We were in Philly and wanted to grab some wings and watch the Ohio State vs Michigan game. This place was close to our hotel and had a lot of TVs so we gave it a try. It was loud but not because of the TVs - but because there was loud music playing which caused everyone to have to talk really loud. My husband ordered dry wings which weren't bad. I ordered the chicken tenders which came out almost basically burnt. They tasted like they had a dill pickle brine which was good but they were just too crispy for my liking. With 2 minutes left in the game. ALL the TVs were turned to the Penn State vs Rutgers game. I get we are in Philly but they could have left one TV on for a few more minutes to finish a game we were watching. read more

Tradesman's Bar is a total gem, especially during happy hour! The vibe is just right, and the staff is super friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. We tried the Midnight Rush drink and WOW... it was incredible. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and just the right kick to get the evening started to wake you up! We were stopping in for a quick dinner before a show so we didn't get to have the barbecue but everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked great. What in the F? The Good : Biggest Penn State bar in the city right now. Packed to the gills with people and energy. The Bad : Biggest game of the year this past Saturday for PSU vs OSU and although the place opens at 11:00am and had a crowd of over approx forty people to get in the bars were not staffed. I don't only mean not staffed I mean not open. The upstairs bar had a crowd of about twenty-five people waiting for it to open which was after 12pm after the big game started. It goes on people, you cannot order one beer, had to order a bucket, don't as me why. Finally, when our bucket arrived it only had five beers in it instead of six lol. Other than that, we did get another bucket later on and one of the beers was skunked! By this time I was itching to leave this place but the rest of our crew wanted to stay and watch it in the alley that had a big screen set up and had food cooking that was runoff people from tradesmen. There was also a Tito station set up giving away free samples including free shots of Tito Vodka. I cannot grade this place on the food however after this outing I highly doubt I will be back. I have maybe left 5 reviews of restaurants in 10 years and Tradesmans deserves a review to state how poor of an experience we had. My wife and I shrugged off not 1, not 2, but 5 separate instances where the waitress states they were out of menu items. This was after it took a while to be waited on in the 1st place. Add to this that the sole reason we came here was to watch a college football game (Alabama vs LSU) and after we asked that 1 of 9 screens in our section be changed to the game, minutes later it was changed to a 76er basketball game. I asked why and was told Philadelphia sports take priority and no screens in our seating section could have the Alabama football game on! By this time wife's meal had still not been served so we asked for a check and left. We are locals and rate this place very poorly! I will make it a point to repeat this experience in my circles as much as I recall it and ask others to avoid this place. The service we received was a F*#ing joke. read more

