I took my 1996 Nissan 4 x 4 pickup Hardbody to have transmission rebuilt and clutch replaced.A couple weeks later I picked up my truck. I knew there was something wrong when I started it it sounded terrible I drove out the parking lot I couldn't even believe that this was my truck it didn't sound or run anything like I did before I took it there. I have treated this truck like a baby because it was one of the last things that I had from my dad and he passed away in 2002. I picked up my truck at 4:55 the shop closed at 5:00 I called first thing in the morning at 8:00 am when the doors open I asked to speak to the owner that works in a shop and told him my truck sounded really bad and ran bad. I was given a 12-month warranty when I paid $2,000 picked up my truck. The owner told me you know that little piece of paper that you signed in the beginning well I can't help you and literally hung up on me. I was extremely nice when I spoke to him I was not yelling or screaming are cussing I politely asked him could I please bring my truck in.I was in disbelief when he told me no and told me about this little piece of paper and hung up on me. Take my advice do not do business with Trail transmission I've had the worst experience of my life and I've been dealing with three or four mechanics in the last 20 years which I'm going to show you the receipts for maintenance on my vehicle I've spent $8,000 replacing Parts literally almost everything in my truck under the hood has been replaced. I recently took my my Class C rv into this shop to have the transmission rebuilt. Cost was 2600 dollars and came with a 12 month, 12k mile warranty, pretty standard for most shops. After only 2 months the transmission started doing the exact same thing that caused me to bring it in the first place (not downshifting, lost 2nd gear) This happened on a trip up to the mogallon rim. Luckily I limped it home and didn't have to be towed. Trail took it in and supposedly fixed it again at no charge. We just took the rv on a Christmas trip to Minnesota and the transmission went completely out in the middle of nowhere in Missouri. It had to be towed to a transmission shop to get fixed and we had to rent another vehicle to get to our destination as well as pay for hotels. To say it was a nightmare would be an understatement. Now, this transmission is still well within warranty so I made a stop by trail to get some sort of compensation for paying for 2nd rebuild within the warranty period. No such luck. I was told warranty was only local and they would not do anything. I asked to speak with the owner and he would not even come in and speak with me. Great customer service. The front desk guy told me that a nationwide warranty would have cost much more but 1.) I was never made aware that my warranty was only local and nationwide was available for purchase (warranty contract says nothing about it being local only btw) and 2.) why would anyone get a transmission replaced from a shop that will not warranty it if it happens outside Arizona and not even tell you? My only recourse now is hiring a lawyer and getting my money back. I would suggest avoiding this place and not putting yourself in my position. read more

I've been taking my vehicles to Trail Transmission for years. Whenever I buy a used vehicle I take it to them to change out the transmission oil and filter. My most recent was my 05' Ford Explorer. It was hesitating to shift right away from a stop light. I would give gas but didn't kick in right away. After they changed the trans fluid and filter it started shifting right as I hit the gas pedal. So five stars from me. Also my '97 conversion van trans went out. They replaced it within a week and now it's back on the road shifting as if it were new. I am a loyal customer and will continue to take my vehicles here. They know transmissions! The technicians identified the cause as a wire harness fault. They replaced the harness for a grand total of about 200 bucks and it has been fine since. Very honorable. I have had several great experiences with Trail Transmission. Most recently, they went WAY above and beyond when they repaired my Explorer. After fixing a fairly minor issue they let me know that the transmission was having some serious other problems. I was frustrated with that news. I was surprised to receive a call later from Trail to discuss possible options and was offered a nice unexpected discount for the rebuild they recommended. I became aware of a little know special part made that could help my problem, and I called Trail to see if they would install it for me. They did exactly that, which is almost unheard of, and at a very reasonable price! And it fixed my problem saving me at least temporarily from a costly rebuild. I've been going here for years for all of my transmission issues always got a fair deal and good service. This week my 16 yo son's f150 had some hiccups in shifting so we dropped it off for a diagnosis. After a few hours they called and quoted us $85 an hour to diagnose after the preliminary test didn't reveal much about the issue. We agreed to the quote and waited for the results. Next day they called to say it was just a blown fuse that caused the whole effing thing to go haywire and when I asked what we owed, expecting at least $85 plus the cost of the fuse, Jerry said $25 they could have charged us more for the whole bother of looking at it but no just a simple $25 bucks. This place will save you money by not getting the work done here. Get a second opinion at a different shop. This is what happened to me, I was coming back from payson when my truck started shifting wrong, not shifting, etc. ( trans. problem ? ) checked fluid it was low added some and got the truck home. Took it to Trail Trans. they kept it about an hour to check it all out, road test it, whatever else. I explained everything to them before leaving it to be checked. They called told me they were done checking it ( no cost for the check ) but my trans. was shot and needed a complete rebuild, $1,600.00 plus tax and they could have it done by Monday. ( this was Saturday ) I told them no don't do anything I was on my way there. When I got there he told me that the trans. was completely check out and needed the complete rebuild. That they if I used it , even just taking it home that I wouldn't get far. Well $1600.00 is alot of money, money i didn't have and so I left got the truck home no problem, used it afew days to and from work ( 30 miles each way ) Well the truck began having problems again. I started calling around to different places to maybe get a better price on getting the trans. rebuilt, when one shop ( Tri City Trans ) in Tempe asked how do you know you need a complete rebuild ? I explain my problem and told him about Trail Trans. Then he told me to go out to the truck and remove the vacuum line on the trans. if there if oil ( tranny fluid ) in it then he would guess it was probably just the vacuum modulator gone bad. Guess what there was fluid in the line !! I came back in to the phone and told him this, he said that any good transmission shop should have checked this first when I explained to them that I was low and using tranny fluid. It's got to be going somewhere!! he said. Big Thanks to Tri City Trans. did this all by phone. I went to checker auto purchased the vacuum modulator for $7.95 problem fixed. It's been a little over a year now 25,000 miles later, the truck is running great!!! I returned a call to Tri City Trans. thanked them and he said " yeah there's alot of ripoff shops out there " Like Trail Trans. Just rebuild the whole trans. charge $1600.00 or more to fix a $7.95 part. So anyone I know with a trans. problem I tell them to stay away from Trail Trans. I hope this helps someone out there. The funny thing is every time I go by Trail Trans. they are always busy ( busy ripping people off ) I wander how many only needed a $7.95 part.!!!! read more

When I asked if I could bring my own part, guy laughed at me and asked me "do you take your own hamburger to McDonald's and ask 'em to cook 'em for ya?"
