Living on Maui is fantastic except you miss your favourite foods and ease of convenience food, especially Trader Joe's. Whenever I'm in LA I make sure to visit this TJ's to stock up on goodies. Fish curry, caci e pepe, fresh salads, cheeses, wine, macaroni balls, scallion pancakes, cheese popcorn, cowboy caviar, truffle tomato sauce, spices (especially the Georgian hot one), Yuzu hot sauce, chocolate caramels, so many to choose from. I usually bring some condiments and crackers home to tide me over to my next visit. This particular TJs is my fave, always full shelves, easy to navigate, and the staff are always friendly and efficient. Plus easy parking. What's not to like? read more

It's not my normal go-to Trader Joe's, but my day's errands led me to the general area. I bought two boxes worth of Merlot (sometime ago) without realizing one of those boxes was a box of white zinfandel. (Hey, all those boxes are similar, and yeah, I should have been more careful.) I made that realization after some time had passed - and by that, I mean once the box of merlot had been depleted. Given I no longer had my receipt, I made my diligent research to see what their return policy is. It says they will take anything back (at the lowest sale price) without a receipt for a store credit in the form of a gift card. This policy includes alcohol. I figure I could just do a quick exchange for a box of merlot instead. Plus, there were a few TJ items on the grocery list, so the timing was perfect. Line out the door due to COVID19 precautions, but it went by fast. The person manning the doors noticed the box in my cart and asked if I was returning the item. "Yes." He advised me to go straight to a cashier. Cashier called a manager and I informed her of my intentions. Off the bat, she said they're unable to accept the return for liquor without a receipt. I rebutted stating part of their return policy is for them to take the return even without a receipt. I added that the main reason why TJ's doesn't bother requiring a receipt is because their items come from vendors who market exclusively to them. She was a solid no. Didn't feel the need for a debate given she wasn't going to give in, so I decided to leave with this unwanted box of alcohol. Didn't bother shopping either since that whole event left a bad taste. Then this unsettling unsatisfactory feeling just kept gnawing at me all day, so I decided to take it to my go-to Trader Joe's at Manhattan Beach/Rosecrans. Before lugging that heavy box in, I spoke to someone (I think his name is Michael...?) at the counter and gave him a short version of what I was there for. Immediately, he said, "No problem, bring it in and we'll exchange it for the right one." JUST. LIKE. THAT. Brought it in, he took a quick look at it, looked for a box of merlot and sent me on my merry way. Didn't need my ID, didn't need to do any ringing up, nothing. Just a quick trade. I was so excited, I forgot to do my shopping! And now there's more a solid reason why that place (and not this one) is my TJ go-to. So, yeah, it's safe to say this TJ's was disappointing. My wife shops there a lot. All was well until checkout. The cashier seemed irritated, but lines were not that busy. I tried to pay by tapping my card, but it didn't work. Mr S towers over myself who is 6"1 tells me use the chip. I tried again touching my card to screen again. He Repeatedly said use chip. I had a skimmer get my chip, and lots chargers appeared. By now 5 people in line so I asked manager, Mr S replied they are busy after glancing around the customer service desk. I used chip, and said wasn't happy. I put the items purchased in my car, and came back to see manager. Mr S saw me in line, and said something to his bagger. I looked his way, and said yes I'm back. I asked the Manager G what were my options during this situation She said first some cards don't work, but I said I used same card 3 times in previous days, then that he should've called a manager who would take me to a Different register and ring me up. Feeling frustrated and disappointed right now. To all the people who bought the Trader Joe's mini tote bags today just to resell them for double the price--really? And to the Trader Joe's at this particular location, I went hoping to snag 2 bags, but your team is seriously dropping the ball. Your billboard clearly stated a limit of 2 per customer, yet I saw people walking away with 4, 6, even 8 bags! It's beyond unfair to allow some customers to take more than what was advertised and others left empty-handed. This kind of false advertising and inconsistency from your staff is unacceptable. I love coming to Trader Joe's in different cities. Of course I can expect friendly service and quality items. But one thing I love about coming to this TJs is that they carry items that my home store back in Vegas does not carry. The store itself is clean and easy to navigate. It's always pretty crowded everytime I've gone, but the lines move quickly at the registers. My most recent trip I picked up a bottle of their rosé. Not the best I've had, but for $12/bottle, it was tasty. And of course I picked up my faves like dark chocolate peanut butter cups, blueberry waffles and mango w/ sticky rice egg rolls. The only drawback here is the parking lot. It's pretty terrible. Parking spots seem smaller here and there a ton of cars fighting for spots in a crowded lot. So fun right? Not so much. I visit my family quite often in Torrance so I'm sure I'll be back here again soon. read more