We had a reservation for a large party of 22 they put us upstairs and gave us one server. While we did need some separate checks, it took an hour and a half to get some of our food ORDERS in. I had to leave my daughter there go somewhere else to eat and still pay their gratuity charge. The manager would not assist in getting an additional server upstairs, father seem to be staffed just sitting around downstairs doing nothing. Security was inside carding individuals who were coming in. FYI if you come between 2-3 they are transitioning from brunch to dinner and the meats aren't available. Luckily we arrived closer to 3 and didn't have any issue ordering. I wasn't impressed by my sandwich. I felt like the pulled pork meat had been sitting and it was dry. I doused it in BBQ sauce and I still needed needed to add more sauce. I loved the fries since they had a crunch to the and were seasoned. This was a spot I had been wanting to return to but after this visit I may only be coming by for some drinks. Good luck finding parking on the street. I parked in a nearby parking garage. Our server was okay, I arrived later than the rest of the group. When she came back to the table she asked if everyone was ready to put in their order and I had to ask if I could put in a drink order only to realize that someone else at the table hadn't received their drink and they were the first to put it in. Some male staff started having patrons including myself to stand up early so that they could move the seats and the waitress we had felt bad and offered me and my friend free shots. Probably should at least have waited until 10 pm and made a general announcement over a loudspeaker first. The way the male staffers were putting away the chairs too early scared some female Patrons and they just stood up and wanted to leave early. Came here for brunch and this is a solid spot. I had the Breakfast burger with tots and my fiancé had the Smokehouse. The Breakfast Burger was amazing, there is an in-house sauce on it, and it is on an English muffin! I tried some of the smoke house and I enjoyed It. I didn't think I would like the barbecue sauce so close to the grits, but it tasted good to me. My fiancé decided to get the cheese on the side by the way. This spot definitely should be at the top of your list if you had a wild night and you are hungover. This is definitely a prime spot for hangover eats in my opinion. Then she disappeared for a bit. It was okay because I snagged another waitress when I needed more of the delicious sauce for my ribs. I attended a recreational employee dinner hosted by my boss to lift morale. Most of us never heard of this bar/restaurant. I was intrigued since our company is a high end restaurant in Chestnut Hill. If the owner and former head chef picked it, it must be good, right? HELLZ YEAH!!!!!! The drinks were potent and yummy. The mac & cheese with brisket was sublime!!!!! The grand entrance of the 6ft (?) cheesesteak with fresh cut sweet potato waffle fries were spectacular. SPARKLERS!!!!! The garlic parmesan wings were super. The nachos were on point, light & crips, not stale or greasy. My ONLY disappointment which was shared with another friend at the party were the baby back ribs. We loved the sauce- just right, not too spicy/hot with tangy gooey yummyliciousness. However the ribs themselves were MOSTLY BONE. It was basically use licking the sauce and the few bits of meat off the top. It was hard to even find any separation to cut it to get the meat in between. I wish they offered SPARE RIBS which usually have more tender, juicy meat on the bone. Cause I LOOKED at the menu before ordering the baby backs. Hell, they coulda just put BBQ sauce on the brisket and I would have had a foodgasm. Maybe I'll do that next time on my own. That said, I will definitely go there again but I will never order the ribs. There are so many other perfect food offerings to keep me happy that I ain't mad, LOL. Also, the TVs provided viewer ankles for everyone regardless of where they sat. And the bar stools were COMFORTABLE too. Our waitress was attentive and professional but not aloof. The bartenders helped us out too with friendly responses. I apologize because I forget their names. Worst excuse for a restaurant ever. Yes, Friday's a busy night, and we were pleasantly surprised that the crowd noise was moderate and there was no line for a table. The host offered us a table near the bar and promised to bring another menu. 15 minutes later we had no second menu, and no one had been by to take a drink or food order. I walked across the room and suggested that perhaps we'd been seated in the service "black hole," and would like a visit from a waitperson. Another 15 mins transpired before we had drinks. After another 15 mins and no food delivery, we left cash on the table -- far more than the cost of a beer and a soft drink--and walked out. Vote with your dollars, vote with your feet. If you're looking to wait over an hour to get terrible service but decent food, this is your place. We put our name in to be seated and they said about 20 minutes. We checked in after about 30 minutes and they told us it would be another 30 minutes which was not awful because it was crowded. Most of the food was good. I had baby back ribs and the group had pulled pork, Mac and Cheese, greens, and shrimp. Everything was pretty good except the Mac and cheese had no cheese and flavor . We were also served very quickly which was a god send! The issue with my experience and the reason for the 2 stars is our server Robin was just not at all nice. She seemed so irritated to serve us. I am very disheartened to have to write this review, as I used to be a huge fan of Tradesman's. I made reservations to OpenTable for my sister-in-law's birthday. While completing the reservation, I indicated that the special occasion was, in fact, a birthday. We arrived at our reservation time Saturday at 12:30 PM and were seated immediately by front door behind the brick barrier/design wall by the hostess. Unfortunately, this is where the good customer service came to an end. If you are facing the TVs, we had a table to our left and a table to our right. The table to our left had arrived prior to us, and were enjoying their meals. The table to our right arrived a few minutes after us. We sat for 10 minutes & did not have anyone approach us at all. During this 10 minutes span, I saw a waitress, serve the table to our left, and then the table to our right. She walked by us several times without looking in our direction (which is very difficult to do considering she was within 1.5 yards of us each time and even stood directly behind my chair to take the orders of the table to the right). At no time did she acknowledge us & we had no idea she was going to be our waitress until she approached the table after 17 minutes and said "Hi, do y'all know what you want?" We never received an apology for the time we waited without acknowledgment from her. At about 5-10 seconds later, the hostess approached us with water for the table. We did not ask for water, but I assume it was to make up for the time we waited. We then told the waitress our food and drink order and she said "ok it will be out shortly" and walked away. She returned a few minutes later with the mimosa and orange juice and placed it on the table, then walked away. At that point we were very upset at at the customer service, cancelled our orders and left. I sincerely hope management looks at the cameras & uses it as a training for what not to do & how to not treat customers as no one deserves this treatment. read more

