This place is family owned + operated. The dining area is small and maximum seating capacity is about 36 people. We arrived @ 2:30pm and the restaurant had a steady flow of customers. * please note place does give discount to veterans (with proof) We had to wait 15 minutes for our food however it was well worth the wait because not only did the food arrive hot and fresh, but it was very tasty and the flavors exploded in your mouth. The staff checked on us every so often to make sure everything was good and filled up our water whenever needed. LaSam Pho is a popular Vietnamese restaurant located on Sunrise Blvd by Antelope Rd in Citrus Heights. Servers are alert to acknowledge you and try to seat you ASAP once a table becomes cleared. They do check on you if you need anything. Excellent service for a photo restaurant. There are 6 tables for 4 and another 6 tables for 2, but those are arranged as two tables next to each other, so it could function as 3 tables of 4 as an alternative seating arrangement (labeled Tables 8-10). You could feel like you're sharing your table at Tables 5-10. I didn't see a Table 1. Napkins, chopsticks, forks, and spoons in holders on table. I ordered the Special Beef Pho Bowl, which is on the 1st page of the menu presented like a children's storybook. It comes with a Back Rib, which requires use of hands and teeth to break it into bite-sized pieces. I could have used a knife. Broth is tasty as is. Bean sprouts, basil, jalapeno, and lemon provided. Sauces on table include soy sauce, fish sauce, hoisin sauce, sriracha, and chili paste. I would only use soy sauce or fish sauce if you want more salt. I felt sriracha and hoisin overpowered the broth. I also ordered a Grilled Pork Bahn Mi Sandwich to go. Bread is soft. It is hollowed out on one half to make space for the meat. Enjoyable the next day if you keep it airtight in the fridge. I felt like regular customers were ordering all sorts of different menu items around me. I saw meat rice plates and thought I heard many appetizer orders: spring rolls, egg rolls, shrimp dumplings, etc. I would order the Bahn Mi again and try different dishes next time. I love the customer service and personality of the owner, but there are issues with the food here. The prices simply don't reflect the quality. I've been a fan of vietnamese food since I was a baby, but everyone has their own preferences. The pho broth is good, but the bun thit nuong just ain't hittin like it does in Little Saigon, or even at Pho ABC, for that matter, and the pho definitely lacks protein. My biggest qualm, however, is with the egg rolls- they are extremely undercooked and not crispy enough. I ordered from them 3 different times to give it a chance... thinking maybe the eggrolls weren't crispy enough due to the cook, but now I see it's how they serve them- it's not very good that way, imo. Last time I had vietnamese iced coffee here, well it was super bland and not how vietnamese ice coffee should be. With the prices they charge, you'd expect they would use better coffee, not from the plastic pouch. The bun thit nuong was pretty bland last time I had it - maybe to allow those who like less seasoned cuisine to enjoy it too? I think the owners are super kind, but I couldn't put off this review for any longer (their kindness kept me at 5 stars) I don't plan to eat here again. This is different from the online menu so I was able to order my veggie pho. It was savory and enjoyable. Service: Outstanding - For a door dash order - The broth for one of the soups we ordered required a replacement due to being over salted (unlike the perfect broth we had gotten used to from this awesome resto). I called to notify them and the amazing employee went above and beyond by hand delivering a replacement to our house! Finally got around to trying this place after a friend told me about their xiu mai (meatballs in tomato sauce). Thuy greeted me when I walked in and was super sweet. I went with the beef pho and meatballs with French bread. The pho was so flavorful--I just added a little sriracha, lemon, bean sprouts, and jalapeños. The broth was rich and comforting. The baguette was perfectly toasted--crispy on the outside and soft inside. The meatballs were tender and went great with the bread, and there was plenty of sauce to dip or stuff into the bread for a mini sandwich. What really stood out was how warm and attentive Thuy and Steve was with everyone. I mentioned my friend had recommended the place and described them, and she actually remembered them and their order--which was so cool. Steve came out from the back to chat too. I told them I came specifically for the meatballs since not many places have them, and they were both genuinely excited to hear that. It was such a positive and refreshing experience. It's just me, and I always need to have a nice bowl of warm noodle soup. We stopped by the little gem. I was conned by the old menu prices, that is my own fault, but the price is still decent. Special lunch menu - Bun Bo Hieu. I'm not use to seeing black pepper on the top but the flavor or the broths is yummy. Just enough hint of lemon grass but it's missing the spice. The price is $17.99 so it's a lot more higher that other places I go to that is more near home. Chicken pho - kid size. The old menu process $5.99 and the new price is $10.99. Because it's for the kids, we took out all the additions that make the soup more flavorful (green and white onions). Even though the menu mentions shredded chicken it wasn't too shredded which I prefer. It was more like mini chunks. The chicken was good at this place bc it doesn't seem like they used chicken breast that most other restaurants I see use. Grilled pork chop with egg over pride - my daughter did good on picking this dish instead of noodles. The pork chop was flavorful and there was just a hint of lemongrass, my kids all devoured what meat there was on the pork chop. Pork chop it's a roulette on whether you get a piece with lots of meat with less fat or decent amount of meat but lots of fat. The dressing on the salad was yummy.
