FINALLY. Folsom has a Vietnamese restaurant that gets it right! Wow, did Folsom need this. I was honestly getting pretty disappointed with some of the local Vietnamese restaurants. It felt like the focus was on pumping out huge quantities of pho rather than actually caring about the quality of the food. Then Tran Vietnamese opened its doors, and it has completely changed my opinion. First off, the staff is genuinely friendly and welcoming. You can tell they take pride in their customer service and actually care about the experience they're providing. But let's talk about the pho. I've ordered the rare beef pho multiple times now, and it is outstanding. The broth comes out piping hot, the noodles are fresh, and the steak is actually fresh rather than tasting like it came straight from the freezer. The basil is incredibly aromatic, the limes are always juicy, and all those little details make a huge difference. I usually stick with pho, but Henry, one of the owners, convinced me to branch out and try the shaken beef. I'm glad I listened because WOW. The beef was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Definitely worth ordering. The Vietnamese egg rolls are another winner. Super crispy on the outside, with fresh carrots and lettuce, plus the dipping sauce ties everything together. More recently, I started ordering the grilled pork spring rolls, and WOW again. Fresh, flavorful, and packed with great texture. Another easy recommendation. And then there's dessert, something I've honestly never really ventured into with Vietnamese food before. I tried their Vietnamese flan with coffee on top, and I didn't know what I was missing! The coffee is rich but still smooth and creamy, while the flan is silky and packed with flavor. The combination is seriously delicious. I'll definitely be ordering this again. What I really appreciate about Tran Vietnamese is that they clearly take pride in what they're serving. How does one express pure joy and satisfaction that there's finally a LEGIT, local Vietnamese kitchen that prides itself on 24-hour slow cooked broth -that is so well balanced and not overly salted that it brings a watery-eyed level of gratitude?? I'll try to do them justice but do yourself a favor and pull up ASAP. Everything we've had thus far (3 visits in 2 weeks and counting) has been phenomenal. My kids and I love the steak pho because that broth is a proper slow cooked, full-flavor bowl of goodness and the generous protein that it's packed with actually has my son say next time he'll do kid's portion (and he can put it away!). The bahn mi sandwich is a knock out with tender charred meat, all the picked veggies and crunchy yet soft French baguette. You can taste the family tradition in their egg rolls (and I learned the owner's mom makes them), that's the secret ingredient, made with love. The team is so welcoming and warm and attentive. We celebrated our son's bday and they had a fun spinning wheel to gift him a little treat. What a great find in an old shopping center in Folsom. As soon as we walked in, we were seated and served waters.. The place is clean and I love the woodwork on the tables. There are three TVs playing different content. We shared our dishes to see how our favorites and something we hadn't heard of stacked up against our years eating Vietnamese in the Bay Area. Here's what we thought of the food: Thai Tea - 9 Flavorful without being too sweet. Probably the best balance I've had! Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls - 9 Fresh shrimp (no fishiness) and wonderful herbs with a warmed peanut sauce. Grilled Betel Leaf Beef over rice - 10 Wow...so much flavor in these meatloaf sausage wrapped treasures. The salad is kinda of plain but the rice is well cooked and fish sauce is pretty good (could use more flavor but I love that it isn't overly sweet). Grilled Meat over Vermicelli- 9 Very flavorful pork that was perfectly cooked. Mixed with vermicelli, lettuce and fish sauce makes this light and flavorful. We were amazed at the quality of food here in this nondescript strip mall restaurant. They will be taking a lot of business from the other Vietnamese restaurants in Folsom. Tran Kitchen is one of the better Vietnamese food options in the area, and I'm giving it 4 stars for the exceptional service, clean restaurant, convenient location, and ample parking. The food is good for the local clientele, so expect flavors that are a bit milder and more approachable. Authentic Vietnamese cuisine can be bold and complex, which may not appeal to everyone who is new to it. The egg rolls were a standout. They were seasoned well and won me over from the very first bite. We ordered several classics: Pho Dac Biet, Bo Kho, and Bun Bo Hue. The beef broth was well prepared, but all three soups tasted very similar to me. While that worked well for the pho, it was somewhat disappointing for the Bo Kho and Bun Bo Hue, which traditionally have their own distinct flavor profiles and seasonings. The dishes seemed tailored more toward American palates, and I found myself adding extra saté while still craving more lemongrass and traditional mam-based seasoning. The Bun Bo Hue, in particular, would benefit from optional authentic additions such as pork blood, cha hue, and pork shoulder. I spoke with the owner about this, and he agreed that offering these ingredients upon request could be a great option. I believe this would attract more Asian customers looking for a more authentic experience. There is a sizable Asian community in the area, and many of us are often hesitant to try new Asian restaurants because authenticity can vary widely. The service was super attentive, not what I would expect from a pho shop for sure. The broth was delicious and the portions were huge. This place exceeded my expectations! If im being honest, nothing in the food scene of folsom