FOOD- we ordered the 3 meat, 3 sides combo platter. For 2 people, it was plenty of food and we didn't even finish it. We got brisket, pulled pork, and fried chicken. The brisket was dry, the pulled pork was really good, and the fried chicken I didn't eat, but my husband seemed to like it! The sides we ordered were Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. The Mac was mild, I like a stronger or sharper cheese. The baked beans had more chunks of bacon in it than actual beans, which was good but I'd prefer the beans. The mashed potatoes were my favorite side item. Yumm. The cornbread was also average, kind of dry. Overall, this place is decent. So, I ordered 1lb of brisket for takeout on Saturday afternoon. Got it home all the way to south Philly and when I opened the box it was dark and bone dry. It had to literally be thrown out. I called and explained what happened. That I wasn't going to turn around and go back that evening. They couldn't refund unless I did but said they would replace it when I could come back. Went back this evening, 3 nights later. They were gracious and handed me a bag that, yeah, I should have checked. The meat was perfect, but it was half a pound. So for all my effort, going back twice and having to pay for a substitute delivery from somewhere else Saturday night, I paid double for the meal. Not worth that much money and that much effort. I just don't have the energy to go back. They need better quality control. read more

Service was awful (only one server for 10+ outdoor tables??) and our food took very long to come out (I waited about 10 minutes longer than my roommates to receive my meal). They also did not have allergens listed on the menu, which was a huge let down for my roommate that has a peanut allergy. The outdoor dining setting was very appealing. Each tent had its own TV and space heater, but the weather was nice enough that we did not need it. Each entree that we ordered was very flavorful and "fresh out the kitchen." The BBQ pulled pork had a great taste, particularly from the long hots. Also, I believe the honey mustard is made with dijon which gave that an added kick that I liked. Would I go back? Sadly, you can't order food from their "regular" menu during this time, so if you want BBQ this wouldn't be a good time to go. The brunch was rather decent and they have a good selection. I got the burrito, which to be honest wasn't too special. If you're a hungry person, their "Hungry Man" is definitely large and filling, and my friend enjoyed it very much. So I came back here for dinner on a Tuesday and was very impressed. We were seated immediately and promptly greeted by a very nice and attentive server. We ordered Christmas drinks which arrived in 5-7 minutes. My hot chocolate cocktail with bourbon was outrageously good. For dinner my wife got the burger and I got the 1/2 baby back stack with mac and cheese and cornbread. Our meals came out in less than 15 minutes. Everything was hot and tasted fresh. My wife enjoyed her burger. She also absolutely loved the fries. They were hand cut and well portioned. My baby back ribs were cooked very well, crispy on the outside yet moist in the middle. The steve and spicy sauce was my favorite. It really went well with the ribs. The cornbread side was delicious, though the star side was the mac and cheese. The shell pasta and cheese sauce are amazing. I hope everyone gets the amazing service I received tonight. The manager even came up to us to make sure everything was good. I was impressed. Tradesmen's was a cool place but it had some hiccups. It was two levels and they had roll up doors in the front with bar seating for nicer weather. The beer selection was decent, the food was OK, but my biggest criticism of this place was the service. I was there with a small group of no more than 20 people who all wanted drinks and food. There was supposed to be a bartender upstairs for us and a server but neither one of them were on time, neither one of them were attentive, beers and food took forever to arrive and were messed up, and my check had either two or three drinks on it that I did not purchase but the bartender would not take off because he insisted that I did. I ordered drinks directly from him and did not place any drink orders with the server. Somehow this confusion was getting lost in translation and I was not happy. I'm sure it is great on a normal day in a normal setting, but I did not have a great experience there. I got two orders of nachos and an order of potato skins for those I was sitting with. The nachos had chicken on them and were Luke warm to cold. The potato skins were very hard but were hot. The toppings were good but overall the food situation could have been better. read more

Of course, we wound up visiting in the middle of an Eagles game. This meant that 1) it was packed and 2) they were serving an extremely limited menu for gametime. We were all pretty bummed as their regular menu looked much more appetizing than the game food menu that contains like six items only. But we tried to make the best of it. We got the nachos (OK), the cheesesteak eggrolls (OK) and the loaded tots (also OK). We ordered the chicken wings but they were never brought to the table. And we ordered fried shrimp, which the kitchen was kind enough to make us even though they are not on the limited game day menu. Overall it was average to slightly better than average bar food. Drinks were served in plastic cups, our table was dirty and super wobbly and our waitress had too many tables. Probably would not come back.