One of my favorite places for not only the snacks but the friendly staff and fun shopping experience. As someone who shops for gifts to bring back to Hawaii, this place is a "MUST" before getting back on the plane. I was very happy to have been assisted by two friendly staff members to locate and look up items. Our new find was the chocolate mochi cake mix, ajika Georgian seasoning blend (spicy, garlicky, deeply aromatic and savory) and the Cuban style citrusy garlic seasoning blend. Listen. As someone who never went to Trader Joe's because everyone warned me it was expensive or a "non authentic" place, I was blown away by the prices, the staff, and the food. I love their ice cream options and raid the stores every time the season changes. And the s'mores clusters right now? Amazing. Now the ambiance is a little weird at first, but when you go in more and more you start to see all the cute little quirks and such. Like, my main TJ's hides a penguin around the store for kids to find (his name is Petey). And all the art is apparently local? Something for everyone... Friends and family like it when I go to "the mainland" for vacation. Actually, they look forward to my return and hope that I brought something back for them from Trader Joe's... because there are no Trader Joe's in Hawaii...and probably never will be because of the shipping costs. Anyway, sometimes, my family and friends give me a list of what they want... yup, no guessing games here. It makes it easier for me in a way. For example, my mom once gave me an assignment: bring home those Kitchen Cloths. She wanted to give them to her friends as gifts. These are really practical and lightweight. I can just throw them into my suitcase! On the other hand, my clerk wanted some goodies and she texted me photos of various snacks... haha! That's very clear communication! LOL! I had to hand carry these items so they don't crumble! So, next time I'm in town, I will be at this Trader Joe's before I go to the airport... haha! I've never had an issue at any Trader Joe's and don't like to write a bad review. But last week or so, my groceries were bagged so poorly I decided to mention it. I had only one bag packed nicely by the cashier, who was definitely old enough to know how to do his job. I even complimented him and made a joke that he's surely packed many bags in his day, as we both are of "mature" age. When I got home however, the whole bottom of the paper bag was wet with milk. The quart size carton (not plastic) had been placed lengthwise at the bottom of the bag with the opening face down. Carton was sealed obviously, but any slight pressure from other items on top could surely cause the container to leak, which it did... wetting tissue boxes and other items in the bag. It was annoying to be sure, but not damaging enough to go all the way back to the store to complain and get new items. But who does that? Especially a "seasoned" employee, placing a carton of milk upright is the only logical choice! read more

I have never felt so disrespected in a grocery store in my entire life and of all the grocery stores for it to happen it was one of my all time favorite Trader Joe's‼‼‼ I bought the tequila under the 12.99 sign and then got to my car checked the receipt and realized I was charged 16.99 instead! So i go back in the store expecting a quick price adjustment and refund but instead I get greeted by a manager who proceeded to tell me he sees the signs have been switched up and that is not my fault but "I SHOULD HAVE READ THE SIGNS BETTER"‼ I was so shooketh I just stood there staring at him and he repeated you should have read the signs better so I cannot honor the price that my team mixed up! If you look closely these signs are mixed up three ways all wrong and they keep the alcohol right by the register so there is no way that a customer was able to swap all these around to get cheaper prices this was a store mistake and I helped them realize it but the thanks I got for helping them catch a major mistake was being belittled‼ So I told him to return the bottle then and he did but what a dumb business move you could've just given me the 3-4 bucks difference but now instead you're out of 18 bucks! I called and reported the incident so a different manager called me to offer me a lil 20$ gift card and apologize! I appreciate that and all but that seemed to fall very short for a company like Trader Joe's that is built on hospitality and providing amazing customer service and care! That just didn't do it for me I will have to pass on spending my hard earned money at this location moving forward! read more

I've shopped here on and off for miscellaneous kitchen items. I'm super picky with what I eat, so I only shop at select places. Trader Joe's is definitely one of them, I like how their food is a lot more healthy than in your typical supermarket. This time around, I hopped in here for some peanut butter and jelly. After a quick glance, I found what I was looking for and proceeded to check out. The cashier was friendly, and the check out was quick. The store is clean and well stocked. The staff is pretty cool, at times they helped me pick out some pretty good items. The place can get busy, depending on what time and day you come here. But the cashiers always keep the line moving, so no problem there. This TD location is located in a large shopping plaza. Parking is not too hard to find. I'd recommend shopping here. read more

Out of all the locations, this one is my favorite. Parking is free and easy (as long as you avoid peak times). Prices for produce, chips, bread and practically everything else are cheaper than the big retail groceries. Very friendly staff. After you're done shopping, you can grab a burger at I-N-Out or fried chicken from Jollibee. Both are in the same promenade. read more

