I stopped by Trang Kitchen while on a work trip because I needed a quick pick-me-up and ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee. When I was rung up, the amount presented to me was $8.77 for ONE iced coffee. I was honestly shocked and even commented at the register that I couldn't believe a coffee was almost $9. Here's where things get especially frustrating: $8.77 was already the amount shown BEFORE I was prompted to leave a tip. The payment screen then asked me to choose an additional 18%, 20%, or 22% tip, or "No Tip." The screen did not show me an itemized breakdown of what made up that $8.77 total, so naturally I assumed it was the price of the coffee plus tax. I selected "No Tip" because I had cash and was planning to leave $1 instead. I also selected the option to have a printed receipt. The cashier himself was very friendly and gracious, which I appreciated. However, while preparing my drink, he poured coffee from a premade pitcher into a plastic to-go cup and then used his bare hand to guide the ice into my cup. That immediately raised a food-handling/sanitation concern for me. He also didn't hand me the receipt that had printed, so I had to specifically ask for it. It wasn't until after I left and looked at the receipt that I discovered what had actually happened: Coffee: $7.00 Tax: $0.51 Tip: $1.26 Total: $8.77 The $1.26 is 18% of the $7 coffee. In other words, an 18% tip was already included in the $8.77 I was presented with -- and then the payment screen prompted me to leave another 18%, 20%, or 22% tip on top of that. THAT is my biggest issue with this experience. If an 18% gratuity is automatically being added to a simple takeout coffee order, it should be clearly disclosed to the customer before payment, especially when the checkout screen provides no itemized transaction details. And prompting the customer to select another tip afterward makes the transaction even more confusing and potentially misleading. Had I not requested a printed receipt, I never would have known that an 18% tip was already included. Unfortunately, the coffee itself didn't make up for any of this. It was weak, watery, and lacked the strong, rich flavor I expect from Vietnamese iced coffee. For nearly $9, I expected much better. The cashier was genuinely nice, but between the price, the bare-hand contact with the ice, and especially the way the automatic 18% tip was handled at checkout, I left very disappointed. read more

Finally, a Vietnamese Restaurant Worth the Drive To start off, I drove over an hour just to try Trang Vietnamese--and I can confidently say it was worth the drive. Vietnamese food is one of my absolute favorite cuisines, and I could honestly eat pho every day. In fact, this was my third time having pho this week. Trang Vietnamese came highly recommended, so I made the trek to Rocklin, and I was definitely not disappointed. I started with the Vietnamese calamari, served with a sweet chili sauce. The calamari was perfectly fried, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and had a great texture. Then I ventured outside my usual order and tried the strawberry matcha. WOW. What a treat! The matcha flavor was rich and authentic, while the strawberry added the perfect sweetness. And of course, I had to get the pho. The broth was incredibly flavorful and aromatic, served with fresh steak, basil, and lime. The steak was tender, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The broth alone is enough to make me want to drive back. What really stood out to me is that Trang Vietnamese clearly cares about the food they serve. Everything tasted fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and full of flavor. Tried to order online but AT&T does not work in this area so I went into place my to go order in person. It was a little busy in the restaurant but I was quickly greeted and offered a place to sit while I perused the menu. I ordered the Goi Cuon, Combination Com Tam, and Banh Mi Chay (please not it was not just for my big back I was ordering to take some to share with husband). I was told the wait would be about 15-20 minutes which for fresh food I do not mind waiting for. The restaurant was very clean and there was a little tv in the corner where tennis was playing unobtrusively. The service was wonderful I was even offered water while I waited which was incredibly polite. For just the service alone I would go back. I could not pick which item we liked more everything was tasty and fresh. I noticed we were even given some Cha Gio which was generous. They were crispy but not at all oily. Normally I would have multiple photos to share but with a newborn, you have