The Manager told me He could not help me and he was sorry! Just call the Costa Mesa police was all he could do for me. Neighbors - I was robbed at Traders Joe's yesterday around 10 am in the morning while shopping inside the store. They (thief's) target that store because they know they have NO INSIDE CAMERAS. The Costa Mesa Police, who I filed a report with stated that they target shoppers when the store is busy, seniors and people with children who may get distracted. They work in teams and will either bump into you and then ask you questions, while the other person either steals your purse or bags or reaches into your bags and grabs what they can while you are turned. They took my wallet and two pairs of prescription glasses in a flash. The CM Police also stated they target that store because of the close proximity to freeway and 17th where they can access other stores quickly to use the funds before you realize your belongings are gone. They target the parking lots, while you are loading your groceries into car or trunks and your doors are unlocked and belongings easy access. Within 12 minutes they were using my credit cards and debit card to TRY AND charge over $3K at Ralphs and Staples and At & T on 17th Street. They got all my cash as well. I've been shopping at this location for YEARS! I love the layout, selection, and employees! The flower selection at this location is also one of the bigger ones I've seen in a Trader Joe's which is nice! They recently started bringing back food samples which is awesome too! The only negative thing I could say about this store is that sometimes their berries have mold on them at the store or are already wilting. TJs is my absolute favorite grocery store. This store, which has been on 17th Street somewhere for 15 years, is my favorite TJs (besides the original in Pasadena). And, to top it off, this TJ has a WINE BAR. Having a large lot and its closeness to PetsMart has made it easy for quick (for me, an impossibility) trip to pick up a quick snack or an inspired meal. I was just at Trader Joe's and my cashier (Ellen M.) was probably having a bad day, I did wish she was not so frustrated with my family merely being checked out, we did have a full cart full of meals for the week. She was absolutely awful, mentioning that she had a "TON TO DO" and scanning our groceries felt like an inconvenience. What's worse is our children were witnessing this treatment. Although she was not pleasant, I still love Trader Joe's. John was able to save the day as he could tell we were having an awful experience and offered our 5 year old a pumpkin. We usually go to Trader Joe's off Brookhurst where the manager named Eddie is always friendly. Despite this encounter I do hope Ellen is coached to treat people with love and respect. We still love Trader Joe's and I hope we have a better experience. read more

With all the restaurants closed and big chain grocery stores picked over, it's been hard to get any produce or decent food. Trader Joe's is stocked (3/19 @ 5:30 pm) and limiting the amount you can buy to 1 or 2 of each and limiting the number of shoppers in the store. Feels a bit like normal again! The store manager came at me and yelled in my face about my SERVICE dog (who was wearing a labeled vest) , she wouldn't let me speak to inform her I was physically unable to carry my dog before she told me he had to go right now and watched me pick him up and then she walked away to talk about me to another employee. Not only was this incredibly embarrassing but no way to speak to a regular customer let alone one who was obviously not trying to cause a problem. I have a back injury and carrying a 30 pound dog wasn't exactly good for me. I will not be shopping here again. read more

I went to this Trader Joe's on 17th street yesterday around 10:30am 3/17/2020 (during Covid19) The store manager was outside waiting to form a line if needed and greeting all customers entering the store. There are signs posted on the doors that there is a two item limit on most everything in the store and the manager and employees were reminding people about that. They were only allowing a small number of people in the store at a time to try and let the social distancing happen inside. The store was beautiful! It was very well stocked with everything except paper goods, and dry goods such as pasta and rice. The produce, meats, bakery, and dairy isles, looked beautiful with only a few things missing. Everyone in there was thanking the store employees who were on the floor to help people find what they need to get in and out quickly. The experience gave me a lot of hope. read more

I find the staff is always friendly and helpful when you can't find what your looking for. Excellent selection of fresh and frozen foods. They are generally well stocked when I'm there, and the lines aren't usually too bad, they staff the checkouts really well. I would say the downside is I haven't always had the best luck with produce - it's a real hit or miss depending on the day so I go in prepared to get all the basics and decide if the produce looks fresh or maybe if it's towards the end of restocking I will go somewhere else(but to be honest, most grocery stores can be like that so I wouldn't dock a star). read more