has really wowed me except this place. I ordered the spicy lemongrass chicken plate and my fiance got their signature pho . The pho broth was amazing- one of the best ive had. I really liked that i could taste the the star anise-it wasnt too potent or anything but had a nice aroma and made this broth more unique from others because normally I can barely taste it. My chicken was still the highlight though. It wasnt spicy at all though but still juicy tender and delicious. I would def get both dishes again- the shrimp spring rolls were a good appetizer but nothing special. Service was very nice and they came and checked on us a few times. Tried this location out during their opening and on a rainy day. Soup broth was clean and bean sprouts/basil were fresh. The broth did not seem very hot, it comes in a large bowl. I could only eat half and brought the other half home. The noodles are plentiful and seemed slightly under cooked but later softened in the broth. The service was attentive. So glad I saw the posting about the soft opening for a new Vietnamese restaurant in town. Typically I'll wait a few months before trying a new business to give them an opportunity to iron out any start-up hiccups, but a piping hot bowl of noodle soup sounded like the perfect comfort food for the evening. I was thankful for our server's recommendation. My go-to when frequenting other pho restaurants is usually chicken pho, but I ordered the Bo Kho (House special beef stew served with noodles) which was packed with flavor and a generous portion of noodles to satisfy this foodie's craving for Asian cuisine. Great new Vietnamese spot in Folsom. Solid Pho and excellent Bo Kho. Easily the best pho place in a town with limited choices for decent Vietnamese. Pho was on the sweeter side, but solid. Good cuts of beef in the soup. Was a bit stingy with the bean sprouts, but was only second day open when we went so I'm sure minor things like this will improve. The Bo Kho was the highlight. Very flavorful broth, tender meat and the banh mi bread it came with was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. We also tried the chicken pho, it was the weakest part of the meal. Not bad, just C level. Service was good and owner stopped by the table to make sure everything was good and offered the kids free ice cream since it was their soft opening. With Saigon Alley & Pho n' Roll closing on us, I was excited to see a new pho restaurant in town! I was very impressed with their excellent customer service. The staff are very kind, patient and helpful. We ordered pho ga for our kids and they loved it. The broth was amazing! You don't need to add a thing. Bo kho was also so flavorful and delicious. The place is a bit on the smaller side but it's a decent size. The bathroom was nice and clean as well. I also love the decor they have- flowers and pics of Vietnam. Excellent customer service, above beyond and I'm gonna say some of the cleanest tasting, and best tasting broth that I've had from Folsom clear over to Camino. I got the New York strip beef PHO, I believe it only comes in one size and prices look good to me. I'm not gonna knock ABC or PHO society, those are the only two places that I've had in Folsom for Pho, but the second he brought my soup out I could see that the broth was homemade, relatively clear which means that they are careful to really wash those bones before they cook them for 24 hours, and they really do a good job scraping off all the scum from the bones, making sure not too much blood from the bones gets cooked into the broth because you can tell when you get PHO how well they cleaned the bones. I'm not gonna knock it unless it's really bad, but the broth was pretty clear and one amazing thing I have to say is that the flavor was super on point and they did not overdo the rock sugar and star of anise. You can definitely taste all the flavors, but sometimes people make it pretty sweet so I have to put more Sriracha to offset, this broth was literally perfect as it was served. They are a new business, it was extremely clean, they open at 10:30 so you cannot go wrong with that if you are looking for a PHO brunch experience. I love that they have New York strip as an option with a little tiny smidgen of gristle on the meat, not much just enough for flavor, I love that the meat wasn't too thick because when steak is cut too thick in PHO it gets tough and chewy. There were beautiful bits of fat floating on the surface, and they serve it with lime and not lemon. You have no idea how crazy it drives me when I get PHO and it comes with lemon and not lime. The bean sprouts and the basil, all of the greenery was fresh, there were no brown spots on anything, the portion size was what would be considered a large to extra large anywhere else, and when I say that this gentleman went above and beyond as my server, he was extremely attentive, he checked on me constantly, and the drinking water was very obviously filtered. It did not taste like it came from a hose. I have a gastric sleeve so I can't eat much food at once so I had to take quite a lot to go, I almost never over eat anymore but that broth was so good, the little bit that did not fit in my to go container I was practically forcing it in, I felt healthier just for having drank it! I don't normally rave about food like this, but I'm so glad that there is an alternative spot to go for a good Vietnamese food in Folsom. I live in Camino, I drove 45 minutes to try this place and I was not disappointed. I think this is gonna be our go to spot for a while. I will say that I did not try any vermicelli or rice plates, and I did not try the BAHNMI. So this is based solely on the New York strip PHO. I was tempted to get the deluxe which had beef meatballs, I think tendon and brisket but I wanted to keep it safe just in case. Highly highly recommend! read more
