1/18/21- This was probably one of the longer waits I've had to make for boba. There was such a long line, both for ordering and for pick-up. I was curious about the popularity so I had to give it a shot! -Jasmine green milk tea with pineapple jelly (50% sweetness, less ice)- The jasmine milk tea was quite delicious! It had light floral notes and the green tea was very smooth. Sometimes green tea can be too astringent for me but the tea quality was pretty pleasant. The milk wasn't too heavy either and with a little bit of tang from the pineapple jelly, the drink had delicious fruity and floral tones. -Store ambience and experience- The store itself was very clean and modern. There was one line for ordering and another line around the corner for people waiting for their drinks. People were actually getting confused and lining up in the wrong line so I hope they can make a clearer distinction next time. We waited about 10-15 minutes to order and another 10-15 minutes before getting our drinks. I've never seen so many people in line at one boba chain, especially since this location isn't particularly new. -Price/value- I paid about $6 for my drink. Came to check out TP Tea after hearing so much great reviews about it! There is usually a long line, unless you come at an off hour, maybe afternoon or before dinner time? TP Tea, it stands for Taiwan Professional Tea. I am not sure if it is true, but I heard that this is the sister chain of Chun Shui Tang, one of the most famous Boba shop in Taiwan! (I have yet tried Chun Shui Tang, so I can't compare lol) I've tried the classic Taiwan milk tea, Tie Guan Yin milk tea, Taro milk tea, and Passionfruit green tea, and my favorite is the classic Taiwan milk tea. The classic Taiwan milk tea in Chinese is called childhood memory milk tea, and I would say that the first time I tried that drink, it actually kinda tasted like my childhood! But I am not a big fan of the QQ noodles in that drink, so I'd recommend just getting the classic milk tea and add boba or toppings you like. I personally do not like the passionfruit green tea, I always wanted to try it because it looks super refreshing! I got it once for a friend and he didn't like it, then I tried myself at my last visit. The drink can only be made as 0% or 100% sweetness, and it is not possible to adjust the ice level (I ordered it twice and requested no ice both times, but it still came with ice). TP Tea falls into the category of classic done flawlessly. It exemplifies the quintessential, iconic, Taiwanese milk tea, the OG (boba tea originated in Taiwan). I got a tie guan yin (an oolong) milk tea with boba, 50% sweet, no ice. Strong, full tea flavor without being overpowering. Delicate, smooth, not bitter. Emphasis on tea, not on milk or boba or sugar or flavorings or toppings. This is the beverage that comes to mind when I think of milk tea. The boba was a tad soft for me, I prefer a little more chew. The menu is set up really well. Enough options to satisfy, doesn't take forever to read and figure out. Ordering system is smooth, they have everyone wait outside (and there's shade) with a PA system calling out numbers when orders are ready. Only thing I would say is it'd help if they either got an outside speaker or kept the side door open, it's a little hard to hear the numbers unless you're close to the door. If you plan on visiting this store, please order ahead and check the wait time! I'm a huge fan of TP Tea, but was extremely disappointed when visiting this location. My order of 2 drinks had a total wait time of 45 mins. I ordered ahead with an estimated wait time of 32 mins, however when I arrived at the store, after my wait time was over, my order was still incomplete and still in progress. I had to wait an additional 10mins for my order to be made. Truly disappointed with this service time. I understand that they only have 4 staff on the floor, however I noticed at multiple times during my wait in the store, the employees would stop making drinks to talk about the World Cup. At that point, it was evident why my drink had such a long wait time. I hope this review helps TP Tea to create a better consumer experience and be more mindful of how long a drink needs to be made. The tea flavor was light and floral, which is characteristic of tie guan yin. The tea to milk ratio was good, so even though the tea had a light flavor, it still had a nice body and complemented the richness of the milk. I also liked that the drink wasn't too sweet because too much sweetness can overpower the tea flavor. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that it had a really long line, so unless I'm craving this place specifically, I'll probably go to one of the many other boba places nearby. All I could hear was the music and their kiosk system making a "ding" sound whenever a in-store or online ordered came in. I think his name is XuMing, at least that's what I heard the other employees calling him. He was very polite and had a smile on his face when speaking to customers. The most popular drink is probably Tie Guan Yin Milk Tea, which is an oolong tea. Ordering the Tie Guan Yin, Pearl Milk Tea, or Taiwan Classic Milk Tea (has grass jelly, boba, and qq noodles - another chewy textured topping) are all safe options. I haven't tried their fruit teas too many times but from what I've heard those aren't as special. For TP Tea, I think sticking to the milk tea flavors are the best bet. The last couple of times I have been here the wait has been about 45 minutes (I would stand around close to check at the front and ask multiple times just to be told no) and once I receive the drinks have been subpar. Subpar as in ice almost fully melted, drink is borderline lukewarm and very very skimpy on the topping (that I paid extra for AND I ask for regular ice!). The boba is good, but the service is non-existent. I mean, literally. You walk in, and they make you fill everything out on a kiosk (i.e. doing the cashier's job for them). They don't even greet you or look at you when you walk in. They don't care that you're there. The employees just talk with each other. There's a plastic protector all around the counter/kitchen area (a holdover from the pandemic), and it's basically as if you're watching a kitchen from behind a one-way mirror in an interrogation room. They have nothing to do with you at all. You walk in, you punch in your own order on the iPad on a stand, you type in your mobile phone number (required to buy freaking boba), and you wait until you get a text. And you talk with no one. Wow, what a warm and welcoming experience. Makes me really want to come back. Tipping in general has really gotten out of hand, but what really drives me nuts is when places like this--places that literally make you serve yourself--still have the audacity to ask for tips. The kiosk here still asks you if you want to tip 18%, 20%, or 25% (not sure if those are the exact percentages, but you get the idea). What is the tip for? Who am I tipping? I did all the work myself. Hell, you should be giving ME a discount for doing YOUR job. Sure, you can tip 0% if you want, but it's still ludicrous to ask for anything at all when they did nothing besides *make the drink*, which is what the original price of the drink is for. Long story short, the picture on the door dash is different then the name. On DoorDash: the picture is tie guan yin cheese creama , the price is $5.75, same as the cheese creama. Stopped by here after eating at the udon place next door. Initially, when we were waiting to be called for a seat at the udon place, there was no line at TP Tea. But once we finished dinner, the line was out the door. Swear we waited longer for milk tea than we did for the udon... I think this was actually the longest I've ever waited for milk tea (we were number 371 and they were on 335). It wasn't that bad though because I had good company to help make the wait go by fast. I decided to try the Taiwan Classic Milk Tea which came with pearls, qq noodle, and grass jelly. I wanted to sub the qq noodle for something else since I didn't know what it was, but the cashier said for this drink in particular, there were no substitutions allowed. So I said okay, can I just take it out then? Not possible either which I thought was weird. I'll let it slide since they are fairly new. But hopefully, later on, there will be an option for substitutions/removal. The qq noodles turned out to be very interesting in texture. It wasn't bad! You can sample it beforehand if you're curious. Anyhoo, the drink itself was really good. I got it 80% sweet and 30% ice. According to the sign they have up by the cashier, it's either 100% / 30% (less ice) / 0% (no ice). Not sure if you can play around with that and do 50-75%. The settings I chose were perfectly fine with me and not too sweet.
