I'd call this a typical Trader Joe's, but using the word typical, makes it sound demeaning.The store had a lot of registers open and so many employees working stocking the shelves. (A huge plus to a quality store in my opinion!) We asked one employee about the price of an item and he quickly checked it for us with very pleasant demeanor. (You know how some stores have that grunting employee when asked a question.) Our cashier was glad to guide us to his open register and had a very happy attitude. There were also plenty of shopping carts right at the front of the door. This location is always ridiculously packed unless you go REALLY early in the morning or later at night. Huge parking lot but it's always almost impossible to find a parking spot. It's also very easy to miss on Route 17 (if you're from JerZ you know how ridiculous this highway can get). The staff is extremely polite. I go here for their hummus, whole wheat wraps, guacamole, low sodium tomato soup, black bean tortilla chips, chicken, almond butter and other random things I find and want to try. Store Feels Incomplete Eclectic Staff Limited Selection I have been reticent in visiting Trader Joe's as I have more than a few great grocery stores that are more convenient, aside from that went out of my way to visit this unusual location. This seems like a satellite store as their is no bakery, deli, butcher or fish monger to be found here, these items are all prepackaged and trucked in and that is a big strike against this place for me. The layout is odd and the feel is very off in the fact that everything has this thrown together feeling from the moment you enter. Produce was mostly packaged in one way or another, just no signs of life in this department for me this is the hook in any great supermarket. Very small selection of fish and other proteins all packaged somewhere else and placed on shelves here. I went on a Sunday night. Clearly this isn't the best time to go since the shelves were bare, the produce wasn't looking so hot and no one was in sight. And ya know what? I didn't get a great vibe from this shop either, I'm definitely more of a fan of the Edgewater location. Even though this store seems to be bigger, I feel there was less product. I love TJ's but this morning I went specifically to get plant based products and I was really disappointed at the miniscule inventory.

I'm defnitely a fan because there are certain products that I am addicted to and that I cannot live without. I'll break into my famous Julie Andrew's imitation of "These are a few of my favorite things"................ 1. Speculoos--cookie butter. Just so good! If you haven't tried it, you simply must. We have it for dessert with apples. 2. Garlic olive oil. I love drizzling this on asparagus before I put them on the grill. 3. Trader Joe's vinagrette on a salad 4. Candied walnuts. Actually, the entire nut section is amazing. 5. Fresh goat cheese with blueberry. Ditto about the amazing cheese section. 6. The flowers- I recently paid $4.99 for a dozen pale pink Gerbera Daisies. The flowers are always gorgeous, cheap and seasonal. 7. Free samples: There is always coffee, a cold beverage and a food to sample. I have been influenced to purchase certain products after I have had their tasty samples. There are definitely some things I hate about Trader Joes. Some of thier prices are ridiculously high--$4.00 for some sliced up Mango when you can buy a whole mango for $1.00. They also tend to run out of items and discontinue items that you have fallen in love with. read more

They have a good variety but can be sold out if you go later in the day so make sure to come early if you want a popular item. I love Trader Joe's but the last couple of times I shopped there, I have come home to spoiled cheese- my favorite, creamy Toscano soaked in Syrah. When I returned a couple weeks after the mishap, the manager gave me a complimentary cheese to make up for it but that too was spoiled. That happened before with a truffle cheese. Some times the produce would spoil really quickly as well, leading to waste. However, the staff is friendly and so helpful and the location has plenty of parking. read more