I actually found the store a bit confusing and had some trouble finding the items I needed because I was wandering around back and forth so much. On the other hand, this store does have everything kept nice and neat, as with all the other Trader Joe's I've been to and the employees are very friendly and happy. This is a more spacious TJs than what I'm accustomed to (the one in LA are usually itty bitty) so maybe that's why I got confused? Aside from the layout, everything else is on par with the usual high standards that all TJs have and the wide selection for very affordable prices are what keeps me coming back! Super spacious, clean and organized. Checkout was a lil rough. I noticed two people at every register as my mom and I were walking up to the front. One, I assume, checking and the other bagging..... After a greeting from the cashier, I bagged the items while the associates were talking about outside work life. Then my mom was asked to take the cart out by the second. I just left trader Joes on 17th. I was looking at the blueberries and saw a sign for 24 oz. for $699 but when i looked at the package it was 18 oz. i went up front and spoke to a gentleman behind the counter and he immediately came out and walked with me to the blueberries. He looked at the sign and verified I was correct. They took the sign down and replaced it with the correct one. He thanked me for pointing out the mistake. I went to the cashier and checked out my items. As I was done, he walked over and asked if I had bought the blueberries and I told him no. He handed me the package and said it was on the house. That is the customer service that we always get from them. My wife does the shopping, and she must go to Trader Joes 5 times a week. Just for that reason. I just walked up to front door and found out that I lost my mask. They wouldn't offer complimentary nor sell me one. They also suggested for me to walk Walgreens 1/2 mi away to buy one. Its tricky how to get here in the mornings before work... the streets are a bit odd when it comes down to directional routes. Their products are pretty darn good. A great selection of a snack area all from breakfast on-the-go items to in between meals items. I love their ice cream vanilla bean as well as their fridge food items. While serching for my dairy products I came to find out that they don't carry Califia products. It might be something that they could carry since they are local products and everything else from here is local as well. But overall great ambient. I got to talk to a gent who rung me up, nice chat for a morning talk. Thanks again for that conversation . Maybe it was the the layout that seemed different comparing the layout of this location with my home store. I love coming here to pick up something quick on my lunch break. They have such a variety of wraps, sandwiches, salads, etc for a good grab-and-go! And always at a cheap price! The salads are under $4 and I tend to grab a banana for 19cents to complete the meal. If you come early enough, they have coffee samples along with their daily food samples too! If it's been a long week and you're in the mood for some delicious wine, they have a wine tasting table if you time it right! I went in around 1:30pm on a Wednesday and they were serving the wine samples. This place has a HUGE parking lot so no stress when it comes to finding a spot here. Great place with good prices! There isn't really a reason not to like TJ's. I recently moved to the area and had to locate my nearest TJ's. Yelper Aaron L was kind enough to take me here after we ran a 5K and I was instantly in love (with the store, not him). We browsed the aisles and got our grocery. For a Saturday afternoon, it was surprisingly calm. We found parking quickly and all of the staff was very friendly. This location is different from others because they have a separate area just for wine tasting. Taste to your heart's delight. They won't stop you. You can also sample food pairings. It feels like a mini Costco without the look and feel of an industrial warehouse. I love it here and I'm so happy there's a TJ's nearby. Woohoo! read more

