accompanying biscuit probably came from frozen and was quite flat. The creamed corn had a weird flavor and seemed to have a cheese sauce base? Service was okay but nothing special. I asked for some plain rice for my grandchild and was charged $7 for about 1/2-3/4 cup of rice. Wish they would have let me know this was the price. The only good part of our visit is the restaurant is very nicely decorated and getting in was easy. I don't see myself going back. read more

Seems like Southern Comfort is one of those traditional hit-or-miss spots, and my visit landed squarely on "miss." Waited 30 minutes for a chicken Caesar, only for it to show up drowning in Italian dressing with Caesar on the side. The chicken was dry, cold, and sad. For that wait, I expected better. I really was looking forward to g forward to some good food. After eating there twice now I can really give it a proper review. I would say I would skip dinner and supper. I hade the meatloaf and it was dry and over cooked. Wife had the fried chicken and it was just ok. Breakfast on the other hand was good. Everything seamed to be cooked fresh and it showed. My children and I visited Southern Comfort on Mother's Day for breakfast around 9:45am, after checking out from the Westgate Resort. We were greeted and seated within seconds and our waitress was kind and attentive. I ordered the Banana Foster and it was pretty good, no real complaints there. My daughter ordered the 3 stack pancakes and they were HUGE! Overall, the food and service were good. My ONLY complaint was the 'stink bug' that was at our table. I notified the waitress and she grabbed it with her hand and took it away lol. It wasn't a huge deal because thankfully it wasn't in our food, but I had to remove stars because of it. read more

Great food, great ambiance. They might be short-staffed and take a while, but that's understandable. Don't expect fast service when you're visiting the most popular national park in the U.S., where the tourist-to-local ratio is about 20 to 1. I was really surprised at how good our meal was at Southern Comfort. Being in the middle of a resort, the ambiance of the bar and restaurant is high end log cabin and very pleasing. We went for a late lunch early dinner. My six family members and I raved about the food. The service was attentive and friendly. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with Red Beans & Rice on the side. The sandwich was good, but the red beans and rice were great! I also ordered the signature old fashioned and it lived up to expectations. Other highlights included the catfish bites and the biscuits which my wife and daughters said were among the best they've ever had. Following the meal, we drove to Clingman's Dome and walked to the top. I managed not to throw up or have a heart attack, so that was a great way to top off the day. We arrived at 6 pm and weren't sure where to enter from the parking lot (tip: it's up the stairs, through the lobby) and a helpful hotel staff member showed us where to go. We were sat right away. Food and drinks came quickly. The staff was super attentive and friendly. And the view inside was even more beautiful than we expected from the outside. The General Manager stopped by our table to check on us. I believe his name was BJ. Maybe TJ? In either case he was fantastic! Welcoming, ready to help and clearly running a great team. The portions are huge! Be ready to take home leftovers. My husband and I decided to stop in the lobby bar for drinks after dinner and it was really nice. The fireplace has big comfy chairs you can sip your drinks in front of and stay warm. The entire experience was so good, we immediately looked into getting a room there on our next visit. Which got them the two stars. Why not just grab a meal and relax here? When we got there we were warned they were short staffed but we waited about 15 minutes before being approached to order drinks. We went ahead and ordered food at the same time. Probably another 15-20 minutes go by before getting waters and the same amount before bar drinks arrived. Bar drinks were well gone before the food arrived. The smoked bourbon was very good and I had the boozy mint lemonade both were wonderful. My husband ordered the bbq plate but it came out cold and did not come with everything listed on the menu ($38) The chicken wings were hot and good but not worth the hour wait. I had a wedge salad that was good but I saw several brown spots. Nothing that couldn't eaten around. My husband ordered a beer before the meal arrived and it didn't arrive until they noticed we were looking around for the check. We were going to tip standard 20% and give the benefit of the doubt on service, which we did. But for some reason when we went to pay the bill the waitress decided to stick around and loom over the table. The most attention we had all night which seemed really rude.