Trader Joe's shatters the notion that purchasing organic and healthy foods is a costly endeavor. Even if one is a bit skeptical at first when it comes to shopping at Trader Joe's, any previous assumptions quickly go by the wayside once you step inside. The Paramus location opened a number of years ago right on the ever-busy NJ State Rt 17N, and from the looks of it, has been a rousing success. The actual retail space appears to be a bit bigger than the nearby Westwood location, which is much appreciated when the place is busy (which is almost always). There is a pretty big parking lot up front, but it's also shared with the Office Depot next door and parking can become a bit cramped during peak shopping periods, such as during rush hour. Once inside, you can quickly learn to appreciate the casual, laid-back ambiance that Trader Joe's likes to promote. There are always 4-5 employees on the floor who are very eager to help customers with whatever questions they have (just look for the guys and girls with beaming smiles who are wearing the funky Hawaiian shirts). The place is very clean, the shelves are always well-stocked and organized and there are usually freshly prepared sample offerings as well. The overwhelming majority of products offered are from Trader Joe's own in-house label, in addition to locally sourced foods when possible. The prices are always super competitive and there are no loyalty program points, coupons or price adjusting to worry about. The Trader Joe's philosophy is simply that great food and great prices result in great value, and this is reflected in everything they sell. Well, almost everything-- Their sushi kinda sucks. For people who are expecting an exceedingly large, full-service grocery store, Whole Foods and Fairway (both also in Paramus) are just a few miles away and may better fit their needs. Trader Joe's is more of a niche market which is carving their own path and being more selective in what they sell over trying to compete with the large super-market chains which carry hundreds of different brands and thousands of products. While the selection is smaller, I appreciate a business that focuses on trying to perfect what they offer over just selling as much as possible. This is a pretty good Trader Joes location. I came here a lot in the summer, usually after work or sometimes at lunch time. It was always busy but never super crowded, maybe because of the times that I was there. The employees are helpful although it can be a little tough to find one at times. They usually have what I'm looking for, but I never really came here to buy a whole lot of specific items so it's hard to tell if it was just luck or if they are actually well stocked. It seems smaller than a lot of other TJs I've gone to; not sure if it's because of the shape of the store or if it actually is. Some tips- if you are traveling on 17 south, you don't have to make a u-turn to come here. Just exit on midland avenue and enter from the back (then onto the road across the street from the post office). This Trader Joe's recently renovated so there are a lot more registers, and the lines are never too long. The lines used to take up half the store! Everything is still very easy to navigate and the two sample stations in the front and one in the back are wonderful surprises as you shop around. This store is always super organized and well stocked with the prices clearly displayed, so it's always enjoyable to shop here! Moreover, everyone that works here is super friendly and I have had positive conversations with the staff every time. Unfortunately, this location doesn't have alcohol and I was bummed to hear that they didn't include one when they renovated. read more

This was the second TJs I ever visited. The first was in CA years before. When they came to the NJ area my friends were thrilled. I actually went with one of them the first time because I had a car and they needed a ride there. I thought it was fine. But then I came back a number of times on my way upstate. Have to say, its not a huge place, so you can pick up a few things and get out somewhat quickly. But its Rt 17N, so always busy. And the parking lot simply is not big enough for the traffic. Passing by recently I appreciated the new TJs in Buffalo more. Its just better somehow. Pretty long lines at times. Be prepared to wait. Parking is ok, but its a busy place. read more

What can I say. Everyone knows Trader Joe's. I go here for specific things - like they dried bean medley, Greek yogurt, morello cherries and EVOO. Recently discovered their organic chicken which is a great bargain at 2.99 a pound for cut up. Way cheaper than Whole Foods. Assuming it's really organic - hopefully they have better controls for their suppliers than they did for evoo a few years ago when it was found out the evoo wasn't really as advertised. Along with many other brands too. Bottom line is good. Not everything is wonderful here. Their desserts / cakes and cookies are terrible, but most things are very good and good value. read more

I've been to many Trader Joe's locations, including most in the New York area and even a few in California. This one holds up well among them. This place is generally well stocked, depending on which day you come. Come earlier in the day and you should be able to find anything you're looking for. On some busier weekends, they could be sold out of certain produce items and even some meats. Being a Trader Joe's, there's a great selection of high quality food, including many with organic options. Keep in mind, being that this is in New Jersey, don't expect any alcohol to be sold here. read more

Good prices on a lot of their frozen foods. especially the fish. its cheaper than my local fish market. always have a free sample of food and coffee. the staff is always very helpful if you have a question. I would suggest the frozen kung pow chicken dinner. its 4.99 and I add 2 pieces of raw chicken and some extra veggies to it to make it a great affordable dinner. the eggs are organic and is cheaper than the super market. you can't go wrong here read more