FUlly stocked with tons and tons of goodies, I don't think I have ever not enjoyed anything I have bought here. What could I say about Trader Joe's that you don't already know? Two words: Wine tastings! That's right! TJ's now features wine tastings at many of its locations, including this one, which happens to be my local. Free wine tastings. I enjoyed the two I tried yesterday and bought both. Get thee to TJ's post haste! Now, you may be wondering what makes the Costa Mesa TJ's unique. Well, I'd have to say it's the customers and the employees. The customers are amusing to observe. Many of them remind me of Lucille from Arrested Development. This TJ's is very close to Newport Beach and you'll find many expensive cars in the parking lot. Need I say more? I love the employees here and they really add to the charm of the place. Here's a brief rundown. I actually know many of their names but I won't embarrass them here. By name, anyway: The Wine Guys There are two sommeliers, if you will, who offer great wine recommendations, especially if you're on a budget, and, who isn't these days (except, I guess, for the Lucille-types)? Go with their recommendations. Really Nice Sample Lady All of the sample demonstrators are nice, but one is especially pleasant. She's always smiling. Be polite, don't grab, don't talk with your mouth full, and thank her for the hors d'oeuvre. Dallas Cowboys Fan There's a Dallas Cowboys Fan who works here. I'd call that a serious character flaw. However, he seems to be a genial fellow. Really Tall Woman The tallest woman I've ever seen works here. Please, don't stare! And, no jokes. Like she hasn't heard them all. She's really nice. The Giggler The Giggler is a true character. If she's your cashier, you have to engage her in conversation. Sooner or later, she'll giggle. I'm always disappointed when I don't see her in the store. Surly Dude This guy looks like a big turtle. He might be the only employee here who I really dislike. I may lodge a formal complaint about him one of these days. If I get around to it. Clueless Guy I used to have a George W. Bush Countdown daily calendar. It counted down the days until W was out of office, and it had a silly quote of his for each day. I liked to use them for notes, shopping lists, etc. One day, my SO used it for her shopping list and left it in her handbasket. Clueless Guy picked it up as if it were a turd, and asked her if she needed it back. She took it, and assured him that it wasn't dirty. He replied that he handled it that way because of the "fact" that was on it. Did he really have time to read the whole quote? Was he a Bush-lover or a Bush-hater? I can never complain about TJ's. This is my home store and I love this loc so much. Healthy alternatives await you. Whether your are looking for Kosher, Gluten Free, Non GMO or just scrumptious deliciousness. Its possibly all here. From Kale chips to Peanut Butter and Jelly chocolate bars, its exotic and intriguing - who knew its Grocery Shopping?? Staff is superb. Every time Im either looking for something or trying a sample, there is always a smile. Store is clean and organized. This is the TJ's that carries my fave desserts that are sometimes hard to find at the other locs. I enjoy visiting the Aliso Viejo location as often too since its by my work, but this CM location is always the happiest. Perks: Freshest Flowers, herbs and plants are there to greet you at the entrance. Loc is close to other shopping nearby (PetSmart and Michaels).. also WINE TASTING is here. don't miss it if its your day that its happening :-) WINE Tip: Remember to pick up your 2 Buck Chuck (now has pinot grigio) and if you are a Lambrusco Lover: Try the WHITE Lambrusco. Yummy and bubbly! Downsides: The parking lot here is a bit uncomfortable. Blind spots adorn the entry and exit ways, cars speed up and it can get congested on 17th and Superior so be cautious. This TJ's is conveniently placed close to the freeway and a grocery store I love to stop at, especially if it's on my way home. They have a huge parking lot so no problem there. Every time I've come here, it's fast and easy to find the food items I need. I never wait in line and the cashiers all are super nice and friendly. My only concern is whether or not they are limiting capacity because I've never seen a line. I always am able to walk in and out with no problem. I just wish they had their ube ice cream back haha! read more

The customer service is always great at this location as well. And everyone truly goes out of their way so the customer can have the best shopping experience they can. This is one of the more humble of TJ's chains, mostly because it has been in this little old building on a little side street you could easily miss, and for a long, long time. Don't get me wrong. Its got personality. They have that OC/beach city friendliness (surfer dude/Hawaiian shirt variety) that is typically TJ and just can't be beat, and the products are exactly the same. My favorite memories of this place start with the entry. It feels like an old fashioned flower shop with smells so fragrant. This time of the year, Fall, they carry such wonderful seasonal items to help get you into the spirit of the holidays. They have their pumpkin patch out in front, and strategically placed cinnamon scented brooms just inside the door that tease my olefactory sense unmercifully. Came home with 3 mini broom's for 99 cents each. Breathe in, breathe out. Ooooooo -wahh. Mr. B always heads straight to the wine section here. Why? I don't often come here to shop, but when I do, I expect nothing but the best service. I came looking for some supplies to make some delicious vegan pasta. One of the key ingredients I needed for my homemade dinner was minced garlic. No one is available to help. I asked one of the grocers and he just pointed me in some random direction as if I should know where everything is stocked. This is ridiculous. Then we have these guys at the front staring at everyone as if they don't have anything else better to do like offer help or something OTHER than staring. This entire experience was awful. I happy that TJ is open for seniors from 8-9 every morning But the TJ store at 17st in Costa Mesa is not interested in enforcing the rule Today at 830 am I was in the store and I observed a 30 something women without a mask shopping I went to the front desk and had the following conversation Are you ok with the 30 something woman shopping without a mask? Reply: no I asked: are you going to ask her to leave? Reply: no I asked : are you ok with the fact that she is endangering myself and your customers? Well I have to hand it to this TJs, the people love it. And unfortunately, that is why it gets -1 star. Because whenever I try to park here or walk to my car, the fans of this location are trying to run me down or hit me in some way. They're so focused on getting some grub from here that they aren't paying attention when backing out, coming in or out of the parking lot, or taking up the middle of the lane.