to Houdini that food if you want to be able to finish it before they need you again. We tried out this spot for the first time and were absolutely blown away! The restaurant is spotlessly clean, and our server was super kind and attentive. He mentioned they've been open for about six months, and you can really tell they take pride in what they do. Here is what we had: Bún Riêu (Tomato Crab Soup): Hands down, so good and super flavorful! You could really tell it was made with real crab from the tender crab meatballs in the soup. The tofu and pork sausage also provided such a great contrast in both texture and flavor. Pork Bánh Mì & Fried Egg Rolls: My husband ordered these, and both were hit out of the park. The egg rolls were fried to perfection, and the bánh mì was delicious. I'm so sad this place is a two-hour drive from us, but we will definitely be back. 10/10, highly recommend! read more

I have been reeeeeeally sick all week and my favorite chicken soup is no longer on the menu at the place I usually go. We tried this place for the first time last night and I can honestly say their chicken soup brought me back to life! The broth alone is fantastic, the accoutrements only added to its perfection. I had some for lunch today and it may be even better (or maybe I'm just feeling better ‍). We also got the shaking beef and lemongrass chicken, both were excellent as well. I would say 4.75 stars. Everything was almost perfect. Pros: Service was excellent, they were very friendly. Restaurant was clean, very chill ambiance. Food was delicious. We ordered the broken rice plate with grilled pork and vermicelli wi the grilled pork. Flavored was good and pork wasn't overly fatty like some places. Portion size was okay for me but might not be enough for some people. (My boys would probably need two entrees). Cons: We ordered Vietnamese coffee expecting the drip coffee to actually drip at our table into a glass with condensed milk. Instead it was like a premade coffee like what would come from a bottle. Trang's is a cute, small restaurant in the doomed mall where everything closes. We ordered the Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings, the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken, and the Beef and Rice dish. The Chicken wings were delicious and crunchy all the way through. Maybe we should have ordered the Pho because the bowls were huge! The Spicy Lemongrass chicken wasn't spicy. In this warm up day, I stumbled upon a new restaurant near the AYCE sushi place and was surprised by the clean interior and welcoming lights. My student and I had Com tam combo. Broken rice Grill pork eggrolls and fried eggs. Wished their combo had shrimp in it too. The only place that have broken rice in Roseville and surrounding area. You gotta go to sac for broken rice. It's not the same rice grain as most rice plates. Really hit the spot for me! Love it Gonna try the BBH next. Was craving some soup and my normal go to spot has been lagging lately...saw the deal on DoorDash and gave it a try.....WOW....the food was so aromatic and tasted....beautiful (I know thats a strange way to describe it but once you taste this place, you'll understand) The broth for my beef noodle pho was perfectly balanced and they provided a great amount of protein and toppings! And the fresh rolls....my gawd....I know they're relatively simple but these were the best fresh rolls I've ever tasted. The wrapper was slightly warm and soft and the shrimp was large and the pork was SO tender. And they have a very thick peanut sauce packed with flavor. DO NOT SKIP THESE! I've heard that the owners and workers are very pleasant, but since I did delivery I didnt get to experience it first-hand, but everything was packaged with care and security. I'd probably try the beef pho next time. Pork Bahn Mi: 10/10 - the pork was so tasty. Best bahn mi I've had in the area. Vietnamese coffee: 6/10 - it was strong like Vietnamese coffee should be, but I'm not a huge fan of strong coffee so my personal rating is 6. While their menu is pretty limited, it has all of the essential staples that I usually look for when I'm out looking for some good pho or spring rolls. I was at Trang Kitchen Vietnamese restaurant about 08/03/2026 for the first time. I have patronized other Vietnamese restaurants between Rocklin and Roseville. They are all above average, all authentic, some slightly better than others only if you are fussy and knowledgeable about how Pho should be made, and if the fillings in either fried egg rolls or spring rolls have the layers of ingredients providing the type of overall texture and taste you prefer. It is small family owned and run restaurant with all fresh, in-house made, wholesome and fresh ingredients plus very attentive service. The menu is deliberately smaller in contrast with the multiple menu pages at other places. The restaurant prefers to emphasize that quality control and consistent enjoyable taste and texture is their foremost commitment. Other Asian restaurants often have multiple pages but with same ingredients, same sauces, same seasonings with choice of meat or seafood to justify assigning different menu names. This Vietnamese restaurant, a contrast from most others, offers refreshing, house made, creative desserts of which all will be an enjoyably sweet finish after savory courses. read more