Worth it just to buy squashes: What supermarkets charge per pound, they charge for the whole item. Seasonal items like Christmas stollen from Germany and brussels sprouts on the stalk are also worth a trip. They have a policy of eliminating the poorest selling items, so there is usually something new to try even if you go fairly often. read more

Love love love this store! It's small but has all the unique dishes you won't find anywhere else. I especially like it because it gives me dinner ideas by having daily samples! They have free coffee too while you shop :) their cheese selection is great and right on point with the price. I love their gluten free section. It has the best bread/ toast that is long lasting in my fridge. Their freezer section has a lot of quick meals if you pass by after work and not sure you wanna spend a lot of time in the kitchen to make dinner. I also really like their tea variety and it's very reasonably priced. Give this place a try if you've haven't already. read more

Place is ridiculous too many people. They have a variety of everything one of the largest Trader Joe's I've ever been in but what the use of being there if you can't navigate around the store? Apparently they're going to be expanding. Good thing too many people in Paramus. Disappointed. Very nice customer service though. I can't recommend a good time to go because I, myself haven't found a decent time. It's always crowded inside, which makes it very frustrating to push carts and browse. I never feel like I can look at the products because people are always pushing through. The parking lot is horrific and people leave their carts everywhere. The usual Trader Joe's goodness. I hope TJ's will be everywhere one day; at the same time I hope they won't, to keep it exclusive, something to go out of your way for! You can travel to New Jersey for more than cheap gas, this location on Rt 17 is a winner. Typically no problems with parking and it seems well stocked. No beer or wine at this location however it is next to a Stew Leonard's wine shop (but that's another review). I love this Trader Joe's location. The size of the store, layout, product choices and staff are all wonderful! I am lucky to live and work close so I am in here at least once a week, sometimes more. The only downfall is there is no wine at this site, however there's a Stew Leonard's right next door so no worries. I stopped by this afternoon to pick up a few things with my sister, we needed sugar and we're bummed to see the shelf empty when we got there. I asked one of the team members and he went to check in the back, when he came out empty handed I was upset, however he told me there was a box back there but under some other stuff, I told him not to worry since we had finished shopping but thanked him for trying. We went and got on line to pay and was surprised to see the same guy running up with a box of sugar for us, he stopped everything he was doing to make sure we got what we needed and I was so grateful for that. I didn't want to be a nuisance, but honestly was not looking forward to going to another store for one item. This is just one example with how great the customer service is here. I would definitely recommend Trader Joe's for all types of grocery products, frozen items and snacks. They have so many fun crackers, chips, appetizers and cereals here. The meat and seafood choices are pretty minimal and they don't have a huge produce department so I typically go to Whole Foods for that. All in all I am consistently happy with my shopping experiences at TJs and will continue to be a regular at the Paramus location. read more

This location has a parking lot which is an absolute nightmare. I would love to know how many accidents occur there daily. This parking lot also services a Home Sense store located next to the Trader Joe's. This parking lot is so poorly designed and over crowded it gives me anxiety just being there. This parking lot is a wretched hive of snobby housewives who all believe 30 MPH down an aisle in their over sized SUV is acceptable. If you can find a safe location around the perimeter of the parking lot it is actually quite comical to watch these women drive. This place should be featured on a new TV show called "Worlds Worst Parking Lots" along with the Applebee's/Starbucks parking lot in Northvale. read more

Very very very busy parking lot makes finding a spot extremely difficult. I wouldn't come back for that reason alone.

For those of you that aren't used to the Trader Joe's concept, here's a brief explanation: Trader Joe's is not a supermarket. It is a niche market for pseudo-foodies that don't want to pay Whole Foods or D'Agostino prices. It was never meant to be a place where you could do all of your grocery shopping. If you notice, they only really sell their own items (think higher-end Aldi). It's a place where you get a couple a couple of things that make you happy, like espresso covered almonds, waffle cookies, or 2 Buck Chuck (Charles Shaw wines-only available at the Westwood location). Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's take a look at this store. First, parking can become bothersome during the weekend so try to do your shopping after work or during your lunch break.