Today I witnessed a cashier named Jay being rude to a younger employee who had just come on shift at 4:00. He goes, "now get over there like you're supposed to!" It was mortifying. Although I'm a loyal Trader Joe's customer, this one is always crowded and parking is a hassle. This store feels smaller than others I've been to. I have been shopping at Trader Joe's as far back as my college years (late 90's), and have never had an issue until today. I work at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, and I was given the huge task of coordinating our 5-day event to honor our nurses for Nurses' Week. Today is the last day of Nurses' Week. I purchased flowers and candies that we ended up not using for our big event yesterday, so I went to the Torrance Trader Joe's location to return the unused succulents and candies (my plan was to go to this store's neighboring store, Home Goods). I went up to the return counter, and manager Casey instructed me to go to a regular checkout person to perform the return. I ended up going up to a cashier named Jesse. Towards the end of the return, he mentioned to me that it was not the store's policy to accept such a huge return (11 succulents, and approx 40+ candies that were untouched and were still wrapped)., and that he was accepting the "huge" return this time around. His tone of voice was rude and unprofessional. After this interaction, I proceeded to tell Jesse that had I known I was going to be treated so rudely, I should have just returned the goods at the original store of purchase (Hermosa Beach- I live in Hermosa Beach). Jesse then asked why I returned the goods at the Torrance location, as this would create AN INVENTORY PROBLEM. I explained to him my reasoning for returning my goods there (I work at Harbor-UCLA in Torrance, and that I had plans to go to Home Goods). Why would I even need to explain my reason?????? I was so upset after this, that I ended up talking to Casey, the store manager, about my horrible experience. I also insisted that we should talk to Jesse, which the 3 of us did. Jesse brought up the inventory problem again. I will NEVER go to this store ever again. What a horrible customer service employee Jesse is. I am thankful for Casey discussing it further outside the store. Great manager, but he has to deal with a horrible employee. I am very confident there will be another customer that will be mistreated by Jesse. read more

I enjoyed my visit to this Trader Joe's location. It's not in my neighborhood so I can't visit often. They are very neat and organized and they have plenty of parking. My husband and I noticed that although the set-up of the store was the same as the others, we couldn't seem to find the products we were looking for. An employee by the name of Travis assisted us. He was very sweet because he didn't just tell us the aisles that the products were on and walk away. He walked with me to find both products. He was very patient and put our needs first. That impressed me very much because I know most employees in Trader's stay very busy seeing it's a fast paced environment. The check out stands are organized beautifully and in such a creative way. I don't know what it is with this location but it's sorely lacking in comparison to the other Trader Joe's within my area. Do not go in past 8 PM on any evening because the staff stops acknowledging customers and is busy restocking and talking amongst themselves so you're on your own. They are consistently out of popular items and have the standard "Trader Joe's" excuse; supply chain issues or maybe we're never getting it again, who knows. On my last visit there was a Trader Joe's employee who was especially rude to me. A middle aged Caucasian man not wearing a name badge wearing the traditional Hawaiian shirt of TJ management. He rolled his eyes at me and proceeded to give me a dirty look whenever ever he was in my view the entire time I was shopping. He even raised his voice at me when I inquired about the nectarines! This is a far cry from the Trader Joe's of my youth where every employee was kind, patient and friendly. I was told that the man was from corporate and I could not have his name. When I called and I asked again the next morning I was told by the person that answered the phone at this location "you may not have his name" Bizarre. I was not going to stalk him. I merely wanted to know who I was complaining about and hopefully avoid this particular person in the future if possible. I don't write letters to corporate offices unless I have something very good or very very bad to report about a location and even though they would not give me the man's name I did contact Trader Joe's headquarters without hesitation to express my concerns. Avoid this location. There are plenty of other Trader Joe's in this area that are fully stocked and have genuine human beings who don't treat you poorly just because you decided to shop at 8:30 pm on a Sunday evening. I have never experienced such a rude employee and the fact that he was a corporate manager was very disconcerting. Most people rave about their good cheap wines, their great frozen dinners, fresh produce, and so on. Well if they had one in Hawaii I'm sure I would say the same but I don't and although I have tasted all the above when I visited my friends and family I mostly come here to bring back omiyage (what locals call gifts). Like their wine very affordable and great tasting. Some things I buy are: Buffalo Jerky, Lady Fingers, those cookies (you know which ones), Edimame Crackers, Marcona Almonds, and their Chocolate Covered Chips. I always come here every year and their staff is always friendly and when I can't find what I'm looking for, they grab my hand and take me where it is. just kidding they don't actually grab my hand but they do show me where it is though. Bread: Challah bread!! My favorite !! I usually buy at least 2 loaves. Their pretzel bread is pretty good, too. Refrigerated items: Packaged salads, packaged sushi rolls, microwaveable lasagna.