One of the better Pho spots in the Sacramento region. I had the chicken Pho and the portion was plenty for a hungry dude, contrary to a negative review I saw on here. Price is also par to what I normally see in the Sac area. Chicken was tender with no cartilage. Broth was delicious. Service was great. Not over bearing, but aware when you're low on water. A cute little restaurant that just opened up a little over 2 weeks. Was looking for Vietnamese food in the area and the place popped up on Yelp. Was a little skeptical about it being authentic since I'm used to LA, San Jose and Sacramento's authentic flavors but the picture of the bun Bo hue enticed me to go and try it. I am so glad that I did bc the food flavors were very authentic and not a disappointment at all. In my hometown of Hollywood, CA, about 25 years ago, one of my Vietnamese friends introduced me to Vietnamese food. I was absolutely thrilled to discover this delightful cuisine. Since then, I have dined at around 40 different Vietnamese restaurants for hundreds of meals. Almost all were very good, some were great, none were better than Trang Kitchen Vietnamese Cuisine. The menu is small but contains all the most popular entrees found in all great Vietnamese restaurants: Pho, Vermicelli, Ban Mi, and Spring rolls. Around 95% of all meals I've ever ordered are on the list above. Perhaps the reason that they are so excellent here is because they put maximum effort into the very best. One of the downsides of most Vietnamese restaurants is the quality of service. Many times, good food is served with the most surly and uncaring people imaginable. Not so here. The brothers who own/run the place are as warm and friendly and attentive as I've ever experienced. It makes you want to return, not just for the wonderful food but for the extraordinary personal attention. It's like being invited to a treasured friend's house for a home-cooked gourmet meal. Initially, I was skeptical of the 5.0-star Yelp rating especially because the restaurant is so new (about 2 weeks) but now, I understand. I feel bad for anyone who cannot appreciate this fine dining experience. I live 35 miles away from this gem but I'm sure they will be seeing me on a regular basis. I needed to pick up a quick lunch after getting my haircut nearby, and Trang Kitchen was lovely! I write this because I'm surprised that at 1:30pm it was empty, although it was nearly 100F out. They were super fast, the man at the front was very kind, and emphasized how he wanted to wait until the last moment to pour my Thai iced tea so the ice wouldn't melt. My grilled pork banh mi was genuinely the juiciest I've ever had! The Thai iced tea was great, too, maybe a little aftertaste, but hardly noticeable, and still enjoyable on a hot day. I decided to have a snack before dinner with my wife before going home. I saw this new restaurant that just opened up in the area. I have had many a banh mi sandwich in the US and even toured the east coast of Vietnam and had many side street banh mi sandwiches there too. I order what I thought was a banh mi from this establishment. Sad to say that this was a VERY POOR representation of even a sandwich by any means that cost me a whopping $13...WOW!!! Such an epic fail and disappointment for such an inflated price...and that's me trying to be nice about it. The bread felt it was like a few days old because of how hard it was all throughout the whole meal; not from toasting either. To top it off there was maybe 3 pieces of pork, minimal veggies surrounded by about 80% bread! Ohh! and pate, wait... what PATE!!! I could have ordered more food at Costco across the street for the same $13 sheesh!! Granted, I was hungry and just spent the maliciously charged $13 for this poor excuse of a snack, I did not bother taking it back. Please, please, please, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or hard earned money on a banh mi here... you'll thank me later! Believe me when I tell you...
